This week we're talking to Rahkim Sabree, author, financial trauma educator, and the person who basically put “financial trauma” on the map for a lot of the internet. His work connects money behaviors to nervous system responses, family systems, and broader cultural and structural realities. His book, Overcoming Financial Trauma, and his whole approach are research-heavy, emotionally honest, and built to last.Julien starts this conversation by admitting something most people don't say out loud. He shares that he delayed inviting Rahkim on the podcast because the conversation would've forced him to confront his own financial trauma, and he wasn't ready to "perform" his way through it.From there, this episode goes deeper than “money mindset” and way past generic financial literacy. If you've ever felt anxious about money without a clear reason… or noticed your stress spikes around the 1st and the 15th… this one will feel uncomfortably specific, in a good way.We talk about:Why “financial trauma” is everywhere right now and how the term gets misusedThe awkward truth about why healing your money story can feel like disrespecting your parentsThe money anxiety you normalize until somebody else hears itRahkim's house fire and how the “tools” we rely on (education, planning, discipline) don't always deploy when life is on fireWhy money often represents power, freedom, and safety - and how safety shows up after lossVicarious financial trauma and how you can “catch” money anxiety from what you grew up aroundHow we're socialized to treat “have-nots” and how that drives status, spending, and fearPhysical tells of financial trauma and why the better question is: where do you feel money in your body?Links: Get Rahkim's book, Overcoming Financial Trauma Learn more about his work on Rahkim's website, Instagram, and LinkedIn pageSubscribe to Rahkim's newsletter on Substack Follow Rahkim's writing on Forbes Connect with Julien and Kiersten on our website, Instagram, Twitter, and YouTube.Join our email list to get updates from us, opportunities for discounts, freebies and a quick rundown on the relevant financial and career news impacting your life. Emily went from living the "picture-perfect" life with four kids and a 6,000-square-foot house to nursing her baby in a bankruptcy lawyer's office, only to discover her marriage would crumble under the weight of financial chaos years later. After bankruptcy, a divorce, and her ex-husband becoming homeless, this fierce single mom clawed her way to earning $100K annually while raising kids —completely on her own financially. In a breakthrough moment, she laid bare every bank account to her 16-year-old son, teaching him what "save your money" really means through radical transparency that brought him to tears and transformed his spending habits forever. This is the story every woman needs to hear about breaking free from financial trauma, having the hard money conversations before marriage, and building generational wealth through honest, actionable lessons—not just empty words.
email me your questions at cpsychic@cpsychicreadings.comIn this episode, we explore how financial trauma and nervous-system safety impact your relationship with money, intuition, and manifestation. If money has ever felt stressful, unstable, or emotionally charged, your body may be protecting you—not blocking you. We unpack why having less can subconsciously feel safer than having more, how financial trauma interferes with intuition, and why manifestation techniques often fail when safety is missing. Manifestation isn't about forcing belief—it's about feeling safe enough to receive. If this resonates and you want deeper clarity around your money patterns, intuition, or next steps, you can book a private intuitive reading at
Most couples think they're “broken” because they argue about money. The truth? You're probably more normal than you realize—you've just never been taught how to talk about money without going to war.In this 12 Days of Giving episode, I sit back down with financial therapist Ashley Quamme to walk through a real couple we'll call Mark and Mary—late 30s, three kids, decent income, solid marriage… until money comes up. He's the anxious saver, constantly bracing for the layoff that may never come. She's the practical spender who wants to make memories with their kids and not live like everything is on fire. The money isn't the problem. Their stories about money are. ashley-2-2025Ashley takes us into their backstory: Mark's single-mom, count-every-penny upbringing and Mary's “we're fine, we don't talk about money much” childhood. We break down how those early money memories hijack their adult arguments—why he feels panicked when they're not maxing accounts, and why she feels controlled and judged when he questions holiday spending. None of this is “just numbers.” This is nervous systems, fear, and unspoken expectations running the show. Then we get into the actual work: how Ashley helped them stop avoiding each other, set up structured money dates, and build rules of engagement so they're not trying to solve their financial life at 9:30 p.m. half-asleep and pissed off. We talk about what to do when you hit a stalemate, why “we'll talk about it later” usually means “never,” and how they finally landed on a savings target that calmed his anxiety without killing all joy for her. This is not some dramatic, on-the-brink-of-divorce situation. This is a normal couple that refused to settle for “fine” and chose to do the work before things blew up. If you and your partner are mostly good—but money convos feel tense, defensive, or like the same fight on repeat—this episode is your mirror and your playbook.

This episode pulls no punches. We're talking about the realities of first-generation wealth building, the systemic oppression that keeps people stuck, and the truth about how legacy gaps can transform into generational growth.I sit down with Dr. LaTanya White—researcher, entrepreneur, and unapologetic truth-teller—to dissect why traditional wealth advice doesn't work for everyone. We break down the weight of starting from scratch, the emotional toll of being the first in your family to build wealth, and why community is the key to not burning out along the way.We cover the myths the media pushes—like “everyone has the same opportunity” or “just invest and wait”—and we shred them with real research and lived experience. From the collapse of the Freedman's Bank to the unseen wealth of America's richest families, we connect the dots on why so many are left behind and how to fight back with knowledge and resilience. Most importantly, Dr. White shares actionable steps: what to read, how to build a vision for wealth, and how to start documenting your family's story today. Because wealth isn't just about money—it's about knowledge, forgiveness, and community. If you're tired of the same recycled advice that ignores your lived reality, this episode will hit you hard. Why is it that financial abundance comes easier for some, while others struggle? What if we told you it's not about how hard you work for money, but about how your nervous system is patterned? Money is a tricky subject, because it is the foundation for our survival and security. So we can unconsciously create unhealthy relationships with money that are formed from what we have been taught about money at a young age, and unhealed trauma that still lives in our body around money, sex, and parental figures. In today's episode, Elisabeth and Jennifer are joined by Preston Smiles, a transformational leader and author, who helps heal traumas to cultivate financial abundance. They touch on everything from childhood trauma around money and sex, as well as what financial trauma looks like, and the invisible thread we can follow to learn where our scarcity or lack around finances stems from. Preston also conveys how creating financial success is all about healing our traumas to create a relaxed body, and a clear channel for money to flow in easily. This episode is filled with tangible exercises that you can start today to help create a clear channel to allow in, not only financial abundance, but joy and calm. If we reframe our mind to think of money as energy, we can start to see how attracting it comes down to being open enough to receive it. The way we do this is a personal journey of healing and acceptance of the fact that we are worthy of financial abundance. We just need to believe it to receive it! If this episode resonates with you, be sure to check it out! Topics discussed in this episode: Preston's money story and the pivotal moment that changed everything for him Understanding financial trauma Personal examples of financial trauma from Elisabeth and Jennifer A common financial trauma many children in the Western world experience How we're conditioned to believe talking about money is dangerous Creating a clear, open channel in the body for financial success The impact of sexual trauma on our relationship with money An exercise to break free from a functional freeze pattern The four unconscious needs all humans are constantly seeking To learn more about Preston Smiles' work, head to his website here: https://prestonsmiles.com/ Connect with Preston Smiles on Instagram here: https://www.instagram.com/prestonsmiles Learn more about the Neuro-Somatic Intelligence Coaching program and sign up for the next cohort now! https://www.neurosomaticintelligence.com Get started training your nervous system with our FREE 2-week offer on the Brain Based Membership site: https://www.rewiretrial.com Connect with us on social media: @trauma.rewired Join the Trauma Rewired Facebook Group! https://www.facebook.com/groups/761101225132846 FREE 1 Year Supply of Vitamin D + 5 Travel Packs from Athletic Greens when you use my exclusive offer: https://www.drinkag1.com/rewired This episode was produced by Podcast Boutique https://www.podcastboutique.com Trauma Rewired podcast is intended to educate and inform but does not constitute medical, psychological or other professional advice or services. You might think that Brendan Rooney, who had a "normal" middle-class childhood, enlisted in the Marines and then went to Columbia University would have very little in common with Christy Carlson Romano, former Disney Channel child star who, in her words, made millions of dollars— and lost them. And yet— they say their childhoods were not that different when it came to the hard financial lessons. Nicole sits down with Christy and Brendan, who run the podcast network Podco, and talk about what it's like being business partners with your romantic partner. Then, Christy talks about her financial journey after rocketing to superstardom so young, and how she made— and lost millions. We talk about when spending can turn into a form of self-harm, and her advice to anyone looking to build a healthier relationship with money.
