Matt and Dean spent some time in Rome last week and this week we're reflecting on our trip to the Church of the Immaculate Conception of the Capuchins, a church with a crypt full of the skeletons of 3,000+ Capuchin monks in it. In the episode we reflect on the bones, death, Jean Bone-drillard, how weird tourism is, and what's going on in the gift shop. Sedlec Ossuary - This Gothic church stands in Sedlec near the picturesque Czech Republic city of Kutna Hora. The church may look pretty ordinary from the outside but make your way down into the basement and you will discover the bones of thousands of humans that were bleached then ornately carved, and now artfully cover everything in sight. You may have noticed a distinct lack of social media stuff and episodes being put out in the last few months. I got quite sick during almost the whole of March and into May after working hard professionally as well as on the High Frequency EP and the shows to support its release. I'd like to thank Ant and Corky for coming on the last episode to talk about the history of our band and the recording of our new EP ‘Some Songs You May Have Heard… But Not Like This!' which I hope you've listened to and enjoyed. I'd also like to thank the handful of listeners who checked in on me while I was away, I really appreciate it. I'm OK now and looking forward to getting back to work on the podcast. On this episode I cover the news from the last four months which concerns The Sisters of Mercy, The Mad Caddies, Moby, U.K. Subs, Yellowcard, Peter Murphy of Bauhaus, Danzig, Weezer, BGH, Blink-182, Less Than Jake, The Cure, Amyl And The Sniffers, Bad Cop/Bad Cop, Circle Jerks, Public Image Limited, vinyl sales, The Misfits, Devo, Doom Generator, Descendents, Adolescents, Dead Kennedys, Lektron, Flogging Molly, X, Siouxie Sioux, Crass, Alice Cooper, Social Distortion, Laura Jane Grace, The Rock n Roll Hall Of Fame, The Distillers, Sum 41, Rancid, The Hives, Dropkick Murphys, Stiff Little Fingers and Steve Jones, The Toy Dolls, Foo Fighters, Bowling For Soup, Lagwagon. Single reviews include Bone Church by Slipknot, Over by Chvrches, 'Til The Anarchy's Restored by Flogging Molly, Raid by Doom Generator, Set Fazers, If I Could and L.O.V.E. Have you ever seen a death metal album, seen all the skulls and bones, it's got a name like Bone Church or Skull Chair or something like that? Well then, you've probably than seen this location, or something inspired by it. The Sedlec Ossuary is a place with more than 40,000 humans worth of bones that are made into various chandeliers, decorations, and even a coat of arms. The Treacherous Trio dive into the Czech Republic to talk all about this bone building (another great album name) and discuss just how this came to be. Lisa tells us all about how this type of macabre way of "burying" people is not as uncommon as we would have thought. Jake has a scary story that results in a femur being broken. And Davis brings apparitions into the holiday spirits. All this and oh so much more in this very Eastern Europe adventure for The Possibly Paranormal Podcast. Make sure you answer what piece of furniture you would want to become once your time is done. This is TPPP 80: Sedlec Ossuary, Czech Republic.Support the show

Jake's Lightning round ! Listen as he weaves the Rome “bone church” ( La Cripta Dei Frata Capuccini) with Gilligans Island!
Welcome to the landmark 12th season of The Seeking Human Victims podcast. This is a "Spin off" season, going back to our wildly popular "Universal Monsters" season where the modern movie monster template was created and will be an annual feature here on the show. Last year we looked at the children of "Creature From The Black Lagoon" with Season 7 - Aquatic Horror Beach Party, but now things are getting hairy! It's WOLFAMANIA brother, and the first begotten son of Lon Chaney Jr is the Werewolf craze of 1981 as we revisit the "Piranha" team of director Joe Dante and writer John Sayles for what is still regarded as one of if not the best werewolf films of all time....1981's THE HOWLING!Plus we're always bringing the spooky jams....our musical guest this week all the way from Sweden are death metal ass-kickers RIBSPREADER with their track "The Bone Church" off the new comp "Death Metal Power From Beyond" out now from Horror Pain Gore Death Productions. (Ribspreader appears courtesy horrorpaingoredeath.com )
I've always used music to juice myself creatively. I can't imagine writing a work of fiction without using music as an inspiration, and even go so far as to actually build soundtracks for every story in my catalogue. That's why on this week's Cold, we're talking music and its often crucial, magical connection to the construction of a story. I use a variety of music genres to inspire my work, and the genre of music depends on the nature of the story I'm writing, but I defininetly play favorites when it comes to pairing songs and music styles with fictional universes. In this episode I focus specifically about how and why I use the Blues to animate my Cold War Historical Fiction, as well as almost any scene, regardless of the genre, that has an element of grit and heartache. For those interested in my Cold War fiction, links to Books 1 and 2 of The Cold War Chronicles follow. In honor of the coming 4th of July Holiday here in America, we're going to take some time here on Cold to celebrate independence, free thought, and free living. We'll do it through the lenses of both fiction and non-fiction, and talk about my own personal stories of Cold War adventure that include my family's dangerous exploits and my life and travels in post-communist Eastern and Central Europe. Fun, heartbreaking, and darkly comic stories that will stay with you throughout the day, and give you something to think about while you're watching the fireworks this coming weekend. And if you just can't get enough of the topic - and who can? - please visit my friend Mark Bakers travel blog on Central Europe at https://markbakerprague.com/ Mark makes his home in Prague and has been in the region a long time, critter-crawling through little-known towns, haunting eccentric-looking cafes, taking gorgeous pictures, and writing for publications like Lonely Planet. He has such an artistic eye and knows a great story – the kind you'll rarely find in mainstream publications. As for the fiction part, if you're in the mood for some Cold War fiction full of atmosphere, eccentric characters, danger, passion, and soul, please check out books 1 and 2 of The Cold War Chronicles, The Bone Church and The Hungarian. I've started writing book three and it's a wild ride! Last time in the Cold, we talked about where we write and how the places where we compose our stories help us create worlds that a reader can experience with all of their senses. How our various talismans - photos, artifacts, books, furniture - discipline and inspire us. Today, we're looking at place a little bit differently. We're pondering the places we write about and how they can serve as the anchors of our stories. And I tell you about a very specific place that inspired me to write my first novel. It's a sacred place of mystery, love, and even horror. It's called The Bone Church, and once you hear about it, you'll be dying to go there. In this episode, we talk about fiction, and worldbuilding. We first focus on how to create compelling characters, and we refer to the Game of Thrones series finale as a bad example of it. We also explore the psychology of failed expectations. We then get into how people want meaning from fiction, and how tragedies like war might provide that. We also discuss popular genres and why they are so successful, and how politics and morality might ruin good literature. We finish by talking about how fiction can work as a thought-experiment, and how it is not so detached from things humans develop through culture. -- Follow Victoria's work: Website: http://bit.ly/2HoiQ0f COLD (blog): http://bit.ly/2ZnyeUU YouTube channel/vlog: http://bit.ly/2HkHoYc Books on Amazon: https://amzn.to/2PrstSz Twitter handle: @vicdougherty Support Victoria on Patreon! : http://bit.ly/31VXqj1 -- A HUGE THANK YOU TO MY PATRONS: KARIN LIETZCKE, ANN BLANCHETTE, SCIMED, PER HELGE HAAKSTD LARSEN, LAU GUERREIRO, RUI BELEZA, ANTÓNIO CUNHA, CHANTEL GELINAS, JERRY MULLER, FRANCIS FORDE, HANS FREDRIK SUNDE, BRIAN RIVERA, ADRIANO ANDRADE, YEVHEN BODRENKO, SERGIU CODREANU, ADAM BJERRE, ŁUKASZ STAFINIAK, AIRES ALMEIDA, BERNARDO SEIXAS, HERBERT GINTIS, RUTGER VOS, RICARDO VLADIMIRO, BO WINEGARD, JOHN CONNORS, ADAM KESSEL, VEGA GIDEY, AND CRAIG HEALY!
