Sydney City Council proudly tells us that bike share schemes have a key role toplay in our future transportation, healthier lifestyle choice and thedecarbonization of Sydney – around 4700 trips are taken daily on share bikes inthe City of Sydney area, saving around 1326 tonnes of carbon emissions eachyear. Really – in short, they've turned the inner city into an untidy environment –spread across pathways in large groups, making pedestrian movementdangerous. Pitt Street is a case in point, bikes scattered usually on their side Isuspect from unhappy pedestrians, many without helmets. Council tell us theydon't manage bike sharing and you should report bikes damaged and parked in adangerous place directly with operators. It's a cop out, it seems nobody ismonitoring bike parking and the Council needs to do more to police their use. I'mDavid BerthonSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Dr. Otis Pickett brings not just a wealth of educational distinction to his role as the historian for Clemson University, but also a wealth of life experience. He grew up in Mount Pleasant spending time with his grandfather, a small-town medical family practitioner on Pitt Street in the Old Village. Many of his grandfather's patients were African-Americans descendants of the Gullah people. "He treated each one of his patients with dignity, honor and respect," Pickett said. "It didn't matter if it was the governor or a poor man who meandered aimlessly up and down Pitt Street." In the mid-1990s Pickett and his mother began attending Trinity Baptist Church and were often the only whites who attended. With the encouragement of Rev. Herman Robinson, Pickett pursued pastoral ministry. He is now a decorated author, historian and religious scholar. He has been known to officiate weddings of former students. In present times, Pickett can be seen at many Clemson sporting events. He returned to his alma mater in 2022 after accepting his dream job as the third Clemson historian in the university's history (and the first Clemson alum to serve in that capacity). Pickett's predecessor, Paul Anderson, now serves as Clemson's Director of Football Academics and Freshman Transition. Anderson joined the football program in 2021 after more than two decades at Clemson as a decorated educator and historian. A significant part of Pickett's mission is introducing and framing the public conversation on Clemson's past, which includes difficult and complicated topics on race. "We've got to interpret it and talk about it," he said. "I get Clemson. I love Clemson, and I don't think there's a bigger Clemson sports fan than I am. I go to everything, and I've been pulling for Clemson since I was 2. "I love Clemson. But I'm also like: 'Hey, there's this history that may be difficult. But it also, I think, makes Clemson more interesting. I want to walk through that history. I want people to understand it.' ... We're simply talking about what people have been talking about for 200 and 300 years, which is this concept of race. And in the South that's a big concept and something that shapes our entire culture. And at Clemson it has shaped our culture in a lot of ways." Pickett previously served in the School of Education at the University of Mississippi preparing Social Studies teachers, the Director of Social Studies Education Programs at Mississippi College, and Associate Professor of History in the Department of History at Mississippi College. Pickett played a role in the state of Mississippi adopting a new state flag that retired the 1894 flag and its Confederate battle emblem. Pickett is also the co-founder and co-director of the Prison to College Pipeline Program, the first program in the state of Mississippi to offer tuition free, credit bearing college courses to incarcerated students. Pickett's grandfather, Robert Alexander Westbrook, graduated in the Class of 1950. His great grandfather, Albert Hayne McMeekin, was in the Class of 1918. Pickett and his wife Julie (Class of 2002) live in Clemson and have three children: Martha Jane, Otis, Jr. and Thomas. He met his future wife on her 21st birthday at the Esso Club.

For the last five years I've lived in an apartment on the Karangahape Ridge, with amazing views across central Auckland.I'm very lucky. If I look North on a good day, I can see Tiritiri Matangi Island and even Hauturu Little Barrier. South is Maungawhau Mt Eden. South West is Eden Park. And dominating my view from the 16th floor is a view right down the guts of K Road. There's always something happening on Karangahape Road. I can see the beautiful people walking their designer dogs or alfresco-ing in the afternoon sun. I can see people driving off in their new vehicles at the Tesla showroom. I can see drunks stumbling about on a Friday night, homeless people chatting to each other, and the clientele at both of the Peaches and Cream stores (It's not who you might expect).I'm also afforded a unique view of the traffic.Over the last five years, Karangahape Road has changed. They've introduced partial bus lanes. They've built bike lanes in both directions. They've restricted parking. And watching on from the 16th floor, the effects on the traffic don't take a PHD to decode. They're obvious.Firstly - and this isn't rocket science!! - buses are far and away the most efficient way to transport a lot of people in the city. When the traffic snarls and slows to a painful crawl, as it often does, I stare down at the cars as they sit there idling. One bus has ten or twelve times the capacity of a single sedan or hatchback. When it can use the K Road bus lane, it immediately overtakes the idling vehicles as they wait. Easy.Secondly, more often than not, the fastest way down K Road is on a bike. I often ride mine along the cycle path and stop at a few places on the way. If there's bad traffic, in the time it takes a crawling car to travel from the Ponsonby Road intersection to Pitt Street, I can dismount my bike to collect a coffee and a heated cinnamon scroll and still beat them there. Happy Days.My third observation from on high, is that parking spaces are an excellent way to shut down an entire lane of traffic. It's crazy. It's so inefficient. K Road has clearways between certain hours, which open up the traffic to two lanes in both directions. When the clearways aren't in place, in order for a handful of cars to park, the entire road has a lane restricted, and the traffic often snarls. At 2am on a Wednesday it's not an issue. But at busier times, it often means cars are bumper to bumper for the length of K Road. It's madness. The convenience of a few is prioritised over the convenience of hundreds or thousands more. Why am I telling you this? It's not because I want to spend my long weekend wading through your hate mail. I know how transport changes get people going. Auckland is proposing changes to onstreet parking to some of its roads and from some of the initial feedback, you'd worry the World was ending. This is something all of cities have to consider, but even though the changes concern about 3.25% of roads in Auckland, they're already facing stern opposition.Smarter lane usage in busy areas is such an obvious, cheap solution to the challenges faced by growing cities in a warmer climate. As our population increases, congestion and productivity and won't improve unless we move people more efficiently.Maybe you can't ride a bike. Maybe you have cargo and the bus is too awkward. Fine. They're not banning cars. They're not banning carpark buildings. You can still drive, find a spot, pay for the time, and walk a few minutes to your destination. The irony of the transport debate is that the loudest critics of bus lanes, cycle paths, and reduced street parking, are those who will actually benefit the most from the changes. If you are absolutely determined to remain glued to your steering wheel for every journey in the coming decades, it's in your interests for councils and transport authorities to reduce congestion. Take it from the view on the 16th floor. Get with the times.
Pre-nuptial agreements are no longer exclusive to the world of the super-elite and attitudes towards them are shifting. Younger couples are ditching traditional ideas about prenups and opting to protect themselves financially.

Businesses around Auckland's famed Karangahape Road are facing yet more financial woe, as City Rail Link construction drags on. Today, the Transport Minister and Auckland city officials lauded the Karangahape Road Enhancements project, which has seen the street tidied up, and cycleways installed. However the pain rolls on for businesses on Pitt Street, which runs into Karangahape Road. Huge barriers have turned the central city street into a noisy, narrow lane, shielding owners from the people who pay their bills. With CRL works delayed by Covid-19, the government may be forced to extend a Business Hardship Programme that's already paid out hundreds of thousands.

In the 1890's, Aron Streit and his wife, Nettie, left Europe and came to America. In 1916, Aron opened his first matzo factory. There, on Pitt Street on the Lower East Side of Manhattan, Aron and his first partner Rabbi Weinberger made all their matzo by hand. In 1925, Aron and one of his sons opened up a modern bakery on Rivington Street. A few years later, Aron's other son joined the business. With the family working together, the Streit matzo bakery prospered and Aron bought three adjoining buildings to handle the growing business. In 2015, after nearly 100 years making matzo on Manhattan's Lower Eastside, Streit's moved to a new and modern bakery in New York. Technology may have changed but Streit's traditions and dedication to quality have not. We want to ensure we will all be able to enjoy the same great-tasting matzo for centuries to come.Family and religious values are not the only things that have remained constant at Streit's. The matzo bakery is still a family business. Today, Aron's granddaughters and great-grandsons run the company. Streit's is the only family-owned and operated matzo company in America. While others have sold out to large corporations, we at Streit's continue our family tradition of bringing you the best matzo and kosher food products for Passover and year-round.Today I am joined by Aaron Gross (Executive Vice President) and Aron Yagoda (Executive Vice President) both direct descendants of the founders of Streit's Matzo. Both Aaron and Aron take us all on a journey on the ins and outs of creating matzo and all the incredible products that Streit's now offers. EnjoyWith Pesach around the corner, Streit's Matzo is showing up supporting the podcast and I greatly appreciate it. Streit's Matzo is America's last family-owned Mazor Bakery. We're talking about that Tarantino movie.
This week's episode of the Urban.com.au podcast comes to you from the Harbour City, where I sat down with Atelier Ten Director Paul Stoller in the company's Sydney office on Pitt Street.
This week Cameron, Chris and Andy all have big news. It turns a bit competitive about who has the biggest news. "Science this" is about teeth brushing. Apparently one of our hosts has a very small mouth. The unwitting sponsor for the week is Officeworks, Pitt Street, Sydney. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/publish-perish-or-podcast/message

In Chinatown bekommst du authentisches, chinesisches Essen.

Und hektisch.„You are the German, right?“ fragen mich viele Hochzeitsgäste.
Shane and Rodney ride around in Sydney CBD. Topics include: scientology, bike movies, The Actor Slap, legs in nature, Pitt Street mall, tank stream, Microsoft, badge cars, bike pump, stock exchange, The Basement, Community, hugs
