Chris Roy is a lifestyle coach and personal trainer specializing in mindset, fitness, and nutrition. He is also a CrossFit L-1 trainer, father, and heart attack survivor who had been living a life of gluttony, substance abuse, and caffeine addiction. Chris got a wake-up call in May of 2019 when he had a heart attack in front of his daughter in a local coffee shop which left him fighting for his life at the age of thirty-three. Through dedication and education, he recreated his life and lifestyle to show others and encourage them to reclaim their health to live the life that they and their loved ones deserve. Chris describes his lifelong struggle with emotional eating and lack of self-awareness. After his heart attack, he began making small changes in his lifestyle, starting with a regime of eliminating sugar, increasing his water intake, supplementation, and walking. By making these simple changes, in just a few short weeks he noticed a significant improvement in his overall health and well-being. That launched Chris on a journey of self-awareness, self-reflection, and continuing to make better choices. Armed with his faith along with his own small team of fitness and nutritional experts who helped him create a lifestyle which continued his positive trajectory of health and fitness, Chris realized that he was capable of so much more than he ever thought possible, and now he helps others do the same. Download this positive and uplifting episode to hear Chris' story and learn how each and every one of us can reclaim our health and fitness, one change at a time. On this episode, we talk with Dr. Tyler Kallasy, PT, DPT about everything from taboo training, the role of physical therapy in performance training, similarities and delineations between different types of sports performance professionals, knees-over-toes training, and how physical therapists are uniquely trained to help athletes achieve their goals. More about Tyler:Tyler Kallasy is a graduate of Utica College, where he received a B.S. in Health Sciences and then a Doctorate of Physical Therapy degree. Currently, he is a traveling DPT, allowing him to adventure across the U.S., and practice in a variety of settings. Initially, Tyler planned to focus solely on outpatient orthopedic and athletic performance. His love for sports and recreation began as a young boy, and carried him through 4 years as a collegiate football player. During grad school, Tyler spent some time experimenting with various fitness modalities, and eventually landed himself in a CrossFit box, where his passion for improving human movement really began to thrive. Tyler has been able to use his DPT degree in combination with his experience as a CrossFit L-1 Trainer and Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist to help athletes of all ages, shapes and sizes progress toward a healthier, happier version of themselves. Along the way, Tyler has had a few experiences that have had a significant influence on his professional goals, and potential career path. While completing a 12-week clinical rotation at an intensive care unit for patients with a variety of neurologic conditions (TBI, SCI, stroke, CP) Tyler discovered his love for neurologic rehabilitation. Throughout graduate school, Tyler worked in Adaptive Sports and Recreation – building, facilitating and developing a variety of programs for folks who are blind or visually impaired. Since then, he has focused his efforts toward learning how to better incorporate his passion for the human nervous system, with his clinical knowledge of the musculoskeletal system, and professional experience in recreational and wellness adaptation. Tyler continues to advance his knowledge of manual medicine through courses including RockTape Functional Movement Techniques (Kinesiology Taping and IASTM Tools), Grey institute 3DMAPS Movement Analysis and Performance Systems. While he enjoyed practicing in the standard outpatient orthopedic setting, Tyler recognized how much he enjoyed working 1-on-1 with folks in the comfort of a private setting, such as their home, or their gym. While he continues to practice in a commercial outpatient orthopedic setting, Tyler also provides exceptional physical therapy services in a non-traditional way. This has allowed him to further improve his ability to really understand the patient and provide skilled evaluations and treatments with undivided attention and guidance. Tyler enjoys making up his own recipes, hiking mountains with his girlfriend and doggos, exploring restaurants in a new city and working out.Find Tyler on Instagram @tylerkallasy.dpt and on his website www.prospect-pt.com
And we're back - we've had a few episodes that were recorded towards the end of last year and this week's episode is one that was originally recorded around the new year's Holiday. This episode is a sit-down conversation with Dr. Hayden-William Courtland. We have had the pleasure of knowing Hayden since sometime around 2015. He's from New York City and has family in the Southbury area so he's been a regular visitor throughout the years. He has a plethora of coaching certifications and academic credentials which I do my best to list off while trying to introduce him on the show and feel like I still fell short. He is a certified Starting Strength Coach, has achieved his CrossFit L-3 certification and he has recently stepped into the world of gym ownership and is the new owner of Solace New York, also known as CrossFit Solace. I have to thank him for taking the time to talk with me and hope you all enjoy. @dr.courtland @scienceforfitness @solacenewyork
Have you ever been frustrated around your period because your motivation is low and the cravings are strong? On Episode 12, Jenn Marker joins me for an in depth conversation about syncing your nutrition and training to your cycle. She shares her story and the effects of a low calorie diet coupled with high intensity training days (spoiler alert: she lost her period). And she wasn't alone. Jenn dove into educating herself on women's hormones, cycles and how we can actually use food and exercise to help mitigate and manage our cycle and symptoms. We dive into a chat about birth control and how it affects your cycle, advocating for your health, why and when you should consider syncing your nutrition and training to your cycle and why, oh why, we crave chocolate around our period. Jenn and I discuss why we think, as women, we know so little about our bodies (we get a little fired up) and how sex education could be more useful in school. She also shares about her cinnamon roll taste test adventures. If you're in the Seattle area, take notes!Jenn Marker is the creator of the Body Rebuild Blueprint, a cycle connection program for women. This training, nutrition and hormone support program is designed to help women lose weight and gain strength without restrictive diets or excessive cardio by syncing it all to a woman's unique monthly cycle. She has been a personal trainer since 2010, is a Crossfit L-1 coach, as well as a hormone, mindset and neurotype specialist.Jenn has also created a Cycle Connection Coaches program for coaches looking to further their education on women's hormones and cycle syncing. Hey guys Ron Leon Here! Meet Joe Rodonis & Andrew Mariani IN JOE RODONIS OWN WORDS" t's great meeting you and I'm excited to share my story. I'm proud to say I'm living out and pursuing my dream, but it wasn't always that way. I grew up in Chicago with a great family and was very active in team sports growing up. I'm incredibly close with my brother and grew up with amazing parents. I left Chicago to study Finance at Indiana University - Bloomington. I began my professional career as a financial analyst at a Fortune 20 HealthCare company. I had a 10 year career there, and gradually moved into Sales Management, selling Nuclear Medicine in the Carolinas. While I had a great career, I began to realize this wasn't going to be the right fit for me in the long run. In 2017, my Father and my Grandfather both passed away suddenly…which changed my life. A year later, I made the decision to leave my corporate job and “pursue my dreams”. This lead me to Cape Town, South Africa in 2017-2018 where I lived for 6 months as a model. An incredible experience where I spent time exploring the country, hiking, meditating, and diving into the fitness scene. In 2018, I decided to move to New York which lead me to find Tone House. I fell in love with the vision and community here. I am a Head Coach and Lead Instructor on Tone House TV (OnDemand). I also co-host a podcast with our Dietitian, Ryan Turner called The Breakdown. Represented by IMG Model Management, I have worked with brands such as; UnderArmour, GIII, Michael Strahan, Starter, Ten Thousand, Dirt Devil, Hanes, Men's Fitness. As a Coach, my mission is to help others realize and unlock their potential and using training as a method to do so. I believe we are all capable of more than we may believe; and training allowed me a way to prove that to myself. I want to share that gift with everyone I work with as they pursue their own dreams. MEET ANDREW MARIANI A lifelong athlete and collegiate lacrosse player, Andrew began personal training in college with his team's strength and conditioning coach. He has been training and programming for individuals and groups ever since. Andrew is passionate about helping people break down their barriers and discover their true potential. Fun Fact Andrew does a crossword puzzle every day. Certifications Onnit Foundations, CrossFit L-1, CrossFit Mobility, Aerobic Capacity, Power Monkey Olympic Lifting, Power Monkey Gymnastics, Kettlebell Athletics Level 1 Andrew also works in a concept group fitness conditioning modality across the states called "STRONG NEWYORK", and also he's transitioning into the field of fitness consulting, and the opening of gyms across America a true example of entrepreneur , and grinder. And so we go for this episode of TRIPLE FFFM RAW with the crew in studio having a lot of fun as always.
