If you are involved in leadership at any level and are interested in growing as a leader then you really need to give this episode a listen to. I had the privilege of sitting down with Rev. Bill Morrow who has 76 years of life experience, almost 50 years of church ministry experience and has led at some of the highest levels of church leadership in Canada. Bill is an intentional husband, father, leader, mentor and friend...and amidst all of the leadership, titles and accolades he's manage to remain humble and passionate about God above everything else. This conversation took us in all sorts of various areas including, but not limited to things like the power of affirming those around you, mentoring, what needs to eat at your soul as a church leader. We talked about the power of making space to think and reflect every single day and how if you are married you have one job. Bill also touched on something he referred to as "intimacy deficit" and why it's so important that leaders pay attention to it. Towards the end of our conversation he also shared a couple of his favourite books as well as what he'd change if he could go back and start all over again as a leader. I am going to warn you, this conversation was very much like drinking from a firehose and you may need to listen to this episode in its entirety more than once. I was so honoured to have been able to sit down with Bill and pick his brain on a few of these topics and I am confident you will find this conversation intriguing and inspiring.

This show seems to mark the abandonment of the series rather than its logical close. There were 39 shows in the first season for General Electric but this is only the 36th. The usual ‘discussion’ between Bing and Ken Carpenter, implies that they are summing up all the previous items of this nature but astonishingly, at the close of the program, we hear Bing saying, “I hope to see you all again, next week, when our guest will be Miss Rosemary Clooney” This information is re-iterated by Ken Carpenter in the closing announcements. In fact, it was planned that Gary Crosby would take over with his own show on the following Sunday. The confusion may have been due to Gary Crosby having a motor accident on May 24 near San Jose when a Mexican laborer called Felix Olivares (age 24) was killed. Gary was treated for a lacerated nose and an injured knee. Fortunately Gary had not been drinking but the Mexicans had been. Bing was however the recipient of suits totaling $155,000 as Gary was a minor. No charges were filed though and County officials said neither driver was at fault. Gary’s debut had to be postponed until June 13 and his radio program replaced Bing’s on CBS for the summer period of thirteen weeks before Gary began his third year at Stanford. Guests on Gary’s opening show included Jane Russell and Rhonda Fleming. Ken Carpenter was the announcer, John Scott Trotter furnished the musical support, and Bill Morrow was the writer. Murdo MacKenzie directed the show. In other words, Gary appears to have simply stepped into Bing’s shoes for the summer season.
William Claude Dukenfield (1880-1946), better known as "W.C. Fields," was an American comedian, actor, juggler and writer. He appeared in many plays and movies, always playing a hard-drinking misanthrope. In 1946, shortly before his death on Christmas Day, Fields recorded a spoken-word album, which consisted of 2 tracks: "Temperance Lecture" and "The Day I Drank a Glass of Water." The recording session was arranged by Bill Morrow and was recorded at Les Paul's studio, where Paul had installed a new multi-track recorder. You can hear Paul playing guitar in the background. It was Fields's last performance. The album was originally released on 78, but has been re-released many times, including this 10" record published by Jay Records in about 1950. If you want to buy your bigger competitors, what should you look for? What are the indicators that make it a good business to buy? After all, just because they are a bigger competitor does not necessarily mean they are a good business to buy. There's one person that knows more than most about the indicators of a good business and that's Bill Morrow. City AM described Bill as "the most influential person in alternative finance today." Bill is a business matchmaker. He finds entrepreneurs that want to invest in a business. And he finds business owners that need finance and mentorship to grow. He puts them in a room together for them to decide if they are a good fit for each other. That's why I describe Bill as a business matchmaker. Like all good matchmakers. Bill has tips to help business owners get the funding that they need. What he calls "the 3 things that make a company irresistibly investible." What are these 3 things? And how can you use them as indicators of a good business to buy? That's what you'll learn in this podcast interview with Bill. Also: 3 Things That Make A Company Irresistibly Investible You'll also learn how serial entrepreneur Peter Kiddle finds businesses to buy. Peter set himself an ambitious goal of making £15 million in 3 years without spending any money. How is that possible? You buy companies and turn them around. Peter explains how he sources these lucrative opportunities so you can do the same. Don't talk about religion or politics is the advice you normally get to prevent getting into fights - Bill Morrow and I do both in this episode of the BeneathTheSurface podcast. We explore this question in depth in this episode, well beyond the scope of what you'd normally hear from your average pundit. Bill Morrow is the Undergraduate Chair of the Religious Studies program at Queen's University, Professor of Hebrew Scriptures, teacher of the course Religion and Violence, and one of the smartest men I know.

Bill qualified as an accountant at Virgin, but was a very bad one. He then moved into Investment Banking and was shockingly bad at that as well. “They saw through me in 3 days” He lucked out and sold his business to a Wall Street Bank, retired, and discovered he was bad at that as well. Bill then set up Angels Den in 2007 with some very clever people and appears to have finally found his niche. He has been named the most influential figure in Alternative Funding by City AM and perhaps more importantly 92% of all the businesses funded since that fateful day are still growing with the help of 19,000 angels. AngelsDen.com facilitates over 5000 pitches per year, across 10 countries and there are not many businesses we have not seen pitched badly. Bill started off thinking it was all about the money but slowly began to realise that the value- add the angels bring, is not their money, but their mentorship. Bill and I take a deep and insightful look at what it takes to be successful in today’s ever changing world and what is really takes to inspire youngsters to become successful in business and entrepreneurship.
Bill Morrow talks about Angels. What they do, why they do it, how they invest and what is expected from you in order to attract an investment. What should you do or shouldn't do to raise finance from Angels. Big mistakes Bill has seen in the business and what type of businesses should look for investments. He also talks about his journey so far, and of course, what being disruptive means to him. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

I was 33 when I walked out of my first International Missions Operations Committee meeting when Bill Morrow (name dropper, I know) said to me, "It's good to have a younger guy at our table, you know...someone whose leadership is ascending." After Googling "ascending" to make sure I hadn't just been dissed by the Gen Supe, I wondered why 33 was considered young and why I was still ascending. By that age, many of my risky notions or radical ideas had been deflated by the reality of everyday life, practical planning, and common sense. In a brand new road trip edition of the Here & There Podcast, I had the chance to ask 12 truly young (late teens/early twenties) and ascending leaders from Master's College & Seminary what they thought about the future of global work. It might be time to invite a few of them to our tables.

Jack Benny - Benny was remarkable in many ways, but in none more than this: he built a character of every sour ingredient in life, but somehow his real personality trickled through and made it wonderful. Would a real miser act that way before 30 million people each week? The Benny of the air was a fraud, a myth, a creation. It should have surprised no one to learn — after years of toupee jokes that played so well into the vanity theme — that Benny never wore one. He overtipped in restaurants, gave away his time in countless benefit performances, and was lavish in his praise of almost everyone else.THIS EPISODE:December 12, 1937. Red network.
