“We are up at the crack of dawn. It's so early in the morning that the fish are still asleep.” This video captures our early morning adventure in Da Lat, filled with various activities and hidden gems. Our day begins at dawn and involves cloud hunting—a unique activity of watching clouds roll over the hills. We drive through town, witnessing the quiet before the city awakens and humorously comparing it to nightlife in other regions. Our strawberry picking plans hit a snag as we realize it's off-season, leading us to buy strawberries from a roadside vendor instead. The adventure continues with a visit to a local chocolate factory offering a tasting session, highlighting hidden gem number eight. We also explore the Maize Bar, a labyrinthine establishment inspired by the Crazy House, culminating in spectacular views over the rolling hills of Da Lat. Alongside these activities, we savor local dishes such as Vietnamese pizza (Banh Trang Nuong) and Da Lat pancakes with quail eggs. This episode encapsulates the diverse attractions and culinary experiences that make Da Lat a fascinating destination.00:00 Early Morning Adventures01:33 Cloud Hunting Excitement04:10 Exploring Hidden Gems10:15 Breakfast Delights14:57 Strawberry Picking Misadventures20:57 Strawberry Picking in Da Lat21:58 Exploring the Chocolate Factory23:00 Tasting Chocolate Samples27:02 Discovering Vietnamese Pizza31:38 Maze Bar Adventure34:12 Navigating the Maze Bar39:53 Concluding Thoughts and Farewell

Join Adrie and I (and Biscuit) on an adventure through Da Lat as we uncover hidden gems and more! We started with a trek that Google Maps recommended but were blocked by security, leading us to Happy Hill Café with stunning views and Instagram-worthy spots. While there, we observed the excessive use of plastic in such a natural setting. We then ventured to the Crazy House, a Gaudi-esque marvel designed uniquely. Throughout our journey, we navigated Da Lat's scenic routes, met locals with impressive English skills, and enjoyed lunch outdoors. Despite some challenges, the exploration was filled with beautiful landscapes, local culture, and of course, our furry friend Biscuit. This video captures the beauty, quirks, and environmental concerns of Dalat, making it a must-watch for future travelers!00:00 Introduction and Trek Plans00:48 Encounter with Security Guards01:01 Enjoying Coffee at Happy Hill02:10 Observations on English Proficiency04:57 Plastic Waste Concerns in Vietnam07:33 Exploring Hidden Gems09:39 Attempting the Trek Again12:38 Lunch at Moe Bistro15:14 Visiting the Crazy House"Send me a message!"7 Bridges Brewing Co. - An award winning Vietnamese craft brewery from Da Nang, with breweries across Vietnam!Rabbit Hole Irish Sports Bar - Check out their new location on Tran Nao with the best views in the city over Landmark 81!Support the show

“Dalat is full of hidden gems—you just have to know where to look.”Dalat has always had a special charm, but this trip was all about discovering the lesser-known spots that make it truly unique. From scenic coffee farms to quiet nature trails, we set out to uncover places that offer something beyond the usual tourist stops. And of course, Biscuit came along for the adventure—because if anyone loves the cool mountain air, it's her.One thing I love about Dalat is how easy it is to explore. We hopped on a motorbike and within minutes, we were riding past pine-covered hills, flower farms, and roadside cafés that felt like they belonged in a movie. Along the way, we met locals, tasted some interesting drinks (cheese coffee, anyone?), and enjoyed the kind of fresh air you just don't get in Saigon. If you're looking for the real Dalat beyond the usual tourist spots, this episode is for you. Every time we've been to Da Lat, we've been probably six times and you can always find something different to do - AdrieThere's so much depth to what you can do in Da Lat that people don't initially realize. Even after five visits, we're still discovering new experiences - from unexplored coffee shops to sunrise cloud hunting adventures. What's fascinating about Da Lat is its versatility - while the city center and night market might get crowded, especially during holidays, the moment you venture out on a bike, you discover this whole other world. The contrast between being in the busy center and finding peaceful spots just a short ride away is remarkable. I think both tourists and expats in Saigon don't fully appreciate just how much Da Lat has to offer.- Niall MackayKey Takeaways:- Most expats who've visited rate Da Lat highly, but many tourists might not even know about it.- Temperature difference between day and night is dramatic - visitors should always pack a jacket.- Da Lat is notably dog-friendly and offers various activities from cable cars to flower gardens.- The night market, while popular, is considered the least appealing aspect of Da Lat.Chapters and Timestamps:01:00 - Initial Ratings Discussion 04:00 - Weather and Climate Insights 06:00 - Food and Drink Spots 08:00 - Activities and Attractions 11:00 - Night Market Discussion 13:00 - Final Thoughts and Ratings 15:00 - Holiday Season Discussion "Send me a message!"7 Bridges Brewing Co. - An award winning Vietnamese craft brewery from Da Nang, with breweries across Vietnam!Support the showThis show is produced by Seven Million Bikes Podcasts. If you would like to work with them too check out their website!

I've always recorded my annual predictions on December 31 or January 1. However, on December 28, 2024, I started a two-week trip to Dalat, Vietnam.  I wanted to travel light, so I recorded my annual predictions on December 27, allowing me to leave my audio and video gear in Ho Chi Minh, where I planned to return on January 15, 2025.  In my podcast a few days ago, I said that my prediction that Jimmy Carter would die in 2024 was wrong.    Sadly, my 2024 prediction was correct. See my 1-minute video The only good news in this sad news is that I get an extra point in my 2024 prediction evaluation scorecard, bringing me to 5 out of 10 points, a mediocre score, tying my worse performance. See my 2024 predictions. You can also see my 2025 predictions.  RIP Jimmy Carter. Cities and Memory - remixing the sounds of the world

"I originally thought the recording that I would produce might reflect the lovely, peaceful time of the year in New York which is where I'm from but making music has a mind of its own. "I'm in a dark place. Worked on this project close to despair here in Washington DC. "The breathy, slightly percussive looped sound was manipulated from the field recording by Dan Rosato of a vendor making ice cream in the streets of Đà Lạt Vietnam. "The other musical elements were created for this project and are mixed with one of my own looped field recordings of a violinist tuning in a local church. "Life gets in the way of living sometimes. Yes, there are moments of joy but in the world right now there seems to be so much that is terribly sad and merciless." Da Lat night market reimagined by Bill McKenna. "The sound of the scoop on the steel roll on which ice cream is made in a Da Lat night market is reminiscent of animal voracity and the relentless use of jaws.  "The incessant metallic melody and the sometimes melodious voice of the ice cream man contrast with the carpet of ambient sounds in the background, creating a destabilising acoustic contrast." Dáme vám rady na gastrotrip, ale aj cestovateľské tipy od Vietnamcov a aj od slovenského turistu.Turisti a cestovatelia si musia vybrať, či chcú vo Vietname odpočívať alebo veľa vidieť a zažiť. V prvom prípade nájdete tropický raj a ostrovy. Ak chcete cestovať, musíte sa pozrieť na mapu a poriadne si naplánovať cestu. My vás dnes vezmeme zo severu na juh. Začneme Hanojom a Dračou zátokou (Ha Long Bay). Pokračujeme centrálnym Vietnamom s historickým cisárskym mestom Hue, pobrežným Danangom, kde nie sú takmer žiadni turisti a fotogenickým mestom Hoi An.Dostaneme sa až do horského strediska Da Lat. In this podcast episode, I have the opportunity to introduce you to Vicki Thai, a Health Care Sales professional living in Utah, USA, with Vietnamese heritage. Vicki's family immigrated to the United States from Vietnam when she was four years old, and during her growing up, she had never given much thought to her Vietnamese background. However, a moment of vulnerability in her mother's health led her to realize the importance of experiencing her heritage. She decided to plan a trip to Vietnam with her mother and reached out to the "What About Vietnam" podcast for assistance. As I knew the background to the tour, I took great pleasure in planning this trip for Vicki and her mum, which included visits to Saigon, the Mekong Delta, and Dalat. These locations held special significance for Vicki and her mother, allowing them to explore their roots and connect with their heritage. Unexpectedly, the trip evoked strong emotions and a newfound appreciation for their Vietnamese identity.During their stay in Vietnam, Vicki and her mother engaged with the local people, immersed themselves in the country's culture, and marveled at the landscapes. This experience transformed Vicki's perception of her birthplace, instilling a deep sense of pride in her heritage. She also praises the warmth and thoughtfulness of the Vietnamese people, particularly their tour guides, and one in particular in Saigon, Ms Thuy. The episode highlights Vicki's journey through Saigon, the Mekong Delta, and Dalat, showcasing her awe and discovery of these places. I think for those who don't live in their country of birth, you will relate to Vicki's story. Despite the trip going mostly smoothly, there was a minor glitch, illustrating that while many aspects can be controlled, some factors remain unpredictable. From the bustling vibrant city of Saigon, Vicki takes us by the hand as she describes her love of the bustling city of Saigon, to her awe and disbelief cruising through the Mekong Delta and then to discovering through the forests, the city of Dalat. A city she totally didn't expect, while being her mothers' birth city.At a deeper level this episode offers insight into the transformative power of heritage exploration and the deep connections it can foster. Time stamps:02-00-  History and background to Vicki's reason to visit Vietnam27.00 - Saigon 30.00 - Tour Guide review of guides in general - starting with Saigon35.06 - Happy Birthday Vicki36.06 - Mekong Delta40.29 - Dalat Find out what's possible in the best dental and cosmetic procedures through our partnership with Worldwide Hospital in Vietnam.Get in touch with us to arrange a free private consultation or comparison quotation.Thank you for listening. There are many reasons why Vietnam is a stand out favourite destination amongst female solo travellers. One of the dominant reasons is safety. The others reasons we explore more deeply in the show as they stem from the Vietnamese people themselves, and how they recognise women empowerment in their own culture. I hope my male guests will forgive us for making this show about the female solo traveller. You needn't worry, I have a male solo traveller show on the drawing board so stay tuned. However, the aim of this show is to allay any fears a female may have about taking a solo trip to Vietnam. You are going to hear from both a westerner as in myself and a Vietnamese hospitality professional living in Saigon. My lovely guest is Camellia Dinh. With over 10 years of experience working in the hospitality industry for some of the world's most prestigious hotel brands including Park Hyatt, Sofitel, and the M-Gallery Collection, Camellia has a wealth of experiences and local knowledge to share. Currently she holds the position as Director of Sales at Fusion Original Saigon CentreCamellia tells us it is not always convenient to travel with friends or family as matching up schedules with study and jobs makes it almost impossible. She says that she started travelling alone as teenager, and over time has come to really enjoy her trips alone, and it has afforded her some fun experiences. That's not to say she doesn't love travelling with friends and family when she can.Together we'd like to share our own personal experiences to ensure women considering doing this, can do so with confidence. Especially if the female traveller loves food, culture, scenery, shopping, pampering, wellness, adventure and making new friends along the way.The doors for a “female solo traveller” are about to open, and Vietnam is waiting to greet you with open arms. As we take a break between Seasons here's the latest episode from our sister podcast, Did That Really Happen?Book your tickets for One Night In Saigon: Paul Villanova (June 5th 2022)Ever heard a joke and wondered, “Did That Really Happen?”My name's Niall Mackay, host of A Vietnam Podcast and a comedian... long before I ever started comedy, when I heard comedians tell the craziest, funniest stories I would always wonder just that. And if I got a chance to meet them after the show I would always ask “Did That Really Happen?” … and 9 times out of 10 the answer was “Yes!”But the difference between sharing a story with friends and telling it on stage is a comedian's ability to take those moments and craft them into a well worked joke. In each episode of this podcast we'll talk to comedians from around the world, play you one of their jokes, then ask them, “Did That Really Happen?Paul has sold out shows in Hanoi, performed all over Vietnam, in Hanoi, Dalat & Saigon and was lucky enough to be part of “Comedy Oi” Vietnam's first comedy festival. He tells stories of his own failures(there are many), what it's like to change your life completely in your 30's & what mild success in Vietnam is like.Listen to his joke and find out... Cities and Memory - remixing the sounds of the world

A typical hot night at the Da Lat Night Market, located in the Central Highlands of Vietnam. Locals crowd around an ice cream stand, where they order fresh strawberries chopped into ice cream and rolled up. Small motorbikes are everywhere.  Recorded by Dan Rosato.

Dr. LoAn Nguyen grew up in a very humble background in a small town of Dalat, Vietnam, during the Vietnam war.  By good fortune, she was able to come to the United States as a young refugee at the end of April, 1975, three days before the Fall of Saigon. After 5 months at 2 refugee camps, she started her undergraduate study at Juniata College (Huntingdon, PA). LoAn then spent her junior year abroad in France (Université Catholique de Lille).  Following graduation in 1979, she delayed the pursuit of a medical career. Instead, she entered the doctoral program in chemistry at the Johns Hopkins University, where LoAn pursued biochemistry research for the following five years. In 1984, after completing her PhD, Dr. Nguyen joined the Medical Class of 1988 at the University of Maryland, school of Medicine to finally fulfill her dream of becoming a physician.    After receiving her MD, she started residency training at NY Stony Brook University Hospital to be with her husband, who was working for the Grumman Aerospace Cooperation at the time. She stayed an extra year as Chief Resident and Clinical Instructor. Dr. Nguyen joined the Mid Atlantic Permanente Medical Group in July 1992 and had her dream career as a primary care physician for the following 27.5 years. Her passion was patient centered approach to care delivery not only for individual patients but also the patient population she served. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/the-tri-way/message
