What's up, dudes? I've got Anthony Caruso from ‘Tis the Podcast and Jeremy Phelps the Alamo City Santa with me to dig into Charles Schulz's Peanuts. That's right! It's the 1974 special It's the Easter Beagle, Charlie Brown! Released on VHS in 1986, the gang tries to decorate eggs and prepare for the holiday shenanigans of the title character. Oh, Linus! Silly goose! In one of the Christmasy Easter specials ever, Peppermint Patty tries to teach Marcie how to dye eggs, but Marcie keep cooking the eggs in different ways and spoils their plans. Meanwhile, Woodstock needs a new house because his nest gets flooded. He and Snoopy head to the store to get a new birdhouse.Christmas decorations are already on sale at the store when Sally, Lucy, Linus, and Charlie Brown head there to get some new Easter shoes and other supplies. The entire store is decked out for Christmas Linus tells Sally about the Easter Beagle who dances in to town and delivers eggs. Inevitably, Snoopy does indeed deliver eggs to the kids, much to the chagrin of Lucy, who had previously boiled, painted, and hid said eggs. Dancing dog? Check. Clueless egg-dying friend? Yep. Christmas creep? The best kind!! So grab your eggs, buy a birdhouse, and  complain about Christmas decorations before Easter with this episode on “It's the Easter Beagle, Charlie Brown!”‘Tis the PodcastFB: @tisthepodTwitter: @tisthepodIG: @tisthepodcastGive us a buzz! The history and invention of Peppermint Patty Day dates way back centuries ago. Historically, the making of this bundle of deliciousness started in the Quiggin family, who made the first production of the patty on the Isle of Man, a Northern Irish Sea island in the year 1840. Commercial production of Peppermint Patty proliferated and spread across to other regional in 1900. The most remarkable of these companies was York Cone Company, whose first production called the York peppermint patty became renowned from 1940 till 1972 when Peter Paul bought the company and sold the product for another five years before merging with Cadbury in 1975...until Hershey bought the peppermint patty in 1988.

So I decided to expand on a few of these with a little mini series about Christmas traditions all around the world. You can find the entire series here. Welcome Alexandra! In our conversation today, Alexandra who grew up near the oldest town in Norway, established in 898, shares absolutely delightful memories of ancient Norwegian Christmas traditions that she experienced both as a child and as a mother. You may recognize these as the basis of so many American Christmas traditions and imagery – before the layers of consumerism were slapped on top. The stories Alexandra shares – and especially the beautiful way she shares them – evoke a sense of magic, calm, wonder, and peace. SynopsisMusic — Beethoven's music, in particular — played an important role in the life of Schroeder, a piano-playing character in Peanuts, the comic strip created by Charles Schulz, who was born in Minneapolis on today's date in 1922.But new music snuck in the strip on occasion, too. In a 1990 installment, Peppermint Patty is at a young person's concert and when informed that American composer Ellen Taaffe Zwilich had won the Pulitzer Prize for Music, stands up and yells, ''Way to go, Ellen!''Turns out Schulz had been impressed by a piece by Zwilich that he heard at a concert, and the cartoonist and composer struck up a friendship. So when Zwilich was asked to write a new work for a young people's concert at Carnegie Hall, the result was a suite titled Peanuts Gallery. Its 1997 premiere was acknowledged in a Sunday Peanuts strip that had Schroeder telling Lucy about the new work. “We're all in it,” he says, and goes on to list the movements, including “Schroeder's Beethoven Fantasy,” “Lullaby for Linus” and “Lucy Freaks Out.”Of course, Lucy's only comment is: “My part should be longer.''Music Played in Today's ProgramEllen Taaffe Zwilich (b. 1939) Peanuts Gallery; Jeffrey Biegel, p; Florida State University Symphony; Alexander Jiménez, cond. Marcie gets the spotlight as an introvert in new ‘Peanuts’ special

Fans may know that Charlie Brown has self-esteem issues and Lucy is opinionated, but the stewards of Charles Schulz's “Peanuts” universe have been producing specials that they hope give fans more backstory on some of their favorite, but lesser-known characters. The latest is “Snoopy Presents: One-of-a-Kind Marcie,” which focuses on Peppermint Patty's sidekick, the quiet brunette with the glasses who seems to have all the answers, but not the courage to offer them. Marcie enjoys her solitude and solving problems and wants to stay out of the spotlight. The special deals with relatable issues like how to handle pressure and not taking friends for granted, lessons that resonate with adults and kids. Executive producer Craig Schulz says his father's comic strip was never aimed specifically at kids, but adults, and the new “Peanuts” specials target both. “He never wrote the comic strip for children. And even though children could enjoy it, it really was multi-dimensional,” Craig Schulz said in a recent interview with The AP. “When we set out to do this series called ‘Snoopy Presents' on Apple TV+, our goal was to do the same thing. We wanted shows that kids could enjoy, but there was a deeper message there and we were going to hope that it would… invoke a conversation between the parent and the child after watching the episode.” The production team hired an “introvert consultant,” cognitive scientist Scott Barry Kaufman, to make sure they got the storyline right, including explaining how anxiety feels and some tools to cope with it. “He did a lot of consulting on this because, number one, we want to be really true to what an introvert is. And, you know, we didn't really understand ourselves,” Schulz said. “The inspiration for the show came from the movie ‘Hidden Figures,' you know, about the people behind the scenes in the Apollo program. And we thought, what character better represents, a hidden figure and an introvert, it would be Marcie, because poor Marcie, she's always living in the shadows of Peppermint Patty. Peppermint Patty gets all the glory,” he added. This article was provided by The Associated Press.

Andy Farnsworth joins KSL-TV to help audiences decipher #WhatToWatch for the weekend of August 18, 2023. A new superhero movie called “Blue Beetle,” featuring a mostly Latin American cast and a fresh feeling (for the most part) that really emphasizes family, is the latest offering for DC superhero fans. “Strays” is a VERY R-rated talking dog comedy with Will Ferrell & Jamie Foxx that mixes bodily function jokes way too liberally for my taste into a pretty sweet story with cute dogs. Netflix's “The Monkey King” is an animated family movie that is enjoyable if not a bit frenetic. The Sundance movie “Landscape with Invisible Hand” is not nearly as rom-com-ish as the trailer would make it seem. While Hulu's “Miguel Wants to Fight” is a comedy about a nice kid who wants to get into a fight before he moves away from his friends, that while fun, the adult language can be a bit of a downer. Amazon's studio has similar problems with “Puppy Love” starring Grant (The Flash) Gustin and Lucy (Pretty Little Liars) Hale. While the new Amazon series  “Harlan Coben's Shelter” is a young adult mystery for people with patience.  Two much more family-friendly choices: Apple's “Snoopy Presents: One-of-a-Kind Marcie” finally lets us get to know Peppermint Patty's bespectacled friend better, and the filmed-in-Utah “Aliens Abducted My Parents and Now I Feel Kinda Left Out.”  Beyond Sci-Fi, Fantasy, Gaming, and Tech, the brains behind Fan Effect are connoisseurs of categories surpassing the nerdy. Welcome to February 11th, 2023 on the National Day Calendar. Today we celebrate amazing inventors and snappy patties. James West was born in 1931 in Prince Edward County, Virginia. As a boy, he loved taking things apart and after an accident involving a radio, he discovered a curiosity for electricity. This led West to obtaining a degree in physics and a position with Bell Laboratories as an inventor. By 1968 his inexpensive, highly sensitive compact microphone was in mass production and the technology is still used in 90 percent of today's microphones as well as telephones and tape recorders. James West was inducted into the Inventors Hall of Fame in 1999 and today holds over 250 patents for his inventions. He is 91 years old and is currently a professor at Johns Hopkins University. On National Inventors' Day we celebrate the men and women who continue to inspire us with their amazing achievements.  The flavor combination of chocolate and mint has been around awhile. As early as 1840, the Quiggins brothers created a soft mint cake dipped in chocolate. And while the UK based Kendal Mint Cake Company still produces them today, the peppermint patties we love to celebrate got their start in America in 1940. At the York Cone factory inventor Henry Kessler had only one rule; the candy had to pass the snap test. If it didn't snap in two the patties were out! It's estimated that over 1.5 billion are produced each year, proving that this candy is still a fan favorite! On National Peppermint Patty Day celebrate the candy that kids still find cool.  I'm Anna Devere and I'm Marlo Anderson. Thanks for joining us as we Celebrate Every Day! So, join us this Thanksgiving, as we join Charlie Brown, Linus, Peppermint Patty, Marcie, Franklin, Snoopy, and Woodstock for some heaping helpings of buttered toast, popcorn... pretzel sticks... and jelly beans. (Also features Lucy in a particular cruel football-themed cold open, although she apparently had better things to do than spend Thanksgiving proper with the gang.)
