ANDDD up this week on The TODAY Podcast... Cassie Pitts joined me as a guest. Each week I am so thankful for the great conversations featuring women in business here on the pod. I hope that you all are valuing these conversations full of wisdom and knowledge; taking it and then applying it to the different areas of your life. Cassie has grown up in a family of entrepreneurs and so of course she has now stepped into that realm. We chatted about her jewelry making business that she once had but her now painting business. She has such a unique style of painting and so make sure to check out her art that is linked through her website below. She in life, is Chasing Slow and so we were able to connect on that level as I too (even though it may not look like it all the time) desire a slower paced/ back to the basics life. Right now, the average amount of time that kids are spending outside is four to seven minutes. But the data shows that the amount of time they should be spending outside for their brain development, for their growth, for critical thinking skills, for leadership should be four to seven hours. And the average amount of time that kids today are spending on devices is four to seven hours. We have it completely backwards and if you're an entrepreneur who is raising kids, this is an episode you have to hear. This is one of my all time favorite interviews on this show. My guest today is a good friend of mine, Ginny Yurich. Ginny is the Founder of 1000 Hours Outside and the entire premise of Ginny's movement, and her company is really propelling kids to get outside and experience all the beauty that nature has to offer and the benefits that it has on their growth and their leadership. In today's conversation, we go over the birth of this movement and how it came to be so organically for Ginny and how the pain in her life as a mother really propelled her into where she was being led. Ginny also gives strategic, tactical steps on how you can do this too and explains the way she brought her kids into the business and the benefits of entrepreneurship for her family. So there's practical wisdom in today's episode, not to mention the fact that she's just a wealth of knowledge around so many different things. Can't wait for you to hear this one! When was the last time you did something for yourself? With so many things on our checklist each day, many of us are guilty of getting lost in the day-to-day activities and stresses of the external world. We neglect the most important thing: connecting with ourselves. But here's the truth. Connection heals our wounds, awakens our souls, and invites us into our most authentic, courageous, and honest selves. In this episode, my guest, Karen Hardwick, executive leadership coach shares her powerful practices to stay connected to your feelings, sense of self, and journey. So you can be connected to others both at home, and as a leader. Erin Loechner, author of Chasing Slow, founder of Design for Mankind as well as Other Goose, takes us on a journey through her own life and discusses how truly difficult it can be to slow down. There is a lot of fear surrounding doing less. Maybe we will be left behind or thought less of? Maybe we will pass up a really good opportunity? In this episode we talk parenting, imperfection, and surrender. We talk about Erin's husband's brain tumor and how they manage that as a family. We talk about choosing to run a different race, heading toward a different type of finish line than the majority of those around us... and then being okay to lose that race. Simple does not necessarily mean easy. But simple is still worth pursuing. Do you change you who you are based on who you're with? Though this is a common human behavior, the real question is, why do we do it? Is it because we are afraid that if people find out who we really are, they will not want to be around us? In today's episode, we look at how we edit our own souls, and how that habits actually creates opportunity for some incredible divine moments. Hello and welcome back to the campfire! Today we have Erin Loechner joining us. Erin is a bestselling author, founder of Other Goose, and homeschooling mom of 3. After traveling the world and searching for an all-inclusive classroom that valued play, freedom, and structure, Erin discovered the solution in her own backyard: homeschooling. But when the time came to choose an educational plan for her kids under the age of 7, the search wasn't so simple. Where was the methodology that valued all philosophies of learning? Where was the boxed curriculum that didn't box out the parent? Where was the simple homeschooling strategy that held space for open-ended discovery?Other Goose was born from these questions. Together with a team of thought-leaders, childhood development experts, research scholars, and environmentalists, Erin welcomes all learners. So grab a seat by the fire as we travel to the Midwest to discuss simple and fun homeschooling for the early years!Quick reminder. With Fall approaching and the leaves changing, we are excited to announce the release of our Free Ultimate Family Camping/Outdoor Checklist! Nathan and I have been camping for years with and without kids. So we put together this checklist in hopes to help other families wanting to get out and camp more. When you slow down you see and appreciate the beauty that you never saw before. When you live with intention you actively choose what is important to you and drop the rest. When you simplify you create space for meaning and purpose to unfold. By slowing down and choosing to live more intentionally and simply you dispose of negative energy, and instead draw in positive energy. Not only will this shift make you feel light within, you become more able to live your life with ease. Also, by de-cluttering your entire life you also enhance your manifestation power by creating the space within to attract abundance. Clearing out the clutter in your mind as well as physically decluttering your home, inbox and anything else that may be taking up space in your energetic field will bring you more mind-body wellness and is also a great way to clear the path for miracles to materialise. Thank you for joining me for week 8 of the Everyday Miracles Course. Today we will be dipping into slow, intentional and simple living. In her book, Chasing Slow, Erin Loechner describes how sometimes, in our search for more, we add things to our lives. We buy more things, add more tasks, take on more. However, often, what we need is actually less. In this episode, she shares with us her insights on living with the lion inside of us, the one who always is whispering to us that we must do more, have more, BE more. What do we do with this voice when we are different phases of life? Some phases require more stillness, and others have space for more goal reaching, and there is beauty in all of these phases. This embracing of each phase of life that Erin embodies led her to search for and then create, along with child development professionals and educators, a beautiful homeschool curriculum called Other Goose. It is built on these three pillars of education: connection through nature, community through stories, creativity through play. It offers flexibility to parents of younger children and is a wonderful resource for any of you out there who are considering homeschooling this year. Erin Loechner has been an online educator, homeschool advocate, and author for over 10 years. Her all-in-one homeschooling plan for the early years, Other Goose, has been used by over 25,000 students worldwide, and includes daily literature, creativity, foundations, outdoors, relationships, language, math, rhythms, logic, and habit lessons for kids ages 2-7. Are you in the pursuit of more...more time, more meaningful relationships, more space and margin, more adventure? Often times in order to receive the "more" that we're desperately looking for, we need to give up something in return. In today's episode I sit down with friend and business owner Amy McCasland as she shares her family's story about giving up having it all in order to live fully as the family they were created to be. As Amy shares, she challenges us to not live in a "someday world." Her tips include: writing and recording what you're sensing and feeling consider what you're willing to give up to make the changes confide in a friend who can cheer you on make a list of action steps to move the needle forward experiment along the way Some of the resources she recommends are: Chasing Slow by Erin Loechner The More of Less by Joshua Becker Present Over Perfect by Shauna Niequist Make it Happen by Lara Casey The Cozy Minimalist Home by Myquillyn Smith You can find Amy at abideink.com or on Facebook, Instagram and Pinterest @abideinkco

In today’s episode I am talking about needing this newer version of myself. The one that is taking the time and making “slowing down” a reality. Overwhelm and depression are not my thing, so these days I am learning how to chase slow. You may remember my friend Ali from Episode 17. Recently she has been sharing pieces of a book called Chasing Slow with me. Let me tell you these excerpts are really hitting home. As you know, I have been on maternity leave so there is not much time for me to read so I really appreciate these pieces I have seen thus far and cannot wait to dive into the book in its entirety. Have you recently tried to slow down? Have you read Chasing Slow, the book mentioned in the show? Tag me on Facebook and Instagram @ownyourprettynow so we can continue this conversation. I would love to hear your thoughts. For more info on the Own Your Pretty Now Brand and Podcast visit ownyourprettynow.com. After listening to today’s show, I would love to hear your feedback. Today I'm talking about a topic I'm super passionate about- living slower. I talk a bit about the reasons for slowing down, and encourage you to think about your life and your schedule, what it looks like vs. what you'd like it to look like. I also encourage you to say no, to find margin for rest in your days, and to take control of your days by slowing them down. I believe this message can be for anyone- whether you're single or a mama of 7. We can all find a way to slow down, it's just a little counter cultural to do so. In this episode, I suggest a book to you, so here's the link to the book: Chasing Slow by Erin Loechner. Other links: How to leave a review on iTunes The Podcast Instagram Podcast Website

Do you remember hearing the sound of the ice cream truck when you were young? That sound was so exciting. Of course, now as an adult the best sound ever is that of the delivery truck. Am I right? Well, in this first episode of Diary of a Doer, I share a story about a very special delivery I received one night; a 17-month old foster child. Yes, that’s right, a child. Today, I want to share with you my journey of how her entrance into my life changed my outlook about everything, dramatically. I’ll start by telling you that I am wired to go all in; much to my detriment. And, for the longest time I was on the trajectory to become CEO of an anesthesia group. Then, I decided, “Nah, I want to be like the Play-Doh moms.” I wanted to be at home with my foster child and other children. So, I began working part-time. But yet, Mom was only part of the definition of who I am. I knew God meant for me to be much more. I realized, I wanted to teach other moms there was more than Play-Doh, too. I share how I went from almost-CEO to the owner of Priority VA; a company that allowed me to be mom, business owner and help other moms be at home with their children, too. But, this new business also forced me to go into overdrive and become self-destructive in many ways. I stopped doing many of the things that I loved. I was becoming distant from my children. And, I was angry at it all. I was crashing HARD. In 2017, I knew I had to create a new trajectory for my life. I attended a mastermind event where I had an eye-opening conversation. It made me recognize I was chasing ambition, prominence, and status. It led me to having an epiphany of sorts, I realized I should be chasing slow. Yes, slow. Listen to this episode to hear how I went from chasing the “fast and the furious” to chasing slow, instead. In this episode, you’ll also hear about: The call that changed my life forever Quitting the “CEO” lifestyle My “I have 3 days to live” list How pushing myself so hard led me to contemplating suicide Slowing down and making time And, my full circle moment

As Season 3 comes to a close, and Fall is just around the corner, I'm finding that I'm ready to slow down. Our summer was purposefully jam packed: We visited England, we went on a family trip to San Diego, and I traveled to Atlanta for a conference. It was fun, it was exciting, and it was exhausting. As the seasons change, I'm longing for a slower pace and an I'm finding myself tired of the busy-ness. In this week's episode, I'm looking back at the first episode of Season 3, which was all about the steps to slowing down and savoring joy. Are you feeling the same way? With returning to school, and winding down from summer, do you feel the shift in perspective? Somewhere in the midst of traveling, creating, connecting, loving, and following my heart, I think I got wrapped up in the busy-ness and distraction of other stuff, too. Promoting the show. Finding the perfect stock image and the quote to go with it. Staying up too late as I danced with perfectionism. Joy was getting intertangled with shoulds and being perfect and it got heavy. What I needed to do was re-set my perspective. Have you read the book, "Chasing Slow," by Erin Loechner? She says “It takes work to change your perspective. Work that is not easily done when you’re looking everywhere else.” In the midst of sitting with a slower pace, and getting re-acquainted with joy, I found that these six steps are a great foundation for slowing down and saving joy: 1. Agree to slow down. Give yourself space. 2. Take a good hard look at the thing that is no longer bringing you the joy it once did, and take note of why. 3. Reflect on what about this thing used to bring you joy. Write it down. 4. Ask yourself what would make this thing joyful again? 5. If a break from the thing sounds good, take it, and let it be a true break. Notice what you miss about the thing if anything. 6. Check back in after a month or so and see if you want to return to doing the thing. If so, make your plan. If not, let it go. Today I'm speaking with the extraordinary Erin Loechner. In addition to be a popular blogger, she most recently wrote her first book, "Chasing Slow," which I devoured! It was soo, soo good and really spoke to the heart of someone who is trying desperately to live out their values. Our conversation covers everything about how she felt once her blog was getting big and she was living the good life in LA, to moving back to the midwest, and how she felt becoming a mom. If anyone has ever felt like they aren't sure if they are cut out to be a mom, Erin feels your pain. She honestly shares how she has come to a place of peace and values-based living, where she prioritizes motherhood, while also pursuing her passions. This interview is one of my very favorites that I've done. Enjoy! Today’s interview is with Erin Loechner. Erin has been blogging and speaking for more than a decade on her website Design for Mankind and she’s now released an incredible book called Chasing Slow. Now nestled in a Midwestern town, Erin, her husband, and their toddler strive for less in most areas except three: joy, grace, and goat cheese. Erin is one of the friendliest, most open people I’ve ever spoken to and I loved chatting with her about minimalism, slowing down our lives, finding our golden hours in order to be more creative, and what she learned about herself from writing her new book.
By 2012, blogger and author Erin Loechner could boast a massively successful blog, an HGTV special, a beautiful home, and even a beautiful new baby. But amid all that success, Erin found herself feeling lost and unfulfilled. In this week’s bonus interview podcast episode, Erin describes her journey toward a slower way of life (and explains how even “slow” living can The post Chasing Slow with Erin Loechner: Voices 09 appeared first on The Mom Hour.
Erin Loechner joins me for Episode 61. She is a writer, stylist and mom, living in the mid-west. She blogs at design for mankind and the heart of her is encouraging women to stop trying to define and label everything and just enjoy the life that we are actually given. And with that, we talk about failure, parenting and the art of letting go. We weave the conversation around her new book Chasing Slow with a common thread of finding freedom, beauty and yourself in the middle of the chase. Chatting with her truly felt like sitting with a girlfriend that you've known for a long time. Her kindness and authenticity makes her so relatable. I will give you many takeaways from our conversation over at SurvivingSarah.com but the one I want to mention here is really the bottom-line message about learning to embrace who you are--all of you. The parts that are smooth and the parts that are rough around the edges. That is a step in learning to love you and finding contentment where you are. We need to learn to embrace our own hypocrisies and stop trying to soften our edges. Small admissions, no excuses, can bring freedom. Its just about being you--not your better self, but just you. Designer and now author, Erin Loechner, is up these days (or we should say nights) with a baby. A baby she went to retrieve from the hospital as soon as she received a phone call. That seems to be how Erin's life works. From starting a website to a show on HGTV.com, Erin and her husband follow adventure. Or adventure follows them. From the midwest, to Hollywood, back to the midwest, Erin's journey has often been fast and furious. But her new book Chasing Slow is about just that, deciding to live life at a slower pace one intentional decision at a time. Her popular site DesignForMankind.com has reflected that life change. Starting as a holding place for design ideas, the site now peeks into Erin's family life and newfound pace. Join us as we hear Erin's story and how she is embracing her total parts these days. We cover her whirlwind adoption story, how she found herself in Hollywood and why detours work for her. We know you will find a kindred spirit in this creative mama who jumps right into work and love. We found her to be simply delightful.
These days it’s not easy to go slow. Or if you want to go slow, it often feels as if you’re going against the tide. In Episode 67, Christine and Asha interview Erin Loechner, founder of Design for Mankind, co-host of The Simple Show podcast, and author of Chasing Slow. We discuss the individual nature and complexities of how to get to your slow, decoupling self-esteem and happiness from perfection and control, how surrender is an essential part of parenting, reconciling loving beauty and stuff with wanting to simplify, and the challenges of chasing slow in the age of social media. + + + + + Christine Koh and Asha Dornfest are the co-authors of MINIMALIST PARENTING and the award-winning bloggers behind BostonMamas.com (CK) and ParentHacks.com (AD). Erin Loechner knows firsthand how the hunger for more can stalk us. She’s familiar with the demands of what is akin to the hustle. How do we unplug when our balance is off? What will an unexamined life of ours be worth or feel like if we just get on the conveyor belt of life and don’t bother to question what we’re doing or where we’re going? If we pay attention, our bodies and our minds will speak to us. We’ll feel something is off and we will get hints we may want to pay attention to. But, how do we listen to the messages we’re being given when we have all of these responsibilities and tasks to accomplish? Erin began listening as many of us do when things begin to fall apart. In her new and aesthetically beautiful book Chasing Slow Erin Loechner describes her journey towards what I call her inner ahhhh...the kind you can sometimes find on a massage table...or even a really good cup of espresso...where she learns to choose to savor the life she’s been given rather than hanging on by a thread. So, let me give you a heads up...before you checkout and think there’s no way you’ll ever be able to leave it all behind for a life on the homestead-- let alone create space in your life to pause and reflect, I urge you to reconsider. Erin is here to remind us that chasing slow has nothing to do with learning to cook organic food or living off the grid. Instead, it’s more about pursuing balance first and foremost, and making sure that we have room in our schedules for what’s most important to us.

Before age 30, Erin Loechner built a fan base of one million women worldwide and earned the title “The Nicest Girl Online” as she was praised for her authentic voice and effortless style. Though she received applause from The New York Times, friends and family, she was still left wanting more. In her upcoming book Chasing Slow: Courage to Journey Off the Beaten Path (Zondervan, January 10, 2017), Loechner shares her journey away from fast, fame and frenzy to a new-fashioned lifestyle of less. Less want, more contentment. Less busy, more rest. Less pressure, more happiness. Less striving, more acceptance. Less fast, more slow.
Jessie Artigue and Erin Loechner chat about everything from murphy beds to brain tumors. In this episode you'll hear about... Meaningful surprises. Whether it's a bad first impression or a day-to-day squeeze in the middle of the kitchen. We've both learned that not all initial reactions are accurate, but being open to where life might take you can lead to some incredible gifts. Honor + respect. Recognizing your partner's priorities and taking care not to tarnish their pride. Being a good student to learn more about what makes them tick and then actually trying not to push their buttons. Frustration during a fight. How to keep your temper from getting the best of you while the shit hits the fan. Alternatively, saying “I don't care” just to end an argument is nearly just as bad. The fragility of life. Acknowledging that everything on earth is temporary to some extent, but we should not let this control our lives or our love for one another. “The only real way to honor this life together is to not let the weight of it cripple you during the difficult moments.” Forsaking date night. This is not as dangerous as it sounds! If it doesn't feel like a big deal to you or your partner, it's better to avoid the “should” and do what's best for you. Keeping an open mind when it comes to committing to continual love no matter who your partner evolves into as you grow together. (Hear Jessie + Gerard talk more about the “growing together” metaphor right here.) “You have to really overcome that deep rooted belief that we're not enough and decide that the other person loves you just the way that you are.” To Erin, Great Love means taking care of yourselves as a unit, serving each other from a place of gratitude, and offering up the grace that comes from giving each other the benefit of the doubt.
