As my summer hiatus continues, I am bringing forward past episodes that present themselves for another listen. This one came through a number of synchronicities. As I explained in the new introduction, I found great value in re-listening to this one and was able to deepen into the message Dr. Brianne Grogan shared. The original episode was titled; The Practical Magic of the Pelvic Floor with Dr. Brianne Grogan The episode was not just about pelvic health, it was about how we can open our consciousness to include more of what we choose for our own bodies and our own health. My powerful guest was Dr. Brianne Grogan who brings forward a treasure trove of wisdom for best practices for vital health and a life well lived—therefore, practical magic. As Dr. Bri shared, the pelvic floor is the epicentre for so many of the body's operations. We discussed bio-tensegrity a whole body approach. When one part of the body is compromised, the entire structure responds to balance out the problem. Many of us are still responding to the symptoms that might show up and not getting to the root of the issue. Learning more about the foundational aspect of the pelvic floor in particular brings us back into awareness first, and then control of our body's vital health. That's the practical. The magic comes in when we recognize that much of what we have accepted about our health and wellness may simply be an outdated belief system that is ready to be released. The invitation is to explore what beliefs you might be holding and what you have accepted as truth that might not be. Stepping into your own knowing and finding the right formula for yourself. Dr. Bri has devoted herself to helping others understand their bodies through her incredible, accessible, information rich YouTube channel, Dr. Bri's Vibrant Pelvic Health. She says that beginning with an awareness of the hidden anatomy of the pelvic floor (which most of us were not taught about) is key to understanding and trusting this part of our body and how it corresponds to our overall health. Many of the issues that result from pelvic floor dysfunction are very “common” but that doesn't mean that they are okay or that we need to live with them. Gaining self awareness and understanding allows us to take the reigns back with confidence. We become adept at weaving the practical and the magical into the tapestry of our own embodiment. As Bri says, It's the challenges that change you and there are gifts in every challenge. I encourage every woman listening to go to Dr. Bri's website to learn more, to visit her YouTube channel and in particular to watch the two videos she made on the basics of pelvic floor anatomy and health, and to tune into all parts of your own body to inner stand and choose the best for your own radiant health and joy-full living now! If someone is experiencing these symptoms right now, what are the first action steps that you recommend? How did you become involved in helping men overcome pelvic pain? What was the most challenging thing to overcome during your healing journey? How has your program/ view/ perception of persistent pelvic pain evolved over time? Takeaways for listeners -your pain/dysfunction is created by the brain at the deepest level -mechanical therapies can ease the nervous system and be good for biomechanics, but you must discover the mental and emotional issues, change your perspective in the face of the symptoms Where can you find more of Michael Hodge: Transform Men's Pelvic Health Website: https://www.transformpelvichealth.com/ The Overcome Pelvic + Urinary Issues Program 7 Day Free Kickstart: https://bit.ly/pelvicpainfree Transform Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/@TransformPelvicHealth Visit me at: My Website: https://www.pelvicorerehab.com/ Instagram : https://www.instagram.com/pelvicorerehab Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/pelvicorerehab/ YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCCiEl1ZFlA5SzN44MhUwzgA?view_as=subscriber Ebook Books links Pregnancy Ebook: https://www.pelvicorerehab.com/pain-free-pregnancy-guide Pelvic Pain, Bladder leaking, and 8 steps to achieve pelvic healing https://www.pelvicorerehab.com/pelvicfloorguides Menopause Guide https://www.pelvicorerehab.com/menopauseguide Postpartum ebook https://www.pelvicorerehab.com/headtotoewellnessformommyandbaby Disclaimer: Susan Winograd, PT offers health and fitness information intended to assist you in improving your general health and well-being. This week's episode is a good one! Today I am talking to Dr. Brianne Grogan. Dr. Bri is a pelvic floor physiotherapist who helps people to recover from pelvic floor dysfunction, pelvic pain, bladder and bowel dysfunction and pelvic floor injuries through her online programmes and free resources (like YouTube)! She is the author of Lady Bits: Understand Your Body, Elevate Your Health, and Reclaim Your Spark Naturally, the founder of FemFusion and Vibrant Pelvic Health and is the podcast host of Dr.Bri Talks Lady Bits. I was so excited to have Dr Bri on the show because I get so many questions about how to work out safely with endo - lots of you want to move your bodies, but you're scared of making the pain worse or doing damage! Many of you have also expressed that you have fitness goals and that you're fed up of just doing yoga or stretching exercises, so I really wanted to talk to someone who actually creates workout videos and who could speak to these issues. In this episode we discuss: Which types of workouts are safe for endo, vaginismus and bladder pain and which ones we may need to tweak and tailor. How to exercise safely with endo and pelvic pain conditions - whilst still growing your booty and building abs if that's what you want to do! The correct form to support pelvic health with endo. The benefits of movement for people with chronic pelvic pain conditions. How and when to adapt our exercise routine if we're having a bad day pain wise. When was the first time any health care professional talked to you about your pelvic floor? Did you know it makes up part of your core, well beyond your abdominal muscles? Most women don't hear about their pelvic floor until they have a postpartum condition like prolapse or bladder leakage. Which is a shame, because with some conservative care and attention on the pelvic floor, we can possibly avoid and even quickly heal pelvic floor issues before they become chronic. In today's show, Dr. Brianne Grogan, DPT discusses two such postpartum conditions, and she gives a fascinating discussion about kegels (and how doing them wrong can cause damage), how the pelvic floor is an emotional storage center, and so much more about those lady bits you may not have known before. If you're planning to become pregnant, are pregnant, or have had children, you'll definitely benefit from hearing what Dr. Bri has to say today. For full show notes, visit www.themomfeed.comLike this episode? Pelvic floor pain is one of the most common issues we have that no one talks about. I'm joined by my girlfriend, Dr. Brianne Grogan, to talk about how she makes relieving pelvic pain accessible and, dare I say, fun. Key Takeaways The steps to relieve pelvic floor pain at home: Deep breathing Relaxation techniques Body scanning Stretching Talk about your pelvic pain About Dr. Brianne Grogan With nearly 15 million views on YouTube and a 5-star reviewed podcast and book, Dr. Brianne Grogan, PT, DPT is a leading voice in the field of pelvic health and wellness. Her viewers love her for her down-to-earth, compassionate approach and for making pelvic floor fitness fun, mainstream, and accessible. Breathing and Relaxation for Pelvic Floor Pain Pelvic floor pain is a serious condition that you can start treating at home. Dr. Brianne Grogan is here today to talk about what you can do, starting today, to ease the chronic pain that's so common among both women and men. She takes us right back to basics. If you have pelvic floor pain, some of the things you can start doing to calm it down are deep breathing exercises and relaxing. This might sound easier said than done, but Bri breaks some of these exercises down into really manageable tasks. Bri also talks about the Paradoxical Relaxation method. This approach basically takes a look at how you can relax as much as you can - and from there, accepting where you are. This might mean that you accept you have a certain degree of pelvic pain, but it's much less than it was before you relaxed. Embrace Your Feminine Energy to Reduce Pelvic Floor Pain Brianne talks a lot about masculine and feminine energy in this episode. These energies exist in both of us and we can embody them both at any given time. While masculine energy is very much in the mind of forcing through the pain, treating pelvic health needs a more nurturing, gentle approach, which comes from our feminine energy. By stepping into our feminine energy, Bri explains some of the techniques we can use to relax our pelvic floor and reduce the pain we have there at home. From self-massage to internal stretching, healthy eating to self-care and relaxation, she lets us know exactly what we can do without a large financial investment. I do want to stress one thing: Bri explains why doing Kegel exercises is counterproductive to reducing pelvic floor pain. Kegels help to strengthen your muscles and focus on contracting your pelvic floor - the exact opposite of what you want to do to relieve any pain you're having! As always, you can ask me anything and let me hear your thoughts in the comments on the episode page. If you have questions, email team@drannacabeca.com. In This Episode What the basics of calming your pelvic floor pain are [9:00] How you can breathe your way to an ease in pelvic floor pain [12:24] What Paradoxical Relaxation is [14:00] What the differences between masculine and feminine energy are [22:25] What you can do at home to release your pelvic floor muscles [28:30] How our brain and our gut can contribute to our pelvic health [36:00] Quotes “Focus on effortless letting go. You're letting go without pushing to make it happen, which is interesting because that brings in the energy, masculine versus feminine energy. It's a very masculine energy to push and make things happen, “I'm going to make this tension go away!” in a very hard-driving manner. We're doing a very feminine approach to releasing the tension. Let's see what can let go naturally.” [13:25] “It's not that it's in your head, it's not that you're making up the pain at all. It's just that there are some responses that we need to unlearn.” [17:37] “What we need is actually to release the muscles. Kegels are really the last thing you want to do if you have pelvic pain and tension.” [25:32] Resources Mentioned Heal Pelvic Pain at Home, Holistically Find Dr. Brianne Grogan Online Follow Dr. Brianne Grogan on Facebook | Instagram | YouTube | Pinterest Listen to Dr. Bri Talks Lady Bits on Apple Podcasts | Spotify Join the KetoGreen Community on Facebook Buy Keto-Green 16 Check out the full episode page Find Dr. Anna Online Follow Dr. Anna on Facebook | Instagram | Twitter Related Episodes: 154: How to Unlearn What You Were Taught About Suffering w/ Sarah Anne Stewart 156: How to Have Compassion for Yourself w/ Mary Shores 153: Feeling Fit and Fabulous After Fifty w/ Debra Atkinson
Pelvic floor health can decline for women of all ages, whether they've had a pregnancy or not. Though severe issues are more common after giving birth, some degree of trouble happens as a woman grows older. Dr. Brianne Grogan is here to talk about the link between pelvic floor health and mental health and what we can do to prevent the decline. Brianne had her own pelvic floor scare when she went for a run 3 weeks post-partum and felt something shift to where it wasn't supposed to be. She was determined to regain her pelvic health and now teaches other women and men how to protect themselves. Because for so many people, mental health is linked to pelvic health, and women who experience pelvic issues often experience feelings of loneliness, as well. A women's health physical therapist is a specialist who works exclusively with women to improve their pelvic floor health. If you've been experiencing issues, you should ask your doctor for a referral. Brianne explains what some of the symptoms of pelvic floor problems are and what you should look out for. She also shares some great advice about easy lifestyle changes you can make right away to start improving your pelvic health. From regularly walking and Kegel exercises to her favorite butterfly position, every little change can have a positive impact. But you also need to be careful that you're not overexercising that area as this can actually have a negative impact on your pelvic health. Brianne talks about some of the less appealing topics of women's health, but learning to use the toilet properly is so important for all of us. Make sure you're never pushing your urine out and consider investing in a squatty potty. She also shares some tips on how we can prevent pelvic prolapse, which is a pretty scary experience for women. Do you regularly practice Kegel exercises? Are you aware of how much you're pushing while using the toilet? Have you heard of a women's health physical therapist? In This Episode: How your pelvic floor health is linked to your mental health What a women's health physical therapist does What some of the symptoms of pelvic floor problems are What lifestyle changes you can make to start improving your pelvic floor health right now How you can use the toilet properly How to prevent pelvic prolapse Quotes: “There's a lot of build-in shame around this personal area of our body, aside from the fact of prolapse and incontinence.” (12:25) “Now that she's found a group of women who get her, who understand her, the loneliness is gone.” (36:19) “There is no age limit on good pelvic health!” (38:26) Links Join “Lift” Pelvic Organ Support Series Buy Lady Bits Find Dr. Brianne Grogan Online Find Dr. Brianne Grogan on Facebook | Instagram | Pinterest | YouTube Check out the full episode page Find Dr. Anna Online Follow Dr. Anna on Facebook | Instagram | Twitter

Did you know that researchers at the Indiana University School of Medicine used FMRI machines to monitor brain activity while women and men listened to a passage from a novel? While most of the men showed activity exclusively on the left side of their brain, which is typically associated with listening and speech, most of the women showed additional activity on the right side of their brain, which is usually associated with creativity and expressiveness. So this could be why women are usually credited with hearing what’s left unsaid in the conversation, and it also speaks to the very vast difference between men and women on a lot of things. With today’s guest, we’re actually going to be touching on the difference between men and women when it comes especially to movement and fitness and health. I couldn’t be more excited.
