I'm a self-confessed sentimental, nostalgic type of person and over the years have loved to sit down with the Waltons, Little House on the Prairie, Gilligan's Island and The Brady Bunch, to name a few, and today's episode is actually inspired by a Waltons episode! The episode has a pivotal message of following your heart and encouraging us to figure out what we want by simply stepping forward. I expand on this concept in this episode with further thoughts involving: The John Barrymore quote A man is not old, until regrets take the place of dreams. How this quote is relevant even 100 years later and how generations benefit from these words and experiences, especially in their third half of life. Coming back to recurring themes in our lives, paths and signs that resurface, something that you are passionate about and is difficult to get out of your mind. Sentimental and nostalgic moments through memories with the box. How they can evoke further thoughts and memories and my reflections with these moments. We're talkin' that Gilligan's Isle Thing today! “Isle Thing” is from 1989's UHF soundtrack, and it's quite low on our list. But maybe it's more clever than we think? We talk through it and come to some interesting conclusions. We've got tangents about dogs barking at random things (Billie Eilish among them), there's another parody of “Wild Thing” out there, goats and fireworks, Jesus Christ Superstar ruined Lauren's pantyhose, some UHF soundtrack chat, makin' bacon, it's technically ballet, we reminisce in advance of our three year anniversary, and so much more! Lauren has Floridian from Funky Buddha Brewery and Perpetual IPA from Troegs Independent Brewing. John has SeaQuench Ale from Dogfish Head Craft Brewery and Heavy C's from Crooked Hammock Brewery. Cheers!Beer'd Al is a funky member of the OddPods Media Network. Our promo this week is for the ever-so-infectious Infectious Groove Podcast.

Cevin Soling's credits include: “The Gilligan Manifesto,” “The War on Kids,” which was honored as the best educational documentary at the New York Independent Film and Video Festival and was broadcast on Pivot, The Documentary Channel, and The Sundance Channel. “A Hole in the Head,” which documented the potential benefits of boring a hole in one's skull, aired on The Learning Channel. “Ikland” documented Soling's efforts to rediscover the lost Ik tribe of northern Uganda, who were famously disparaged in the early 1970s as the worst people in the world. The NY Times and other major media outlets heralded the film. Among his animation works is “Boris the Dog,” which premiered on MTV. Soling is currently working on “The Summer of Hate,” a documentary on the Beatles' controversial observations on religion and racism during their 1966 tour of America.Soling has written a series of nine illustrated books under the heading of “The Rumpleville Chronicles.” Prominent publishing industry reviewer ForeWord Magazine described the books as such: “These quick bursts of cracked brilliance, these splintered bedtime stories for grown folks, have the power to make readers laugh, and then think, then scoff at the futility of thinking.”One of the books "Tiffany Brittany Brooke" has been made into an animated short film. Soling wrote, directed, and produced the 15-minute film. Yuri Lowenthal and Tara Platt, whose voices are featured in Marvel's “Spiderman” video game, provided voice talent. Borrero designed the artwork, and Paul Essenhigh created the animation. Tan Chong Yew composed the film's score.https://watch.reelwomensnetwork.com/products/the-gilligan-manifestoThe Douglas Coleman Show now offers audio and video promotional packages for music artists as well as video promotional packages for authors. Here's why you're exhausted, burnt out or sick at this point in time and history? Here is why you can't tolerate tasks and people like you used to. Here's why God loves heros and villains equally and what happens when you don't love the hero and villain within you. But whose kidding who? It's all about RGF bonus content where the real questions get answered. How does the pilot episode of 'God Save the Kweenz' end? Why does @sonyadevillewwe replace @thekelseymeyer in the series? What consolation news does @poojanayyarr have for Kels? Who remembers the Saturday a.m. series Run Joe Run and what did it REALLY mean to the castaways when they were rescued from #GilligansIsland. Bye Betches ! #LeechFarming #krisp #kweenz
The Girls do a deep dive off Gilligan's Island, with special guest and Gilligan Expert, Robbie-Ann's childhood bestie Karen. Karen talks about her all-things Tiki obsession, which evolved into a Gilligan's Island obsession. Robbie-Ann asks, and Karen answers, the tough questions: how did they get years out of that radio battery? Why didn't they build a boat? Where did they get all those wardrobe changes from just a three-hour tour (a threeee hour tour...)? Amy talks about her after-school joy watching Gilligan's Island, and her love for the vibrant colors on the show. Karen and Robbie-Ann reminisce about getting off the kindergarten bus at Karen's house and spending the afternoon on the Island. Amy reveals the shocking world tragedy event that occurred on the day the cast were filming the pilot episode, and how you can see a reference to it in the original opening sequence. Amy goes on to describe Sherwood Schwartz' origins of the show, as something of a political statement. Shocker: when Schwartz first conceived the series, the seven characters originally represented the Seven Deadly Sins. Can you identify who was which? The Girls discuss. Karen reveals her favorite episode, featuring the fictional Beatle-esque band the Mosquitos. The Girls dissect the Honey Bees' (Ginger, Mary Ann and Mrs. Howell) song "You Need Us." Naturally this leads to discussing the iconic tv Gilligan's Island theme song, and Karen reveals a crazy fact about the Wellingtons, who sang it. Amy reveals that the original pilot's Calypso theme song was co-written by none other than Star Wars, Jaws, Indiana Jones and E.T. composer John Williams. BUT - then Amy also reveals what Christmas classic was written by George Wyle, who co-wrote the historic "Just sit right back..." theme song that ended up in the show. Amy reports the five basic plot lines that covered almost all of the episodes. Gilligan's opera-radio reception in his teeth. The Dream Sequence episodes. Trivia: The Skipper's real name. The Professor's real name. Mrs. Howell's maiden name. Which cast member was the only one allowed by Sherwood Schwartz to improvise? The 1978 "Rescue from Gilligan's Island" tv movie. Casting Could-have-beens: could Jane Mansfield have been Ginger? Tina Louise, "method actor." The old Ginger vs. Mary Ann debate. Gilligan's first name: a controversy. Raquel Welch or Pat Priest as Mary Ann? Carol O'Connor as the Skipper? Dabney Coleman as The Professor? Dawn Wells, Natalie Schafer and their "Ice Cream Diet." Which Gilligan's Island stars ended up on Sherwood Schwartz' next sitcom, The Brady Bunch? Jim Backus' stellar acting pedigree. The show's enduring effect on its cast: typecasting. Which cast members embraced their roles after the show, and who didn't. Which cast member ended up being the only one still earning residuals decades later? The Gilligan's Island tie-in to the "Very Brady Sequel" movie. Sidebar: the 1990's Brady movies. "Gilligan's Planet?!!" "Aloha Paradise" - who remembers this show? The Gilligan's Island "warm fuzzy." Mary Ann's navel: snuck by the network standards and practices. The various island inventions: the car, the washing machine. Sidebar: Robbie-Ann and Karen talk about their kindergarten friendship, and the outfits they wore. Gilligan's Island shooting locations - where Seinfeld and Roseanne were also filmed. Who was the only Gilligan's Island star who did not guest star on The Love Boat? Sidebar: a discussion of their Gen X Childhood friendship. Robbie-Ann describes going to see Shaun Cassidy with Karen in 1978, and Amy wants to know what Karen and Robbie-Ann wore to the show. Who had better toys, Karen or Robbie-Ann? Robbie-Ann coveted Karen's Bionic Woman Dome House, her I Dream of Jeannie doll and bottle-house playset, and her Pet Ghost. Robbie-Ann describes the first day of kindergarten 40+ years ago, when she and Karen met. Karen and Robbie-Ann talk about kindergarten life in the 70s, and Robbie-Ann's bravery in the face of being told she couldn't play with the boy's better toys at recess. Final thoughts on the "warm fuzzy" of Gilligan's Island: there was no villain, no romance on the island, and Karen celebrates the real life friendship between Mary Ann, and Natalie Schafer.

Inspired (or uninspired) by Jimmy Kimmel and Norman Lear's casting in their recent Facts of Life/Different Strokes reboots, we decided to do our own recasting of a few of our favorite old sitcoms, as if they were rebooted today for some ridiculous live performance with random actors who were too old or completely miscast for the parts. We bring you a NEW cast for Three's Company, Gilligan's Island, Happy Days, and Cheers! In our version of this game, we take all the allowable C&C liberties and talk through which actors of today, regardless of age, would make up super fun casts for these reboots.

Today on the Rarified Heir Podcast we are talking to Bill Funt, whose father Allen Funt was creator, host, producer and force of nature behind the iconic television show Candid Camera. Founded in 1947 as a radio program called Candid Microphone Funt spun-off the property into LPs in the 1950s and even movies like What Do You Say To A Naked Lady in 1970 and Candid Candid Camera for Playboy TV in the 80s. But I digress. We talk to Bill about what his father would think about being known as the very first reality show, if Candid Camera was either a cruel show as the critics said or a fantastic human experiment as his fans believed, it's genesis during WWI, Funt's interview on the Ernie Kovacs hosted The Tonight Show where they do a spoof of the show called Rancid Camera, surviving a literal hijacking of their Eastern Airlines airplane to Miami which was diverted to Cuba in the 60s, his mother's Marilyn Funt's book Are You Anybody? interviewing celebrity wives, his aunt, Lyricist Elaine Laron whose song “Name Dropping” might as well have been the theme song for this podcast and a whole lot more. All in all we had a lot of Funt. So sit back, take a listen and “Smile! You're on Candid Camera” on the Rarified Heir Podcast.
