225. Welcome back. It's time to get serious and take a long hard look at some of the problems that have been created by the push toward electronic road safety. I'm going to explore a few of the ideas and I want to get guests on to discuss their position in the road safety arena. Her songs have been recorded by Australian music royalty such as John Farnham, Olivia Newton-John and Paul Kelly. Melinda is an incredible live performer and has enjoyed huge touring success. After recording an album of Doris Day songs in tribute to her hero, Mary encouraged Melinda to write a full theatre show about Doris. She did. The tour which accompanied her #1 hit album ‘Melinda Does Doris' toured the country extensively and even sold out the Sydney Opera House Concert Hall twice!Having had a successful career for 40 years, she continues her innovative progression with the launch of an independent record label and, I understand, a new album early next year. Rock guru Glenn A Baker described her as one of this country's truly important artists. But, as is often the case, the achievements and accolades don't tell the whole story. In 2018, as a result of 30 years of relentless work combined with a perfectionist streak, Melinda was overcome with depression. Lee Kernaghan OAM, in full Lee Raymond Kernaghan, (born April 15, 1964, Corryong, Victoria, Australia), Australian popular singer who reinvigorated Australian country music in the 1990s, synthesizing traditional country themes with energetic styles of contemporary rock and roll and images of an evolving Australian rural culture.Kernaghan was the eldest child of Ray Kernaghan, who rose to great popularity as a country music singer during Lee's teen years. In the mid-1970s Lee formed his first band with his brother Greg and his sister Tania—the latter of whom also went on to become a successful country singer.Kernaghan is an Australian country music singer, songwriter and guitarist. Lee spent his formative years growing up in the Riverina country of Southern New south Wales. Kernaghan has won four ARIA Awards and three APRA Awards, and has sold over two million albums, and as of 2021, he has won 38 Golden Guitars at the Country Music Awards of Australia (second to Slim Dusty).Kernaghan was the 2008 Australian of the Year in recognition of his support for rural and regional Australia. Kernaghan was the recipient of the Outstanding Achievement Award at the 2015 ARIA Awards, for Spirit of the Anzacs.

Shane Nicholson really is the quiet achiever of the Aussie music industry. Nicholson's story begins with Brisbane band Pretty Violet Stain in the late 90s and then a magnificent solo career. After winning 3 ARIAs, 11 Golden Guitars (with 5 more nominations this year), it's clear he's one of the great Aussie song writers. His next album, "Living in Colour" is out now and as you check out the tracks from 'And You Will Have Your Way' and 'Helena' you see how the story has continued from the last album. It's clearly the next chapter, just 2.5 years later. Peter Ross is the Manager of Entertainment Venues in the regional city of Tamworth. He acknowledges that “A strong arts scene is recognised as one of the elements that attracts and keeps people in regional centres”.He is responsible for programming and leading the city's live performance and conference venues - the Capitol Theatre Tamworth, Tamworth Town Hall and the Tamworth Regional Entertainment and Conference Centre. Ross has changed the direction of theatre in Tamworth and raised the bar on local theatre. Bringing outstanding artists and increasing audience numbers.In the home of Country Music he has also assumed the role of Executive Producer and Director of the Golden Guitar awards. And celebrated Community Theatre - an opportunity for community to express their artistic leanings and find a valuable social outlet.A self-confessed ‘jack of all trades’ his theatrical life leading to this position saw him navigate a variety of roles on and off the stage. Each has informed and given terrific insight to frame his work today.Growing up in Newcastle, he initially set forth studying visual arts. An opportunity presented itself for a Stage Manager at The Hunter Valley Theatre Company, which he took up with glee. This lead to onstage roles with the company and with the theatre in education group, Freewheels Theatre Company and the original production of Nick Enright’s Property of the Clan.Study at The West Australian Academy of Performing Arts followed, in the Musical Theatre course. Ross developed his performance skills while also writing a musical and finessing his directing ability.He then juggled a series of personas as performer, producer, director and resident director on a series of productions that included Jon English’s Buskers and Angels, Summer Rain at The Sydney Theatre Company, Mary Bryant at The Ensemble Theatre and Hugh Jackman’s Arena tour of The Boy From Oz.Ross was ‘on the ground’ and took Producing and Directing roles presenting Musicals with the Kookaburra Musical Theatre Company. It was an exciting venture that promised great theatre experiences but sadly did not survive its rocky beginning. Queensland's James Blundell was named the 2019 inductee into the Australian Country Music Hall of Fame — Australian country music's highest honour.

Beccy Cole won 2019 Female Artists of the Year for her album Lioness that was completely produced by females and featured female musicians. It is the 11th Golden Guitar Award for Cole and her fifth Female Artist of the Year award. In her speech she thanks her wife, fellow country music singer and songwriter Libby O'Donovan, and acknowledged how great it was to be celebrating their one-year wedding anniversary. 

Troy won Heritage song of the year for the eerie Shadows on the Hill, a song that tells of an Aboriginal massacre that happened in the 19th century near Grafton.

Adam Brand shares his 20-year journey from a young man with a dream to an award winning musician with hit songs to his name.

Kasey Chambers and The Fireside Disciples won the Tradition Country Album of the Year at the 2019 Golden Guitar Awards for their album Campfire. The album features songs that could only be played around a campfire, and is a tribute to Chambers' upbringing in the remote outback of Australia.

There were tears as Felicity Urquhart, Kevin Bennett and Lyn Bowtell accepted their Golden Guitar Award for Vocal Collaboration of the Year.

The Hunter Valley's Travis Collins was named male artist of the year, taking home his seventh Golden Guitar win in three years for his album The Brave and the Broken. The album features many songs paying tribute to volunteers and how people help each other out. He performed the song It's Just Music, an uplifting tune paying tribute to unsung heroess, live on stage.

This husband and wife duo performed their intimate song about a cheating spouse and the lasting hurt it creates at this years Golden Guitar Awards.

The Wolfe Brothers were big winners on the night taking home four out of five awards. Their haul included Song of the Year and Contemporary Album of the Year for their release Country Heart. The trio — Nick and Tom Wolfe and Brodie Rainbird — came from humble beginnings in rural Tasmania to be named as the runners-up in a reality television show in 2012. Since then, their country rock style has seen them tour with the industry's elite, including Lee Kernaghan.

Hailing from Kurri Kurri, Tori Forsyth is a rising start in country circles. She performed her second single, In The Morning, live at the 2019 Golden Guitar Awards Show.
