Your podcast audio is quietly killing your authority. If your mic isn't set up properly, listeners won't trust you long enough to hear your message. BTW, you might be using your mic wrong without realizing it, so hit play. If your podcast audio sounds off, your authority takes a hit before you even get a chance to make your point. I've said this for years, as a podcast coach with over 250 episodes, and I'll say it again: how you sound matters. Poor mic technique doesn't come across as "authentic" or "scrappy." It signals a lack of professionalism, and listeners make that judgment fast. In this episode, I break down why bad audio costs you trust, why there's no excuse for it anymore, and the single most important fix you can make today to sound more credible instantly. I walk you through how microphones actually work, why so many podcasters point them the wrong way, and the simple visual that will change how you record forever. This is the quickest win you'll ever get in podcasting. No new gear. No fancy tools. Just better mic awareness and cleaner audio going in. If you want to know whether your podcast is supporting your business or quietly working against it, grab my free podcast audit. It's a step-by-step process that shows you where authority leaks happen and what to fix first so your podcast actually does its job of generating leads and sales.

Become a paid subscriber to our newsletter/podcast, The Climate Weekly, to help support this show! It's fun. All the cool kids are doing it! -------- Are global leaders trying to solve the wrong climate problem? In this episode, Professor Jessica Green aruges that too often governments and institutions have misdiagnosed the core issues of the climate crisis and are going about solutions in all the wrong ways as a result. In her new book, Existential Politics: Why Global Climate Institutions Are Failing and How to Fix Them, she focuses on the power dynamics between fossil fuel asset owners and green asset owners and why it's critical to understand this as the central fight at the heart of climate change. Green argues that we need to shift focus from managing greenhouse gas emissions to managing assets, highlighting the existential threat fossil fuel companies face in a carbon-free economy and the potential for green asset owners to thrive in the future. She also explains the role of vulnerable asset owners, the political challenges of carbon pricing, and the importance of green industrial policy. We discuss what the Paris Agreement has and hasn't accomplished and why we need to better understand the limitations of the IPCCC. The COP is in its fourth decade. If it were capable, in its current form, of achieving its stated aim of tackling climate change, it would probably have done so by now. So why isn't it working? How is it possible that so much fanfare, so many words, and so much work—much of it genuine and good-faith—has amounted to such little progress? University of Toronto political science professor Jessica F. Green has some ideas. In Existential Politics: Why Global Climate Institutions Are Failing and How to Fix Them, the longtime observer of global climate negotiations and expert on carbon accounting argues that the COP embodies a “win-win” approach to a problem for which someone has to lose. The challenge, then, is to make sure the right people (and planet) do the winning, while the “fossil asset owners,” as Green describes them, do the losing. Learn more about your ad choices. Summary In this episode, Andy welcomes Coach Tony Weaver, author of Project Manage Your Life: Your Blueprint for Achieving Any Goal — One Step at a Time. After decades of leading complex IT, marketing, and transformation projects, Tony turned his project management skills inward and used them to lose over 100 pounds. That journey sparked a new mission: helping others apply the same proven methods to their own goals, whether it's health, finances, career, or just finally following through on something important. In this conversation, you'll hear how to turn vague intentions into measurable, motivating goals. Tony shares how to break down big ambitions into doable milestones, track your progress without becoming a slave to the data, and stay consistent with joy instead of burnout. He unpacks what SMART goals actually look like in the real world and explains why the project mindset can transform not just what you achieve, but how you feel while doing it. If you're looking for practical ideas to move forward on goals that matter to you, at work or at home, this episode is for you! Alasdair speaks with Jessica F. Green, author of the new book Existential Politics: Why Global Climate Institutions Are Failing and How to Fix Them, about why thirty years of climate policy have failed to reduce emissions. They discuss why carbon pricing has been largely ineffective, how net zero pledges are misleading, and why focus must shift from measuring emissions by the tonne to measuring profitability. Jessica is a professor of Political Science at the University of Toronto, and an expert in carbon pricing and global governance. Her new book addresses the climate crisis through asset revaluation and is available to preorder from Princeton University Press here. Most women don't realize that brain fog, weight gain, anxiety, low libido, and fatigue in their 30s or 40s can be early signs of perimenopause — not just stress or aging. In this episode of The Well Drop, I sit down with Dr. Sarah Daccarett, to explore why waiting until menopause for hormone therapy leaves women struggling for years. We unpack the early warning signs of hormone decline, why “progesterone-only” therapy falls short, and how bioidentical hormones can transform health. We discuss why the delivery method matters and what realistic results look like from month one to six. On this episode of Great Practice, Great Life, Steve talks with attorney Ronald W. Chapman II, who shares his powerful journey from the battlefield to the courtroom. A former Marine Corps JAG officer, Ronald opens up about how his military service shaped not just his legal skill set but also his mindset. The idea of not using the law as a shield became a defining part of his growth as a leader. His transition from a highly structured military environment to the unpredictable world of private practice taught him that true impact comes from embracing purpose, taking ownership, and leading with vision. Ronald's journey didn't start in a courtroom—it began with a decision sparked by 9/11. While studying law, he felt the pull to serve. His Marine Corps recruiter advised him to finish law school and return as an officer, and that is what he did. That moment changed everything for Ronald. His legal career is rooted in precision, principle, and purpose. He began by investigating battlefield decisions in Afghanistan. Later, he defended healthcare professionals in high-stakes litigation. Leaving the military brought a new challenge: adjusting to civilian legal practice. No one prepares you for that transition, and Ronald had to find his own way. He joined his father's law firm and quickly became a key part of its growth and direction. His background in philosophy helped him shift from pure strategy to powerful storytelling. In the courtroom, he created space where empathy meets advocacy. Today, Ronald plays a major role in a multi-state law firm, and his approach stands out in the legal field. He focuses his time where it matters most and delegates everything he can. He also notes that listening to what others were saying—and doing what they didn't want to—led him to specialize in healthcare defense. Choosing an area of law others avoid gave him a strategic edge and helped the firm grow. This episode isn't just about firm growth—it's about identity. Ronald talks candidly about the emotional weight of litigation, the mental shift from technician to visionary, and the power of mindfulness. He credits creative outlets like working out and writing to help him stay grounded, and emphasizes that strong leadership requires knowing when to step back—not just push harder. Ronald's story challenges legal professionals to stop using the law as a shield, to lead with courage, embrace the human side of practice, and build something sustainable. This conversation is a reminder that your story, your mission, and your mindset matter just as much as your legal skills. In this episode, you will hear: Ronald Chapman's transition from a Marine Corps JAG officer to playing a key role in a multi-state law firm Aligning personal mission with professional vision and the importance of niching in legal practice Challenges and strategies in managing a healthcare-focused law practice Lessons on delegation, innovation, and leadership drawn from military experience The role of strategic connections and niche focus in expanding legal influence Humanizing legal defense and the significance of personal narratives in court Balancing leadership responsibilities with self-care and personal well-being Stay Connected & Show Your Support: Never miss an episode—subscribe to Great Practice, Great Life! ⭐Like what you hear? Why has it been so hard for the world to make progress on climate change over the past 30 years? Maybe it's because we've been thinking about the problem wrong. Academics and economists have often framed climate change as a free-rider or collective action problem, one in which countries must agree not to emit greenhouse gases and abuse the public commons. But maybe the better way to understand climate action is as a fight that generates winners and losers, defined primarily by who owns what. On this week's episode of Shift Key, Rob and Jesse talk with Jessica Green, a political science professor at the University of Toronto. She calls for “radical pragmatism” in climate action and an “asset revaluation”-focused view of the climate problem. Green is the author of the forthcoming book Existential Politics: Why Global Climate Institutions Are Failing and How to Fix Them. Shift Key is hosted by Jesse Jenkins, a professor of energy systems engineering at Princeton University, and Robinson Meyer, Heatmap's executive editor. Come to wickedproblems.earth to get the full-fat version! Exit music for this episode is “Oil Money” by Graham Barham. Because, well, it's a bit obvious this time, no?If insanity is doing the same thing repeatedly and expecting a different result, global climate institutions like the annual COP meetings are definitionally loopier than Elon Musk deep down a K-hole.We spend our time arguing about how to count emissions in order to avoid the real conversation, which is a struggle between three asset classes: fossil fuel assets, ‘vulnerable' assets (like Small Island Developing States), and ‘green' assets. Pretending that struggle is not existential is the essence of climate diplomacy for the past 35 years.University of Toronto political scientist Professor Jessica Green thinks we're well past the point we can afford to continue pretending. Reading her forthcoming book, Existential Politics - Why Global Climate Institutions are Failing and How to Fix Them, was like waking from a dream. You should pre-order it now.She cuts through the nonsense to focus on the real dilemma. The only way through an “energy transition” is for fossil fuel companies, enormously powerful economic and political actors, to have $trillions in ‘stranded assets' and balance sheets that go up in smoke.Turkeys don't vote for Christmas (an idiomatic expression I'm pleased to be the first to share with Prof. Green). Yet the entire structure of global climate diplomacy is built on the fallacy that, somehow, oil majors and NOCs would ignore their self-interest and agree to die.As you'll hear in our conversation, Prof. Green doesn't pull punches and doesn't suffer fools. There's an impatience in her writing and her presentation that has a lot of James Dyke “fuck this noise can we please stop kidding ourselves” energy. At some points I wanted to reach for the hemlock, but thankfully she is as witty as she is sharp.I ask her how her ideas intersect or cut against other critiques of the mainstream climate conversation like Andreas Malm and Wim Carton in Overshoot, Rupert Read's take on transformative adaptation and Tadzio Mueller's anticipation of collapse.I think you'll enjoy the chat. This week, Nick and Goldy talk to esteemed economist Colin Mayer, author of the book Capitalism and Crises: How to Fix Them, to explore the deep-seated issues plaguing modern capitalism, including rising inequality and environmental degradation. Mayer argues that the current profit-driven mindset of corporations often leads to societal harm, and he advocates for a paradigm shift towards a model where businesses profit by solving real human problems rather than creating them. Their conversation dissects the historical evolution of corporate responsibility, critiques neoliberal economics, and proposes solutions that redirect corporate focus toward societal benefit, and the urgent need for a more equitable economic structure that uplifts the middle class. Colin Mayer is a distinguished academic in the field of finance and economics. He is the Peter Moores Professor of Management Studies at the Saïd Business School at the University of Oxford. With a background in economics and finance, Mayer has conducted extensive research on corporate finance, governance, and the role of business in society. His work has been widely published in academic journals, and he is the author of several books, including "Capitalism and Crises."
