I thank You also for my Catholic Faith and ask Your help that I may grow in fidelity by prayer, by works of charity and penance, by reflection on Your Word, and by regular participation in the Sacraments of Penance and the Holy Eucharist. You gave Saint Monica a spirit of selfless love manifested in her constant prayer for the conversion of her son Augustine. Inspired by boundless confidence in Your power to move hearts, and by the success of her prayer. I ask the grace to imitate her constancy in my prayer for [name(s)] who no longer share(s) in the intimate life of Your Catholic family. Grant through my prayer and witness that (he/she/they) may be open to the promptings of Your Holy Spirit, and return to loving union with Your Church. Grant also that my prayer be ever hopeful and that I may never judge another, for You alone can read hearts. I ask this through Christ, our Lord. They do lend a briny, sort of salty flavor which we love. Ingredients: Spaghetti 1/2 pound whole-wheat or regular spaghettiSeveral handfuls fresh baby spinach leaves, arugula, mixed greens – whatever – a good two cups or so 1 large clove garlic, minced2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil plus more for drizzling1-2 teaspoons dried basil 2-3 tablespoons lemon juice 1-3 tablespoons capers, rinsed – I used a generous 1 tablespoon and smooshed them down a bit1/2 teaspoon ea salt and pepper, plus more for seasoning Fish 1 tablespoon olive oil3-4 (4-ounce) pieces salmon For garnish: toasted bread crumbs and Parmesan Instructions Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil over high heat. Add the pasta and cook until tender but still firm to the bite, stirring occasionally, about 8 to 10 minutes. Right before it’s done, stir in greens to let them wilt a little bit. Now while the pasta is cooking, in a large bowl, stir together minced garlic, olive oil, basil, capers and lemon juice. Set aside until pasta is done. Meanwhile, cook the salmon. Drizzle a tablespoon of olive oil into a nonstick pan and get it hot over medium heat. Season fish to taste, then cook a couple minutes or so on each side – it won’t take long to cook. I usually let it cook to what I call the “cook line” before turning – look at the side of the fish and when it’s cooked halfway up, then turn. Don’t overcook!! After pasta is done, drain – just use tongs to pull the pasta and greens out of the water and let a little water cling to it – helps moisten the sauce. Put in large bowl, then add the garlic, olive oil, basil, capers and lemon juice. Toss and add salt and pepper. Drizzle with a bit more oil. Put on plates and serve salmon on top. Sprinkle with toasted bread crumbs and Parmesan. How to toast bread crumbs: Just heat a tiny bit of butter or olive oil in a skillet, stir in fresh bread crumbs until golden, stirring all the while. This only takes a couple of minutes. ***** Brady Stiller, author of Your Life is a Story Full list of guestsSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

All for Jesus, all for Mary, all to imitate thee, O patriarch St. Joseph! This shall be my motto for life and eternity. Amen. ***** RECIPES FROM RITA: SLOW COOKER MAC AND CHEESE 1 pound elbow macaroni or your favorite short pasta. 4 cups/1 pound sharp cheddar cheese 2-1/2 cups whole milk and 1/2 cup heavy cream (or sub in all milk) 1/4 cup (4 tablespoons) butter 1 teaspoon salt or to taste 1/2 teaspoon black pepper or to taste 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder – optional but good – we like it To give it a kick – couple shakes cayenne powder or flakes. I usually add this after macaroni & cheese has finished cooking, so that I can scoop out some macaroni & cheese before adding it for those who don’t like heat. Instructions Cook macaroni per package instructions for al dente BUT make sure not to overcook the pasta, as it will cook more once placed in the slow cooker. Spray slow cooker with cooking spray or use a cooking bag. Turn on low and set timer for 2-1/2 hours then add the macaroni to the cooker. Add milk and cream to macaroni and stir to combine. Reserve 1-1/2 cups cheese for the last part of the recipe. Add the remaining cheese (2-1/2 cups) to cooker and stir. Add butter, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder to the macaroni and stir to combine. Place the lid on cooker and continue to cook for two hours on low, stirring occasionally. After the 2 hour mark, add the reserved cheese over the top of the macaroni and place the lid back on the slow cooker. Cook the mac and cheese for an additional 15 minutes or so just until the cheese has melted. Now stir in red pepper. Keep on warm setting until ready to serve. Tips: Can I use different cheese to make the recipe? American cheese and Velveeta cheese. They melt really well, and you end up with a very creamy cheese sauce. For a spicier flavor, use pepper jack cheese. You can also add a little parmesan cheese (or Romano) to give mac and cheese a little boost of flavor. Can I add other ingredients to the mac and cheese? How about broccoli or peas? Cook them before adding at the last minute. ***** Brady Stiller, author of Your Life is a Story: GK Chesterton and the Paradox of Freedom Full list of guestsSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Season to taste with a little salt. Meanwhile, finely chop together the parsley leaves, lemon zest and up to 1⁄2 cup celery leaves – if you don’t have any celery leaves, no worries. Transfer to a small bowl, grate the garlic clove into the bowl, season with salt and stir to combine.Remove the chicken from pot and transfer to bowl. Using two forks, shred the chicken into pieces, then stir it back into the soup. Remove from heat, stir in the butter and season to taste with salt. Stir in the lemon juice a little at a time until the soup is bright but still tastes like chicken. (You may not use the full 1⁄2 cup juice.) Divide the soup among bowls and top with the parsley- lemon mixture. (The soup, minus the lemon juice and parsley mixture, can be refrigerated for up to 3 days; the rice will absorb liquid as it sits, so add more chicken broth when reheating. Add the lemon juice and fresh herb garnish just before serving.)Meanwhile, finely chop together the parsley leaves, lemon zest and up to 1⁄2 cup celery leaves. The Apostles were but soft and yielding clay till they were baked hard by the fire of the Holy Ghost. So, good Lord, do now in like manner with Thy Church militant, change and make the soft and slippery earth into hard stones. Set in Thy Church strong and mighty pillars that may suffer and endure great labors–watching, poverty, thirst, hunger, cold and heat–which also shall not fear the threatenings of princes, persecution, neither death, but always persuade and think with themselves to suffer with a good will, slanders, shame, and all kinds of torments, for the glory and laud of Thy Holy Name. By this manner, good Lord, the truth of Thy Gospel shall be preached throughout the world. Therefore, merciful Lord, exercise Thy mercy, show it indeed upon Thy Church. Amen. ***** Sally Read, author of The Mary Pages Full list of guestsSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Did the Jewish people and early Christians accept the Deuterocanon? Gary Michuta joins us.
In this episode of The Cordial Catholic, I'm joined by the renown expert on the Bible, apologist Gary Michuta. With bucketloads of insight, wisdom, and decades of research and experience Gary explains exactly how the Bible came out of the Catholic Church and why understanding the origins of the Bible is so important when talking to our non-Catholic Christian friends – who love their Bibles!Gary explains the process used to discern which books of the Bible belonged in the Canon, how this began in the very early Church councils, and why the Bibles supported by the Reformers actually removed books that had originally been in the Bible, accepted by all Christians, all along. It's a fascinating and informative look at any extremely important area of apologetics – something at the very core of Protestant Christianity.
