Addressing abortion starts with discipleship, not legislation. In this powerful conversation, Roland Warren, President of Care Net and author of The Alternative to Abortion, challenges Christians to move beyond politics and embrace a “pro-abundant life” perspective rooted in John 10:10. Drawing from his own story of an unplanned college pregnancy turned 43-year marriage, Roland reframes abortion as a discipleship issue—calling the Church to support not just life, but lives transformed by the Gospel. He shares practical ways churches can respond with compassion, healing, and hope to those facing pregnancy decisions.Main Topics:From Pro-Life to Pro-Abundant Life – Why saving babies isn't enough without also making disciplesShocking Church Statistics – 54% of abortion seekers identify as ChristiansMinistry, Not Politics – How small groups and churches can become safe, healing placesMary, Joseph & Making Life Disciples – Biblical models for gospel-centered careIf abortion is happening in our churches, what kind of gospel are we really preaching?Make a matching gift donation by June 10!View the transcript, leave comments, and check out recommended resources on the Episode Landing Page!Free Grand Design Video Course from DNA: Male and Female in the Image of God
More than 60% of children who grow up in church will walk away from it in their young adult years, according to Barna. Why is this happening—and what can be done to reverse the trend? Dr. Josh Mulvihill, Executive Director of Church and Family Ministry at RenewaNation, joins us to unpack the root of the crisis: a breakdown in biblical discipleship. In today's fragmented Christian landscape, tribal loyalties sometimes overshadow biblical truth. At Disciple Nations Alliance, we're frequently asked where we fit theologically. The answer? We don't wear a denominational jersey—and that's by design. In this episode, we unpack why choosing Scripture over systems isn't theological compromise but an emphasis on the heart of God's mission.Rather than aligning with a single tradition, we stand on clear, foundational truths: Jesus is King, His kingdom is advancing, and His method is disciple-making through the Church—holistically and incarnationally—grounded in a biblical worldview. These truths transcend denominational lines and unify believers from Pentecostals in Latin America to Anglicans in Africa. This conversation is a call to elevate Scripture above interpretive frameworks, to approach theology with humility and charity, and to focus on telling the full biblical story.Make a matching gift donation by June 10!View the transcript, leave comments, and check out recommended resources on the Episode Landing Page!Learn More about the 2025 DNA Forum in Panama
Are we experiencing a spiritual revival—or facing a full-blown discipleship crisis in the American church? In this powerful conversation, renowned researcher Dr. George Barna shares alarming new data and challenges us to rethink how we measure spiritual health and make disciples in a post-Christian culture.Main TopicsThe Decline of Belief in the God of the BibleThe fastest-growing spiritual segment in America is now the “don'ts”—those who don't know, don't believe, or don't care if God exists.Barna reveals a 30-year decline in belief in the God of the Bible. Why Discipleship Metrics Are FailingMost churches track attendance, programs, and budgets—but not spiritual transformation.Barna outlines six biblical criteria for true discipleship based on Jesus' teachings.Only 1 in 10 born-again Christians actively disciples others. The Crucial Role of Children's Ministry and Worldview FormationA child's worldview is largely formed by age 13, starting as early as 15–18 months.Only 12% of children's pastors have a biblical worldview themselves.Barna's "Seven Cornerstones" research shows that rejecting even one foundational belief drops the likelihood of a biblical worldview from 83% to just 2%.What if the greatest threat to the church today isn't cultural hostility—but our failure to make true disciples?View the transcript, leave comments, and check out recommended resources on the Episode Landing Page!Learn More about the 2025 DNA Forum in Panama

AI offers incredible potential, from accelerating Bible translation to combating human trafficking and much more – but what else is at stake? Is AI dehumanizing you? If we're not careful, the mind-blowing capabilities of artificial intelligence will lure us into surrendering our discernment, knowledge, and intellect to this new pseudo-intelligence. Beyond information, people are turning to AI for companionship, while some want AI and technology to extend lifespan in a search for immortality.Today, we're joined by a fascinating guest: Brian Johnson, who brings over 30 years of leadership in emerging technology and cybersecurity to the table. He offers uniquely Christian perspectives on AI's rapid rise and profound impact on humanity.Johnson helps us understand the last 50 years of technological development and explains the recent seismic shift from an "attention economy" to a "relational economy," where AI no longer just captures your focus—it mimics human relationships and connection. This raises deep questions about human identity and humanity's age-old temptation to "become like God" through our own creations.Despite these dangers, this conversation is filled with hope. Brian shares how Christians can and should engage AI wisely—using it for Kingdom purposes. Send us a textShould Christians engage in politics? Of course, but how? In this episode, Richard Nelson, author of Christianity and Politics and President of The Commonwealth Policy Center, tackles this critical question. Historically and still today, Christians often fall into one of three inappropriate approaches to political engagement: they avoid politics as irrelevant to “more important” spiritual matters; strive for neutrality by avoiding alignment with any party or candidate; or they focus solely on allegiance to Jesus as King, seeking to ignore earthly government and rulers. Richard eloquently challenges these views, emphasizing how God's sovereignty extends to politics and culture. He highlights a biblical approach to issues like free speech, the sanctity of life, religious freedom, and fiscal responsibility. Thankfulness is a focus in many American homes in the month of November. But have you ever considered that thankfulness is not a universally valued characteristic? Not to mention that the amount of gratitude we see on a daily basis actually seems to be decreasing today. How does one's sense of privilege or status result in a lack of gratitude toward others? How does belief in the significance of each person's life cultivate gratitude within a person? Does belief in the goodness and sovereignty of God inspire thankfulness in the midst of trying times? Our office team gathered together to reflect on these questions and share our favorite biblical passages about the priority and results of thankfulness in the Christian life. We discussed why the biblical worldview places such an emphasis on gratitude, and contrasted this with different worldviews. Is justice about dismantling oppressive systems and redistributing power to achieve equality of outcome? Or is that a redefinition of true justice? In recent years, postmodernism and neo-Marxist critical theory have shaped a new ideology labeled "social justice." Though it claims to promote equality and defend the oppressed, this worldview stands in stark contrast to biblical justice. In this episode, we offer a defense of biblical justice and explain why we've moved away from the phrase "social justice." Join us as we unpack the foundational ideas behind these two opposing views of justice and explore the consequences of living them out in today's society.View the transcript, leave comments, and check out recommended resources on the Episode Landing Page! This powerful word has been so redefined and repeatedly abused that many Christians shy away at the mention of it. Yet, authority can bring about incredibly positive change when exercised in proper obedience to God's original intentions. In this episode, we delve into the true, biblical meaning of authority, exploring how Jesus entrusts each of us with different forms of it.We'll challenge the idea that authority is inherently oppressive or self-serving, showing instead how Christ models a selfless, accountable form of leadership. Authority, in its purest form, isn't about power concentrated in governments or rulers who stray from God's purposes—it's about serving others with integrity and humility.Join us as we define and unpack the biblical understanding of authority and discover how, as Christians, we can faithfully live out the roles of authority entrusted to us.View the transcript, leave comments, and check out recommended resources on the Episode Landing Page! One of the primary, God-given roles of governing authorities is to protect its weakest citizens. This especially means a government must structure a society where vulnerable children can thrive. Freedom means I can do whatever I want, right? Wrong, that's a hijacked and distorted meaning. The Biblical view of freedom is "The capacity to self-govern; to act according to one's choices within God's created order and under His moral law." This matters because it gives guidance for a culture to truly maintain freedom without succumbing to humanity's gravitational pull toward chaos. It requires a collective embrace of the boundaries that God lovingly instituted for our good and flourishing. Join Scott and the team as we consider the wisdom of this definition and contrast it with the contemporary counterfeit. What kinds of lives and societies would grow from these contrasting definitions? This episode will encourage you to consider the profound importance and implications of this word and how it is used.View the transcript, leave comments, and check out recommended resources on the Episode Landing Page!Find out more about the book by Scott David Allen, 10 Words to Heal Our Broken World: Restoring the True Meaning of Our Most Important Words at 10wordsbook.org.
Is there such a thing as Christian art? Or are there just Christians who make great art that represents something of the nature of God? There are no Christian bagels, surgeries, or financial portfolios, so why do we expect artists in our churches to create sculptures or plays that are "Christian?" Only humans can be Christians. Let's bring freedom to the artistic gift in ourselves and others, glorifying God through any art that speaks to the beauty, hope, joy, meaning, or grandeur of God and His character. Today, we sit down with three professional artists who embody this and who use the beauty of their art to speak prophetically to their cultures. Join us and learn how you can use this language to spread hope in despair, splendor in ugliness, and ultimately disciple your nation with God's beauty. Historically, the definition of marriage has been rich, calling humanity toward a knowledge of the truth of our very nature. Based on biblical principles, marriage was understood to be: “A God-ordained, comprehensive, exclusive, and permanent union that brings a man and a woman together as husband and wife, to be father and mother to any children their union brings into being. It is based on the anthropological truth that men and women are different and complementary, the biological fact that reproduction depends on a man and a woman, and the social reality that children need both a mother and a father.”Today, marriage has been radically redefined and simply means "a legally recognized, romantic caregiving relationship between consenting adults who intend to live together as sexual and domestic partners."Can the redefinition of a word so transform our thinking that the actual truth and meaning of the word becomes extinct? In today's episode, Scott Allen, author of the upcoming book, 10 Words to Heal Our Broken World, responds by analyzing how we got here, considering the consequences of holding this definition, and helping us discern how we can bring God's truth back to this critical word. As Christians, we absolutely must not let the meaning of marriage continue to slide further and further from God's original definition. It's far past time, but not too late, for us as believers to stand up for marriage for the sake of our communities, nations, children, and for generations to come. Sex and its definition are powerful, literally bringing life to individuals, marriages, and families. Meanwhile, false definitions of sex abound and lead individuals and society into incredible confusion and pain. Let's look at popular definitions today and compare them with a definition of sex founded on biblical principles and consider why the difference matters. The world says SEX is (1) Synonymous with gender, a social construct; a person's subjective sense of their sexual identity, without regard to biology or anatomy. (2) The ultimate source of personal identity and meaning. (3) Any form of recreational sexual activity done to give pleasure.Biblical principles teach us that SEX is (1) The God-created male-female division. (2) Sexual intercourse between a man and a woman; a comprehensive one-flesh union of heart, mind, spirit, and body, often bringing the gift of children. Sexual intercourse is a gift from God exclusively for the uniting of husband and wife in marriage.Words and definitions matter because they shape the way we think and feel. These, in turn, determine our choices and actions, which shape the cultures we live in, for better or worse. One of the primary desires of the Sexual Revolution of the 1950s and '60s was to radically redefine the word sex. The Sexual Revolution has accomplished its goal of turning the word sex on its head. But ideas have consequences, and as we have seen over the last 60-plus years, everything these new definitions of sex touch has eventually led to despair and destruction. Why has this happened? Because once again, whenever humans try to take a God-given word and twist it to mean anything besides its original definition, we're simultaneously twisting ourselves away from God's perfect design for us. Truth is an internal, personal, and subjective sense of reality that exists only in the mind. It's a social construct created to advantage whatever group currently holds power. These are the predominant understandings of one of the most important words in our world. The majority of people around you think and act based on this understanding. Today, courts are being corrupted by those in power, and men are going to the Olympics, claiming to be women. It's not as if we can just say two plus two equals five. Truth matters, and if we as Christians don't hold to God's clear, eternal, and essential definition of Truth, we're at the doorstep of chaos. Scott Allen and the team unpack this first word from Scott's new book, Ten Words to Heal Our Broken World: Restoring the True Meaning of Our Most Important Words, and learn how you can play a part in healing and restoring this broken world through the protection and proclamation of Truth. In the fight to end abortion, changing policies is necessary, but it falls woefully short of solving the problem. Today, we have a culture that worships sex, and unless this changes, abortion will be an inevitable consequence of this lifestyle. To end abortion, we need to shift our target upstream to the root lies behind this worship, specifically to the lies surrounding what it means to be human and God's design for the sexes and family. For the discussion, our friend Naomi Smith joins us in unpacking each of these lies. Ideas have consequences, and right now, our culture needs better ideas that will not lead to abortion.View the transcript, leave comments, and check out recommended resources on the Episode Landing Page!

Join us as Scott Allen, Dwight Vogt, and Luke Allen uncover the deep connection between fruitfulness and joy in this enriching episode of Ideas Have Consequences. Through a fascinating exploration of the Latin word "fructus," which means both fruit and enjoyment, we reveal how living a productive life aligns with God's desire for our happiness. We draw from personal stories and scriptural references, showing how our mission as Christians includes transforming nations to reflect the beauty and truth of God's kingdom.Reflect on the biblical imagery of a tree planted by water as we discuss scriptures like Jeremiah 17:8 and Psalm 92. We affirm that despite the challenges, the joys of family and procreation are deeply rooted in divine truths. Moreover, we explore the interconnectedness of love, joy, and fruitfulness, particularly through the lens of the fruits of the Spirit, and share touching personal anecdotes that demonstrate the profound joy brought by love.We also delve into how meaningful work, faith, and family are key components of a fulfilling life, referencing Arthur Brooks' research on happiness. From the sacred-secular divide exemplified by Eric Liddell to the transformative power of joyful Christian communities, our conversation emphasizes that God's purpose for us transcends spiritual endeavors alone. Discover how joy-filled lives can be a powerful witness to the world and learn how embodying this joy can inspire societal change. Tune in to rediscover what it means to disciple nations and create Christ-honoring cultures that embody the character of the living God.
