The leadership theme we're working through this month both in the Culture Is Everything Club and on the Think Big Act Small podcast is 'Creating strong personal & professional connections with team mates.' This week's episode is an encore of the Episode 23 interview with entrepreneur and TV personality Jules Lund. Way back in Season 2, Jules was very vulnerable about his leadership journey from 'lone wolf' to founder of global tech business Tribe. Like any leader, Jules' journey has had its ups and downs, highlighted by having a really tough conversation with his CEO about the impact of his own behaviour on the rest of the team. That tough conversation between Jules and the TRIBE CEO, Anthony Svirskis, is a real-life example of how strong personal & professional connections with team mates are built. Enjoy! STEM Coorinator Luke Starczak joins Jennie Lenman in studio to discuss the sessions, along with year nine students Adela Chewings, Kirralee Pitcher, and Mia Duncan, who have been considering the carp problem in the Murray River.
Dear friends & colleagues,In the three months since the Chinese government notified the WHO of the emergence of a new viral pneumonia, we appear to be on the rising ‘surge curve’ of a pandemic that threatens to overwhelm our healthcare system's capacity. Despite the stark realities of the present moment and the unknowns that lie ahead, there has been another surge - a surge of humanitarian mission and innovation, of empathy and hope, of teaming and transformation. I am awestruck by the creativity, ingenuity, dedication and collaboration I’ve been witnessing and am privileged to be a part of. It's difficult to express the gratitude that I and others have for the frontline providers and staff who are seeing patients in the clinics, emergency rooms and hospitals. As I observe the herculean efforts around me, I feel compelled to contribute and use my podcast platform to shed light on how this pandemic is accelerating the reframing of American healthcare... in real time. To that end, I am launching a limited podcast series entitled,‘How COVID-19 is Reframing Healthcare in America’. In this series, I reach out to interview future-facing healthcare leaders and entrepreneurs, and ask them two questions:(1) How has the COVID-19 pandemic immediately changed the way you are delivering healthcare? (2) How will COVID-19 reframe healthcare in America for years to come?I am awed and inspired by the responses I've gotten in the interviews I've already begun recording for this series. I can't wait to share them with you!Friends - I hope you’ll join me in this historic window of opportunity that’s been thrust upon us. The first episode in this limited series is now available for download on the 'Creating a New Healthcare' podcast. I urge you to listen, share, and please reach out with your response.Until next time, be safe and be well.Zeev Neuwirth MD

This book is about winning competitive business in a me too market and Iannarino refers to the 'red ocean' - when you're competing against someone whose product is similar to your own and where it's a zero some game i.e. they lose, you win. Chapter 7: 'Building Consensus Horizontally and Vertically'. This chapter talks about a sales pitch where you've got different decision makers involved in the process to get your product/solution signed off and the interrelationship between those people. Chapter 8: 'Finding a Path to a Deal' More often than not, most deals follow a path. Maybe not a grooved path that others have walked on, but they still follow a path. Chapter 9: 'Creating a Preference' This opens part 3 of the book and is one of my favourite bits of the book. His opening line in each chapter is excellent and this one is no exception: 'We often forget that the act of selling is about creating a preference to work with us instead of our competitor' well said. I think a lot of people we interview forget that - you're in the business of persuade the customer to do something that they might not have done without you.
Welcome to the first 'Creating a New Healthcare' podcast of 2019!This is an incredibly timely topic. At the start of each year, most of us resolve to discard bad habits and take up new, healthier ones. We all struggle with the perennial challenge of getting motivated, avoiding frustration; and sustaining new behaviors beyond just a few days or weeks. In this interview we discuss a new approach and health app focused on healthy eating - fresh Tri - which our guest co-developed with Walmart. Our guest this week - Kyra Bobinet - is a bestselling author and the CEO-founder of engagedIN, a neuroscience behavior design firm that uses neuroscience to make health and wellness products, and communications, more engaging.Kyra is a physician who received a masters in public health from Harvard. She was the recipient of Harvard’s 2015 Innovator Award. Kyra is the author of A Well Designed Life: 10 Lessons in Brain Science and Design Thinking for a Mindful, Healthy, and Purposeful Life. She and her work have been featured by the Wall Street Journal, New York Times, Huffington Post and NPR. She’s created health startups, blockbuster products, health apps, and evidence-based programs in mind-body & metabolic medicine. Some of the incredibly relevant issues covered in this episode include:“The emperor has no clothes.” - Kyra’s assessment of the employer wellness industryThe fundamental differences that make her new app - fresh Tri - unique in the world of healthy habit developmentWhy the perception of ‘failure’ is actually harmful to our health and is the neurophysiological basis for de-motivationHow to apply the basic principle of design thinking to constantly improve one’s approach to developing healthful habits - and how to side-step failure trapsA rare opportunity to hear an expert describe ‘the anatomy and physiology of behavior design’The ‘secret sauce’ Kyra discovered and believes to be the single most important factor in sustained behavior changeWhat’s unique about this interview and the work Dr. Bobinet is doing is that it goes beyond healthcare and physical health. This message of how we perceive failure and success is a fundamental life skill. Kyra’s research can assist us in avoiding the pitfalls of self-defeat in all aspects of our lives. Her underlying motivation - to remove the self-blame and harsh criticism we inflict upon ourselves - is a hopeful and realistic way to begin the new year. As always, I hope you get as much out of this interview as I have.Zeev Neuwirth, MD

I recently took the Ministry of Change down to Bristol to Freedom of Mind, a festival designed to celebrate mental health, conceived two years ago by Ella Marshall when she was just 16 years old. One of the most captivating events I attended was 'Creating a Space for Men to Talk' organised by men's mental health organisation Man Up Man Down. In this podcast I sat down with the co-founder of Man Up Man Down, Kate Mabbett and then with Ella Marshall, to talk about mental health.

Last year, at the World Fantasy Convention held in Saratoga Springs, a panel was presented on 'Creating the Fantasy Canon'. The panel description was: There are some books we all agree on as fundamental to the genre, but can we agree on a canon of twenty stories? Our panelists will discuss which twenty books are essential reading for understanding the genre and how this list has changed over time. Jonathan from the Coode Street Podcast was cast in the role of moderator, and the panelists for the discussion were John Clute, Michael Dirda, Yanni Kuznia, Gary Wolfe, and Ron Yaniv. The conversation that unfolded was energetic, thoughtful and entertaining, and even if it didn't resolve the question, it nonetheless was something we at Coode St thought you might enjoy. The Coode Street Podcast team would like to thank the administrators of the World Fantasy convention for permission to present the panel here, and would specially like to thank sound expert Paul Kraus for his hard work on making sure the recording was as good as it is. As always, we hope you enjoy the episode!

When we decided to focus on 'dating' this month I was delighted to get a chance to speak to coach and brand consultant Sandra Koenig about her amazing story of aiming to go from single to married in just eight weeks! Sandra has an understanding of inborn happiness and the three principles of Mind, Thought & Consciousness that we talk about here on Born Happy and decided to take on this marriage challenge when she took part in one of Michael Neill's 'Creating the Impossible' mastermind groups. Sandra dated up a storm in those weeks and in this episode she shares the incredible experiences and the learning she took from it. If you're starting to dip a toe in the world of dating, you'll find Sandra's words so helpful. These were my best bits: Sandra spoke about how she approached each date with a light heart and an open mind, and without a tonne of expectations about what would take place. That's such a wonderful way to approach anything in life as it helps to lowers the (perceived) stakes and allows us to see and create new opportunities. Sandra has a great understanding of innate happiness and wellbeing which meant that she didn't take any of the 'bad dates' personally and was able to bring compassion and honesty to some pretty cringy moments! Intuition and natural wisdom came up several times in our conversation - Sandra said she really listened to what her feelings were telling her rather than trying to over-think what she should do about each date. Sandra said let go of any concerns of what others might expect from you - whether that's sex on the first date or anything else - just be guided by what feels right for you. Sandra talked about how helpful it is to recognise that any 'thought storms' she had about dates all blew over. Thoughts all flow past - no thinking is fixed and permanent. You'll have to listen to find out whether her challenge was successful! :)
