Guest host Kevin Rapillo (Nashville touring/session drummer) joins Clint to revisit 1984's Ride the Lightning. In 1984 Kevin was going to Berkley School of Music in Boston, MA trying to make it big with his band Kid Crash, who would go on to sign a major label record deal. Before burning down Lightning, Clint and Kevin talk about the metal scene in the early 80's, the almost insane competitive tenacity of youth and how that's essential for success, the Scorpions, Lars' drumming, the massive artistic leap from KEA to RTL and which Boston accent was the worst in Martin Scorsese's The Departed. In this episode, we introduce our new co-host Dr. Jay Graham, Associate Professor in Residence of Environmental Health Sciences, at the University of California, Berkley School of Public Health. Together, with Dr. Lance Price, they discuss a new study that suggests that Escherichia coli and other disease-causing microbes are passing easily between humans and animals in Cambodia, a country where clean water, sanitation and hygienic controls are lacking in many regions. The continuous exchange, along with unregulated antibiotic use, leads to the emergence and spread of drug-resistant E. coli. Our guest is Maya Nadimpalli who, along with colleagues, conducted the research in Phnom Penh, an urban area where humans and animals are often living in close proximity without clean water or other environmental controls that help prevent the spread of E. coli and other potentially dangerous microbes. Check our the paper here and ESPECIALLY look at the graphics. To learn more about our new co-host, check out his bio. To learn more about co-host, Lance Price, click here.
The local singer / songwriter came in studio to meet Adam and share her original music. At 18, having just graduated from Templeton High, she plans to attend the Berkley School of Music in Boston in the fall. Early on her path, it was fun to get to know Elyse, and there's not doubt she has talent in more than her voice, but her writing is solid! Along with Mr Big members Eric Martin, Paul Gilbert and Pat Torpey, they recorded and toured the world for a decade more, till disbanding in 2002. During that time he found time to start “Niacin” a fusion/blues trio based around the Hammond B3 sound that featured drummer Dennis Chambers. He rejoined his old bandmate Steve Vai for several tours as well as Steve's “Real Illusions” record and tour. After he released several solo records and much more, Mr Big reunited in 2009 and performed a sold-out world tour, and then recorded “What If…” in 2011…to rave reviews and another sold-out world tour. Most recently Billy joined Mike Portnoy and Richie Kotzen to form “:The Winery Dogs”. I studied Music theory with Schuyler Collins from the Berkley School of Music, and Voice with Master Vocal technician Nikki Cukor in New York. For several years I played bass and was lead vocalist for several top drawing bands on the east coast club circuit. I then decided to move on to Los Angeles, to further pursue my music career. I was one of the TOP TEN BASSISTS picked by BILLY SHEEHAN for the MUSICIAN'S INSTITUTE Scholarship Contest. I then attended the well-known school, not only graduating at the top of the class with the VOCATIONAL HONORS AWARD, but also receiving the HUMAN RELATIONS AWARD at M.I. in 1995. This led me to assistant teaching and private instruction at Musician's Institute

Cordane Richardson stands 6 feet 7 inches. Let me say that again. Cordane Richardson is 6 feet 7 inches tall. Cordane, moves as gracefully on the basketball court as his fingers do on the ivory keys of any piano. His dad? A painter and well-loved high school science teacher. His mom? A legendary instructor and authority on all things music. Being raised by these parents allowed Cordane to explore several subjects within the sphere of academia, in addition to diving head first into the arts. He admits that his painting ability peaked at age 12. Evidently water color, acrylics and oils were not in his future. But that was ok. He still had music. With an expert teacher as a mother, it wasn’t a bad plan B.Cordane started playing the piano at age 3, and by age 14 he had completed all examination levels of the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music. He was sure that this was his calling. After completing University in San Diego, he decided to reach higher and completed his masters at the Berkley School of Music’s campus in Valencia, Spain.Today Cordane is an excellent musician and composer. Meticulous yet emotive. His compositions are informed by the countless hours of classical music which he practiced on his parents’ piano, yet still brushed by the rhythms of soca, dancehall and reggae that his ears could not avoid, growing up in the Caribbean. His work puts him in a world where entertainment and the arts intersect and live happily.Cordane Richardson. Remember his name. If you can’t, please write it down. It is poised to be amid great media composers like John Williams. Yes he has quite a ways to go, but if what he has accomplished is any indication. He’ll get there. Here is the story… thus far… of Cordane Richardson.

Lance Brown is an artist, actor, musician and song writer who has lived by his wits and creativity since 1977. He holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Denver and studied music composition, theory and performance for 3 semesters at the University of Maine under Roswell Rudd, jazz trombonist of Berkley School of Music fame. His songwriting education came from 4 years in the US Navy, 4 years as a social worker in a state institution for the mentally challenged and the various life experiences he has gleaned from traveling as a working actor and musician for the last 22 years. His mainstay has been a one-person show called "Will Rogers Now" which he has toured nationwide for the last 22 years. During all this time he has been a prolific songwriter penning pieces ranging from the patently absurd to the deeply philosophical. On the absurd end he and collaborator Steve Wellman created the satirical "Somewhat Fractured History of the World Show" which was billed as a history of the world from the Big Bang to the present in silly songs and stupid music. Lance performed that show nationwide for 10 years. Lance's satirical songs have found their way onto the "Dr. Demento Show" out of Los Angeles ("Buzzards in Love" "Soap on a Rope") and many local radio stations WBEZ, WFMT and WNUR ("The Dan Ryan Blues). He also performs around Chicago with his Lance Brown Group playing his own form of bluesy jazz and jazzy blues. Here's the link to all the videos from this Podcast.
