"The Lake Isle of Innisfree" by William Butler Yeats I will arise and go now, and go to Innisfree,And a small cabin build there, of clay and wattles made;Nine bean-rows will I have there, a hive for the honey-bee,And live alone in the bee-loud glade. And I shall have some peace there, for peace comes dropping slow,Dropping from the veils of the morning to where the cricket sings; There midnight's all a glimmer, and noon a purple glow,And evening full of the linnet's wings. I will arise and go now, for always night and dayI hear lake water lapping with low sounds by the shore; While I stand on the roadway, or on the pavements grey,I hear it in the deep heart's core. Hi, I'm Grace, and this is the Peter Piper Picked a Peck of Pickled Poems Podcast. It's a poetry podcast by a kid, for kids. Are you ready for today's Pickled Poem? Ian McMillan is joined by poets and poetry lovers for this celebration of language recorded at this year's Hay Festival. The actor, Harry Potter star, Dickens virtuoso and national treasure Miriam Margolyes shares one of her favourite poems, the 19th century poet Robert Browning's 'My Last Duchess'. Miriam invites listeners to imagine the Duke, who is the speaker in the poem, as being like 'Hannibal Lecter' from 'The Silence of the Lambs' - a good planner, who has killed his wife.Irish novelist Kevin Barry has written three novels and four collections of short stories - a master of dialogue, and a beloved voice in the New Yorker magazine. He explores the poetry of the language in his most recent novel 'A Heart in Winter'.Gwenno has won awards and acclaim for her haunting and groundbreaking song-writing and performances. Gwenno's albums Le Kov and Tresor are in Cornish (she has a Welsh mother and a Cornish father). She joins Ian to share her love of the Welsh artist and poet Edrica Huws, who achieved fame late in life as a visual artist. Her poem 'Vingt-et-un' has stayed with Gwenno, and she explains why Edrica is a creative inspiration. The poet Owen Sheers explores a poem with a stand-out line (what we call on The Verb the 'Neon Line'). This week the poem explored is 'The Lake Isle of Innisfree' by the Irish poet W.B. Yeats. Is it the 'bee-loud glade' that has caught Owen's attention, or something else? Ian finds out. Owen has an acute ear for language, with writing often inspired by his interviews with real people, for books like 'The Green Hollow'.

I hear the thrush, and I seeHim alone at the end of the laneNear the bare poplar's tip,Singing continuously. But I know the months all,And their sweet names, April,May and June and October,As you call and call I must rememberWhat died into AprilAnd consider what will be bornOf a fair November; And April I love for whatIt was born of, and NovemberFor what it will die in,What they are and what they are not, While you love what is kind,What you can sing inAnd love and forget inAll that's ahead and behind. I will arise and go now, and go to Innisfree,And a small cabin build there, of clay and wattles made;Nine bean-rows will I have there, a hive for the honey-bee,And live alone in the bee-loud glade. And I shall have some peace there, for peace comes dropping slow,Dropping from the veils of the morning to where the cricket sings; There midnght's all a glimmer, and noon a purple glow,And evening full of the linnet's wings.I will arise and go now, for always night and dayI hear lake water lap ping with low sounds by the shore; While I stand on the roadway, or on the pavements gray,I hear it in the deep heart's core.

The group discussed how the new ballots will likely lead to more activism, especially from smaller investors, and how companies can respond. On a positive note, the new proxy process has spurred many companies to refresh their bylaws to better address this new process.

The Quiet Man is not the greatest collaboration between the Johns (Ford & Wayne, natch), but it IS probably their most light-hearted. It's also a film jammed with Irish stereotypes. Of course, the director himself was Irish, so some slack should be cut. Other aspects of the story and the performances that don't age very well, however, are more of a problem. At least Maureen O'Hara is no shrinking violet, even if her character is unreasonably upset about her bullying brother withholding her dowry. As for Duke Wayne, he gets to play a former boxer with a serious case of PTSD...and he's pretty likable doing it. So travel to Innisfree with the 443rd Ellises' Analysis filling your ears, which might drown out all those annoying neighbours who won't stay out of your business. And I shall have some peace there, for peace comes dropping slow, Dropping from the veils of the morning to where the cricket sings; There midnight's all a glimmer, and noon a purple glow, And evening full of the linnet's wings. I will arise and go now, for always night and day I hear lake water lapping with low sounds by the shore; While I stand on the roadway, or on the pavements grey, I hear it in the deep heart's core.

In our second episode Elizabeth completely ignores the fact that W. B. Yeats has a full first name, as she is on a nickname-only basis with him.   This episode features cinematographer, music video director, and filmmaker Will DaRosa. Will's rapidly-lengthening resume testifies to his dedication to his craft and his growing reputation as one of the fresh talents to work with on the Los Angeles indie-genre scene. As director/dp, his music videos have aired on MTV and VH1 and been viewed millions of times on Youtube. He is also the co-host/co-creator of 2001 The Podcast, which is available everywhere podcasts can be listened to.    In this episode Will discusses his love for cinema, finding this poem through a Steven Spielberg film, and worrying that maybe as a white man he shouldn't be “that guy” who talks about poetry. There is ample discussion over how popcorn reading in school made Will nervous and Elizabeth feel highly prepared. Also Audrey Hepburn gets a mention.   “This poem is…  it's about humanity. [...] And then you have a robot reading it, there's just something chilling and terrifying about that… you have a robot that nearly is about to cry listening to another robot read a poem written by a human 300 years before it's, I don't know, the ending of that movie is chilling, but this is like a midpoint in the film, and you're really not quite sure. You know the character's journey, what they want, at this point in the film, but when he gets this poem, it kind of breaks his brain a little bit.” - Will DaRosa   Timestamps:  00:00:25 Guest Introduction 00:02:55 Poem Reading (Will) 00:05:32 Author Info 00:07:00 Will's Relationship to the Poem 00:17:03 Pause / Poem Reading (Elizabeth) 00:25:05 Reflection & Offering   Poem & Links: The Stolen Child by W.
