Recently, the country's top cyclocross riders took on a slick, muddy course in Lévis, Que., site of the 2024 national cyclocross championships. Just past the finish line, Canadian Cycling Magazine was there to capture the reactions of six new champions.Regular contributor Jake Williams was at the event, not only racing in the relay and the championships themselves, but taking in the action. In this episode, he shares his interviews and stories from Lévis with editors Matthew Pioro and Matt Hansen.Emilien Belzile grabbed his first championship win in the junior men's category. He faced a tough race and even went down on the course. In the end, he had to sprint hard against Evan Moore for the finish line. In early November, Belzile was third in the junior race at the Pan Am championships. This past June, the Fédération québécoise des sports cyclistes named him mountain bike athlete of the month for his podium placings in Canada and Quebec Cup events.Nineteen-year-old Mika Comaniuk is no stranger to CX nationals or racing in Lévis. In 2023, he won the C2-level Cyclocross de Lévis. Back in 2022, he was second in the junior race at CX nationals in Victoria. This past weekend, he got a gap on his fellow racers in the under-23 men's group that he was able to maintain until the end.Marin Lowe took a break from her studies at the University of Victoria to jet across the country, borrow a bike and win the under-23 women's race. Lowe already has a maple-leaf jersey in her collection: she is the 2023 junior cross country champ. Also that year, at the cross country world championships, she crossed the line in second place, behind her then-teammate Isabella Holmgren. In this episode, Lowe reveals the unique indicator she has that tells her when she's really ready to race.Like Comaniuk, Rafaelle Carrier won in Lévis in 2023. Actually, Carrier has won in a whole bunch of places the past two years, including Gullegem in Belgium and in Missoula, Mont., at the 2023 Pan Am championships. This year, Carrier was second in the junior category at the cross country world championships. In a way, it's no surprise she defended her 2023 national junior CX title. Still, her competition was top-notch. In second was USCX overall winner Nico Knoll. Third was Aislin Hallahan, a regular on recent USCX podiums. While Isabella Holmgren's elite win wasn't much of a surprise either, she also faced some serious competition, too, like multiple CX champ Maghalie Rochette and current Pan Am champ Sidney McGill. Ian Ackert continued his relatively compact but successful 'cross season by snagging his first elite title. You'll learn how he celebrated that win and how those festivities didn't really seem to hinder him on his next race day at the C2 event.Throughout this episode, Jake, Matthew and Matt bring their analysis to the event, mixed with their signature humour.

Is shopping entertainment? Evan Moore, Senior Vice President, NBCUniversal Advertising & Partnerships, answers the question. NBCUniversal uses composable commerce to enable seamless shopping experiences but their unique approach to commerce is also leveraging moments of inspiration (built with their audiences) to the benefit of the brand partners they work with. Evan recounts a key moment when instead of moving an existing audience to a new ecommerce destination, they pivoted to bring the commerce experience to where the audiences already were. If phase one of shoppable television is taking existing content and layering it on top of ecommerce capabilities, then what's around the corner for phase two? Evan explains what he foresees will be a valuable extension of the entertainment experience. Most of Real Frequency's clients, who are usually between the ages of 15 and 25, start their Launch Agency journey with Mental Toughness and Mental Performance training that which is called “Master Your Mindset.” Master Your Mindset is not rehab for mental challenges, it is pre-hab for mental challenges. Evan believes that if we train our minds, we are less likely to experience mental health challenges. That is why we arm young adults with tools and techniques for navigating daily stress and anxiety.   In this episode, Brad and Evan talk about his childhood and how his life path affected and molded him. The future of College football has changed forever, but the direction still remains as one of the biggest mysteries out there. I joined Sean O'Connel and Evan Moore of Pac-12 Radio to dive into It all! I explain what my prediction for Stanford is in terms of where they end up, and also explain that they appear to be in the position of them all when it comes to the remaining programs. 1:17 we discuss the difficulties of Stanford becoming an independent program like Notre Dame, and the challenges that they would face. 5:50 Money controls all things in college sports, but is it indicative of success? I explain that although these programs may make more money it doesn't always equal success on the field. 7:24 With their status in the air, does recruiting take a hit for Stanford? I break down what Stanford needs to sell to their recruits moving forward. 9:05 With so many schools leaving the Pac-12, all of them will have chances to have new impacts moving forward. I break down why USC seems to be in the position to compete right away and find success. 10:00 The future of Cal is one that feels murky, I explain why them being rivals on the field but partners off the field with Stanford is as vital as it comes for their success. 12:23 This wave of realignment has gone on for a year, but how long do the after effects last. I explain the challenges that I think will arise in the future. 14:00 With football around the corner, we dive into the fact that the Pac-12 is poised for their best year in a minute but how will fans treat it? I break down what will be the farewell tour for the conference. 15:45 Is this direction for college sports the right one, I explain why there will be regrets, questions, and just down right disappointment in where college sports are headed. 18:00 Regional rivalries will suffer in the future, and I explain why they will lose their meaning if college sports continue this direction. #026 Doordash – Ding, dong, your food is here; how food delivery became an app

How well do you know your customer? What would you do to get to know them better? Would you become a pizza delivery driver? Four guys build the first food delivery app to solve a big problem for the restaurant industry. Dave Young: Welcome to the Empire Builders podcast, teaching business owners the not so secret techniques that took famous businesses from mom and pop to major brands. Stephen Semple is a Marketing Consultant, Story Collector and Storyteller. I'm Stephen's sidekick and business partner, Dave Young. Before we get into today's episode a word from our sponsor, which is well it's us, but we're highlighting ads we've written and produced for our clients. So here's one of those. [Armadura Ad] Dave Young: Stephen, I know we want to record another episode here but I'm a little hungry, a little snackish. I know we're sitting here in different cities. I thought maybe I'd get some DoorDash coming in. Stephen Semple: Get some food delivery, baby. Dave Young: It's been a big deal the last year and a half in the whole pandemic thing. Stephen Semple: We're going to talk about DoorDash and you're absolutely right, it has been a big deal and it's interesting when you think about these companies were formed before the pandemic and then the pandemic came along and just boosted them into a whole new stratosphere. There's now a whole collection of them fighting out for dominance. But DoorDash is interesting and there's a few things that we can learn from DoorDash. So DoorDash was founded in Palo Alto, in the fall of 2012 by Tony Xu, Andy Fang, Stanley Tang and Evan Moore. They were all students at Stanford University at the time. Now today, nine years later, so they went from zero to a nine years they're doing $3 billion in sales and have 3,800 employees. They went public in December of 2020 and they raised $3.37 billion. Dave Young: Okay. Stephen Semple: Now I know there's a lot of controversy around DoorDash because they're losing money and there's questions about whether this is really good for the restaurant business but you know what, when somebody goes and in nine years makes a business that goes from zero to being a billion dollar business, I think they're worth paying attention to and there's probably a lesson or two in there. Dave Young: There's some empire building going on there for sure. Stephen Semple: There's a little bit of empire building going on and this is what this podcast is all about. Right? So Tony Xu and the team were students at Stanford. While they were in Stanford, they built an app for small business and specifically restaurants and one of the reasons why Tony Xu was interested in restaurants is when he was growing up, his mom ran a restaurant and he did all sorts of work in restaurants and that's how she got the money and helped him get through school. So he had this natural affinity to wanting to help out restaurants and specifically small restaurants. So Tony built this app and what he started doing was going door to door, visiting potential customers. He got out of the school, had this app, went visited restaurants and he showed them this app. This app was not the DoorDash app, it was something different because what he discovered when he was showing people this app, restaurant tourists were going, yeah, I'm not interested in that but here's my problem. Dave Young: Yeah. Stephen Semple: Here's all these orders that I got in for delivery and I can't fill them because I don't have any delivery. So he, all of a sudden went, holy smoke, the problem these businesses have is food delivery. What I'm going to do is help them get these lost sales. I'm going to create something for food delivery. And he would also realize that it would be much easier to sell an app if the solution was tied to sales. Right? So anytime we tie a solution to sales, it's much easier to get people to buy it. Hark them back to episode 10,

In this episode, Jessica Luther and Amira Rose Davis are together -- in person! -- to breakdown two (of countless) harmful myths in sport. Second, that women's sports exist only to be inspirational. Following this discussion is a preview of Shireen Ahmed's interview with Jashvina Shah and Evan Moore about their book, "Game Misconduct: Hockey's Toxic Culture and How to Fix It." The 26-year-old Californian began kayaking at age 6, ran his first class V rapid at age nine, and was a known name in the California kayaking scene by the time he hit high school. Being the son of Tom Moore – owner of Sierra South Paddle Sports in Kernville, California, Evan grew up on the banks of the Kern River and was part of the whitewater scene practically from birth. Growing up, kayaking wasn't his only passion. Evan was a very accomplished high school football Quarterback which led him to Sacramento to play football at one of the top Junior Colleges in the country. Although he was extremely dedicated to football, something was missing in his life - whitewater kayaking. After a long hard decision, Evan walked away from football to pursue kayaking and has not looked back since. He's been to eight different countries in the last year chasing the biggest and hardest whitewater the planet has to offer. “I've set both local and global goals for myself as a kayaker. I want to become the first person to run every inch of whitewater on the Kern River, and I want to find new whitewater in all corners of the Earth. Doing that requires great gear like Kokatat makes. It's an honor to be on Team Kokatat and representing the company.” Evan's philosophy in life is to ‘pursue what your heart tells you to do, and not let outside influences stop you from achieving your dreams'. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/guy-jeans/support
