This week on WIBcast, Molly Mahon joins me to talk about our summers as interns in New York City for part 2 of the WIBcast is Back series. Molly is a senior at Boston College and on the Women in Business Board, but calls Chicago home. We talk about why we wanted to intern in New York and how to navigate finding roommates / living with new people. Molly took on a "just do it attitude" that extended into all parts of her city summer. The majority of the episode echos this theme as we share tips from our time as interns that focus on networking, professionalism, learning, and receiving feedback. All of those skills are things that we have had some experience with as students, but found new insight on in a work environment. We reflect on all that we learned about ourselves from communication styles to finding balance and how we have brought that back to campus as seniors. And any discussion about New York would not be complete without some dialogue on all there is to do! We talk about what we did on the weekends, from meeting up with friends to exploring new neighborhoods. When there is always something going on, the toughest decision you have to make is whether you will get to your destination by subway, Blue Bike, or on foot. We also talk about our thoughts on safety and making such a big city feel like home. Molly and I are happy to be resources for anyone considering an internship in New York. Questions are always welcome through @WIBCast on Instagram.

The plan also includes more than 100 new Blue Bike stations for bicycle sharing. Wu says the city has set a goal that ensures 50% of residents in Boston will be a 3-minute walk away from a connected bike route. Dan heard listeners' thoughts on the expansion.

Meredith and Kaytee are back in your earbuds and speakers. And we’re feeling a little feisty this week (we know.. that’s your favorite)! You’ll hear a “bookish moment of the week” from each of us: an explanation for the extreme busy-ness around here, and a Patron-related milestone! Next, we discuss our current reads for the week. Meredith and Kaytee are back from their short break between seasons to bring your more of the bookish goodness you’ve come to love. As well as some new fun stuff! First and foremost, we’ve got a new Bookshelf Thomasville coupon code for you: CURRENTLYLOVING will get you 10% off from our friends over there through the month of August! Enjoy, and be looking for a fantastic giveaway from them for our listeners this month as well. We’re also shouting out the first three women who couldn’t wait for us to officially roll out our Patreon account before they went and became our Bookish Friends! Thanks, ladies! You’ll hear a “bookish moment of the week” from each host: big kids cracking each other up while reading together, and giving book recommendations to a friend! Next, we discuss our current reads for the week. We’ve both got a large docket of titles to choose from after our break, so we had a hard time narrowing it down! You’ll notice a short new segment: Slow but Steady. Be sure to look for a post this weekend in which we ask you to chime in with your own Slow But Steady reads! If you’ve been looking at a book on your shelves for a long time, but you don’t want to commit to it as your “main” read, this is going to be JUST the segment for you. Let us know what you think! For our deep dive, we are reflecting on what our break was like for both of us. Was our reading different? What did we do to keep ourselves busy? Are we glad we took a break? Listen in for the answers! This week, we finish up with our first Belly Up to the Book Bar request from Sara Kilpatrick. Sara sent us a great list of titles, some of which pressed us out of our comfort zones. We can’t wait to hear what you think of our suggestions, or if you have more to add to Sara’s TBR pile! Connie Gabbert is a book cover designer, and you may have heard me talk about her before—this is because she’s not only a personal friend of mine, but she also designed the covers of my last two books, At Home in the World and Notes From a Blue Bike (and I’m so impressed with her work that if I have it my way, I’m going to ask for her to design all my book covers for the rest of my career). Connie is supremely talented, her portfolio keeps growing with new and brilliant takes on book cover design, and she never ceases to surprise me. Tsh Oxenreider (yep, that's how you spell it) is the author of Notes from a Blue Bike, Organized Simplicity, and At Home in the Word: Reflections on Belonging While Wandering the Globe. She's also the founder of the community blog The Art of Simple, and she hosts the top ranked podcast The Simple Show. Tsh and her husband Kyle and their three kids sold their house, put their furniture in storage, and spent nine months traveling the globe. They went to China, Singapore, Australia, Uganda, France, Croatia, and beyond, "world-schooling" their kids (look it up, it's a thing) and experiencing wanderlust and contentment. I loved catching up with Tsh, and I think you'll be inspired by her story of adventure alongside ordinariness.
