Tune in for our discussion of the F1 Imola Grand Prix (because the full race name is too long)! We had a reporter at the track to provide us with daily recaps of the first Formula 1 Sprint weekend of the season. Drivers were on "spin"termediate tires Friday with the gravel seeing lots of action. Qualifying had rain and red flags. The Saturday Sprint felt like a kart race and had lame medals for the top 3. The Sunday race was lacking DRS and had lame track outline trophies with no flare. We finally got invited back to the cool down room after the race. We may have come up with the proper term for a Formula 1 Sprint Grand Slam after Max Verstappen got Pole Position, Sprint win, Grand Prix win, Purple Point, and led every lap... Diamond Drive™! We have a very special episode of Purple Sector today as we not only preview the Mexican Grand Prix this weekend, but we also hop on the phone with Reid Yager who was a corporate guest of McLaren in the paddock club at Austin. First and foremost, Mut and RyGuy breakdown the very fun video that F1 finally posted of the free throw contest at the United States Grand Prix. Some drivers definitely surprised us with the quality of their shooting, and others downright disappointed. There is also some great news to get into as we discuss the WWE providing a “title belt” to Jamie Chadwick after she won the W Series championship for a second year in a row. The F1 “Overtaking Award” is getting very tight as we head into the final races of the season. Does Sebastian Vettel have what it takes to hang onto the top spot? Fernando Alonso and Carlos Sainz are nipping at his heels… Lastly, it seems that the Andretti and Sauber deal for a potential takeover of that F1 team has fallen through, which is unfortunate to say the least. Sigh. The engines will be firing up in Mexico this weekend, with everything and then some on the line for the championship still between both Max and Lewis, and their respective teams. Will Red Bull have a “Perez problem” on their hands if Checo is dialed in this weekend? Would the Mexican fans burn the place down if they swap Max for Checo late in the race for the win? What can Mercedes do this weekend to claw as much performance out of their package at altitude in Mexico City? Would they dare give Hamilton a new engine and grid penalty? And most importantly, is everyone sleeping on Ferrari this weekend? We answer all these questions and more in our Mexican Grand Prix preview. We were fortunate to be joined by our good friend Reid Yager for an interview today. Things got greasy again in Turkey! Foul weather has been on the menu for several weeks now. Ever since the heavens poured down on Spa a few weeks ago, there has been many a wet session and race in F1 and the trend continued this weekend in Turkey. Michael Masi and his boys may have "water blasted" this track to improve the surface grip but it still made for an interesting weekend of tire decisions! Red Bull got things started with a very good looking special livery as a tribute to Honda. Elsewhere, the medical car has a bad case of COVID because both Dr. Ian Roberts and Alan Van Der Merwe were missing this weekend after positive COVID test results. Come Saturday's practice sessions, it wasn't just the track that was wet at times, but also Kimi Raikkonen's boots! Kimi had yet ANOTHER issue with his drink system in the car, you can basically set your watch to that happening at this point. Engine penalties galore again! Carlos Sainz announced early that he would be taking an entirely new power unit so he would start from the back of the grid. From there, Lewis Hamilton joined him by replacing his internal combustion engine for a 10 place grid penalty, so things were looking to get very spicy for race day. Big surprises came even before then however with a wild qualifying session that saw an unlikely Q1 exit for Daniel Ricciardo! The bigger shock was Mick Schumacher dragging that god awful Haas car into Q2 for the first time this year! Mercedes looked unstoppable with their straightline speed and they finished a predictable 1-2 in qualys. Fernando Alonso had his best Saturday in 7 years as he started P5 in the race. Everyone's alarm clock went off on Sunday morning and they immediately saw that the track was greasy and wet! Once the five lights went out, it was a battle against the track, the tires, and at times the drivers. We saw some decent battling on track including an epic 4-5 corner scrum between Lewis Hamilton and Sergio Perez, and also some odd decision making by Mercedes and Lewis, and also Esteban Ocon doing the first "no stopper" race in 20+ years! We talk everything from team radio, to the trophies, to recapping our bold predictions for the race! Join us on Purple Sector as we cover all the crazy, greasy, wet action from this year's Turkish Grand Prix!

The Formula 1 race in Turkey is setting up to be a wild weekend. Weather may play a factor, the track surface has been water blasted, Pirelli could have some issues, and engine penalties shall mix up the grid. We also tease a dangerous looking trophy, Red Bull's white livery, and AlphaTauri's Italian homage. We are sad to miss out on the Japanese Grand Prix at Suzuka but expect Turkey to deliver. Tune in for our breakdown of the F1 Russian Grand Prix! Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll kicked off the race weekend by bonding over Harley-Davidson motorcycles. Lewis Hamilton had some uncharacteristic mistakes when he smashed into his front jackman, banged the pit wall in Qualifying, and spun on his last flying lap. RyGuy correctly predicted Lando Norris' first career Pole Position. Max Verstappen took a new engine and clawed his way from the back of the grid to 2nd place. The Turn 2 polystyrene bollards were comical and allowed Fernando Alonso to make a cheeky move on the opening lap. We didn't have a Russian anthem but instead got a ballerina atop a spinning piano. Lando Norris looked to be on his way to a first career victory in Formula 1, but the weather had other ideas. We discovered that the slow pit stops are because mechanics forget to flip a switch on the wheel gun. Carlos Sainz finally got a proper podium celebration. Damon Hill decided to do his own podcast in the post-race interviews. Congratulations to Lewis Hamilton on an insane 100 victories (99 if you ask Sebastian Vettel)! Mercedes is hoping they "reign" this weekend to claim their 10th victory in as many Grands Prix in Russia. Ferrari is finally unleashing a hybrid system on their power unit, and Charles Leclerc will start at the back of the grid. What exactly is horsepower? What will Red Bull do with Max Verstappen's engine since he is carrying a 3-place grid penalty from the Maxxident? Can Checo carry the load if Max drops to the back of the grid? Tune in for an Aussie Mailboxboxbox and some breaking news! Listeners hit us up about how they're still buzzing and doing shoeys after Daniel Ricciardo's win at the F1 Italian Grand Prix. There were also more thoughts on Sergio Perez's tuna pizza. With only one seat seemingly available on the grid, the Silly Season rumors are swirling at Alfa Romeo. Antonio Giovinazzi and Guanyu Zhou have Italy and China in a bidding war. Martin Whitmarsh was announced as Aston Martin Performance Technologies Group CEO, and Larry Stroll is already demanding Championships and a 1 billion pound valuation in 4-5 years. Lewis Hamilton was spared injury in the Maxxident by the halo's London Bus vertical load requirement (or 109 Arnold Schwarzeneggers). Daniel Ricciardo spilled the beans to GQ about his race day diet, and it doesn't actually include beans. Of course, we inevitably discuss pee and poop around Esteban Ocon's piss test and Charles Leclerc's diarrhea. The last couple weeks have also been difficult for squirrels. Not only that, they did it in spectacular fashion with Daniel Ricciardo on the top step and Lando Norris right behind him in P2. Zak Brown is probably still partying and raiding someone's liquor cabinet as you read this. Elsewhere, teammate rivalries seem to be heating up! Practice sessions gave us lots of action with Max Verstappen and Charles Leclerc hitting the barrier, Kimi Raikkonen clipping the pit wall, and Fernando Alonso letting us look through his visor with the helmet cam. We also do Helmut on Helmets to discuss specialty lids from Yuki Tsunoda, Pierre Gasly, Mick Schumacher, and others. Rain brought us excitement on Saturday with a hectic Qualifying, Lance Stroll cussing, Lando Norris wrecking, and George Russell flying! Rain brought us mainly the Mercedes Safety Car on Sunday with fans gutting out the weather, Nikita Mazepin scoring fastest lap, zero retirements (thanks to the Red Bull mechanics), and a "race" shorter than the Formula 1 theme song. We did learn that Pierre Gasly loves sausages, and had it confirmed once again that Lewis Hamilton does not like people pooping in his toilets. A bizarre podium was an awkward bookend to the weekend in Belgium with a trophy that felt as incomplete as the Sunday letdown. Can we get our money back?
