In this episode I'm joined by Lewis Ambrose to look back at Tuesday night's 1-0 win over Chelsea in the Carabao Cup semi-final second leg. We discuss Chelsea's approach to a game they had to score in, and their decision to essentially nullify the game for an hour, giving them less time to find a goal. Was this an understandable tactical approach from Liam Rosenior, or something of a misstep. We also chat about how Arsenal dealt with the game, leaning into our defensive solidity, before scoring what was a very enjoyable goal right at the end through Kai Havertz to absolutely ensure our pathway to a Wembley final next month. As well as that, there's discussion of what this trophy might mean for the team and the fans after so long without tangible success, and lots more besides. In this episode we look back at the 4-0 win over Leeds at Elland Road on Saturday. We chat about the team selection which saw Kai Havertz start, and help bring a different kind of dynamic to the team's midfield set-up, with Declan Rice and Martin Zubimendi playing distinct roles too. We also discuss Noni Madueke, a late call-up after Bukayo Saka's warm-up injury, and his contribution with an assist and a belatedly awarded goal. In the second half Viktor Gyokeres missed a chance but also tucked one away well, there were important cameos off the bench from Martin Odegaard, Gabriel Martinelli and Gabriel Jesus, and a resounding win was made more impactful by the points Man City dropped yesterday. In part 2 we have questions about Mikel Merino's injury and whether or not Arsenal will move in the market before this evening's deadline, potential beneficiaries of the Spaniard's absence, Declan Rice, Ethan Nwaneri, tomorrow's night Carabao Cup semi-final, and lots more. A very enjoyable weekend of football in the Premier League that included comebacks, momentum shifts and late drama and some FPL haulers too in the likes of (substitute) Joao Pedro and the Liverpool pair of Florian Wirtz and Hugo Ekitike. Pedro and other Chelsea assets will take on greater appeal should they overturn their Carabao Cup deficit at Arsenal. The team that progresses now has a confirmed Double Gameweek in 26 and that may influence forthcoming moves with both have attractive fixtures this weekend too. But Chelsea were given a big scare against West Ham, The Blues completed one of a number of comebacks this weekend, as did Liverpool against Newcastle and Tottenham showed fight to come back from two down against Manchester City, who slipped further behind Arsenal. Whilst Manchester United let their own two goal advantage slip, but still won, with Bruno Fernandes again returning well for those who captained him, and he's likely to be even more popular this forthcoming weekend. All the games covered as usual and all the key FPL points deliberated. Champions League top eight qualification and the gap to the Premier League leaders down to four points... You'd have to say that's a pretty good week for Manchester City, all told. David Mooney is joined by Joe Butterfield from The City Ramble and Adam Carter from StatCity.co.uk to discuss the wins over Wolves and Galatasaray. That being said, there's a couple of bogey teams up next in the league at a pair of grounds that are, frankly, cursed when City go to visit... So how will that picture look in a couple of weeks? Jack from Rule The Roost joins the show to tell us about Spurs this season so far, plus we'll look ahead to next week's Carabao Cup semifinal second leg with Newcastle. And as the squad continues to evolve, we discuss Oscar Bobb's departure and the options in the team for the final months of the season following some key players returning to fitness to join the two new signings.==========To get more podcasts or to listen without the ads, join our Patreon. In this episode I'm joined by Phil Costa to look back on Wednesday's 3-2 win over Chelsea in the Carabao Cup semi-final first leg at Stamford Bridge. We chat about the early goal which silenced some noisy home fans, and a relatively even first half, before Viktor Gyokeres got a much needed goal to make it 2-0. We discuss the goal we conceded before making it 3-1, and the chances we missed to go further ahead before they got another goal back. We analyse some individual performances, like Martin Zubimendi and William Saliba, and look at this is as a positive result which could have been even better, but which leaves us with some work to do in the second leg. All that, and lots more.Get extra bonus content and help support Arseblog by becoming an Arseblog Member on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/arseblog Hosted on Acast. Jimmy Conrad, Charlie Davies, and Tony Meola start off by checking Johnny Cardoso's World Cup stock following his first 90-minute shift for Atlético Madrid. What did it tell us about his chances of making the roster? The guys also unpack Christian Pulisic's frustrating outing against Fiorentina, and whether the arrival of Niclas Füllkrug at Milan could help to unlock the American. Then comes a special surprise as Benjamin Cremaschi joins the show and is presented with U.S. Soccer's Young Male Player of the Year award. Benja reflects on his standout performances at the U-20 World Cup, the support of his family, settling into life at Parma, and the surreal experience of sharing a locker room with Lionel Messi. The crew turns its attention to a wild MLS offseason. Can Tata Martino revive Atlanta United? Why did San Jose allow Cristian Espinoza to walk on a free? And is Timo Werner really the answer to replace him? Call It What You Want is available for free on the Audacy app as well as Apple Podcasts, Spotify and wherever else you listen to podcasts. Chelsea lose 3-2 at home to Arsenal in the Carabao Cup semi-final first leg, but somehow remain very much alive in the tie. Manny and Simon review a chaotic night at Stamford Bridge where a heavily rotated Chelsea side managed to keep the deficit to one goal, despite Arsenal fielding a near full-strength XI and failing to take full advantage. The hosts break down the key moments that cost Chelsea — silly defensive mistakes, Robert Sánchez's errors, and once again a lack of discipline and basic fundamentals that continue to undermine the team. While the result wasn't ideal, the lads discuss why Chelsea can still believe heading into the second leg.Attention then turns to a massive Premier League West London derby at home to Brentford on Saturday. With pressure mounting and performances still inconsistent, can Chelsea respond in front of their own fans?

Episode 162 — Advantage Arsenal: Narrow First Leg Win After a Dominant Performance at Stamford Bridge in the Carabao Cup Semi-FinalThe boys are back as Gav, Ells and special guest JJ react to Arsenal's first-leg victory over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in the Carabao Cup semi-final — a night that delivered control, chances, and a narrow advantage that perhaps didn't reflect the balance of play. The discussion begins with Arsenal's approach to the tie, including selection choices, goalkeeper debate, and how the team set the tone early. With Arsenal dominating large stretches of the first half, the panel explore why a strong performance failed to translate into a more commanding scoreline, touching on chance creation, shot selection, and decision-making in key moments. There's detailed analysis of Arsenal's midfield structure and evolving roles, including how balance, chemistry, and positioning continue to develop as personnel return from injury. The conversation also examines set-piece execution, attacking movement, and what different striker profiles bring to Arsenal's play — particularly in moments where control needs to become separation.Defensively, the episode breaks down the goals conceded, game management in knockout football, and how small errors can shift momentum even during dominant spells. Goalkeeper involvement, box control, and recovery actions are all discussed as Arsenal once again navigate fine margins in a semi-final setting. In the second half, focus turns forward. The panel preview Arsenal's upcoming trip to Nottingham Forest, discussing defensive availability, workload management, and how Arsenal should approach a fixture shaped as much by desperation as quality. There's also discussion around key Premier League matches elsewhere, including the Manchester derby and Tottenham vs West Ham, and what those results could mean in the wider title picture. The episode closes with the Who Am I? game, featuring a former Arsenal forward whose career took him across Europe — and prompts a few nostalgic reflections along the way.A first-leg advantage secured, questions still to answer, and a season entering a defining stretch.Chapters:(00:00) - Arteta's Non-Negotiables Intro(00:50) - Chelsea Semi-Final Context & Selection Decisions(02:35) - Goalkeeper Debate: Structure, Crosses & Build-Up Play(04:20) - Fast Start & Early Pressure at Stamford Bridge(05:06) - 0-1 | Set-Piece Breakthrough and Corner Execution(07:12) - Missed Chances & Shot Selection Frustrations(11:41) - Midfield Balance, Roles & Chemistry Questions(16:49) - First-Half Control Without Separation(18:12) - 0-2 | Gyökeres Finish and Box Presence(21:11) - Attacking Relationships & Service to the Striker(23:15) - 1-2 | Momentum Shift & Defensive Breakdown(26:13) - Garnacho's Face / Most Disliked Players(27:40) - 1-3 | Zubimendi's Goal and Game Control(29:16) - Refereeing, Game Management & Discipline(31:04) - Missed Chances to Kill the Tie(31:44) - 2-3 | Late Goal Conceded & Narrow First-Leg Margin(33:55) - Full-Time Reflection, Stats & First-Leg Takeaways(37:22) - PT.2 Who Am I?
