How do you say ketamine? (Pronunciation Series Episode 51)

We continue working our way through the alphabet in my drug pronunciation series. We're on the letter “K,” and today's drug is ketamine.    In this episode, I divide ketamine into syllables, tell you which syllable to emphasize, and share my sources. Written pronunciations are helpful, so look below for the written pronunciation. Once you've listened to this episode, practice saying ketamine. Repetition is the key to mastery.   Ketamine = KEH-tuh-meen   Keh, like keg Tuh, like tug And meen, as in, “Bullies are mean!”   Emphasize KEH.  Sources: My clinical experience as a pharmacist, Google, and m-w.com. I like how Google and M-W divide the syllables and pronounce the drug name.    Thank you for listening to episode 322 of The Pharmacist's Voice ® Podcast. Did you know that the United States Adopted Names (USAN) Council advises against using the letter "K" in generic drug names? Some languages struggle with pronouncing “K.” In fact, four letters are generally avoided in naming drugs: H, J, K, and W. While the USAN guideline applies to generic drug names, brand-name drugs also tend to avoid these letters.   A Fun Thought Experiment If you've ever been told not to do something and immediately wanted to do it, you're not alone! Just for fun, I combined all four of the "forbidden letters" into a made-up drug name: Jawkherol Sounds like a treatment for TMJ, doesn't it?   Common Mispronunciations to Avoid Some sources—including YouTube videos with thousands of views—incorrectly pronounce ketamine. Here are three examples of how NOT to say it: KET-a-MIN ket-a-MEEN KEET-a-meen Mispronunciations can lead to confusion, especially for non-native English speakers or healthcare professionals giving presentations. That's why I create these episodes—to combat misinformation and make learning drug names easier. In this episode of the podcast, I chat with Ryan Tolbert, an expert in film photography and owner of The Boutique Film Lab, who simplifies the transition from digital to analog. Ryan shares his journey from hobbyist to business owner, emphasizing the beauty and imperfect charm of film. He offers practical advice on starting with point-and-shoot cameras, understanding film characteristics, and developing your own film. Ryan encourages you to embrace film's unique aesthetic and simplicity, start with accessible gear, and experiment with different films to discover what works for you. THE BIG IDEASStart Simple: Begin with automatic point-and-shoot cameras to eliminate complexity and focus on composition and creativity.Learn to Love Imperfection: Film photography's unique charm lies in its imperfections; embrace these as part of your creative journey.Explore Different Films: Different film stocks offer varied aesthetics; experiment to find your preference and broaden your visual style.Understand Film's Latitudes: Film offers more latitude for overexposure but struggles with underexposed shadows; learn to expose correctly.PHOTOGRAPHY ACTION PLANChoose Your First Film Camera: Research and purchase a simple point-and-shoot camera like the Olympus XA2. Look for reliable sources such as KEH or eBay, ensuring the seller is trusted.Experiment with Film Stocks: Buy a variety of film stocks like Kodak Gold 200 and Fuji Superior 400 to see which you prefer. Take notes on the characteristics of each film to understand their strengths and weaknesses.Practice Correct Exposure: Use the sunny 16 rule to practice exposing your film correctly in natural light conditions. Overexpose by one stop to avoid losing details in shadows, especially with consumer film stock.Learn Film Development: Try developing black and white film at home to grasp the basic process. Send your color film to a lab and compare the quality of basic and premium scans.Build Your Kit: Start with a prime lens like a 50mm or 35mm to enhance your skills with a fixed focal length. Gradually expand your lens collection based on the types of photography that interest you.RESOURCES:Learn more about the Boutique Film Lab - https://www.boutiquefilmlab.com/Follow the Boutique Film Lab on Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/boutiquefilmlab/Watch the Free Maximizing Mini Sessions Video training and start earning money with your camera!https://beginnerphotopod.com/minis Build Your Dream Photography Business and Keep More of the Money You Earn with CloudSpot Studio. And get my Wedding and Portrait Contract and Questionnaires, at no cost!Sign up now at http://deliverphotos.com/Connect with the Beginner Photography Podcast! In this episode of the Work in Progress podcast, I'm joined by Sarah Keh, the vice president of corporate social responsibility at Prudential Financial to discuss the company's $180 million committment to helping opportunity youth find a pathway to good jobs and wealth building. Keh sat down with me to discuss the philanthropy in June at the Aspen Ideas Festival. Opportunity youth are young people between the ages of 16 and 24 who currently are not in formal education or training and are unemployed. There are almost 6 million people who fall into that designation, a number that has grown since the COVID pandemic. Even before the pandemic, in 2019, Prudential decided to invest $180 million by 2025 in programs that will help young people across the globe gain the right skills to compete for and succeed in quality jobs.  "The reason why they have come into the situation that there are in...is not because they don't have the will or the desire. It's oftentimes they are born into a situation that doesn't provide them the access to the opportunities that you and I may have had in our upbringing," says Keh. She says the Prudential believes it is important to look at opportunity youth for their potential and act on it. "We're really focused on this population because we believe these are our future leaders of nonprofits, of businesses, of government, and they just need access to the right resources and tools to provide them the good skill." Keh says the company has already achieved in five years what it had set out to achieve in six – the $180 million in nonprofit programs that are providing that training and opportunity. "We've invested in over 20 different organizations globally that have impacted hundreds and thousands of young people. We know even just last year through our impact data that over 500,000 opportunity youth were connected to training opportunities and employment opportunities." Here is the U.S., those workforce development programs include Year Up, YouthBuild, and Per Scholas. Keh and I go into details on how these programs are helping and how the can help young people build wealth. We also discuss Prudential's work of a local level in Newark, New Jersey, the headquarters of the company which turns 150 years old next year. You can listen to the podcast here, or wherever you get your podcasts. This podcast was recorded at the Aspen Ideas Festival, in collaboration with the Aspen Institute. Resale has proven difficult for many players in the apparel space, but KEH has made it work for the camera industry. KEH has been around for 40 years, beginning first as a used camera business. It's grown into the leading platform for pre-owned camera gear. Today, the company continues to see year-over-year growth and is profitable. CEO Noah Treshnell joined the Modern Retail Podcast and spoke about KEH's history, as well as his vision for the future. One of the real lessons Treshnell has learned is that online resale may not work for every type of product. It's usually grouped in with apparel, which is a difficult business margin-wise. But for more expensive products like cameras, the model has proven to work especially well. Brands have to ask, he said, "Is it a category that dramatically drops off in terms of retaining its value? So, is the depreciation curve shallow? That's very important, especially in e-commerce." Lucky for KEH, its products work for a profitable resale business. With resale being such a buzzy word, the business is only continuing to grow. "We've got tailwinds behind us and we're going substantially faster than even the market is growing," he said. "And that's really a testament to the team and our customer."

Looking back at past episodes of the show, there are a few memorable ones, not necessarily for anything myself or the other hosts contributed, but rather from some of our esteemed guests.  Of those esteemed guests, one that consistently piles on great information and awesome anecdotes about our hobby is Robert Shanebrook.  A former employee of Eastman Kodak who while working there did everything from build cameras that went to the moon, to helping create some of the company's best film emulsions ever made, even some like TMax which are still being made today. With an incredible wealth of knowledge about Kodak's past and present, Robert still has his fingers on the pulse of the company and the industry and can often give insightful comments on where the industry is headed, so any time Robert agrees to join us, you know you're in for a ton of great information! Joining him on this show is returning guest Mina Saleeb and first time caller Jesse Wisdom.  Of course, joining Robert, Mina, and Jesse are the four horsemen of the world's first and only open source film photography podcast, Anthony, Paul, Theo, and Mike! In this episode, Robert shares his insights into Kodak's recent announcement of their intent to keep making film for as long as there is demand, and what exactly that means for the film community.  Robert reminisces on his days torture testing film and all of the great lengths Eastman Kodak went to making sure only the best film made it to your cameras, he talks about regional films, and a few more memorable film emulsions like Verichrome III and Supra. In addition, Jesse shares his passion for instant film photography and we learn of some history behind Polaroid's lawsuit against Kodak in the 1980s, and how if it weren't for Kodak, Polaroid might have never existed. Mike brings up his Kodak Aero-Ektar surveillance lens, and two recent pickups, a LOMO LC-Wide and W-Nikkor 2.5cm f/4 rangefinder lens.  Anthony shares his experience going to a recent KEH film event in Atlanta and how there is a clear disconnect between younger film enthusiasts and the older generation.  Jesse takes a stand and says that we need to connect the two groups of people as each can benefit from talking to another, but young people don't go on Facebook and old farts don't go on Discord. As always, the topics we discuss on the Camerosity Podcast are influenced by you!  Please don't feel like you have to be an expert on a specific type of camera, or have the level of knowledge on par with other people on the show.  We LOVE people who are new to shooting and are interested in having an episode dedicated to people new to the hobby, so please don't consider your knowledge level to be a prerequisite for joining! The guys and I rarely know where each episode is going to go until it happens, so if you'd like to join us on a future episode, be sure to look out for our show announcements on our Camerosity Podcast Facebook page, and right here on mikeeckman.com.  We usually record every other Monday and announcements, along with the Zoom link are typically shared 2-3 days in advance. For our next episode, we are devoting the entire show to Yashica.  From the earliest Yashica TLRs to Nicca rangefinders to screw mount Yashica SLRs to the final Contax/Kyocera/Yashica SLRs, we plan on covering the entire output of this once great Japanese camera maker.  To help us traverse Yashica's long history, we will be joined by not one, but two Yashica experts who are certain to share with us a great deal of Yashica history and GAS!  If you've ever had any questions about your Yashica Electro or Samurai, this is the episode you won't want to miss, so be sure to join us on Monday, October 30th for the recording of Episode 58! I went to South Korea for 10 days and only used my $400, 17-year-old zoom lens. I also brought my 50mm f/1.2, and I didn't touch it. My 24-105mm is a holy grail lens for me at this point, and it's the only one I used on my trip to Seoul and Busan, South Korea. In this solo episode, I'm also sharing 5 travel essentials for camera gear, tech, and packing and a recap of my trip to Asia! This week I am SO excited to welcome back for a second time: father, entrepreneur, Navy SEAL veteran, author of the incredible books, ‘Transformed' and ‘Chameleon', Founder of Keh-jo Brand apparel and The 8th film productions, film producer, writer, director of “The Unexpected”, Hollywood actor, and jack of all trades and master at ALL of them: Remi Adeleke A true riches to rags - and rags to riches story, Remi calls his life the TRUE ‘Coming to America' story. Born into African Royalty in a small country in Western Africa, his picture-perfect life took a devastating turn after circumstances surrounding the death of his beloved father forced his family to uproot to America - which began a new life filled with adversity and struggles. After years of running the streets out in The Bronx, NY, Remi knew he needed a change and enlisted in the US Navy in 2002 and began his inspirational and transformational journey from Streets to SEALs where he worked in human intelligence. His debut book biography, “Transformed: A Navy SEALs Unlikely Journey from the Throne of Africa to the Streets of the Bronx to Defying All Odds” outlines the inspirational and personal story of Remi's life and how he overcame insurmountable odds and rose to prominence in literally everything he set his mind to - including the military and breaking into Hollywood. His newest project - a fictional follow-up to ‘Transformed' called “Chameleon” - is a fictional novel loosely based on his own experiences as a SEAL. In Remi's own words, “It's a fictional extension of my memoir, ‘Transformed'. All the things that I couldn't talk about in ‘Transformed', I fictionalized and created this fictional world with fictional characters and fictional events in order to be able to tell more of my story, but in a fictional way.”  If you are a survivor or whistleblower who wants to share your story on the podcast or wants to share any information privately with me, you can now email me at IMAGINEABETTERWORLD2020@GMAIL.COM! Hz. Abdullah b.

Lopussa on muutamia malleja isojen poikien luistelutyylin valikoimasta. Viikonloppuisin laduilla on ruuhkaa.

Lahden kaupunki pyrkii torjumaan ympäristömelua ennakkoon - uusi meluselvitys valmistuu vuonna 2022

Eteläisen kehätien melua on torjuttu sijoittamalla tie kahteen tunneliin. The modern, fast-paced fashion industry feeds a culture of waste that results in millions of tonnes of textiles burned or sent to landfill every year. Brands are acknowledging the problem, increasingly labelling products with buzzwords like “circular” and marketing bags made from recycled fishing nets or shoes crafted from plastic bottles. But the industry still needs to find scalable solutions to its waste problem. This week on The BoF Podcast, chief correspondent Lauren Sherman speaks with chief executive of the Hong Kong Research Institute of Textiles and Apparel (HKRITA), Edwin Keh, about ways fashion can tackle the waste challenge. Recycling innovations that could turn old clothes back into new materials are on the horizon. But alongside investments to scale up new technologies, fashion must rethink its approach to design, Keh said. “We make stuff, we use it and we want it to go away, and we take new material and we repeat that process,” says Keh. “But not built into that process is circularity and the design intent for it to be recycled.” New recycling technologies must also have a compelling business case to be able to compete with established ways of doing business, says Keh. “If you solve the science problem and you don't make the business case for it or you don't create the logistics for it, then you have sort of like a half-baked solution that makes you feel good, works well in the lab, but doesn't have a real-world application.” The fashion industry also needs to get smarter about data analytics to understand consumer trends and manage production accordingly, Keh says. “There's a lot of opportunity to work on more intelligent ways to do analytics and… not to make [overproduction mistakes] in the first place,” he adds. Yleinen tapa on halu tulla valmiiseen pöytään.

Underwater Italian Village May Resurface

An Italian village that has been underwater since the 1940s may emerge. The village of Fabbriche di Careggine [FAB-rih-KEH dee ka-REH-jee-neh] dates back to the 13th century, and it is located in the province of Lucca, Tuscany. In 1946, a dam was constructed in the area, and the town had to be flooded in order to create an artificial lake now known as Lake Vagli. Because of this, residents had to abandon the village and relocate to neighboring towns. The village's streets are usually submerged under 34 million cubic meters of water. Beneath the water lie some structures, like stone houses and a church, which remain intact and appear only when the dam is drained for maintenance. According to local authorities, the dam has been emptied only four times since the town's flooding. When it was last emptied in 1994, a large number of tourists came to marvel at the town's eerie remains after they resurfaced. The next emptying of the dam was supposed to happen in 2016. However, it did not push through for unknown reasons. This year, Enel, the energy company that manages the dam, has announced that it is planning to drain Lake Vagli once again in 2021. Although there are no clear plans for the abandoned town's public viewing yet, the company is already working with local authorities to boost tourism in the area. Proposed initiatives include redeveloping the natural environment around the reservoir.
