Architecture's conscience – as building, buildings, materials and practices – is a bolt-on at best, but more often a semantic, sophistic trick. Architecture as a profession talks ethically but it's very difficult to see where this manifests in real life. This is an agency problem but also a discipline problem – at a profession-level individualism resists collective action to solve broad social problems. At a policy level, any attempt by anybody to suggest architects have some social obligation that impinges on “design” gets shot down. In a May 2026 op-ed for the Journal of Architecture entitled Architecture et Révolution: The Engineered Consent of a Discipline, Ole Bouman, writer, curator, publisher and Professor in the College of Architecture & Urbanism, Tongji University, Shanghai, makes a strong claim: architecture is aligned with delivering the status quo, just as Le Corbusier suggested in it should. Contrary to the general belief that we ask too much of architecture, Bouman suggests perhaps in fact we ask too little.Ole suggests that the polycrisis upon us requires action at the collective level. To illustrate this, he uses the bicycle: no single bicycle fights climate change but "a culture of cycling can,". He's a self-made man who paid his dues as a Hollywood movie set builder before becoming an entrepreneur and successful businessman. He made his mark designing and fabricating retail stores, trade-show exhibits, and custom retail fixtures through his full-service design firm, Studio Concepts. Their success came from partnering with major brands across multiple industries, and after more than 20+ years, he and his business partner sold the company.His next venture put him at the forefront of California's move toward legalized marijuana agriculture. He purchased a multi-acre farm, secured a rare and highly limited state grow permit, and now supplies wholesale product to the industry—including consumer direct line of products called “HITS”.Most recently, his passion for design has resurfaced through his housing design and remodeling company, TRB Triumph Royal Builders.We're stoked to sit down with our good friend and welcome to the show Mr. Craig “BO” Bouman.

But SDSU had already turned the corner the week before in the dramatic win at North Dakota. So, what is the other silver bullet at SDSU? Hint: It lies in both the head coach and offensive coordinator. In Wednesday's "John-o-logue," Happy Hour John Gaskins plucked insight from Dan Jackson and others (like John Stiegelmeier) to pinpoint the turning points.At USD, there isn't one player or aspect that sticks out as a cure-all in their four-game win streak, which included three consecutive wins over Top 25 teams just to reach the playoffs.But there was a broad, overarching concept employed by head coach Travis Johansen that yielded powerful results. It wasn't an obvious or dramatic silver bullet, but Johansen reveals it in his weekly one-on-one 30 minute chat with Gaskins. After a close first half against Drake, the Yotes pulled away 38-17 in the first round of the playoffs as quarterback Aidan Bouman had his best game of the season.Was there a big turnaround moment for Bouman?
