In part two of our five-part series on the recent National Security Crossroads event, we cover how academia plays a critical role in the defense ecosystem. The defense industry depends on connections and partnerships with high-performing academic institutions to produce their desired workforce. It's these partnerships that lay the groundwork for additional business attraction and economic growth. To discuss this further are Dr. Anthony Caruso with the University of Missouri – Kansas City, Mike Denning with the University of Kansas, Courtney Swoboda with the University of Central Missouri, Pierre Harter with Wichita State University. This panel is moderated by Sal Nodjomian with the Matrix Design Group.

What's up, dudes? It's Snow White in the ‘80s, and I've got Anthony Caruso from ‘Tis the Podcast with me to talk about it! That's right. We're talking “The Charmings” and its 1987 Christmas episode, ‘Yes, Lillian, There Is a Santa Claus!' It's Christmas time at the Charmings' household, and Lillian is Scroogier than ever. She tries to ruin their Christmas spirit with a snowstorm! The Charmings, however, turn disaster into fun, having snowball fights and building snowmen. Even the Magic Mirror is in the holiday mood. Thoroughly infuriated, Lillian tells the children that there is no Santa Claus, and is convincing enough that they believe her. Snow White begs her to do the right thing, play Santa, and get gifts for the kids anyway. Lillian has quite a shock when the real Santa arrives at the Charming house and finds no "true believers" left there. What's up, dudes? It's a fun, light hearted episode today with special guests Anthony Caruso from ‘Tis the Podcast and CM Chuck from Just Another Friday Night! That's right! We're talking the General Mills monster cereals! Officially created in 1928, General Mills traces its history back to the 1860's. Introduced in March of 1971, Count Chocula is a chocolate loving vampire designed by George Karn. His cereal, as his name suggests, was made of delicious whole grain corn chocolate flavor frosted cereal and marshmallow bits. His Bela Lugosi-inspired voice was provided by Larry Kenney for the commercials. In the 1980's Count Chocula character was re-vamped (pun intended) with a more svelte physique, a slender nose, and added shading on his clothes. New boxes were introduced, even including a set where Lugosi's Dracula chased a terrified Count Chocula.Franken Berry followed soon after in October of ‘71, also a Karn design. He is a slightly rotund pink version of Frankenstein's creature with sweet strawberry cereal and marshmallows. Voiced by Bob McFadden, he was given a Boris Karloff-style voice.Boo Berry, the blueberry flavored cereal ghost mascot, was released in 1973. His Peter Lorre-tinged voice was provided by Christmas special voice acting legend Paul Frees. Boo Berry is a blue ghost with a red bow-tie and red and yellow hat.Rounding out the cast is Frute Brute, a werewolf introduced in ‘74 and retired in ‘82, and Fruity Yummy Mummy, released in ‘88 and retired in ‘92. Both are fruit flavored cereals. In ‘85 the cereal pieces became ghost shaped, and in ‘89 bat shaped marshmallows were introduced.Hanna-Barbera vibe? Check. Three of Matt's podcasting pals join him to talk about the strange Rankin & Bass special that is "The Easter Bunny Is Coming To Town." Kind of a sequel, kind of a remake, completely weird.

Put your choppers down, that's no way to treat our special guest for our 50th podcast episode of "Enterprise Incidents!" We excited to be joined by respected entertainment journalist and acclaimed author Ed Gross, who shares his archive interview with "A Piece of the Action" director (and legendary TV producer) James Komack. A hundred years after being visited by an Earth vessel, the Enterprise arrives at the planet Sigma Iotia II, where it discovers a world steeped in chaos and run entirely by gangsters. During their investigation into the cause of this parallel culture, Captain Kirk, Mr. Spock and Dr. McCoy are captured by notorious crime boss Bela Okmyx, who wants a hundred phasers (or "heaters") to knock off the other bosses and take full control. That's when they discover the root of the contamination: a book left behind by the previous ship called "Chicago Mobs of the 1920s." In an effort to clean up their mess and unify the planet, Captain Kirk realizes that the best way to reason with the Iotians is to speak their language, which he attempts to do with often humorous results. "The Trouble with Tribbles" may be the most popular of the comedic "Star Trek" episodes, but "A Piece of the Action" is the bigger fan-favorite, because it's the coolest. It's also the most irresistible, thanks to game performances by William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy, not to mention guest stars Anthony Caruso and Vic Tayback, who are clearly having a ball. As a result, you'd be hard-pressed to find a more fun and gleefully-entertaining episode of "Star Trek" than "A Piece of the Action." In fact, the odds are astronomical -- except at night, on Tuesday. Right?
