Do you fear rejection when initiating sex with your wife? Do you lie next to her at night wanting to reach out but then convince yourself not to because you hate being turned down? Or maybe you still try but the reaction from her is so painful...? In this episode I talk about the perfect time to initiate sex with your wife or girlfriend and why it changes everything in all areas of your life too.In our coaching, we help men get a powerful new mindset that empowers you to give, love and connect more deeply because you're finally doing that within yourself first. This mindset allows empathy, trust and connection to happen because you're confident in who you're being. We teach skills and knowledge that nobody ever teaches men when we're younger. Skills and knowledge that make you feel confident and in control even when chaos is going on around you. It's amazing what you can achieve when you make yourself a priority. Most men don't. They are too busy taking care of everyone else. Too busy minding the store and making the money. They are focused on the "outside game" of winning life. But their "inside game" of confidence and clarity is suffering badly. You can only improve your inside game with other men. We would love to help you become more calm, more strong emotionally and more confident and happy in who you are as a man. Come and join us, either through 1-on-1 coaching with my colleague Dan Dore or me, or in our group coaching program with other amazing men who are travelling the same path as you right now in our Men's Live Coaching Roundtable. Join Joe McDonald as he explores the process of outgrowing fear and overcoming financial insecurity through Steps 10 and 11 of Alcoholics Anonymous. Joe shares a powerful insight—that we don't simply escape financial insecurity by stopping bad behaviors, but by living through challenges, taking personal responsibility, and weathering whatever comes our way. He emphasizes that while we may stop doing bad things, bad things can still happen, but we can be free despite them. Joe also reflects on how, through spiritual growth, we begin to intuitively handle situations that once baffled us.In Alcoholics Anonymous, Step 10 calls for continued self-inventory, while Step 11 encourages deepening our connection to our Higher Power. Joe reminds us that by trusting the process and facing our fears, we can live freely and intuitively, no matter what challenges come our way.To support and learn from journeys like Joe McDonald, please like, comment, and share. Introduction Opening Hook: Discuss how common it is to feel intimidated when walking into a gym, especially for newcomers or those returning after a long break. Goal of Episode: Help listeners understand and overcome “gymtimidation” by breaking down its causes, sharing practical tips, and empowering them to build confidence in any fitness space. Why This Matters: When people feel intimidated, it can prevent them from starting or staying consistent with their fitness journey. Conquering these feelings is the first step toward lasting health and wellness. Segment 1: What Is “Gymtimidation” and Why Does It Happen? Define Gymtimidation: Explain that “gymtimidation” is the anxiety or intimidation people feel in a gym setting, often due to fear of judgment, unfamiliarity with equipment, or lack of experience. Common Causes: Fear of Judgment: Worried others are watching or judging your form, appearance, or fitness level. Equipment Overwhelm: Not knowing how to use machines or weights properly. Self-Comparison: Feeling insecure next to more experienced or fitter gym-goers. Personal Stories: Briefly share any personal experiences with gymtimidation (or examples) to make the topic relatable. Segment 2: Strategies to Conquer Gymtimidation 1. Start with a Plan Explanation: Having a plan eliminates wandering and builds confidence because you know what exercises to do and in what order. How to Implement: Suggest options like following an app, finding a workout plan online, or working with a trainer to build a routine. 2. Choose the Right Gym Environment Explanation: Different gyms have different vibes. Finding one that matches your comfort level (e.g., beginner-friendly, women-only spaces, etc.) can make a big difference. How to Implement: Research gyms in your area, take advantage of trial memberships, or even try virtual workouts to ease in. 3. Focus on Small Goals Over Big Transformations Explanation: Setting small, achievable goals (e.g., getting through a full workout, learning one new machine) helps build momentum and confidence. How to Implement: Share examples of small wins that listeners can aim for, like increasing weight on a lift or completing a full workout with proper form. 4. Go with a Friend or Accountability Partner Explanation: Having a gym buddy can make workouts more enjoyable and reduce intimidation. They can provide support, and having someone familiar around can ease nerves. How to Implement: Offer tips for finding a workout partner (friends, family, or through social media) or joining group classes where there's a sense of community. 5. Remember That No One's Really Watching Explanation: Most people at the gym are focused on their own workouts, not on what others are doing. This is a big mindset shift that can help reduce anxiety. How to Implement: Suggest practicing this mindset shift by observing others' focus in the gym or even trying headphones or mindfulness techniques to stay grounded. Segment 3: Turning Gym Anxiety into Gym Confidence Reframe the Gym as a Learning Opportunity: See each workout as a chance to learn and grow, regardless of where you are in your fitness journey. Take Advantage of Resources: Most gyms offer orientation sessions or have trainers available to help with equipment. Encourage listeners to ask questions—they're often surprised at how approachable gym staff can be. Celebrate Progress, Not Perfection: Reinforce that fitness is about progress over time, not immediate results. Even small improvements are wins! Listener Challenge Challenge of the Week: Encourage listeners to step outside their comfort zone—whether it's trying one new piece of equipment, asking for a trainer's help, or going to the gym during a busier time. Share Their Experience: Ask listeners to share their progress or “firsts” on social media and tag the podcast, or message in with their experiences of conquering gymtimidation. Conclusion Recap of Key Points: Reiterate that gymtimidation is common, but manageable with the right mindset and tools. Final Encouragement: Empower listeners to see the gym as a space for growth, not judgment, and to embrace their fitness journey at their own pace. It's that pesky little voice in your head that whispers, "Maybe you should just stay in bed today and watch 'Friends' reruns." Or, "Nah, let's just order pizza again. Who needs to go out and socialize?"But fear, my friend, is a bully. And like any bully, it thrives on your weakness. So, how do we stand up to this fear-mongering tyrant? Well, here are a few tips:2. Make a List of All the Worst Things That Could Happen: This might sound counterintuitive, but it can actually be quite liberating. Once you've listed all the terrible, awful, no-good things that could possibly happen, you'll realize that most of them are either highly unlikely or you could probably survive.3. Create a Fear Monster: Give your fear a name and a personality. Is it a grumpy old man? A sassy teenager? Once you've personified your fear, you can start to see it as a silly, attention-seeking creature that needs a good smackdown. ( Ms. Insecurity)4. Join a Support Group: Find a group of people who are also terrified of everything. Sharing your fears with others can make you feel less alone and more empowered to face them. Plus, you can all laugh together about how ridiculous your fears are.5. Just Do It: Sometimes, the only way to overcome fear is to simply take the leap. Even if you're scared out of your mind, just do it. You might surprise yourself.Remember, fear is a normal human emotion. But it shouldn't control your life. So, the next time you find yourself paralyzedby fear, just remember: you're stronger than you think, and you've got this.FUN FACT:Did you know that the average person takes about 2,000 steps per day? That's a lot of walking! Imagine if you could turn those steps into energy. Did you know, there are actually shoes that can do just that. They have built-in generators that convert kinetic energy from your steps into electricity. So, while you're walking around, you could be charging your phone or other small devices. Pretty cool idea, right?QuoteDon't aim at success-the more you aim at it and make it a target, the more you are going to miss it. My guest today on the Online for Authors podcast is Frank Winters, author of the book 10 Little Rules for Sharing Your Story. A father of two fantastic men, public speaker, geographer, and explorer, Frank Winters was intrigued and motivated by a random fact: one of the things he loves the most – public speaking – is the thing most feared by many. His work (as Geographic Information Officer of NYS, President of the National States Geographic Information Council and Chair of the National Pandemic GIS Task Force) gives Frank a breadth of professional experiences to draw from. Outside of work, Frank coached a youth mountain bike race team to a state championship and served for more than two decades as President of a non-profit ski area. Paying back a lifelong debt to the Boy Scouts of America, he serves as Section Director for the National Camp School wilderness guide program. A recent annual tradition for Frank and his oldest son is racing the 90-mile Adirondack Canoe Classic. In my book review, I stated 10 Little Rules for Sharing Your Story explores his rules for public speaking. However, these rules will help more than those speaking behind a podium. Do you want to be a better communicator with those you love? Do you want to provide a legacy of stories to your children? Do you want to connect more over coffee and bagels? Then 10 Little Rules for Sharing Your Story is the right book for you. Not only does Frank share his rules, but he provides notebooking pages so you can create your own rules around storytelling. My favorite rule is #6 - Think Beyond the Elevator Pitch. Frank believes that if you have something important to say, you should be able to adjust it to the time given to you. If you only have 7 seconds, what would you say? What about two minutes? What about twenty? By thinking of our stories this way, we can learn what parts are the most important and the most intriguing. I will definitely be using this idea in my own speaking! I highly recommend this 10 Little Rules book. Meet Dedee Cai, an entrepreneur who has found success in coaching and business development. She did all of the things expected of a first-generation immigrant: do well in school and get a great job, but it didn't make her happy. Running a restaurant with her mother helped her find community, but it was also burning her out. Her wake up call came when she was on vacation in Venice and found herself more focused on her phone because she was so used to having “to put fires out” than she was on relaxing and enjoying her vacation! She stepped away from the restaurant and became a certified holistic health coach, something that came from her original desire to become a therapist and help people. She found clients were coming to her for help with business and this is how she became a business coach. She found success in this industry by finding her self-worth and helping other women do the same and it inspired her to start Fit to Profit. She is planning to relaunch her podcast, The Fear Factor, next year. She is also launching a program called Mindset Mastery that is aimed at helping women have the confidence and self-worth to charge what they are worth in their business. She's also written a book, The Overcomer: How to Conquer Your Fear to Achieve Your Goals, about using fear as a catalyst for success. Key takeaways: “You have to be holistically fit in all ways in order to be profitable.” She works with clients to teach women to build their self-worth and confidence by working on themselves physically, mentally, and spiritually. How Dedee zeroes in on her clients' thoughts that build their realities and how she helps them change them. Don't let people convince you to undercharge. You have value to provide to people and you should charge your worth! Fear, self-doubt, and overwhelm are common barriers to success. “Overwhelm happens when you're trying to fix everything about yourself” and that's why it's important to do it one step at a time. “Every single person, we all have a story to tell.” Dedee's links: Website Facebook Instagram
