Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine offer a different way to understand the body, especially when it comes to chronic pain, pelvic floor dysfunction, stress, digestion, anxiety, inflammation, nervous system dysregulation, and unexplained symptoms. In this episode of hol+, Dr. Taz sits down with Dr. Jordan Barber, clinician, educator, published researcher, licensed acupuncturist, and author of Thinking in Chinese Medicine: A Patient's Guide to Acupuncture, Herbs, and Healing, for a grounded conversation about what Chinese medicine actually is, why it has been misunderstood in the West, and how it can help us see chronic pain, pelvic floor dysfunction, stress, symptoms, and whole-body health through a more connected lens.Together, they explore why Chinese medicine is not just acupuncture, herbs, or “energy work,” but a way of thinking. Dr. Barber explains how Traditional Chinese Medicine looks at the whole person, including sleep, digestion, emotions, stress, relationships, movement, pain patterns, and the way someone experiences life. He also breaks down how the word qi became simplified into “energy,” why that translation can be misleading, and why Chinese medicine is often more practical, physiological, and science-informed than many people realize.Dr. Barber shares his own path into Chinese medicine after working in IT, living through 9/11 in New York City, and experiencing chronic health issues that conventional care did not resolve. After trying acupuncture, Chinese herbs, and dietary changes, he saw a major improvement in his recurring sinus issues and began to understand health through a completely different framework. If you're listening to this and thinking, “My symptoms feel connected, but no one is helping me connect the dots,” join the Circle here:
Was umfasst moderne Beckenbodenphysiotherapie tatsächlich? GastAnnika Mewes, B.Sc. Most women have been told that leaking when you sneeze, lower back pain, hip pain, painful intimacy, and core weakness are simply part of motherhood. What if they're not? In this eye-opening conversation, Autumn sits down with prenatal and postpartum corrective exercise specialist Andrea Dimler to uncover one of the most overlooked areas of women's health: the pelvic floor. As a former labor and delivery nurse, neurology nurse, CrossFit coach, childbirth educator, and women's corrective exercise specialist, Andrea has helped countless women understand what most of us were never taught about the connection between breathing, posture, core strength, birth recovery, and pelvic floor health. What makes this conversation so surprising is that many symptoms women struggle with every day don't always point where we think they do. Back pain. Hip pain. Leaking when you laugh. Urgency to find a bathroom. Pain with intimacy. Core weakness that won't improve no matter how much you exercise. Many of these issues may have far more to do with the pelvic floor than most women realize. Inside this episode, you'll discover: • What the pelvic floor actually is and why it matters • The surprising connection between your breathing and pelvic floor health • Why leaking after childbirth is common, but not normal • The difference between a weak pelvic floor and an overly tight pelvic floor • Why back pain, hip pain, and posture issues may be connected • The truth about kegels and why they aren't always the answer • How pregnancy and childbirth impact the pelvic floor • Practical steps women can take today to begin supporting healing naturally • What every woman should know before pregnancy, during pregnancy, and after birth Whether you've had children or not, this conversation may completely change how you think about your body, your symptoms, and your health. Because sometimes the issue isn't where the pain shows up. It's where the story starts. ✳️ Check out Andrea's App ✴️ Connect with Andrea on Facebook, Instagram, or TikTok
Did you know that pelvic floor dysfunction can show up as hip pain, back pain, anxiety, constipation, painful intercourse, bladder issues, restricted movement and even breathing dysfunction? In this episode, we're diving into one of the most overlooked aspects of women's health: the pelvic floor. Many women assume pelvic floor issues only affect those who have had children, but the reality is that pelvic floor dysfunction can impact women at every stage of life. From birth injuries and surgery to chronic stress, hormonal changes during perimenopause and menopause, prolonged sitting and even the way we breathe, there are countless factors that can influence pelvic floor health. Drawing on insights from the London Pilates Conference and leading pelvic health education, I explore why the pelvic floor is so much more than a group of muscles responsible for bladder control. You'll learn how the pelvic floor works as part of a whole-body system, influencing movement, posture, breathing, core function and overall wellbeing. If this episode resonates with you, please share it with the women in your life. It could be the information they never knew they needed. Why does sex sometimes feel like a chore or worse, a pain? And does your GP really care what your "down there" looks like during a pap smear? In this episode, Claire Murphy and Dr. Mariam dive deep into the complexities of sexual health and pelvic wellness. They are joined by sexual medicine consultant Dr. Karen Freilich to break down the science of dyspareunia (painful intercourse). From the "Car Alarm" theory of pain to the "Accelerator and Brake" model of desire, we explore why your body might be tensing up and how to hit the reset button. Plus, in Med School, we tackle a viral TikTok myth: Is women's saliva more acidic than men's, and does that mean we're doomed to more cavities? We look at the research (or lack thereof) and why "pink" toothpaste isn't a thing. And, in the Quick Consult, Dr. Mariam answers Kayla’s burning question: When you're in the stirrups for a cervical screening, can the doctor see your butthole? (Hint: They’re more worried about their laundry than your anatomy). GET IN TOUCH Sign up to the Well Newsletter to receive your weekly dose of trusted health expertise without the medical jargon. In this episode of The Pelvic Floor Connection, pelvic floor and core coach Sarahjane West-Watson explores why running can trigger urinary leakage and why the solution is often very different from what many women have been told. Many women assume leaking during exercise simply means their pelvic floor is weak and that doing more Kegel exercises will fix the problem. In reality, pelvic floor dysfunction during running is often linked to pressure management, muscle coordination and core function, rather than strength alone. Running creates repeated pressure through the abdomen and pelvis. With every stride, your pelvic floor must respond quickly to support the bladder and manage internal pressure. If this system is not coordinating effectively, symptoms like bladder leaks, heaviness or reduced control can appear. Sarahjane explains how over-gripping the core, activating the wrong muscles, or misunderstanding how the pelvic floor works can increase pressure on the bladder and make symptoms worse — even for women who are actively exercising. You'll also learn how hormonal changes across the menstrual cycle and during midlife can influence bladder control, and why factors such as caffeine, hydration habits and pelvic pressure can sometimes aggravate symptoms during running. If you have ever wondered: • Why do I leak when I run? • Is leaking when running normal? • Why does my pelvic floor feel heavy during exercise? • Why aren't Kegels fixing my bladder leaks? • Can I run again without worrying about leaking? This episode will help you better understand what your body may be asking for — and what you can do to support it. Key Topics Covered in This Episode • Why many women leak when they run and why it is so common • The difference between stress incontinence and urge incontinence • How running creates repeated pressure through the abdomen and pelvis • Why pelvic floor coordination, not just strength, is essential for continence • How over-gripping the core and abdominal muscles can increase bladder pressure • Why many women activate the wrong muscles when trying to do pelvic floor exercises • The role of the pelvic floor sling and deep core system in supporting the bladder • Why postnatal women often notice bladder leaks when running • How hormonal changes and the menstrual cycle influence pelvic floor function • The impact of caffeine, hydration and bladder irritants on bladder control during exercise • Why simply doing Kegel exercises may not solve leaking when running Restore Your Core & Pelvic Floor If you would like expert support to reconnect and strengthen with your pelvic floor and deep core, Sarahjane's guided programme Transform Your Core & Pelvic Floor helps women understand how to activate the right muscles and build real support for movement, exercise and everyday life. Leaking urine? Painful sex? Constipation? TMJ? Back Pain? They can all be related to the musculoskeletal or genitourinary syndrome of menopause. Simply, tightness and/or dysfunction in the pelvic floor. In this interview, Andrea Donsky, a nutritionist, published menopause researcher, author, menopause educator, and co-founder of wearemorphus.com, talks with Jana Danielson, a wellness entrepreneur, Pilates educator, and creator of the Cooch Ball pelvic floor training tool.Topics:Pelvic Health and the Body's Connection: The discussion of how the pelvic floor is an integrated structure, not a standalone group of muscles. The Pelvic Floor and Core: The interview explains the anatomy of the pelvic floor and how it can function optimally (watch it on YouTube for visuals). The Importance of Breathing and Posture: A core theme is that breathing is the most fundamental pelvic floor strategy, and optimal posture is also key to pelvic floor function.Pelvic Floor Dysfunction and Misconceptions: Jana challenges the belief that dysfunction is "normal" during aging, stating that "common is not normal." Stressing that a too-tight (hypertonic) muscle is just as dysfunctional as a weak one.The Cooch Ball and the Release-Rebuild Method: The Cooch Ball method focuses on 30 days of "release only" to promote blood flow to the tissue, followed by a rebuild phase using exercises that integrate the pelvic floor with other muscles in the body.Impact on Libido and Orgasm: Andrea and Jana discuss how improving blood flow and releasing tension in the pelvic tissues can increase libido and the ability to have pleasure. The Pudendal Nerve and Shame: The Latin root of the word "pudendal" means "an area of shame", and this emotional context is connected to the lack of discussion and understanding of pelvic health.Links:Cooch Ball For Women: https://bit.ly/4qGRF3O Cooch Ball For Men: https://bit.ly/402Arme (great for men experiencing erectile dysfunction or dribbling)Pelvic Health Survey: https://forms.gle/RXM4BpFLtgP5m8nD9 Send a text ======Morphus: Menopause Reimagine
Painful sex is far more common than most women realize and far more complex than we're ever taught. In this episode, Dr. Leah shares her deeply personal 18-year journey with painful sex, low libido, and feeling dismissed by the medical system, alongside a comprehensive breakdown of the real root causes of pain during sex, from trauma and pelvic floor dysfunction to hormonal changes and lesser-known conditions like provoked vestibulodynia (PVD).We talk honestly about why painful sex is not something you should “just push through,” why many conventional treatments miss the mark, and how healing often requires addressing multiple layers at once: physical, neurological, hormonal, and emotional. If sex has ever felt painful, burning, tense, or emotionally complicated, or if you've been told everything “looks normal” but something still feels wrong, this conversation is for you.Painful sex is not a personal failure, a relationship problem, or something you should tolerate. Join her free health & longevity newsletter here: https://www.drvondawright.com/resources/aging-longevity This is a conversation many women don't realize they need until something starts to feel off. I sat down with Dr. Sara Reardon, a pelvic floor physical therapist known as The Vagina Whisperer, to talk about a part of women's health that quietly affects how we move, train, recover, and age. It is rarely discussed until symptoms begin to interfere with daily life. We explore the life stages when pelvic health is most vulnerable, including pregnancy, postpartum recovery, athletic training, and menopause, times when women are often told to accept changes without explanation. Sara offers clarity on how the pelvic floor adapts through these transitions and how early, thoughtful support can make a real difference. This episode provides perspective, reassurance, and a path forward to better understand your body, helping you move more confidently through every stage of life. We examine how pelvic floor health shows up in daily life: - How leaking, pain, and pressure reflect coordination issues rather than personal failure - Why athletes and active women experience pelvic floor symptoms more often than expected - How breathing patterns and pressure management affect strength, stability, and comfort - What pregnancy and postpartum recovery actually demand from the pelvic floor - How menopause changes tissue health, sensation, and support - Why pelvic floor care influences longevity, mobility, and confidence as we age About Dr. Sara Reardon: Sara Reardon, PT, DPT, also known as The Vagina Whisperer, is a board-certified pelvic floor physical therapist and leading voice in women's pelvic health. With over a decade of clinical experience, she helps women better understand their bodies and address pelvic floor issues across pregnancy, postpartum, athletics, and midlife.
You know you should have a strong core but what about your pelvic floor? Those seemingly minor annoyances like using the bathroom every hour is not your age or too much water. It is your body giving you a signal. How much urine do you think your bladder can actually hold? As women in this midlife season, we often joke about our small bladders and how often we are running to the bathroom. But my guest today says there's no such thing as a small bladder. If you have moments of leaking, pain or discomfort, you could be dealing with a very real issue called prolapse... not just another symptom of menopause. Prolapse is common in midlife women and even so, it doesn't have to be "normal." Lean into my conversation with my guest Jenn Lormand today for some important potty talk that will make you think differently about those constant bathroom runs and your pelvic floor as a whole. Dr. Geo Espinosa, one of America's foremost integrative urologists, dishes on men's urinary problems, natural support for testosterone, and prostate cancer. Lifestyle factors—diet, exercise, sleep and stress reduction—play an important role in all phases of urological health. Dr. Geo explains how he interacts with conventional urologists on the faculty of NYU Langone Medical Center where he practices. Why are men's urinary problems not just a matter of prostate size? How can natural strategies alleviate urinary difficulties without the need for surgery or drugs? Besides saw palmetto, what nutraceuticals can benefit men with urinary problems? Are there really natural herbal alternatives to testosterone? For men with prostate cancer who are under active surveillance, is there anything more that can be done to minimize their chance of eventually needing surgery or radiation? What nutraceuticals, vitamins and minerals have anti-prostate cancer potential?
Dr. Hoffman continues his conversation with Dr. Geo Espinosa, one of America's foremost integrative urologists.

Send us a textYour pelvic floor is not a mystery—it's a masterpiece of support, sensation, and stability that quietly shapes how you move, pee, and experience pleasure. We sit down with Heather Florio, CEO of Desert Harvest, to demystify the “hammock” of muscles that holds your organs, why tension often masquerades as strength, and how to fix pain without making it worse. From birth recovery to everyday stress, we map the signals of dysfunction—leaking, painful sex, low back aches—and share practical ways to release first, then rebuild.Heather brings two decades of global education and research to the mic, translating clinical insights into everyday steps. We talk pelvic wands and why glass can be a cleaner, safer choice than silicone. We unpack tantric-informed breath and sensory pacing to calm the nervous system and increase orgasm quality. We even challenge a common myth: sometimes Kegels are the villain if your floor is already too tight. Consider this your toolkit for resolving hypertonicity, finding comfort, and restoring confidence. Then we get chemical: vaginal pH and osmolality. You'll learn why an isoosmolar lubricant around 290 mOsm/kg protects your epithelial barrier, how many popular lubes overshoot into tissue-damaging territory, and how to spot red flags on labels. We cover FDA clearance, biome-matched washes and wipes, smarter strategies for recurrent UTIs, and new, chemical-free period wear designed from aloe-based fabrics. Along the way, we tackle sexual shame, advocate for pelvic PT as standard prenatal care, and share ways to raise kids with body literacy and consent as their compass. If you're ready to replace confusion with clarity—and pain with possibility—this conversation gives you science you can feel. Subscribe, share with a friend who needs it, and leave a review with your biggest takeaway so we can keep these essential conversations flowing.Find Desert Harvest online at:https://desertharvest.com/https://www.instagram.com/desertharvestaloevera/ Support the show
Why is everyone talking about their pelvic floor lately? This really wasn't something we ever heard discussed 10 years ago. But in reality, 1 out of 2 childbearing women experience pelvic floor dysfunction. And thanks to the interest in menopause, we're learning that your likelihood increases as estrogen levels decrease. The hard part about pelvic floor dysfunction, though, is that it doesn't look the same in every person. In today's episode, we break down what the condition can look like, what symptoms may be, and talk through the recommended treatments. Bonus: Brierley shares the surprising treatment that worked for her. Thank you for listening to The Happy Eating Podcast. Tune in weekly on Thursdays for new episodes! Hey Heal Squad! Get ready for a major education moment with Dr. Sara Reardon, board-certified pelvic floor physical therapist, TED presenter, and founder of The V-Hive platform. Dr. Sara (aka the Vagina Whisperer) is here to break down what the pelvic floor really is, why it matters WAY more than we've been taught, and how you can prevent and treat common issues like painful sex, urinary leakage, prolapse, constipation, and discomfort during pregnancy or menopause—without shame or mystery. She shares why so many of us were never taught about this essential part of our anatomy, how to know if you're experiencing tension vs. weakness, and how to start caring for this powerful part of your body through breath, awareness, and simple daily shifts (like stop pushing when you pee!). From taboo topics to everyday tips, this conversation will change how you view your pelvic floor—and give you the tools to reclaim your health at every stage of life! HEALERS & HEAL-LINERS: Painful sex is a signal, not something to ignore. Pain with intimacy is a sign your body needs attention, not something to normalize. Pelvic floor therapy can address the root causes and help you reconnect with your body without fear or shame. Stop pushing when you pee. Straining during urination or bowel movements can weaken your pelvic floor over time. Practicing proper mechanics helps preserve pelvic health through every life stage. Tight isn't strong. A tight pelvic floor often mimics weakness, leading to pain, leaks, or dysfunction. Learning how to relax your pelvic floor is just as important as strengthening it. -- HEAL SQUAD SOCIALS IG: https://www.instagram.com/healsquad/ TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@healsquadxmaria HEAL SQUAD RESOURCES: Heal Squad Website:https://www.healsquad.com/ Heal Squad x Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/HealSquad/membership Maria Menounos Website: https://www.mariamenounos.com My Curated Macy's Page: Shop My Macy's Storefront Prenuvo: Prenuvo.com/MARIA for $300 off Delete Me: https://bit.ly/43rkHwi code: SQUAD EMR-Tek Red Light: https://emr-tek.com/discount/Maria30 for 30% off Airbnb: https://www.airbnb.com/ Join In-Person Heal Retreat Waitlist! https://mariamenounos.myflodesk.com/heal-retreat-waitlist GUEST RESOURCES: Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/the.vagina.whisperer/?hl=en Website: https://thevagwhisperer.com/ Pre-Order Her Book!: https://thevagwhisperer.com/floored/ ABOUT MARIA MENOUNOS: Emmy Award-winning journalist, TV personality, actress, 2x NYT best-selling author, former pro-wrestler and brain tumor survivor, Maria Menounos' passion is to see others heal and to get better in all areas of life. Pelvic floor physical therapy (PFPT) is a crucial yet often overlooked component of gut health that can dramatically improve quality of life for people suffering from bowel issues, bladder problems, or pelvic pain. Dr. Alicia Jeffrey-Thomas joins us to demystify and normalize this specialized therapy and explain how proper pelvic floor function impacts everything from constipation to sexual health.• Understand that daily bowel movements don't necessarily mean you're not constipated• What happens during a PFPT session and how therapists create a safe + comfortable environment• The importance of proper pooping position• Why breathing techniques and sounds (like mooing!) can help relax your pelvic floor during bowel movements• Demystifying tools like pelvic wands and dilators for at-home maintenance • How dyssynergic defecation affects approximately 50% of people with constipation and how pelvic floor PT can help• Why all women can benefit from pelvic floor PT after childbirth (and even during pregnancy)• Men face pelvic health issues too, like post-prostate surgery incontinence • The downside of "peeing just in case" and how it trains your bladder to signal fullness prematurelyIf you've experienced pelvic floor issues, don't accept them as normal - seek help from a pelvic floor physical therapist who can address these problems and improve your overall quality of life.References and Resources:Rao SS, Patcharatrakul T.
