See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Oliver Stockwell is Britain's newest WorldTour rider and the latest young talent to graduate to the professional ranks with support from The Rayner Foundation. Like all Rayner riders, Stockwell chose to pursue his dream by racing overseas. His courage and resilience have been rewarded with a two-year contract from Team Bahrain-Victorious. Moving to Italy without a word of Italian and later spending two weeks in an Italian hospital, the preliminary phase of a six-month recovery from a broken leg that saw him race only five times in 2023, are just some of the hurdles overcome by the 22-year-old from St Albans. Resilience, the common factor in the character of all Rayner riders, is a quality he possesses in abundance. In this detailed interview with co-host Timothy John, Stockwell describes his instant attraction to cycling as an 11-year-old discovering the velodrome in Welwyn while walking with his family. A founding education with Welwyn Wheelers and a national junior title followed before he joined British Cycling's storied Olympic Academy in 2019. The Covid pandemic reduced his tenure with the federation's flagship development programme, however. After racing just twice in 2020 and enjoying only 35 race days in 2021, he joined the Italian development team CTF Friuli in 2022 in search of further opportunities. The club became the official feeder of Bahrain-Victorious during Stockwell's two-year stint, and his results impressed the WorldTour team sufficiently to win a contract. Stockwell discusses a range of topics, including his membership of a golden generation of young British riders now racing in the sport's top tier, a talent for cyclo-cross that saw him selected for two world championships, and the vital support of The Rayner Foundation, whose combination of financial and emotional support helped him make the transition from the Olympic Academy to CTF Friuli. In 2018, Phil Jones, Brother UK's Managing Director and this podcast's co-host, rode the entire route of the Tour of Britain with ultra endurance cyclist James Golding to raise around £20,000 for the Foundation. The Leeds-based charity, founded in memory of the hugely gifted Dave Rayner, has helped scores of young British riders to turn professional, including Tour de France stage winners David Millar and Adam Yates.
See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Bonjour, bonjour! Zdjęcia i linki: https://www.podcastrowerowy.pl/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/PodkastRowerowyInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/podkastrowerowy/Produkcja Oryginalna Earborne Media https://originals.earbornemedia.com/projects/podcast-rowerowy/Posłuchaj innych serii oryginalnych Earborne Media. Just three days into the Giro d'Italia and, after Tadej Pogacar's sterling work over the opening weekend, it's already a done deal, isn't it? No, of course it isn't. Yes, the Slovenian has the pink jersey and has made a great start, but there's still plenty of racing to come and work to be done, according to Stephen Roche, who knows better than almost anyone what it takes to win the Giro-Tour double. Although he recognises that Pogačar is a class apart as a racer, Ireland's 1987 Triple Crown winner explains why chasing victories and time gains every day could soon lead to some serious strategic problems for the Giro leader, both within his own team and amongst the rest of the peloton. Also from the Giro, we hear from British debutant Harrison Wood, with the Cofidis rider offering his perspective on his first weekend of Grand Tour racing. Meanwhile, over in France, safety is once again the focus of attention after a horror crash during the Ronde de l'Isard under-23 stage race in the Pyrenees that resulted in one of Australia's brightest prospects being hospitalised. Our reporter at the event caught up with Trinity Racing's team director Pete Kennaugh to get his perspective on the incident and why the sport needs more volunteers to reduce the likelihood of similar occurrences in the future. We also report from the race on the latest crop of upcoming talents who are likely to be breaking into the elite ranks in the coming seasons, including a cohort from Visma | Lease a Bike and an extremely promising 18-year-old Belgian. Global Peloton's Dan Challis joins us as a guest presenter and he tells us about China's growing enthusiasm for road racing, spearheaded by the China Glory team. Dan talks to the team's French team director Lionel Marie, who reveals the team is looking to move up from the continental ranks, with the WorldTour a long-term goal. In our regular "How to Make Cycling Better" slot, Bahrain Victorious's Pello Bilbao proposes a quick fix solution for the UCI points system – simply do away with it! After being at the forefront of British success for two decades, masterminding the development of superstars such as Mark Cavendish, Geraint Thomas, Bradley Wiggins and Tom Pidcock, Rod Ellingworth has left WorldTour to oversee the reboot of the women's and men's Tour of Britain. In an exclusive interview trackside at Manchester velodrome, Ellingworth reveals why he left Ineos Grenadiers, how he has a bold vision to grow British Cycling's national tours — and whether he'll be giving Dave Brailsford advice on who to bring off the bench at Old Trafford… Sandwiched between the pavé and the Giro d'Italia are the Ardennes Classics, hilly one-day races in the elevated lands of the Netherlands and Belgium, the setting this coming weekend for a heavyweight clash between Tadej Pogačar and Mathieu van der Poel. In our preview of the weekend's major racing action, Ardennes Classics veteran Dan Martin, winner of Liege-Bastogne-Liege in 2013, tells us what makes these races so special and about the qualities required to win them. We also hear from Bahrain-Victorious's Pello Bilbao on how you go about beating Tadej Pogačar. While Van der Poel and Pogačar have been hogging the victories and the headlines at the very top of the sport, it's also become increasingly difficult to ignore the feats of 21-year-old Briton Joe Blackmore. Winner of the Tours of Rwanda and Taiwan, 4th against the big guns at Flèche Brabonçonne, and victorious again at the under-23 edition of Liège-Bastogne-Liège, Blackmore has just signed a 2-year contract with Israel-PremierTech. In our profile of this hugely exciting talent, we hear from Joe Blackmore himself, who tells us what kind of rider he sees himself as and about his motivations as a racer. In our regular feature on "Ways to Make Cycling Better", former pro and now EF Education-EasyPost team director Tejay van Garderen tells us why he'd like to see names and numbers on riders' jerseys. The cycling transfers rumours and talks seem to have started much earlier for the 2025 season. There are rumours of a mass exodus of the talent at Groupama FDJ leaving with Laurence Pithie, Lenny Martinez and Romain Gregoire. Meanwhile Jasper Philipsen has been rumoured to have 4 suitors chasing him including UAE Team Emirates, Tudor Pro Cycling, Bora Hansgrohe and his current team Alpecin. And lastly Aleksandr Vlasov could be leaving Bora to head back to Astana.
In our latest Arrivée episode of the Classics season, Daniel Friebe & Richard Abraham give their verdict on the 121st edition of Paris-Roubaix or the “Hell of the North”. Fresh off his third victory in the Tour of Flanders last week, Mathieu van der Poel was the hot favourite to also land his second Roubaix title. Richard Abraham was in France to see whether MvdP could add a sixth Monument to his palmarès - or whether a cast of challengers headed by Mads Pedersen was able to thwart him. The episode also features a unique insight into Bahrain Victorious leader Fred Wright's recon of the Roubaix cobbles last week. buycycle Arrivée is supported by buycycle. Welcome to the first episode of The Rest Day with Jack Haig! This new podcast is hosted by Bahrain-Victorious' Jack Haig and will take you behind the curtain of pro cycling. The first episode is a chat between Jack and his roommate, Wout Poels, discussing Paris-Nice and Tirreno-Adriatico from the inside.
While the two topics discussed on episode 72 of the road.cc Podcast are both high on the cycling world's list of talking points this week, they notably sit at opposite ends of the seriousness spectrum (unless you take your time trial helmet debates very seriously, of course). In part one, George and Ryan are joined by a former Wiggle Chain Reaction Cycles employee, one of the 450-odd staff members laid off as part of the online retailer's demise and recent rumoured purchase by Mike Ashley's Frasers Group, who discussed what life was like behind the scenes at the beleaguered brand as Wiggle CRC lurched from crisis to crisis in recent months following the collapse of its parent company. The ex-employee also chats about the contrast between Wiggle's grand expansion plans and the struggling state of the bike industry, the “shock” of the company's collapse (amid hopes that it could continue on), and the abrupt, “hard and fast goodbye” dished out to its staff, and the future for Wiggle's house brands such as Vitus and dhb.Meanwhile, in an altogether more frivolous part two, Ryan and Jamie sit down to discuss the topic that's dominated the agenda at Paris-Nice and Tirreno-Adriatico this week: Visma-Lease a Bike's bonkers new Giro Aerohead time trial helmets (oh, and Bahrain-Victorious' fire service-style helmets, too). We ask the important questions: Has helmet design finally jumped the shark? Do these increasingly extravagant air-cheating shapes actually make a difference? Will the UCI ban Giro's bold new look? And, finally, was it designed by a five-year-old?

In this week's episode of The Cycling Podcast, Daniel Friebe is joined by the veteran French journalist François Thomazeau and the Aussie former Classics maestro Mitch Docker to recap Opening Weekend - the Belgian double-header dominated, as per the predictions, by the Visma-Lease a Bike team. Wout Van Aert was the favourite for Saturday's Omloop het Nieuwsblad and indeed looked to be zeroing in on victory until the peloton him down in the closing kilometres. It was left to Jan Tratnik to ‘save' Visma-Lease a Bike and take the win…with Van Aert having to wait until the following day's Kuurne-Brussels-Kuurne to open his Classics account for 2024. We discuss these and other notable performances from the two races, and also hear from Bahrain Victorious's Fred Wright about what went…wrong for him at Omloop. Julian Alaphilippe, too, has had better weekends, and would have been hoping for a better response to his boss, Patrick Lefevere's, recent criticism in the Belgian media. Nevertheless, we ask: what exactly was Lefevere playing at? In this week's episode of The Cycling Podcast, Daniel Friebe is joined by the journalist Richard Abraham & top commentator Rob Hatch, as we look forward to a very eagerly anticipated Opening Weekend in Belgium. Before thoughts turn to Omloop Het Nieuwsblad and Kuurne-Brussels-Kuurne,, we review some racing highlights from the last weekend, most notably from the Algarve in Portugal, where Remco Evenepoel passed the 50-victory mark in his still very young career. We then shift our attention to the Var in France, where our ‘own' Larry Warbasse performed with some distinction on a fine weekend for his Décathlon-AG2r La Mondiale team.. In the final part of the episode, we focus on two upcoming races where Visma-Lease a Bike will be expected to pick up where they left off in 2023, Omloop Het Nieuwsblad and O Gran Camiño in Galicia, Spain - start ramp for Jonas Vingegaard's 2024 campaign. We hear from one rider who'll be hoping to thwart the “killer bees” in Belgium, Fred Wright of Bahrain Victorious, before telling you why tall trees may fall hard in the not-too-distant future in Galicia - even if that doesn't apply to Vingegaard this weekend. Matt Stephens and Wout Poels chat all about his thus-far illustrious career. With recent stage wins at the Tour de France and La Vuelta Espana for team Bahrain Victorious, the 36 year old is enjoying a long career which he credits to keeping his routine fresh. The pair have differing memories when they raced together at the 2010 Tour of Britain, with Wout taking a stage win and Matt doing his best to keep up. Having grown up in a small town in the Netherlands, you'd expect Wout's knowledge of Blitterswijck to come in handy in the hometown quiz - and when the questions feature his fan club's favourite pizzeria hotspot, surely he can't go wrong…right?

The 2023 season was an emotional one for Bahrain Victorious with the tragic loss of Gino Mader. The team were impressive at the Tour de France with several stage wins and a Top 10 overall with Pello Bilbao and will look to repeat that for 2024. Matej Mohorič will be looking for success in the cobblestone classics and could well do so. The transfers were thin on the ground for the team with the star transfer being Torstein Traen from Uno-X but the team lost Mikel Landa to Soudal Quickstep and Jonathan Milan to Lidl Trek.
Matt Stephens chats with a humble and reflective Matej Mohoric, who was recently crowned UCI World Gravel Champion. The Slovenian explains how he grew up riding off-road and started racing in order to dodge working on his parents' farm. But will he get to wear the famous rainbow stripes racing on gravel next season? And having won stages at all three grand tours, what's next for the all-rounder? With a touching tribute to Gino Mäder, Matej explains how his whole Bahrain-Victorious team re-evaluated their lives after the tragic passing of their much loved teammate.

Lance, JB, and George break down how Matej Mohorič pulled out an extremely narrow victory over Kasper Asgreen with a picture-perfect bike throw following a wild nineteenth stage at the Tour de France. The crew discuss how the win, which came after Mohirič, Ben O'Connor, and Kasper Asgreen ripped off the front of a larger, 30+ rider group, came after 3.5 hours of all-out racing that looked more like a one-day classic than a stage of a grand tour, and continues Bahrain-Victorious' emotional run of success at this race in honor of Gino Mäder. They also touch on how Asgreen's rides have changed Soudal-QuickStep's Tour from disaster to success in just the span of two days. Before signing off, they go through tomorrow's short, but explosive stage, and speculate if it will give Tadej Pogačar a chance to leave this Tour on a positive note via a stage win and if the successive tough climbs will produce a GC shuffling. Emotion is the is a big part of the Tour. Bahrain-Victorious tallied up another emotional win honoring their fallen teammate. Overall, today was just a good ol' fashioned stupid-fast bike race! Continue tuning in to hear our Stage 19 recap along with all of the takes you didn't know you needed on this year's 2023 Tour De France.
Heading into the Tour's final rest day, Lance, JB, and George are again joined by Spencer Martin, co-host of OŪTCOMES, WEDŪ's cycling betting podcast, and author of the Beyond the Peloton newsletter, to break down the Tour's fifteenth stage, which saw the veteran Wout Poels get an impressive win from the breakaway to give his Bahrain-Victorious team their second stage win of the race, before getting into the still lock-stepped GC battle between Tadej Pogačar and Jonas Vingegaard further down the mountain. The crew also discuss Wout van Aert's strange tactics in the breakaway, how Jumbo's mid-race pileup could affect the third-week GC dynamics, the fight for the podium, and who between Pogačar or Vingegaard has the upper hand going into Tuesday's decisive time trial. In this special episode, RadioCycling pays tribute to Gino Mäder, the 26-year-old Swiss rider who died after crashing while racing in his national tour last month.Produced in collaboration with journalist Kate Wagner, who got to know Gino well during his professional racing career, it features extracts from interviews she conducted with the Bahrain Victorious rider. These interviews highlight not only Gino's love of cycling and racing, but also his passion for issues beyond the sport, notably the climate crisis, which fired his desire to bring about change and tackle inequality and injustice. These interviews also underline how and why Gino became so popular with fans, as a racer whose perspective encompassed the sport, but also went so far beyond it.Support the show
With the Tour de France's first weekend completed, these are RadioCycling's news headlines...Ineos team manager Rod Ellingworth acknowledges that at least three of the British team's GC leaders are angling for transfers, but denies that there's going to be a mass exodus of their stage race talent. Bullish in his defence of Ineos's Grand Tour strategy, Ellingworth tells us why he's excited about their future and the role he hopes Egan Bernal will play in it.After several days of unrest following the killing a teenager by a police officer, calm appears to be returning to France. We examine Tour organisers ASO's response to the upheaval, hear what race director Christian Prudhomme has had to say about this worrying issue and analyse if and how the Tour might be affected.Bahrain Victorious have been the focus of police raids at each of the last two editions of the Tour, with riders and team staff questioned and medicine and electronic equipment seized. The subsequent investigation was completed at the end of last year, so where does the team stand? We get the latest from Bahrain general manager Milan Erzen, who blames jealous rivals for the controversy.David Lappartient has been in the headlines once again. This time the UCI president has suggested that fans could be charged for attending some bike races in order to help their organisers cover costs. We examine Lappartient's idea and hear from Tour of Britain race director Mick Bennett, who believes the proposal is riddled with pitfalls.PLUS• Bahrain's plans to commemorate Gino Mäder • Remco to ride the Vuelta• Lidl and Leclerc in fruit fight• UAE take disinfecting to new levels• And will Tadej Pogačar ran out of gas in the second half of the Tour?Support the show
RadioCycling will be offering three episodes a week during the Tour de France and Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift. Our first Tour-themed show, backed by our new sponsor Saddle Skedaddle, offers a blitz of the latest news going into the world's greatest race.We start with the latest on transfer dealings at Ineos Grenadiers, where there's a lot of outward traffic but very little movement in the other direction. With Tao Geoghegan-Hart, Ben Tulett, Pavel Sivakov, Carlos Rodríguez and now Dani Martínez all heavily linked with moves away from the British super squad, we examine the Ineos transfer strategy. Is there a big signing in the offing?EF Education-EasyPost have named what's arguably their strongest ever line-up for the Tour. Team boss Jonathan Vaughters tells us about their strategy going into the race, why he's expecting team leader Richard Carapaz to come good over the next three weeks, and also offers some suggestions on how to improve rider safety in the wake of Gino Mäder's tragic death at the Tour of Switzerland.Fears that Tadej Pogačar might be forced to sit out the Tour after breaking a wrist in April have been allayed and the two-time champion is fit and raring to go. UAE Team Emirates head coach Iñigo San Millán has played a vital role in Pogačar's return to peak fitness and tells us about Pogačar's training regime during this period and also the UAE leader's love of a chocolate mousse. Most of the pre-Tour talk has, inevitably, been about the GC battle, but what's in store for the clash of the sprinting titans? We turned to Marcel Kittel for an expert's analysis of this contest. Winner of 14 Tour stages, Kittel also reveals why Mark Cavendish was always his biggest rival and who he expects to emerge as this year's Tourminator of the bunch sprints.Last weekend fan favourite Fred Wright took a highly emotional first professional win in the British road championship. The Londoner lifts the lid on what he expects to be an action-packed race for his Bahrain Victorious team, which will be aiming to contend on all fronts.Support the show
The world of professional cycling was rocked and devastated this week by the death of 26-year-old Bahrain Victorious rider Gino Mäder after a crash in his home race, the Tour de Suisse. The tragedy has completely overshadowed the build-up to the Tour de France - and, in turn, forced a change to our original plan for the episode, namely a review of the new Netflix docuseries, Tour de France: Unchained, after last week's interview with execuitve producer James Gay-Rees. You'll still hear that review, for which we're joined by another award-winning filmmaker, Finlay Pretsell, but the first part of the show is dedicated to Mäder, his short but already distinguished career and our interactions with one of the most thoughtful and admirable riders in the peloton. Paris Roubaix is one of the most brutal races on the calendar and this year it could be a showdown between Mathieu van der Poel and Wout van Aert for the win after they have both featured on the podium in previous editions. However, other contenders may spoil their party such as Filippo Ganna, Stefan Kung or even Matej Mohoric of Bahrain Victorious.

Rapha presents Life in the Peloton! The Vuelta a España is one of the 3 grand tours and it can slip under the radar after the hype of the Tour de France, but I can tell you first hand from a rider's perspective it certainly is no easy feat. It's a notoriously tough old lap of Spain, raced in September towards the end of the season and known for its steep climbs and soaring temperatures. But in saying that, there are moments where the stress levels are lower than other grand tours and you can actually enjoy yourself. And that is why I loved it, it was my favourite race, behind Roubaix of course. Naturally, I was keen to get some insight into this year's Vuelta from the pros themselves – to hear about what looks to be one of the toughest Vuelta's yet, how racing has changed from previous years and also how the battle for the points system is shaping racing this year. I thought, what better way than to chat to all ends of the peloton. On the third rest day I spoke with Fred Wright, current UK professional with Bahrain-Victorious, riding his 4th Grand Tour at 23 years of age and in fantastic form. Then I hear from long time pro, Daryl Impey in his 15th year pro, now racing with Israel Premier-Tech with 11 GTs under his belt. And, of course, I had to speak to fan favourite Luke Durbridge, who is a GT veteran having ridden 13 GT's in his 11 years pro with Bike Exchange-Jayco, but ironically this is his first Vuelta. And finally, I wanted to hear from a newbie to grand tours, Luke Plapp. He's current Australian Road Champion, 21 years of age and in his first year pro with Ineos Grenadiers, how is he finding the step into 21 day stage racing? I tell you it was a laugh to hear their brutal honesty, especially being 2 weeks in and so close to the finish line. Jump back into the world tour peloton with me for the last week of grand tour racing this season, I hope you enjoy the insight. Stay tuned next week as I take Talking Luft on race with the pros at the Vuelta. Matt Stephens and Jack Haig discuss the value of consistency above all else. The story of how a young Australian mountain biker went from hitching hiking around North America to the third step of the 2021 Vuelta a España is inspirational. His determination and grit are the key to his success and the Bahrain Victorious rider reckons the most important thing to do, is to turn up - just put in a shift no matter how it goes - it's the sum of your consistency that really makes the difference. Now recovering from a nasty wrist injury, how does he feel to watch the Vuelta on TV and not have the opportunity to play his part?
Our cup overflows with Tour de France stories to discuss today, and on this episode of The VeloNews Podcast we hit as many as we can. First up is the French police raid on the Bahrain-Victorious team hotel, and why this raid in Pau has a special tie to cycling history. Then, we break down all the action from the summit finish on stage 18, which saw Tadej Pogačar bang the nail into the coffin of his rivals. Plus, Ineos Grenadiers appears to be in a free fall during this disastrous tour. Finally, reporters asked Pogačar about his relationship with team manager Mauro Gianetti, who has previously worked with riders implicated in doping. What does Pogačar's statement tell us about the current generation's ties to cycling's past? Then, coach Nate Wilson of EF Education-Nippo joins the podcast to discuss the ever changing pathway for U.S. riders to get to the Tour de France. Wilson has seen multiple riders reach the WorldTour ranks, and the path to the big leagues for U.S. riders is never straightforward. All that and more on this episode of The VeloNews Podcast!
