Today's guest, Gail Devers, was a rising star in the world of running, winning title after title. Until her body began to betray her, literally consuming itself and threatening to end her career just as it was just getting going, let alone her life. Maybe even more distressing, though, was a level of systematic gaslighting for years, doctors kept saying nothing was wrong, but she knew. And she kept pushing for answers until she found one, then painstakingly rebuilt her health, her life, and stepped back onto the track to do what no one else thought possible. Gail became a nine-time World Champion, three-time Olympic gold track and field medalist, and a five-time Olympian. Now a fierce advocate for raising awareness for Grave's Disease, which she was finally diagnosed with, she's made a name for herself as one of the fastest women alive for almost two decades. Although the odds were seemingly against Gail when she discovered her diagnosis, from her health suffering to her self-confidence taking a major hit as a result. It made Gail's recovery and comeback moment years later in the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona even more special. But her story is also so much bigger than running. She's become a fierce advocate to raise awareness for Grave's disease and its accompanying TED symptoms. In my chat with her today, we take it back to where it all first started, remembering what motivated her to step onto the track in the first place, and we make our way up to the moment that finally changed everything for Gail: receiving her first diagnosis. We talk about how overwhelming yet crucial it was for Gail to serve as her own health advocate during her search for answers, how goal-setting played its role in her recovery and healing journey, and why it's so important for us all to take back control of our lives against anything that tries to take it away from us. This talk with Gail comes at a special time since July is Grave's Disease Awareness Month. So buckle in, and come along this ride with us today and learn how one woman was determined to finish the race that she started, even if her life depended on it. So excited to share this conversation with you.You can find Gail at: More About Thyroid Eye Disease | InstagramIf you LOVED this episode you'll also love the conversations we had with Rich Roll about navigating his journey through addiction, recommitting himself to health and wellness, and eventually becoming an ultra-endurance athlete.Check out our offerings & partners: My New Book Sparked | My New Podcast SPARKEDVisit Our Sponsor Page For a Complete List of Vanity URLs & Discount Codes.Cymbiotika: Cymbiotika provides cutting-edge, pure products that improve energy levels, focus, physical stamina & overall health. USA Olympic Gold Medalist Gail Devers joins the show to speak about her charity, "Listen to your Eyes" mobile event next weekend at Atlanta Station, and her coaching of young track athletes of today.
"It was honestly a great experience. This is my first year not being sponsored so I felt like I had a chip on my shoulder this whole season just trying to prove that I am deserving of something...It was nice to see all of my hard work paying off and do something I've never done before and something that hasn't been done in the U.S. in a couple of years." One of the best stories to come out of the 2022 World Indoor Track and Field Championships in Belgrade, Serbia was Team USA's Mikiah Brisco coming away with a silver medal in the women's 60m in 6.99 seconds. That is the fastest time by an American woman since Gail Devers in 1999. Switzerland's Mujinga Kambundji won gold in 6.96 to move into No. 4 on the all-time list. Brisco's Team USA teammate Marybeth Sant-Price took bronze in 7.04. In the first "Out of The Blocks" conversation with Jasmine Todd, Mikiah sat down to talk about her time in Serbia and how she's looking to keep the momentum going into the outdoor season ahead of the U.S. Championships and World Athletics Championships in Eugene, Oregon this summer. ▶ Follow Jasmine: Twitter | Instagram ▶ Follow Mikiah: Twitter | Instagram

As Congress puts together a special committee to investigate the January 6th insurrection, several Republican House members visited the U.S.-Mexico border accompanied by a right-wing YouTube personality who participated in the riot. CNN Senior Political Analyst David Gergen and Former Congressman Denver Riggleman discuss how this could impact Republicans. In Florida, the death toll rises in the condo collapse. And another condo building in a nearby town is evacuated due to unsafe conditions. Plus, CNN’s Randi Kaye reports on a reunion between two Champlain Tower residents. One helped the other get out of the building. And sprinter Sha'Carri Richardson was suspended one month from the U.S. Olympic Track and Field team after testing positive for THC, a chemical found in marijuana. Richardson was poised to be the first American to possibly win the gold medal in the 100-meter women's race since Gail Devers won back in 1996. Devers talks to AC360 about the track star’s punishment. Join me, as I talk with Gail Devers, world-renowned track star and 3x Olympic gold medalist, who has been living with Graves' disease and symptoms of Thyroid Eye Disease (TED) for over 30 years. Gail will share her inspiring journey to gold in spite of her near career-ending symptoms of Graves' disease and her surprise in discovering her eye symptoms may be caused by Thyroid Eye Disease – a separate condition that can affect people living with Graves'. I mean, there is nothing else to say but we have a fifth tile and it's the one and only, GAIL DEVERS! We can only be so blessed to have such a great person with us this first week of December. The sprinter/hurdler, who just happen to be a BEAST at them both, graced our conversations with her perspectives on what it takes to be a sprinter AND a hurdler at a high level. She also let us know who her G.O.A.T track and field athlete is and her opinion on what she would do if she was leading World Athletics. Before we let Ms Devers go, we asked for her medal predictions...on the 4x1!!!!! After we relieve Ms Devers of her duties, we speak on an aspect of COVID that people are softly speaking about and how to address it. The guys reflect on which coach might have had the most influence on the sport of track and field and lastly, what is the most bootleg apparatus that you have rigged to achieve a desire result? Hear what the guys have to say about that! Mr. Clyde obliges us in Rapid Fire this week, yes I NOW realize that I have gone out of order...but there is one answer that leaves me mouth wide-open! What about you?! Sit back, grab your fav winter drink and enjoy another episode of Lucious, Lamar and Clyde!
Carrie is joined LIVE by fellow Olympians Paula Radcliffe, John Godina, and Gail Devers at the America’s Marathon Weekend Experience prior to the 2020 Olympic Marathon Trials! “Abide in me, as I also abide in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me.” John 15:4“Keep your dreams alive. Understand to achieve anything requires faith and belief in yourself, vision, hard work, determination, and dedication. Remember, all things are possible for those who believe.” - Gail Devers
The 1992 Olympics in Barcelona was where Gail Devers won the Women's 100 Meter Race. It was a photo finish and could only be decided by slow motion. Once the times were announced, Gail Devers won, but the person who came in 5th was only one tenth of a second behind Devers. Imagine if she had quit on second too early, she would have lost the gold. Is there a good time to give up? Let's talk about that on Chewing the Frat.
The new Major League Baseball season starts this weekend set against the back drop of a new era in relations between Cuba and the USA. The sport has always played a significant role politically between the two counties, not least back in the 1960s for a young man from Maryland, USA at the start of his sporting career. Tom Brown is one of very few people who have played professional football, he won two Super Bowls, and Major League baseball! He's also unique in being the only man picked to play by the President! Women’s Footballs Greatest Fight: We hear from former England star Anita Asante, one of the black players representing Swedish side Rosengrad, who were subject to alleged racist abuse from fans as they played away to Frankfurt in the Women’s Champions League. Referee-ndum: We look at how football might have a bearing on the way people vote in the upcoming EU referendum, and on how that result could in turn potentially change football in Britain. On Thin Ice: We’re at the World Figure Skating Championships in Boston looking at how an athlete chooses their music and hear about some of the more unusual choices! Boxing Clever: We look at the events surrounding the recent Nick Blackwell fight which left the middleweight in an induced coma, but just how dangerous is boxing? We uncover some surprising facts about the world’s most dangerous sports. Sporting Witness… heads back to 1992 when American sprinter Gail Devers was the surprise winner of the women's 100 metres at the Olympic Games. An incredible feat in anyone's books, but made all the more remarkable because Gail had only just recovered from a rare disease which nearly led to her feet being amputated.
