Financial freedom is something we should all be striving for. Our parents taught us to be practical and get a good, stable job. But life isn't always stable, and if we are going to be bad ass feminists who do what we want with our lives, we need to be financially free. Financial freedom means leaving your cheating husband without worries and about bills, it means fully funding your maternity leave to spend time with your newborn, and it means taking a calculated risk on your time and not anyone else's. This week's guest is a good friend of mine who has done all this and more, and she's going to show you how you can do it too.    Jannese Torres is an award-winning Latina Money Expert. She became an accidental entrepreneur after a job loss led her to create a successful Latin food blog, Delish D'Lites. Now, she helps her clients and listeners build successful online businesses that allow them to pursue financial independence and freedom. Jannese is on a mission to educate marginalized communities on topics like entrepreneurship, investing, and financial independence through her personal finance podcast, "Yo Quiero Dinero." Over the last six years, I've really been getting into the science of manifesting. Because it is a science! Manifesting has everything to do with neuroplasticity, neuroscience, and epigenetics. There's a reason I created my dream life when I left my tech job. And there's one specific method of manifesting that always works for me, so I'm going to share it with you today.    It's called the BFF method, and it's called the BFF method because this manifestation method is about to be your best friend forever. Using this method in your daily life is going to teach you how to be the creator of your life rather than feeling like life is happening to you instead of with you.   In this week's episode, we're taking control of our lives with the BFF method. "Mira, ponte las pilas." How many times have you heard that phrase before? Or "no seas una pendeja," or "nadie te quita lo que está para ti." These phrases helped guide us into the women we are today. We picked ourselves up and dusted ourselves off because we had tough love at home that taught us how to be tougher chingonas. And to be honest, these phrases still help me out to this day! When I'm feeling low, I think, "Mira, Erika, ponte las pilas," and get out of my slump. Because mama didn't raise a pendeja!    Carolina Acosta is a Forbes 30 Under 30 entrepreneur, designer, and co-author of Mamá Didn't Raise a Pendeja. As the founder of Tragos Games, she's built a bold, culture-forward brand that celebrates Latino identity through fun, connection, and conversation. A proud NY-born Latina with a love for salsa dancing and storytelling, Carolina blends her background in design with her passion for sharing underrepresented perspectives—creating everything from party games to community-driven experiences. When she's not developing new products or mentoring the next wave of creators, you'll find her exploring new countries, dancing all night, or playing party games with friends. Carolina's mission is simple: to bring more unity, authenticity, and cultura to the table—literally.   Aralis Mejia is the founder of Silara Marketing, Head of Marketing for Tragos Games, and co-author of Mamá Didn't Raise a Pendeja. At Silara Marketing, she helps businesses of all sizes strategize and execute marketing plans that blend new tech with traditional tactics, including Tragos Games where she's been helping amplify the brand since launch. Outside of work, you'll find Aralis dining at the newest restaurant, hosting family get-togethers, or experimenting with recipes in the kitchen. From brand launches to birthday dinners, she brings heart and humor to every room she walks into.   Carolina Acosta is a Forbes 30 Under 30 entrepreneur, designer, and co-author of Mamá Didn't Raise a Pendeja. Here's the thing: no matter what your catalyst is, whether it's a layoff or you quit and pivoted, you'll always end up where you need to be. Take our guest, Lucia, for example. She was laid off during the pandemic, and soon after, she realized her dream wasn't to be an art director for Amazon. That company, by the way, laid off her entire team as soon as things got rough. Now that she had the freedom to take a breath and think about what she actually wanted to do, Lucia knew she wanted to work for herself and be an illustrator. Now, she's a successful working artist who has partnered with some of the biggest brands in the world.    Lucia Diaz is a published illustrator and co-author of Viva Latina, created in collaboration with Sandra Velasquez, the visionary CEO of Nopalera. As a sought-after public speaker, she has delivered impactful talks for prestigious brands, including American Express, Target, WBENC, We All Grow Latina, and Latinas in Tech. In her work as an illustrator, she has partnered with iconic global brands such as DIOR, Tiffany & Co., CHANEL, Giorgio Armani, SAKS, DVF, and Carolina Herrera, elevating events through live sketching and art that captures the essence of culture and elegance. Lucia Diaz's passion for illustration stems from a deep desire to ensure Latinas see themselves authentically represented.    Growing up, the only Latina she encountered in history books was Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor. This lack of visibility inspired her to take action. Studies indicate that Latinas constitute only 3-5% of the figures featured in U.S. history textbooks—a statistic that does not reflect their profound contributions to America's legacy. Through her art and storytelling, she illuminates the power of representation. Whether creating inspiring illustrations or leading dynamic workshops, her mission is to celebrate Latinas, amplify their voices, and ensure young girls—like her goddaughter—see themselves in stories of wisdom, strength, and achievement.   In this week's episode, she shares her story of how she went from being a child of a low-income family to working with luxury brands and having an extremely coveted mentor. She went from being laid off to creating a successful business that works with some of the biggest brands in the world. She now shares her story and encourages other artists to start working for themselves rather than relying on corporate entities that don't care about them. AI is an extremely powerful tool that is currently accessible to anyone with an internet connection. We, in the Latino community, can use to give ourselves the leg up we may not have had access to before. Say, for example, you couldn't get a Master's in Marketing Data Analytics when you were in college, but now you need to make a marketing plan for your business. AI can help you create a personalized marketing plan that appeals to any and every algorithm out there. That being said, not everyone knows how to use AI or use it well.    A lot of people are afraid that AI is going to steal their jobs and leave them destitute. But AI is a tool - it's as much a tool for you as a hammer is to a carpenter. And in this week's episode, we're talking to an expert in tech to teach you how to take your business to the next level.    This week's guest is Nikki Barua, the Interim CEO of Latinas in Tech. Nikki is a serial entrepreneur, keynote speaker, bestselling author, and leading expert in helping people and organizations accelerate success. In her 25-year career in innovation, she has helped global brands transform their culture and capabilities. Nikki has won numerous awards, including Entrepreneur of the Year by ACE, named as an EY North America Entrepreneurial Winning Woman, honored as one of the 21 Leaders for the 21st Century, recognized as Entrepreneur Magazine's 100 Most Influential Women, LA Woman of Influence by The Business Journals and Women of Entrepreneurship by LA Lakers. Nikki holds three Master's degrees and is a lifelong learner with insatiable curiosity. She believes that we are all limitless and leads her life committed to inspiring people to live up to their highest potential.   In this week's episode, Nikki tells us how we can level up as business leaders and use AI to take our businesses to the next level. We are entering a new age of leadership, and I don't want any of you to get left behind just because you didn't know how to use the most powerful tool of our generation. You can do anything with the right community behind you, and this week's guest can testify to that. Lourdes was going through an extremely tough time - she was put through the ringer in the military, she found herself in $75k of household debt, and her (now ex) husband kicked her out of her own home. She needed to make a change and FAST. So she reached out to her community, including the Courage Driven Latina community, and her community came through for her.    Lourdes Fernando is a passionate advocate for veterans and a Chicago realtor specializing in VA loans. An 11-year Army National Guard veteran, she empowers fellow veterans, particularly women, to achieve financial independence and stability through the strategic use of their VA benefits. Over 90% of her business focuses on assisting veterans in securing homeownership. Beyond real estate, Lourdes actively engages in community initiatives, serving as chair of the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion committee at Keller Williams Realty. Her dedication has earned her recognition, including the REALTOR® Community Service Award, underscoring her commitment to supporting and uplifting the veteran community.   In this week's episode, Lourdes shares her story of building wealth and community after her military service. She was able to find herself a new home, invest in property, clear out her debt, and save $40k in just a few years. When her previous community fell through, she joined Courage Driven Latina and dove headfirst into studying the VA benefits that are available to her. Now, she helps other vets take full advantage of their benefits and build generational wealth. It all comes down to learning how to trust ourselves. For example, picking between two great job offers and not being able to choose which one to take. They're both great! And still, you can't make a decision.    If you know that something like picking between two great job offers paralyzes you, then we need to start strengthening your decision-making skills. Don't worry! We'll do this together.    In this week's episode, we're talking about the power of making a decision. I've made so many career changes in the last five years alone. You may say to yourself, “I'm not a controlling person, this isn't about me.” But the need to control the world around us is a natural part of human nature. We crave control because we think control will bring us certainty, and then that certainty will bring us peace.    But sometimes you don't get certainty, no matter how much you try. And instead of freaking out about the uncertainty of it all, we should all try and take a deep breath and look at the situation differently. Believe it or not, you do have more options besides controlling an outcome or stressing out because you can't control the outcome. It doesn't always feel that way, but it's true.   In this week's episode, we're talking about the real reason you suffer and how to stop. I learned that I could live without my tech job when I became a yoga instructor. I learned how to put myself out there on the internet as a food blogger. Even the tech job I fell out of love with gave me the safety net I needed to try and build something on my own.    What I'm saying is, you don't have to get it right the first time and the same thing goes for the new year. We're three months into the new year and most people I know didn't have a great three months! It happens. But that doesn't mean you have to write the whole year off. Before I started this coaching business, I wanted to start a food blog. I was extremely passionate about it, but I wasn't putting any action towards making it happen. It wasn't until my ex, my boyfriend at the time, called me out on my inaction. At first, I was offended, but then I realized that he was right. I kept talking about this food blog I was so into, but I was too afraid to start actually posting.    I was stuck because I felt like I needed clarity before I started anything. I was researching blogging and taking notes on other people's blogs and just waiting for the moment I felt ready enough to post on my own blog. But that feeling never came. And it never would! Clarity is not what I needed to start my food blog - action was.    In this week's episode, we're talking about clarity and how to stop overthinking and actually start doing. It's time to take action and start working towards our most courageous lives. In this episode, I'm going to share my secret to manifesting my most amazing life. Living your life's purpose doesn't have to be this huge apocalyptic event in your life. You don't have to quit your job and cut off all your connections in order to get closer to your life's goal. You can start with what you have right now.    So many of my clients felt stuck in this limbo of wanting to live for their purpose but not wanting to give up their whole lives for it. And the funny thing is, they never had to! Burning down your old life is not a requirement for starting your new one. You can start your business while you work your day job. You can write your book without getting an MFA first. You can do it, you just have to start.    In this week's episode, we're going to be talking about how you can live your life's purpose right now -  no drastic changes required. Drastic changes in your life like quitting your job or getting an MFA are not what's going to align you with your life's purpose. Books have changed my life in so many different ways. Every time I want to make a change, or grow, or even if I'm just curious about a topic, I do a little bit of research and pick up a book. I can't tell you how much good it's done for me. Even just one book, the Alchemist, has changed the trajectory of my life three times! The Alchemist gave me the courage I needed when I wanted to break off my engagement, when I left my six-figure tech job, and when I decided to move back home. I needed a new perspective to give me the courage I needed to make those changes, and I found it in that book.   Books are an amazing way to start your self-development journey. They're accessible, convenient, and full of information. You can find books online, at your local bookstore, and for free at your local library. You can get a library card for a few bucks, or sometimes even free! Books are an incredible resource, and in this episode, I'm sharing a few of my favorites.    In this week's episode, I'm going to share the 10 books that changed my life and why you'll want to read them too. First of all, no one knows what they're doing. It's very rare that anyone knows exactly what their purpose is. That takes a lot of time and a lot of life to live so you're definitely not behind. Don't get too caught up in what everyone else is doing.    In fact, most people we know are stressing out about feeling left behind and how everyone else is doing. If you're feeling left behind because you're not married, the married people are probably stressing out about their marriage, etc. We all feel like the grass is greener on the other side. So how do we stop feeling like we're falling behind when we're really not?    In this week's episode, I'm going to break down why you're not falling behind - even when it feels like you are. To do this, I'm going to share a few examples of people who felt like they were falling behind, including myself, when they were actually exactly where they were supposed to be. We know that balance is key and that everything will correct itself in the end. In those low moments, I spent way too much time anxiously worrying about all the worst things that could happen.    Worrying can feel like strategizing, but in reality, you're making your mind feel as if you're going through the traumatic event you're thinking of. So you're actually making the worst-case scenario come true because your brain doesn't know the difference between an imagined experience and a real-life event. Your brain needs a break from the negativity, and the best way to do this is to take a moment to be mindful.    In this week's episode, we're talking about the magic of mindfulness and how you can use it to see the light in the midst of all the chaos. Last year when I was stuck worrying about my problems, I couldn't think of any solutions to my problems. The scariest thing about losing your spark is that it can happen at any time and from any number of circumstances losing your spark can come from a toxic relationship, losing your job, or a passion project not turning out how you wanted it to. My clients have told me that they feel overwhelmed by these “failures” and that they're not sure where to go from here. The word failures is in quotations for a reason, just wait.   Without your spark,  it can be really easy to start to question your worth, your power, and how you see yourself. But this is part of the cycle. We have abundance and we have lack. Our moments of lack do not define us, so stop letting it define you. So if this New Year is about getting yourself back to normal, that's okay! Let's take it one step at a time. Strategy is a very important part of running your own business. But so is manifestation, and oftentimes, it's easier to execute than strategy. I know it sounds woo-woo but it's true! You need both to get the results you want, especially if you want to build a better life for yourself.    One of the main reasons manifestation is easier is the fact that you are manifesting all the time. Whether you are aware of it or not, you are always manifesting. It's a law of the universe! So if you're already doing it, you might as well use it to your advantage.    In this week's episode, we're talking about the reasons why manifestation is easier than strategy. Making friends as an adult is so much harder now than it was when we were kids. As kids, we made friends with whoever we had to be around. That meant making friends with our classmates in school, our teammates in our sports teams, and whoever was interested in the same hobbies as us.    But as adults, we feel like we have two options—work and home. At work, we tend to want to keep things professional. So, how are we supposed to make friends as adults? I've learned that you can make friends by not being afraid to be alone.    In this week's episode, I will share how I made friends by using the power of solitude. I know it sounds counterintuitive but it really does work! By being alone I've made friends just by attending dance classes, traveling to different countries, and even while taking coaching courses for my business. It's time to say goodbye to hustle culture and start focusing on what actually works - discipline. I used to be the type of person who wanted to hustle, climb the corporate ladder, and achieve the highest level of corporate success. But the more I tried, the more I knew that hustle culture is not at all sustainable.   Hustle culture is based on a lack mindset. The anxiety around hustling makes you believe that there's not enough to go around. It forces you to believe that if you're not working yourself to the bone every day, you won't get anything done. But that's just not true. What you're craving is not hustle, it's discipline.    This week's episode is a repost of our most popular episode. What are you waiting for? This week, I invited three amazing clients to the podcast to share their amazing journeys of self-discovery. They all knew that they needed to make a change, but they didn't know how to do it or where to start. That was until they decided to get out of their own way and just start.    Sunkin Duarte is a Mexican American, daughter of two immigrants from Michoacán, Mexico, who was born and raised in Fort Worth, Texas. She is a multi-passionate woman who considers herself a spiritual empath and yogi, a trailblazing scholar and professional, and finally, a humanitarian who cares deeply about the BIPOC communities. Growing up, Sunkin was very academically focused, earning two full-ride scholarships to obtain her three degrees, and then in more recent years, breaking into the international development and humanitarian affairs field. Now, Sunkin spends her time giving back to her community through the Latinas in Progress Program of Hispanic Women's Network of Texas and her newly created business, Sunkin Yoga, a lifestyle and wellness coaching business. Her goal is to uplift BIPOC communities to live their most authentic, aligned, and empowered lives by practicing mindfulness, doing self-introspection work, and integrating healthy practices into their daily routines.   Jacqueline Torres is a wife, mother of four, RN turned real estate developer. After a hard year of financial uncertainty and having a new baby, she knew that she had to find a way to supplement their income. From Airbnbs to attending events, reading books, networking dinners, and listening to endless podcasts, she decided to take action, trust and believe in herself, and take a chance on new developments. Jacqueline partnered up with the right people, raised private money, and broke ground on her first new build!   Erika Padilla is a Mexican immigrant, a single mom of two, and the oldest of five children. She immigrated to the US when she was only nine years old and her world as she knew it turned upside down. She came to a new country without knowing any English and carried a whole lot of fear. She quickly became the kid who got picked on because she didn't understand anything. That just made me stronger and ever since I have seen everything as a challenge instead of a problem. She became a young mom at 23 who only found out she was pregnant three months before the baby arrived. Erika knew she had to give her child a better life, one away from addiction and money issues, so she moved in with the father's family. She made it work with her children's father for sixteen years before she decided it was time to leave him and start fresh. She is now working on a new chapter in her life, one filled with resilience and self-confidence.    In this week's episode, these three amazing women share how they got out of their own way and started creating the dream lives they knew they deserved.
