I don't know if you're aware of this, but apparently there are online tools — artificial intelligence, if you will, that enable anyone to replace Perry Farrell in Jane's Addiction with “The Shield”'s Michael Chiklis. I know, you're saying to yourself, “nothing's shocking” but trust me on this, the results are positively chilling. I realize we're in an era of new singers being drafted in for touring purposes (strange no one has floated Chiklis as the new vocalist for The Smiths) but I don't think any of us are fully ready for the vast implications. Please try to enjoy this week's program while the world continues to get exponentially worse with each passing second.

Al rejoins the fray as the Shield does the hardest-edged soft reboot in TV history.
John and Chris should never have taken that money, man.
John and Chris are hitting the Armenian money train TONIGHT, damn it.
John and Chris are different kind of podcasters as they dig into the OTHER big antihero show of the early aughts.
Some cream of the network TV crop here, with the new Fox show Accused (available on Hulu). Michael Chiklis! Jill Henessey! Robert Wisdom! The Homeland team (Howard Gordon, Alex Gansa, Michael Cuesta)! With this collection of talent in front of and behind the camera, it stands to reason that Accused is going to be better than the average network TV crime procedural. This may also explain its surprisingly massive ratings success. If you are not in the mood for a bigger commitment like a serialized series or a film, this is a great appetizer-sized commitment with stand-alone anthology episodes. The first episode goes pretty bold with how it integrates Chiklis' character with a We Need To Talk About Kevin kind of son.Come to Watch This Tonight as your best podcast for TV recommendations. Michael Chiklis phones in to talk with Kyle Meredith about his portrayal of legendary Boston Celtics coach Red Auerbach in the HBO series Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty. The Shield actor tells us what it was like to play a hero of his as a principal antagonist as seen through the eyes of Jerry Buss and the LA Lakers, getting to spar over a great script with John C. Reilly, and how he sees Coach Auerbach as a progressive thinker in his era of basketball. Chiklis also takes us back to having the real Magic Johnson on the set of The Fantastic Four and compares his likeness to the one we see on screen as played by Quincy Isaiah. Listen to Michael Chiklis discuss Winning Time and more. Sept. 24-30: Scott Bakula is a QB and a captain, Chiklis is the Commish, Michael Douglas won't say a word, Seth Rogan is undeclared, Jennifer Garner goes undercover, hillbilly horror, Michael Shannon builds a bunker, Anthony Hopkins has the shining, Daniel Craig cracks up, Jerry Springer lowers the bar, and the greatest day in modern music history. All that and more this week on Thirty Twenty Ten, your weekly look back on the week that was 30, 20, and 10 years ago.
New episode out now! We enter the world of the 1980s with the season five episode of Miami Vice, “The Lost Madonna”. New to us all, we marveled at the wild fashions, the synth score, the feathered hair, and of course—the drugs. We really get into the Florida-ness of it all with the production design and color choices. And we talk extensively about Michael Chiklis’ ponytail. Katy critiques art packing techniques, Carrie thinks Don Johnson is very symmetrical, Maddy has started to see older people commercials tailored for her, and Mack tells a eulogy story. We also spoil St. Elsewhere, share college professor anecdotes, get excited about Indiana Jones, learn about product placement, and wonder why all Italian mafia members have a New York accent. We do introduce a new point of order in this episode and Katy is (justifiably) chastened for dominating research. And if you stick around after the end music, you’ll get a special treat! (A short interview with our parents re: Miami Vice that has terrible audio and random microwave beeping). Enjoy! A brief summary of this episode
FM #393 = This is the Franklin Matters radio show, number 393 in the series. This shares my interview and discussion with Town Council candidate Greg Chiklis. Our discussion was conducted via conference bridge to adhere to the ‘social distancing’ requirements of this pandemic period. Franklin, MA voters should be aware that there will be a special election (per Town Charter) to fill the seat recently vacated by Eamon McCarthy Earls. He left at the beginning of Sept to enter law school in Virginia. The special election is scheduled for Saturday, December 5, 2020 to meet the 90 day requirement of the Charter. Greg chose to tell his story in his way and along the course of the discussion we did touch on all the questions to provide a fair set of information for the Franklin voters. - By way of introducing yourself to the Franklin voters, what is your Franklin story? - The Community Preservation Act is on the November ballot, what do you think of it? - What degree of development do you feel is appropriate for Franklin and how would you balance the need for affordable housing with the need to avoid congestion, some of which we already have? - The Town Administrator suggested in 2019 that Franklin needed to consider an override measure. The pandemic hit, that didn’t happen. The water rate and trash/recycling rate increased. Stormwater utility fee is up for consideration for implementation on/about July 2021. And yet, the operational budget both school and town side of the budget is challenged. How do you approach this financial situation? - What do you say to the voter who asks: Why should I vote for you? - Anything else to add that we did not cover? The recording runs about 29 minutes, so let’s listen to my conversation with Town Council candidate Greg Chiklis. -------------- Greg Chiklis’ Campaign link https://www.facebook.com/GRCFTC And Contact info grchik0712@gmail.com , Phone = 774 291-9544 -------------- We are now producing this in collaboration with Franklin.TV and Franklin Public Radio (wfpr.fm) or 102.9 on the Franklin area radio dial. NYU graduate Julie Benz has worked, developing a career that has ridden high waves as a series regular on several TV shows...but she still auditions and LOVES it. By the time Julie Benz was 16 years old she had retired from her professional career as a figure skater due to an injury and was dragged by her Mom to her first audition. Julie got cast in the play and loved it. But Julie didn't feel like she was a "natural" at acting and enrolled at the drama department at NYU, plus took additional acting classes in the city to get more experience. When NYU tried to kick her out for auditioning for a pilot, a tenured teacher put her reputation on the line and said she would quit teaching if Julie was kicked out of the program. Three years later, Julie graduated NYU and ran to Hollywood. Julie isn't a prude, but she insists there must be a financial transaction to see her in a bikini. This smart and savvy woman stands her ground and respects her craft, yet will bravely put her raw "makeup free" heart and soul into an audition. Listen in to hear how accepting Vampire Girl #1 for Buffy the Vampire Slayer impacted her career and set the foundation of being on a short list for studios. Here she shares her "most favorite things" about acting, auditioning and The Secret gratitude journal. Julie Benz currently can be seen critically acclaimed show Dexter, Defiance, Hawaii Five-0 and constant reruns of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. In celebration of Elton John's biopic (bye-op-ick?), we waded into the most tasteless one, perhaps of all time: Wired. WHO IS THIS MOVIE FOR? Why do they hate Belushi SO MUCH? How did Chiklis end up having a career? Why is it just SO TASTELESS? Plus, Tripp hates all biopics, we talk wigs and so much more! The boys are shocked to once again find a film that's not nearly as bad as its reputation. Not only do we not think 2005's Fantastic Four is an awful movie, we actually quite enjoyed it. Mostly well cast and fairly well written, the film very closely captures the spirit of the original Jack Kirby & Stan Lee comic book. Also in this episode, the guys discuss the new Star Wars trailer, Jeff Goldblum and the Jurassic World sequel, upcoming plans for the website and Gerald's oft discussed spin-off pod, the Pixelated Pictures Podcast, and the upcoming Unbreakable/Split sequel. Today's Guest: Michael Chiklis, star, "No Ordinary Family," "The Shield," "The Commish," and as John Belushi in Wired and as Ben Grimm/The Thing in Fantastic Four Michael Chiklis, the star of ABC’s new superhero dramedy “No Ordinary Family” knows a thing or three about playing a hero. His first ABC series, "The Commish," featured Chiklis as a police commissioner, the kind that kids looked up to and donut shop owners enjoyed supporting in their neighborhoods. MICHAEL CHIKLIS audio excerpt: "We don't know what we're going to be able to achieve from a technical standpoint at the end of this season. The special effects are constantly leaping forward exponentially. The sky's the limit. Literally. I could definitely see 'No Ordinary Family' going out in 3-D. After that? I guess it's hologram. I'll be projected in the middle of your living room instead of on the wall." And what greater superhero is there than Ben Grimm, the rocky “Thing” that Chiklis portrayed in two live-action movies about the original Marvel Comics superheroes, the Fantastic Four. He’s also played two classic anti-heroes, Detective Vic Mackey in the critically acclaimed FX series “The Shield” and John Belushi in the controversial biopic, Wired. In some ways, "No Ordinary Family" is a mashup of all those roles, mixing humor, a family sensibility and superpowers into 60 minutes of entertainment every Tuesday night at 8 p.m. If you haven’t seen it yet, watch the pilot on ABC.com. It’s way cooler than you might have expected, with sharp writing, clever twists and an occasional nod and a wink to comics fans.
At San Diego Comic Con, Jimmy sat in on the roundtables for Gotham. Among the cast/creative participants were Ben McKenzie, Morena Baccarin, Corey Michael Smith, Michael Chiklis, Sean Pertwee, Drew Powell and Producer John Stephens. NOW It's Time For A Move Commentary! Greetings from the Olympic Park in Stratford, London! Steve is away helping people with mobility issues to move around the park, sneaking into events, and meeting Oscar Pistorius. Andrew's enjoying the last dregs of his holiday. Between us, we've had minimal editing time, so we thought we'd take a different tack with this week's show. Instead of working through a couple of issues of Fantastic Four and Strange Tales, we thought we'd sit down and watch Fantastic Four (2005), and record a commentary. Join us as we journey through the team's first (released) cinematic outing and see how we feel about the film seven years after its release. We also take a brief moment to evaluate the upcoming Marvel NOW (not a) reboot of the Fantastic Four titles. No emails or trailers this time around, but we'll be devoting a bit of time on the next episode to catch up on our mailbag, so do send your comments and thoughts on the show, the comics, or even the film to fantastic4podcast@gmail.com
