With haunting and ethereal songs that masterfully delve into the depths of ferocious love, heartbreaking loss and steadfast hope, the debut album, Dangerous Love, by new duo Bowen Young unveils a unique style of music the couple has dubbed “Cinematic Americana.” Bowen Young's timeless debut record created by Clare Bowen and husband Brandon Robert Young is a multi-sensory feast. The music, produced by Sean McConnell, invokes themes painted by the duo's powerfully authentic lyrics and hypnotic harmonies. Clare, the charismatic actress who played Scarlett O'Connor in the popular show Nashville, is known as a ray of sunshine around the world. She is an empath who leads with her heart, able to communicate and translate emotions whether on stage or screen. Born in rural Australia, she moved to Music City in 2012 for the Nashville role and immediately earned respect from the city's musical leaders. She has performed with artists such as Vince Gill, Zac Brown Band, working with Grammy Award winning producers/songwriters T-Bone Burnett, Colin Linden and Buddy Miller, who became her mentors. She toured her eponymous album for sold-out crowds with Brandon in Germany, Australia, the US and UK. The pair also earned a coveted spot on Sugarland's popular “Still the Same Tour” and toured live with the Nashville cast, selling out London's O2 Arena. Brandon, who began singing at age five under the gentle guidance of his mother, had a very different upbringing and path to Nashville. In 2000, he moved from Enfield, CT, to Nashville, where he taught himself to play guitar. He worked as a courier during the day and spent his nights filling empty composition books with song after song. He spent a decade touring with music legend John Hiatt, first as percussionist and background vocalist and eventually becoming one third of The John Hiatt Trio. He worked on three of the famed artist's albums, the last of which was nominated for a Grammy in the Americana category. Brandon has collaborated with Grammy Award-winning artists Emmylou Harris, Colin Linden, and Mikky Ekko. Young was also invited by John Carter Cash to finish one of his father's unpublished works for Johnny Cash Forever Words. Brandon's music has been heard in shows such as Shameless. A Million Little Things, and Nashville. It was serendipity that brought Bowen Young together in 2013, when Brandon was a last-minute replacement for Clare's no-show duet partner for her first solo set at Nashville's Bridgestone Arena. They immediately discovered they had wonderful chemistry both onstage and off. Brandon proposed to Clare at the Ryman Auditorium during the couple's Grand Ole Opry set in 2015. We had the pleasure of interviewing BOWEN * YOUNG LIVE from The Twisted Wool Lounge at the Historic Woolworth Theatre in Nashville! Most partners, in theory, will promise the world to keep each other safe and sound, but rarely is their vow necessary in everyday practice. However, when husband and wife duo BOWEN * YOUNG—singer/songwriters Clare Bowen and Brandon Robert Young—found themselves in the midst of a terrifying home invasion, the pair stared down the prospect of being separated, or worse, during a very real situation. Just two days later, without sleep and lacking creativity, BOWEN * YOUNG sat down with their friend and producer Sean McConnell and shared what they'd just been through. After several hours, the glimmer of an idea took hold of Bowen, just as McConnell picked up a guitar and said, “What if it goes a little something like this?” In less than an hour, the chilling story had been shaped into a song, and “Dangerous Love” was born. “Somewhere, deep in the conversation, Clare offered up an idea that was perfectly beautiful in the moment, revolving around the most harrowing part of the whole event,” remembers Young. “...The prospect of one of us being taken away from the other, just because one cruel individual decided it should be so.”The end result is a beautifully dark love song; an ode to just how far true-lovers are willing to go for each other. “Each time we play it is cathartic and healing,” says Young. “Each time we play it we love each other a little bit more. This event was just one part of our story, but it affected us deeply, and the trauma therapy we've done to recover has been one of the best gifts we could have given ourselves and each other. We can't undo what was done to us, but we can, through spreading awareness of how important it is to take care of your mental health, strive to turn that individual's cruelty into another person's healing.”More About BOWEN * YOUNG: Bowen Young's timeless debut record created by Clare Bowen and husband Brandon Robert Young is a multi-sensory feast. Opportunities don't come from playing it safe or waiting until you become perfect and everything is right. Sometimes you have to trust it, do your absolute best, believe in yourself, bring the best work forward, and see what happens.Sometimes, the things that we think are perfect don't always turn out to be great. Sometimes, it's the gig, job, or song that you see as not ideal or unappealing that is going to push you to do the next level or the best work of your life.Great opportunities don't usually come dressed as you expect them to be, and no matter how appealing or unappealing an opportunity looks, you will never know where it can lead you until you say yes to it. Saying yes to an opportunity and giving it your best is where the magic happens. Judging opportunities and thinking of them as less than ideal is an excuse for not giving your best effort.Stop worrying about making everything perfect, and start giving your best to every opportunity. Any opportunity is great if you believe in yourself and give it the best shot.To thrive, you must be willing to take risks and be open to doing the best work you can. The worst thing you can do is shy away from a great opportunity because it doesn't seem like the perfect one. Just go for it and see what happens. You might end up having the most incredible time; if not, you will learn from it, and either way, it was worth the effort. In this episode, Clare Bowen and Brandon Robert Young, a husband-and-wife duo singing group, talk about how to build your career, set boundaries, and succeed as an artist and entrepreneur. “Empathy and compassion are big, and you have to hold on to them as an artist.”Snapshot of the Key Points from the Episode:[03:47] Clare and Brandon share how they became a great singing duo and, more importantly, husband and wife.[11:22] How to stop playing it safe and stepping out even when you feel it's not your ideal gig or perfect timing[15:30] What led Clare to be called for the nationals despite being shy, introverted, and coming from a small town in Australia and her experience? [19:06] Clare and Brandon's favorite and most memorable performances. [23:54] The superpowers that have helped Clare and Brandon navigate and achieve success in their career. [28:44] How do Clare and Brandon build and maintain their fan base to be successful in what they do?[38:02] How do Clare and Brandon navigate the business and creative side of their day-to-day career?[46:44] What does working from your happy place mean to Clare and Brandon?[50:20] Clare and Brandon's advice to young people starting out their career in arts and anyone who is setting out to do something greater than themselves.[57:39] The importance of rising beyond expectations and being kind to yourself. Imogen has been writing and performing songs since she was fourteen years old, starting out the way most musicians do - in local pubs.  Imogen's inspirations are artists such as Bruce Springsteen, Joni Mitchell, Gang of Youths, and Phoebe Bridgers.  Imogen has toured across Europe, the US, the UK, and across Australia. She has collaborated with artists such as Alex Lahey, Clare Bowen, Emma Swift, Anita Lester, Colin Hay, Taylor Goldsmith, Jason Boesel, Tom Petty, Pete Thomas. She has supported Shania Twain and has worked with Mark Lizotte (Johnny Deisel) who also produced her 2018 album Collide.  A hard-working and passionate artist, don't look away for even a minute.  In the episode we discuss everything from our dogs (sorry), the havoc the pandemic has wreaked on the entertainment industry, her family's response when she told them straight out of Year 12 that she was going to pursue music as a career, living in the Blue Mountains, the sincerity of writing music from the perspective of a third person, her identity as an artist, where to draw inspiration from when you can't travel, the struggle of women in maintaining their relevance in the entertainment industr, using your name as your brand (as a result of this conversation I got the guts to use my own name on this podcast) and yeah basically everything, we covered everything. The creative headspace, bro's ruining dates, and new music with Clare Bowen (ABC's and CMT's Nashville) and Caroline Spence.  Caroline and I tap into her latest release, Mint Condition. Then Clare shares thoughts on cancer, living in Australia, the LGBTQ community, her TV experience, and releasing her self titled debut album.    Having won numerous songwriting awards, it's safe to say Caroline Spence is a songwriting wizard. Caroline and I share a fellow songwriting acquaintance and then soon we're off diving into her latest release, Mint Condition. As we're taping into the specifics of words and the power a pronoun we begin to understand the landscape of the project. Having gone through some of our favorite instances in the album, we get on the topic of living inside your head as a creative. Is this the catalyst of anxiety? If we didn't work in our heads would we feel may be more "normal"? What most people might see as a personal flaw, we should embrace though. By sharing the heart of your self and inner feelings in a song, we discover is our greatest gift to the world. Visit  for everything and follow her @carolinespence_.   Some might know Clare Bowen after the success of ABC's Nashville as the character Scarlett O'Connor, but that shouldn't slow her down as an artist in her own right. The Australian actress that we might know sits down to talk about her battle with cancer at a very young age, sharing insight into the creation of her latest record, and we talk about the music from her self titled debut. Produced by Josh Kaufman (The National, Bob Weir), Clare Bowen's album also features Buddy Miller and songwriters Lori McKenna, Brandon Robert Young, Nathan Chapman, Stephanie Lambring, and Caroline Spence. An album 5 years in the making, because of production schedules, is an introduction to who Clare Bowen is personally. Clare also is an advocate of many things. She shares the origin of taking up arms with the LBGTQ community and her passion for food. Not to mention we tackle loneliness. The idea of capturing your thoughts and feelings like loneliness and sharing it with the world can be really vulnerable. But once it's out, you begin to realize that you're not lonely at all. Her album is out now on all platforms, and you can also visit  for tour dates and updates. You can follow her @clarembee on Instagram.

Episode 85 - Lauren Balthrop. Dan Sterenchuk and Tommy Estlund are honored to have as our guest, Lauren Balthrop. Lauren Balthrop – Alabama grown, New York tested, and Nashville bound – quiets even the loudest room. Balthrop's debut album, This Time Around produced by Josh Kaufman (Bob Weir, The National, Craig Finn, Clare Bowen, Trixie Whitley, Amy Helm, Hiss Golden Messenger), is beguiling in its honesty, rich in dark sonic beauty and above all, devilishly playful. This Time Around chronicles the story of an uprooted soul. Feeling spun out of orbit, tumbling, accidents, and loss of control are recurring themes yet Balthrop finds solace in the chaos of love. There is a sneaky confidence in Balthrop's vocals – all honey and soaring – almost as if she feels most at ease when her heart is dizzy. Each track on the album oscillates between the moodiness of experimental dark folk instrumentation, and the levity of Balthrop's crystal-fueled voice. From the magical realism and twisted fairy tale-nature of “Maple Tree” to the fuzzed out guitar of “Don't Ever Forget,” and the drunken carousel-esque swooning of “Tumbleweed,” This Time Around is the poster child for rich, subversive pop music. At times Balthrop hits Beatles-like pop hooks and harmonies, and beats that would make Petty nod from the heavens. “We Fell” stands out as one of the most spare and beautiful tracks, inspired by the twilight of a relationship. The song is a somber waltz, lamenting the way lovers gamble their hearts, repeatedly. Kaufman and Balthrop have plenty of production tricks up their sleeves: a tambourine begins to rattle like a shackled ghost; these songs never behave like they should. This Time Around is not overtly a political statement, but it's impossible not to make a connection between the current global instability and Balthrop's thematic focus on feeling spun out of orbit. The opening track, “Down,” was initially written as a response to political uncertainty and morphed from protest to love song. Balthrop holds love as the party line throughout, and her heart's never-ending quest can be re-read as a pro-peace battle cry. “When I'm on my death bed,” Balthrop says, “the only questions I will ask myself are: how did I love, how much, and could I have loved more?” This Time Around is a profound statement on finding beauty in chaos and refusing to hide your heart. Above all, Balthrop insists that we dance, especially when it's dark. With Balthrop at the helm, This Time Around features an all-star cast: Peter Lalish (Lucius, Uni Ika Ai) on guitar, Jason Lawrence on drums (Jesse Marchant, The Building), Josh Kaufman on bass, Karen Waltuch (Wilco) on strings, Elizabeth Ziman (Elizabeth & the Catapult) on backing vocals, Annie Nero (A. Nero) on backing vocals, Lucas Madrazo (Inland Traveler) on backing vocals, Maia Friedman (Uni Ika Ai, Dirty Projectors) on backing vocals and Tom Krueger on backing vocals. Episode 137 - As bad as it sounds, we’re happy Taylor Swift didn’t have friends in middle school. In Episode 137 of Taylor Talk: The Taylor Swift Podcast, we discuss one of the first songs Taylor ever wrote, “The Outside.” In “The Outside,” Taylor talks about what it’s like to be on the outside looking in, a feeling everyone can relate to at least one point in their lives. However, there is hope. Taylor’s story is proof that even though you may feel like an outcast, what makes you different makes you special. The very same kids who made fun of Taylor for liking country music now get to look up at her performing on stage in front of thousands of people. Enjoy the episode! Highlights from Episode 137 of Taylor Talk: The Taylor Swift Podcast Main Discussion – “The Outside” Song Analysis: - At twelve years old, Taylor captures the timeless aspect of being an outcast in “The Outside” - Adam says this song could really be a theme song for Facebook users. - Taylor draws from a Robert Frost poem to inspire the lyrics in this song. We wonder how many other times Taylor has drawn from outside sources in her writing. - “If you’re lucky enough to be different, don’t change.” Wise words from Ms. Swift. - We talk about the similarities between “Mean” and “The Outside.” Other Topics: - Taylor doesn’t just passively donate to charity; instead, she creates something awesome, like a music production cart for the patients at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia!  - The RED Tour, aka the tour that never ends, will actually end this week! - You know you’re a swifty when you’re already saving money for a concert on a tour that hasn’t been announced for an album that hasn’t even been announced! - Swifties are listening to “Black Roses” by Clare Bowen.

Hey everybody!  I'm Jennifer Vickery… so glad you’ve joined us for another Inside Music Row.  We've got a great show for you today, so let’s get started.  Well, four decades of history making moments are certainly worth celebrating!  That’s why the Grand Ole Opry pulled out all the stops to celebrate forty years at the Opry House.  Lots of artists were on hand for the special evening, including Blake Shelton, Miranda Lambert, Bill Anderson, Josh Turner, and many more.  This celebration leads into next year’s ninety-year anniversary of the Opry, which started as the W-S-M Barn Dance in a small studio in downtown Nashville.   From a guy who knows a lot about living life…John Rich has launched a new lifestyle brand called Redneck Riviera.  After spending years in research and development, John believes it’s not just a place, but more a state of mind to enjoy the laid-back, carefree beach lifestyle.  You’ll find the new merchandise available in outlets everywhere this spring, as well as online at Redneck Riviera dot com.    The final sessions from Country Music Hall of Fame Icon Ray Price will hit shelves April 15th.  “Beauty Is…” features Ray’s timeless sounds, along with duets with Vince Gill and Martina McBride.  Ray passed away last December.   The St. Jude Country Music Marathon is set to take over downtown Nashville for the 15th annual road race.  The April 26th run will feature a new start line and course, but will retain its traditional musical theme.  More than 30-thousand runners are expected for this year’s event, all helping to raise about two-million dollars for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.  Look for Chip Esten and Clare Bowen from ABC’s hit show “Nashville” to headline the post-race concert, with rising star Chase Rice set to open.   Hunter Hayes has an ambitious plan to help end Child Hunger.  He’s planning on breaking a Guiness world record and promoting awareness of child hunger by playing ten shows in ten cities in less than twenty-four hours.  This unique ‘tour’ kicks off May ninth with a performance on Good Morning America and wraps in Philadelphia at five A-M the next morning.  Hunter is currently out on his “We’re Not Invisible” tour, and getting ready to release his new “Storyline” album May sixth.   Now it's time to go “Inside The Song.”  Rock group Black Stone Cherry co-wrote a song for their 20-11 album “Between The Devil and The Deep Blue Sea” called “Stay.”  Some of their other writing buddies got hold of that and wanted it for their debut project, and it didn’t take long for Florida Georgia Line to take their version of “Stay” to number one.  We caught up with Black Stone Cherry to hear how that all came together.
