On this episode of Inside MusiCast, we're joined by three amazing musicians whose pedigrees in the music industry speak for themselves. Former Inside MusiCast guests, Gregg Bissonette and Andy Timmons, along with Matt Bissonette are here to discuss The Reddcoats, a band that was formed in 2019 and also includes Wally Minko and Ron Pedley on keys, and Mike Medina on percussion. The Reddcoats sound explores a lot of musical territory, with a mix of power pop, jazz, rock, and even a little funk. While the approach to their music is free-spirited, the performances are air tight, with a great blend of instrumental compositions, along with songs that deliver great vocals and vocal harmonies. The band recently released a brand new album titled The Reddcoats 2, and we're honored to have Gregg, Matt and Andy here to chat about it. Hey guys, welcome to Inside MusiCast.

Ringo Starr finally made it to Boston on Thursday, June 2, to receive his honorary degree from the Berklee College of Music. The school originally announced that The Beatles drummer would receive a doctorate in music at commencement ceremonies in May, but Starr was unable to attend then and instead addressed the graduating class in a recorded statement. But with Ringo Starr and his All Starr Band in town for a show, the school held a special ceremony to honor his lifelong contributions to the music scene that featured performances of Starr's hit songs, arranged and performed by Berklee students. Starr, 81, told the story of how he picked up drumming when he was 13 and very ill and someone brought some percussion instruments to the hospital to keep him busy. He was hooked. “I just wanted to be a drummer from that moment on," he said at Thursday's ceremony. “It was my big dream and it's still unfolding. I get to play with great guys, like the band here. It's just a great life I lead." Gregg Bissonette, the drummer in the All Starr Band, and Berklee President Erica Muhl provided opening remarks. This article was provided by The Associated Press.

Every show Kevin opens the crypt to exhume and dissect from his personal collection; an artist, album, or collection of tunes from the broad spectrum of rock, punk, and metal. Robert is usually forced to test his endurance, but this week is all about songs firmly in his big bang zone. Our hope is that we turn you on to something that was lost on your ears, even with this collection of great dance songs from one of the biggest selling rock acts of all time.Songs this week include:Body Count – “Ace Of Spades (Motörhead)” from Carnivore (2020)Dredg – “Astronomy Domine (Pink Floyd)” from Like Black Holes In The Sky: The Tribute To Syd Barrett (2008) Tigertailz – “Creeping Death (Metallica)” from Banzai! (1991)Corabi/Kulick/Franklin/Bissonette – “Hot For Teacher (Van Halen)” from Little Guitars – A Tribute To Van Halen (2000)Destruction – “We Are The Road Crew (Motörhead)” from Inventor Of Evil (2005)Farflung – “The Nile Song (Pink Floyd)” from A Saucerful Of Pink (1995)Hayseed Dixie – “Runnin' With The Devil (Van Halen)” from A Hot Piece Of Grass (2005)Motörhead – “Whiplash (Metallica)” from Under Cöver (2005)Check out Robert's amazing fire sculptures and metal workings here: http://flamewerx.com/Please subscribe everywhere that you listen to podcasts!Visit us: https://inobscuria.com/https://www.facebook.com/InObscuriahttps://twitter.com/inobscuriahttps://www.instagram.com/inobscuria/Buy cool stuff with our logo on it!: https://www.redbubble.com/people/InObscuria?asc=uIf you'd like to check out Kevin's band THE SWEAR, take a listen on all streaming services or pick up a digital copy of their latest release here: https://theswear.bandcamp.com/If you want to hear Robert and Kevin's band from the late 90s – early 00s BIG JACK PNEUMATIC, check it out here: https://bigjackpnuematic.bandcamp.com/
A funny and informative chat with legendary Drum Techs, Harry McCarthy and Jeff Chonis. Two of my oldest friends and two of the best drum techs in the business. We covered their early days in the business, the beginning of Drum Paradise in Los Angeles, Harry moving to Nashville to open Drum Paradise Nashville and some of their clients, such as Ringo Starr, Max Weinberg, Jeff Porcaro, Steve Gadd, Vinnie Colaiuta, Stan Lynch, Gregg Bissonette, Randy Castillo, Chad Cromwell, Eddie Bayers, Seth Rausch and many more!
The latest episode of "The DLR Cast" features Darren's recent conversation with Michael Musselman, who drummed with Dave for his 2020 Vegas residency and on tour with KISS. Musselman studied under legendary drummer — and current Ringo Starr All-Starr Band drummer — Gregg Bissonette before graduating from the Musicians Institute. His credits also include work with Keith Urban, Jaden Smith, ¿Téo?, Ryan Cabrera, Pretty Sister, and Figs Vision. Musselman also has a band of his own called MainMan, which made a splash with the single “W.W.H.” Follow him on Instagram via @MusselmanDrums. Prior to that, Steve and Darren talk about Dave's 2021/2022 Vegas shows, what they think the future may hold for DLR, and more. Thanks for listening!
King Diamond/Shaolin Death Squad drummer Matt Thompson talks about his history in Texas with both local gigs and studying at University of North Texas with the infamous Ed Soph, the challenges of graduating the percussion program there at the time, growing up with concert band, jazz band and marching band in New Jersey, how a modern drummer article changed his perspective on studying various styles of music, how an early interest in drummer Gregg Bissonette and seeing a young Keith Carlock coincided with his move to UNT, how Sean Reinert changed the game, learning the back catalogue and proceeding with new material with King Diamond, lessons imparted by the great Tony Williams, and much more!
Lanes Lair is a musician. In 2015, he released his debut album Resurrection Of Black which received critical acclaim throughout Europe and the United States. Featured on the album are Gregg Bissonette on drums (Ringo Starr, Joe Satriani) and his brother Matt Bissonette on bass (Elton John). This "album of awareness" is energetic classic rock with a progressive edge.Three years later in 2018, Lanes Lair's second album 11:11 was released.Lanes Lair is currently working on his third album called E.R., which will be a much more aggressively energetic vibe...very intense. In this week's episode, we bow down as low as we can get to the almighty bass guitar heroes! The heart of rock n' roll is the rhythm and this week we explore some of the most amazing low-frequency providers. How do they make such wonderful noise with metal wires on a piece of wood? This subject holds a very special place in Kevin's heart, as he tries very hard to play the same instrument that we are praising this week. What's this InObscuria thing? We're a podcast that exhumes obscure Rock n' Punk n' Metal and puts them in one of 3 categories: the Lost, the Forgotten, or the Should Have Beens. This week we discuss all three. Get out your old Bass Player mags and flip the pages as we discuss some of the most amazing fingers to ever slappa da bass!Go support Martin Motnik and his amazing new solo album Dream Chaser here!: https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/martin-motnik-s-solo-cd-2-with-world-class-guests#/Songs this week include:Geddy Lee – “Home On The Strange” from My Favourite Headache (2000)Squackett – “Storm Chaser” from A Life Within A Day (2012)Infectious Grooves – “Good For Nothing” from Mas Borracho (2000)Billy Sheehan – “From The Backseat” from Cosmic Troubadour (2005)Martin Motnik – “Departure” from Dream Chaser (2021)Béla Fleck & The Flecktones – “The Sinister Minister” from Béla Fleck & The Flecktones (1990)Kiyoshi – “Warning” from Kiyoshi4 (2019)Gov't Mule – “Greasy Granny's Gopher Gravy (Part 1)” from The Deep End - Volume 2 (2002)Please subscribe everywhere that you listen to podcasts!Visit us: https://inobscuria.com/https://www.facebook.com/InObscuriahttps://twitter.com/inobscuriahttps://www.instagram.com/inobscuria/Buy cool stuff with our logo on it!: https://www.redbubble.com/people/InObscuria?asc=uIf you'd like to check out Kevin's band THE SWEAR, take a listen on all streaming services or pick up a digital copy of their latest release here: https://theswear.bandcamp.com/If you want to hear Robert and Kevin's band from the late 90s – early 00s BIG JACK PNEUMATIC, check it out here: https://bigjackpnuematic.bandcamp.com/
Darren and Steve discuss David Lee Roth's recent appearance at the MTV Video Music Awards, what was said and what wasn't, the soon-to-be-50th anniversary of Dave and Alex Van Halen "ragging on each other," and will Dave be in Las Vegas for New Year's Eve? Then, Darren talks with the amazing Billy Sheehan, discussing the new 30th anniversary edition of Mr. Big's "Lean Into It" album, coming up in Buffalo, New York, his years with Talas, Harvey Weinstein, writing and recording the new Winery Dogs album, almost making the ill-fated "Eat 'Em and Smile" movie, getting together with Steve Vai and Gregg Bissonette, some thoughts on the "Skyscraper" album, and Darren's year is made as Billy talks about the making of "Sonrisa Salvaje!"
We're back this week with another great conversation as Billy Sheehan & Gregg Bissonette reflect on Eat 'Em & Smile. This legendary album by David Lee Roth was released July 7, 1986 and peaked at #4 on the US Billboard charts. More importantly, it was an absolute statement being put forth by the former Van Halen front man that he could still swing for the fences. With a powerful backing band including the rhythm section of Sheehan and Bissonette combined with the guitar acrobatics of Steve Vai, the Eat 'Em & Smile album is loaded with hooks, precision, and the patented tongue-in-cheek lyrics of Roth. It's a true example of rock's dominance in the 80's.This interview was recorded live on-stage at the ROCKNPOD Expo in Nashville, TN on Saturday August 7, 2021. In this discussion, Billy & Gregg give the full backstory of how they hooked up with David Lee Roth, the audition process, album recording and much more. Their stories are incredibly entertaining and we think you'll get a kick out of these two legends reconnecting with each other. We hope you enjoy Albums Unleashed Eat 'Em & Smile with Billy Sheehan & Gregg Bissonette and SHARE with a friend!Decibel Geek is a proud member of the Pantheon Podcasts family.

Billy Sheehan has played bass on dozens of records and toured all over the world for many decades. His unique and original style of playing has been celebrated and documented everywhere. His playing, singing, songwriting, and contributions to his many recordings have resulted in millions of records sold, Platinum and Gold status worldwide, Reader's Poll Awards too many to list, Number #1 hits, Number #1 Video's, sold-out shows, and most importantly the mutual love, friendship and respect between himself and many millions of fans around the globe.Starting in his hometown of Buffalo, NY in the early '70's with the now legendary hard rock trio Talas, he went on to join David Lee Roth in the summer of '85 when Dave quit Van Halen to go out on his own. Along with Steve Vai & Gregg Bissonette, the legendary Eat ‘Em and Smile record and tour went on to platinum status and sold out shows everywhere. Leaving in 1987 to start his own new band, he founded Mr. Big, who went on to achieve a number one hit in fourteen countries, staying number 1 in the USA BillBoard charts for 3 solid weeks. Along with Mr Big members Eric Martin, Paul Gilbert and Pat Torpey, they recorded and toured the world for a decade more, till disbanding in 2002. During that time he found time to start “Niacin” a fusion/blues trio based around the Hammond B3 sound that featured drummer Dennis Chambers. He rejoined his old bandmate Steve Vai for several tours as well as Steve's “Real Illusions” record and tour. After he released several solo records and much more, Mr Big reunited in 2009 and performed a sold-out world tour, and then recorded “What If…” in 2011…to rave reviews and another sold-out world tour. Most recently Billy joined Mike Portnoy and Richie Kotzen to form “:The Winery Dogs”. Their first release in July of 2013 entered the BillBoard Top 200 Albums at #27…and has been received everywhere with spectacular reviews and sold-out shows. With his history of live performances and/or recordings with Talas, UFO, David Lee Roth, Mr. Big, Niacin, Steve Vai and now The Winery Dogs, he has had ahuge and undeniable influence on modern bass playing that has spread all over the globe, and will continue for many years to come.Francesco DiCosmoHaving been influenced by a musical family, I began singing at age five. I started teaching myself bass at age fourteen when I was inspired by Various artists in Rock, Prog Rock, Blues, R&B, and Funk and Fusion music. I studied Music theory with Schuyler Collins from the Berkley School of Music, and Voice with Master Vocal technician Nikki Cukor in New York. For several years I played bass and was lead vocalist for several top drawing bands on the east coast club circuit. I then decided to move on to Los Angeles, to further pursue my music career. I was one of the TOP TEN BASSISTS picked by BILLY SHEEHAN for the MUSICIAN'S INSTITUTE Scholarship Contest. I then attended the well-known school, not only graduating at the top of the class with the VOCATIONAL HONORS AWARD, but also receiving the HUMAN RELATIONS AWARD at M.I. in 1995. This led me to assistant teaching and private instruction at Musician's Institute
What's that? It's a State of Amorica Bonus Episode! Recorded live at the RocknPod Expo in Nashville TN, David and Ian sit down with renown drummer Gregg Bissonette (David Lee Roth, Ringo Starr) for a great conversation before none other than Billy Sheehan makes a surprise appearance. Steve Lukather a expliqué : "Je ne me suis jamais autant amusé à enregistrer. Aucun souci, c’était facile, tout allait de soi." L’artiste a également choisi d’intégrer trois reprises à cet album : "Low Spark Of High Heeled Boys" de Traffic, "Welcome To The Club" de Joe Walsh et "Bridge Of Sighs" de Robin Trower. --- Diffusion le mercredi 3 mars à 21h sur Classic 21.

My guest today on Episode #300 is Dennis Moody who’s the engineer of choice for some of the worlds top drummers, including Dave Weckl, Steve Gadd, Vinnie Colaiuta, Gregg Bissonette, and many more. He’s also one of the few studio engineers that also tours the world as a front of house engineer as well. Dennis was my first guest on my very first podcast back almost 6 years ago. Since then he’s been the only guest to return more than twice, appearing on podcasts 50, 100, 150 and 200 to bring us updates in the world of audio from various parts of the globe. During the interview we spoke about the trends in audio (especially live sound), the economics of the touring business, using subwoofers, the search for the mic that works better than an SM58, and much more. On the intro I’ll take a look at how streaming hit over 1 trillion streams last year but is actually slowing, and how music can evoke up to 13 emotions.
“Well, I don’t wanna sound like that guy but I am the happiest I’ve ever been in my life!” Gregg Bissonette has enjoyed an amazing career in music. The Detroit native has had the pleasure of playing with such artists as David Lee Roth, Ringo Starr, Maynard Ferguson, Carlos Santana, Don Henley, his brother Matt and many others. As you can probably tell based on those names alone, Gregg is incredibly versatile musically. Beyond that though, Gregg is also known for being down to earth, professional, comical, and friendly. All of these attributes have certainly helped him in sustaining his life in music. Gregg proudly endorses Dixon Drums, Sabian Cymbals, Vic Firth drumsticks, Remo Drumheads, DW Drum pedals, Samson Audio, LP Percussion, Audix Mics, Gregg Bissonette signature stick bag by Kaces, XL Specialty road cases, Beato drum bags, LT lug locks. You Will Hear About…. How Gregg got into voice over work Gregg shares some priceless advice for working drummers Why Should You Listen? Gregg’s name has come up before in DrumeoGab interviews and it always seems to come back to the same overall message. Besides the fact that Gregg is a great guy, it boils down to his great experiential advice that he provides the pros with. When he speaks, you listen. So, with that being said we have an hour of that here. It’s great fundamental wisdom that you can’t go wrong with. From the importance of being positive, grateful, professional, able, down to earth, helpful and versatile. It is all here. There is a particularly strong message in there where he talks about other people who can try to rob you of your happiness and why we should just stay in our lane and keep working on being the best version of ourselves. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yfabTGZjCEQ Gregg’s Socials Instagram Facebook Website Drumeo Gab’s Socials Instagram Facebook
“You just keep working and you have short-term goals. For me, it was a very slow up-hill climb.” Glen Sobel, an L.A. born and raised drummer, is a familiar name within the industry. He has held the gig with Alice Cooper for over eight years and has also been working with Hollywood Vampires, featuring Alice, Joe Perry, and Johnny Depp! That is quite a heavy list of names, isn’t it? Beyond that, he has also toured with Chris Impellitteri, Jennifer Batten (Michael Jackson's guitarist), Tony Macalpine, Gary Hoey, Warner Bros recording act Beautiful Creatures (Ozzfest tour), Cypress Hill and many others. Glen has a reputation as being a quick study. He can learn a whole set of live material in a day or track an entire album worth of material on very short notice. He has a method of creating a cheat sheet that has helped him achieve such remarkable results and maintain his successful career over many years. Two examples of where he was thrown in the fire were when he subbed for Vasco Rossi’s Matt Laug and also Tommy Lee of Motley Crue. Both of these gigs were sudden and forced him to learn and execute material quickly. I was excited to speak to Glen because of his pistol hot reputation as a hired gun. It is a fiercely competitive career and Glen has proven his worth over and over again. I thought that having Glen speak about his expertise on the podcast would bring a lot of value to anyone who either is already slugging it out in this role or those who are just beginning their journey. There is a lot of useful and promising advice in this episode for our community. You Will Hear About…. Glen talks about his first band ever, Bourbon Street. Us talking about how deep interest and passion in something can lead to success over time. CBG’s (Character Building Gigs). When is it time to move on or stay on board to see if what you envision becomes reality. The advice and mentorship that Gregg Bissonette has provided Glen with. How Glen prepared and executed some major sub in gigs. We’re talking about Matt Laug and Tommy Lee. Glen’s neck injury several years ago and what he does now to preserve himself and also future proof his career. If Glen couldn’t play drums anymore, what else would he do? How real is the rock n’ roll image? Is it just an image? Are there too many samples in modern rock music? Are typical bar gigs for 50 people better or worse than playing sold out arenas with Alice Cooper? Why Should You Listen? To have a lengthy conversation with one of rock music’s finest hired guns in the business is a rare opportunity. I felt it was paramount to have him share his first-hand experiences being a hired gun. It is so that all of you can both have a better vantage point to the real side of this industry. You could get caught up with dreams and visions of a life better than your own and maybe something like what Glen does is the answer; in your mind. I wanted to both demystify this fantasy and also provide helpful tips for working drummers told through the vast experiences that Glen has had. I think that we managed to create a fine episode that will serve listeners on a very practical level. Glen’s Socials Instagram Facebook YouTube Website Drumeo Gab’s Socials Instagram Facebook

An in-depth conversation with American session drummer Gregg Bissonette. We talk through his incredible career and how through his timing, talent, luck - and faith - he has played with many of his heroes. He went from being a Maynard Ferguson fan to playing in his band, from wishing he could join Van Halen to playing with David Lee Roth and he's currently the touring drummer for Ringo Starr and his All-Starr Band. It seems like manifest destiny with the young Bissonette taken to see The Beatles at Shea Stadium as an eager drum-devotee. We talk about his time doing sessions with Joe Satriani and subbing for Toto. And his current NZ tour with Rodger Fox's Jazz Gala.

In the mid to late 1980’s, if it was a Tuesday night at the Baked Potato in North Hollywood, it was Los Lobotomys night. The original band, an offshoot of David Garfield’s band Karizma, consisted of some of the best musicians in L.A., included Jeff Porcaro, Lenny Castro, Nathan East, Brandon Fields, Steve Lukather and David Garfield. Lines formed outside the Spud’s door with fans who wanted to experience the band’s instrumental rock, jazz fusion and be-bop. However, the Lobotomys’ door was always open and many guests appears with them throughout the years, including Carlos Vega, Joe Sample, Vinnie Colaiuta, David Sanborn, Gregg Bissonette, Sheila E., Marcus Miller, Larry Carlton, Slash, Pat Travers, David Paich, Bobby Kimball, Alex Acuña, Chad Wackerman and many others. Fast forward to 2018 and the band is still going strong and has reinvented its lineup. With a new album on the way, Los Lobotomys is back as version 3.0 and consists of its founder, David Garfield, along with Lenny Castro on percussion, John Peña on bass, Chad Wackerman on drums and the latest addition, guitarist Doug Bossi. Inside MusiCast is pleased to welcome back our old friend David Garfield and guitarist Doug Bossi.

It's with Gregg Bissonette who might best be known for his work on David Lee Roth's Eat ‘Em & Smile Record, with Steve Vai and Billy Sheehan. But as 3 or 4 people know, I have always preferred the album Skyscraper. I actually have it framed above my desk, so I didn't waste much time in making that almost 30 year old record the topic of this interview. Also, this is my first MINI episode I'm releasing. It's only about 15 minutes long, as I caught Gregg in the hallway of a hotel before he went in to start his drum camp. Apologies that this is the lowest quality episode I've released so far, because it was all recorded on a handheld Zoom recorder with built-in stereo mic passed back and forth between us. There's only so much I could do to improve the quality. Sorry!

“Versatile” is the best descriptor for drummer Gregg Bissonette. A Detroit native, who now resides in L.A., Bissonette’s musical collaborations are nothing less than premier… from Maynard Ferguson to David Lee Roth; Gino Vanelli to Ringo Starr; Brandon Fields to Jeff Lynne. Growing up, he and his brother, Matt, played in his father’s band in Detroit…how’s that for push start to a musical career? This eventually pointed him to college where he refined his talent while studying at the prestigious North Texas State Music School. Soon after, he was chosen by Maynard to play in his infamous Big Band. That in itself is an amazing accomplishment for a young musician. After moving from Dallas to LA, he naturally landed on the “A” list by delivering both quality and consistency in his performing. He’s equally comfortable on the stage as in the studio, and thrives in either environment. You’ll hear his drumming on NBC’s FRIENDS, as well as several motion pictures and other TV shows. Inside MusiCast welcomes a truly great musician, composer and human being, Gregg Bissonette.
