Chuck Wright is today's guest. When Chuck is not fighting crime by night, he is best known as the bassist from Quiet Riot!   Thank you for being here with me, Bruce Hilliard and today's guest Chuck Wright, to talk about his new and first solo album, or project as he refers to it, Chuck Wright's Sheltering Sky. Chuck is proud and excited to release his debut solo album, Sheltering Sky, on Los Angeles-based Cleopatra Records, on May 20.   The album features guest appearances by several of Wright's musical peers including keyboardist Derek Sherinian (Dream Theater/Billy Idol), guitarist Lanny Cordola (House of Lords), vocalist Jeff Scott Soto (Yngwie Malmsteen), Troy Luccketta (Tesla) and the late Mr. Big drummer, Pat Torpey. The album's 11 tracks also illustrate Wright's impressive songwriting ability as he either wrote or co-wrote all nine original songs on the album.  Also included is an edgy, intense version of Bjork's “Army of Me” along with a soulful, Celtic-rock take on the The Youngbloods classic, “Darkness, Darkness.”  Chuck also produced and engineered most of the album. Sheltering Sky exhibits a diversity and breadth of musical styles that embraces facets of Wright's hard rock legacy while also delving into a more varied side of Chuck's musical vision with well-written songs that feature ethereal guitar work, tasteful, soulful 70s era influences, Prog, Jazz Fusion and even a bit of heavy funk.  Besides his usual outstanding bass work as performed on a variety of different bass instruments, Wright also contributes on keys and acoustic guitar on several tracks. The new single from Sheltering Sky is Throwin' Stones, a fierce and passionate call for the end of armed conflict, a call which couldn't be more perfectly timed for today's world.  It features a heavy funk groove that emphasizes Wright's powerhouse playing and the various playing techniques for which he is known.

We had a great conversation with the amazing Chuck Wright. We talked about many things from music, sacrifices, his time with the iconic rock band Quiet Riot, his story, he told some really great stories to a whole lot more!Chuck is proud and excited to release his debut solo album, Sheltering Sky, on Los Angeles-based Cleopatra Records, on May 20. Also included is an edgy, intense version of Bjork's “Army of Me” along with a soulful, Celtic-rock take on the The Youngbloods classic, “Darkness, Darkness.” Chuck also produced and engineered most of the album.Sheltering Sky exhibits a diversity and breadth of musical styles that embraces facets of Wright's hard rock legacy while also delving into a more varied side of Chuck's musical vision with well-written songs that feature ethereal guitar work, tasteful, soulful 70s era influences, Prog, Jazz Fusion and even a bit of heavy funk. It features a heavy funk groove that emphasizes Wright's powerhouse playing and the various playing techniques for which he is known.Wright is best known as a long-time member of multi-platinum heavy metal band Quiet Riot. He originally joined Quiet Riot in 1981, playing bass on the tracks "Metal Health (Bang Your Head)" and "Don't Wanna Let You Go," as well as singing background vocals on all tracks from the 1983 multi-platinum album Metal Health, which was the first metal album to ever reach #1 on the Billboard 200 chart (in November 1983).He performed, toured the world, and recorded with Quiet Riot on-and-off for 26 years…recording nine albums with the band, before departing the band again. As of now, he is no longer a member of Quiet Riot as he concentrates on his solo career and new album.Wright is featured in the documentary Quiet Riot – Well Now You're Here, directed and produced by Regina Russell. It premiered at the Newport Beach Film Festival on April 29, 2014, was seen at the Cannes Film Festival, and has aired on the Showtime Network.

This episode is one of my favorites.  Eric Martin hits on Herbie Herbert, Chris Jericho and Fozzy, along with incredible stories from an incredible career.... Eric Martin started his career singing at the end of the 70's for a San Francisco band called 415. With 415, Eric played hundreds of shows opening for established act like Billy Squire, Hall & Oats, Journey, ZZ Top and Foreigner to name a few. 415 was signed to Elektra/Asylum records and “Sucker for a pretty face” was released after a name change to the Eric Martin Band (EMB). In 1988-89, Eric would team up with Billy Sheehan, Pat Torpey and Paul Gilbert to form Mr. Big. They would enjoy enormous success with the release of many studio albums, numerous hit singles and top-selling live cd's. Combined, worldwide sales topped the 7 million mark. Mr. Big's second album, 1991's Lean Into It, was a major commercial breakthrough, especially two ballads, "To Be with You" (which went to number one in fifteen countries) and "Just Take My Heart", as well as the song "Green-Tinted Sixties Mind"

He has toured internationally and performed in over 20 countries. He shares his story of meeting AC/DC when his band opened for the Australian rockers on their 1st US tour, how his mentor and manager Herbie Herbert helped him achieve his dreams, getting a call from Edward VanHalen, almost joining Toto, how having children slowed his creative output, how when he met his hero Paul Rodgers from Free, Bad Company, The Firm and Queen and remembers his friend and band mate Pat Torpey. Along with Steve Vai & Gregg Bissonette, the legendary Eat ‘Em and Smile record and tour went on to platinum status and sold out shows everywhere. Leaving in 1987 to start his own new band, he founded Mr. Big, who went on to achieve a number one hit in fourteen countries, staying number 1 in the USA BillBoard charts for 3 solid weeks. Along with Mr Big members Eric Martin, Paul Gilbert and Pat Torpey, they recorded and toured the world for a decade more, till disbanding in 2002. During that time he found time to start “Niacin” a fusion/blues trio based around the Hammond B3 sound that featured drummer Dennis Chambers. He rejoined his old bandmate Steve Vai for several tours as well as Steve's “Real Illusions” record and tour. After he released several solo records and much more, Mr Big reunited in 2009 and performed a sold-out world tour, and then recorded “What If…” in 2011…to rave reviews and another sold-out world tour. Most recently Billy joined Mike Portnoy and Richie Kotzen to form “:The Winery Dogs”. Their first release in July of 2013 entered the BillBoard Top 200 Albums at #27…and has been received everywhere with spectacular reviews and sold-out shows. With his history of live performances and/or recordings with Talas, UFO, David Lee Roth, Mr. Big, Niacin, Steve Vai and now The Winery Dogs, he has had ahuge and undeniable influence on modern bass playing that has spread all over the globe, and will continue for many years to come.Francesco DiCosmoHaving been influenced by a musical family, I began singing at age five. I started teaching myself bass at age fourteen when I was inspired by Various artists in Rock, Prog Rock, Blues, R&B, and Funk and Fusion music. I studied Music theory with Schuyler Collins from the Berkley School of Music, and Voice with Master Vocal technician Nikki Cukor in New York. For several years I played bass and was lead vocalist for several top drawing bands on the east coast club circuit. I then decided to move on to Los Angeles, to further pursue my music career. I was one of the TOP TEN BASSISTS picked by BILLY SHEEHAN for the MUSICIAN'S INSTITUTE Scholarship Contest. I then attended the well-known school, not only graduating at the top of the class with the VOCATIONAL HONORS AWARD, but also receiving the HUMAN RELATIONS AWARD at M.I. in 1995. This led me to assistant teaching and private instruction at Musician's Institute

The shuffle is one of the most elusive grooves for any musician to master. It certainly complicates matters when there are numerous regional and genre interpretations to consider. In this show Phil and Jon spend some time discussing their experiences and listening to some of their favorite recorded shuffles. But first we take a moment to discuss the lean winter months and answer listener questions. We tackle an inquiry regarding the perceived importance and differentiation between the various types of wood used to construct drum shells. If all other tuning and equipment variables are equal are different woods discernable to our audience? What about fellow musicians? We then discuss the recent deaths of drumming greats, Leon Ndugu Chancler and Pat Torpey. We talk about their drumming careers, great recordings they appear on, and Ndugu's educational legacy. Finally the main topic of the day is addressed with each host mentioning how they first learned to play various shuffles. We also remember which shuffle songs made the biggest initial impression on us. We then go through the many different genres and eras of music that popularized the various shuffles that all drummers must be familiar with. Great drummers such as: Art Blakey, Mel Lewis, Steve Gadd, Bernard Purdie, Jeff Porcaro, Jabo Starks, Chris Layton, Billy Cobham, and more are discussed. Furthermore we listen to some of our favorite recorded shuffles and talk through what makes them great. If you haven't taken the time visit our new web site now is the time to do so! Steve Cooper talks with bassist Billy Sheehan. Billy started in his hometown of Buffalo, NY in the early ’70’s with the now legendary hard rock trio Talas, he went on to join David Lee Roth in the summer of ’85 when Dave quit Van Halen to go out on his own. During that time he found time to start Niacin a fusion/blues trio based around the Hammond B3 sound that featured drummer Dennis Chambers. He rejoined his old bandmate Steve Vai for several tours as well as Steve’s Real Illusions record and tour. After he released several solo records and much more, Mr Big reunited in 2009 and performed a sold-out world tour, and then recorded What If… in 2011 to rave reviews and another sold-out world tour. Most recently he joined Mike Portnoy and Richie Kotzen to form The Winery Dogs. Their first release in July of 2013 entered the BillBoard Top 200 Albums at #27 and has been received everywhere with spectacular reviews and sold-out shows.

BIG. Новая пластинка "Deep" была наполнена клавишными пассажами в духе Джона Лорда (Jon Lord, ex- DEEP PURPLE), плюс к этому для разнообразия был приглашен вокалист Гленн Хьюз (Glenn Hughes, ex- DEEP PURPLE, BLACK SABBATH), исполнивший блюзовую вещь "Things Aint Like They Used To Be".
