She trained at the University of Melbourne and has practised in Queensland since completing her course in 1989. She initially worked in public hospital settings before moving into full time private work. She evaluates clients both at the referral of treating doctors and as an independent expert in medicolegal cases (personal injuries civil matters and cognitive aspects of capacity to stand trial in criminal matters). She enjoys the challenge of fully evaluating complex cases, and had given evidence in legal proceedings on a number of occasions. She has several publications and conference presentations related to this work, which demonstrate her commitment to evidence-based practise. Debbie is also very active in the Australian Psychological Society, and most recently chaired the College of Clinical Neuropsychologists annual conference November 2018 and is currently the chair of the Qld Section of the College of Clinical Neuropsychologists. She is passionate about training the next generation of professionals, so supervises new graduates (registrars) in her practise and undertakes casual lecturing at a university in Brisbane, lecturing the students in clinical neuropsychology and assessment skills. In honor of World Autism Awareness Day, Cheryl Greer and Debbie Anderson, founding members of Parents of Atypical Children (PAC) - a chapter within our Professional Parents Network, join the Life at DHG podcast. Cheryl is Tax Leader in our Talent Alignment Group and the mother of two boys ages 11 and 8. Her 8-year-old was diagnosed with autism when he was five. Debbie is Manager in State and Local Tax group and the mother of two boys ages 8 and 5, both diagnosed with autism. Through conversations at work, the founding PAC members realized they had a commonality of having atypical children and immediately hopped on a call to establish PAC as a support and resource group – many members saying they wished they had a resource group available when they were going through the diagnosis process. Both Debbie and Cheryl acknowledged that connecting with other parents who are on the same journey is extremely valuable. Although a newly formed group, PAC has quite a few upcoming initiatives including virtual walks to support autism awareness, creating resources for sensory friendly activities, driving awareness for National Disability Month in October and tools for financial planning. This interview is very interesting. Debbie speaks about spirits and how she saw her first spirit at the age of four years old. She spoke about her decks and how it all started. Debbie is very knowledgeable and experienced with it comes to speaking with the spirit world. ALL ABOUT DEBBIE: It was shortly after her parents divorced, when she was 4, and sharing a bed with her mother, that Debbie A. Anderson, saw the ceiling peel back and ethereal beings of brilliant light sit on the edge of the bed. This was the beginning of a childhood and teen years filled with seeing, hearing and doing what others could not: having more visits by spirit beings, seeing people who had passed over, knowledge of the future, obtaining information about people that could only be obtained through her intuitive gifts, healing people with her hands, and more. But when told by her mother it was time to see the psychiatrist, Debbie's guides painted a picture of her ending up “in a nice white coat (a straight-jacket) in a padded room,” so she suppressed what was really happening and told everyone that she was simply trying to get attention. Nevertheless, in young adulthood and out on her own, she was drawn to Tarot cards, and a community of like-minded people who would meet weekly for meditation, card reading and esoteric exploration. In her 20s Debbie took courses at Arthur Findley College in Stansted, Essex UK (which she says was like attending Hogwarts), and she began to give full reign to her gifts. Encouraged by a friend to attend a past-life regression workshop, she met Chris Lee, who was Canadian, the man who would become her husband. Moving to Canada in 1997, she took a job in the corporate world, but continued to do readings for people on the side. But still reluctant to leave the steady paycheck of corporate life, Debbie got a wake-up call from the Universe after a sequence of injury-causing accidents that make it difficult to work in a traditional job. You may hear "pick your battles," but how easy is it to do that in the heat of the moment, when you're frustrated, tense, and have no patience left?  In this podcast, our daughter Clara joins us and we share about a crazy utopian society, how to pick your battles, and 4 powerful tips to diffuse the fight before it starts. Where we have been - Koreshan State Park - The Koreshan Unity was a communal utopia formed by Cyrus Teed, - The Koreshan Unity started in the 1870s in New York, where Teed started preaching his beliefs - Eventually, Teed took his followers to Estero, Florida, to form his "New Jerusalem" in 1894. (and no, “voluptuous” in no way means an 18” waist, Nathan!) The community was at its peak 1903-1908, when it had over 250 residents - In 1908 Teed got in a skirmish with a local Marshal over preaching their beliefs and was beat down After Teed died in 1908 the group went into decline.   Follow www.Instagram.com/FieldTripGypsies to see all our pictures of this place Pick your battles.  You don’t have to show up to every argument you’re invited to.  Mandy Hale Episode 9 - Fighting Toward a win-win (discussion is not a monologue)  “Practice being kind rather than being right.”  Go back to “what is your goal” in this. Be careful about going down the long road of fighting a battle that may just not be worth fighting.  It’s okay to be human and recognize when a battle has gotten bigger than your relationship.  Step out of it.  Don’t die on that hill.  Your relationship is worth more than that.  • Where is my tension?  Do a body scan – where are you feeling your anger?  Are you going to simply react out of anger? Point this out in your children - “is your chest really tight?”  “Are your fists clenched?”  A thief doesn’t like to have a light shined on them - bring light to the negative feeling in your - or your child’s - body.  Notice it, and watch how it can dissipate. • Ask yourself, “is this more about my convenience or their needs?”  Which is more important at that moment? Patience - we are given opportunities for it.  And although it might take forever, when I’ve held back, the kids work it out on their own.  For example, potty time.  It takes forever.  • Take a perspective check and determine the urgency of the situation What will I lose if I let go of my expectation in this moment? For parking lot drama or a late airplane flight - take over and move them out on.  Shoes on just-so before a walk…we wait. • Take a deep breath, and count to seven.  This helps to re-set and cool you down, and allows your child to process and think about their part in it all. Taking a breather can be helpful - kill two birds with one stone with the pull-up bar.  Let kids see us give ourselves a time out.  Shake off all that negative energy.  Check out Dr. Laura Bergman’s Quantum Love series.
