IVF is getting a lot of attention this past week because of the Alabama Supreme Court ruling. For those who do not know, IVF refers to “in vitro fertilization”, and is a fertility procedure where multiple eggs are harvested from a woman, fertilized in a laboratory, and then one or more are selectively implanted back into her (or a surrogate's) uterus. And all of this matters because the basic pro-life position is that life begins at conception meaning that each of those harvested eggs that are fertilized deserve the same protection and life-honoring treatment that any other image-bearer of God should be afforded under His law. And that's really the heart of the discussion, because IVF is marketed as a this purely positive treatment for those who greatly desire to have a child, but not much attention is placed on the process itself, where in the Western world there are currently millions of frozen but fertilized embryos, many of which, no one has any plans to implant, and which will eventually, if nothing is done to prevent it, be destroyed. So, in this episode, we want to talk through the issue. Our position is pretty straightforward. IVF has a lot of serious moral problems, and while a single IVF customer might be able to find a doctor and associated laboratory that is willing to limit its egg harvesting, fertilization, and implantation so that every egg harvested is implanted, there are still moral problems with that strictly controlled process, and there is no reason to believe that the doctor and laboratory are following this strict and limited protocol with their other patients. In the end, this really does become an issue about God's sovereignty. As we see in scripture, men and women have always wrestled with the issue of fertility and offspring. And it has always been an emotional and heart-wrenching topic. But God's answer is always the same. He opens and closes the womb. Yes, there are things that man can do that do not fall outside of our obedience to God, but there are also paths that require us to sin and even kill our own children to get what we want. A day many thought would never come finally did come yesterday. The landmark precedent set by the 1973 Supreme Court decision in Roe v. Wade, making legalized abortion “the law of the land” for nearly 50-years, was officially overturned with a ruling in Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization. The harshest critics of Trump have for years impugned the character of those like me who openly supported his 2016 run for President, 4-years in office, plus a bid for re-election in 2020. But Trump pledged himself early on to nominating 2-3 Pro-Life Justices to the Supreme Court who would then overturn Roe v. Wade. And that is exactly what he did. Moreover, what we said our reasons for supporting Trump were are also the very same reasons we are celebrating now. Because they didn't get what they wanted, American Leftists are openly threatening everything from domestic terrorism across the U.S. over the next several weeks, to murdering Supreme Court Justices and their families, to burning down the Supreme Court building in our nation's capital. But let them rage and pay the consequences. Roe v. Wade being overturned does not mean abortion is suddenly illegal across the U.S. I will enthusiastically support a nationwide ban, and hope one follows, since all potential victims of murder should be afforded equal protection of our laws. But for now, Red States at least will make abortion illegal outright in their jurisdictions; and that is a good starting point. Blue States meanwhile will see an influx of “abortion tourism.” And those seeking to terminate the life of their unborn children will come to them for help in doing so. Consequently, I expect similar dynamics to take shape between Red and Blue states which allow and disallow abortion compared with how the states which formerly allowed and disallowed slavery related to one another long ago. Democrats since LBJ have done all in their power to put the dynamics of slavery back in play. Cloaking their malice in euphemisms, championing the Welfare State and mercenary support of Civil Rights for African Americans, they have presented themselves for generations as being the party of personal freedom. But slavery to sin is no freedom at all. Imagine being angry right now, as they are, that unborn children will no longer be so cruelly disposed of. Imagine believing so strongly in your “right to choose” to murder a child that you call for burning down your own country in protest, threatening violence to Supreme Court Justices when they finally tell you ‘No' after nearly five decades. For too long, Democrats got away with labeling themselves “Pro-Choice,” as if that was the natural alternative to being “Anti-Abortion.” The proper distinction has always been, however, between those who are “Pro-Life,” and therefore opposed to the murder of innocent children on the one hand, and the “Anti-Life” on the other - in favor of abortion on-demand, everywhere and anywhere, for any reason whatsoever, and calling it "healthcare." But today is our second oldest son Elihu James' 14th birthday. Lauren is driving north even now to Gillette with most of our other kids to pick up Eli and our oldest son Josiah after they spent this week in Savage, Montana. And I remember now how my wife and I were two poor young college students when we got married and had Josiah. Had we been completely different people, and reasoned like Democrats, what might we have been tempted to do when just a few short months after Josiah was born we found out we were pregnant again already, this time with a baby boy we named Elihu James? By God's grace, we chose life. And for all the things I could regret, I don't regret that for a moment. We've certainly made mistakes and foolish choices, but having these children was not among them. With such considerations in mind, I celebrate the overturning of Roe v. Today on HeimdallR's Home we spoke of the modern cult of Anti-Life that is continued via anti child agenda, anti family agenda, and the way the culture has come to vilify both the human form and the continuing of our line by having children, the push for nonexistence in Gnostic Christianity and the "Holy Family" of Jesus, Mary, and Joseph and how these figures are actually anti-life. We spoke of the beauty of our children, the joys of family, the importance of living dangerously and being willing to get your hands dirty, and how we are wild at heart and should not live in a sanitized environment as we do now.
