After deep diving on INXS' 2010 Original Sin Album last week, we take a detailed look at the album's legacy, the influence of Chris Murphy on the band during this period and some of the exciting tour/setlists performances that accompanied this album release. Having seen the band perform at Day on the Green at Rockford Estates Melbourne, Victoria in February 2011, the setlist provides an interesting backdrop to the sounds and styles of the album in a real time “live setting” with support bands including Train, Baby Animals and The Models. The influence of Chris Murphy rejoining the band again in a creative and supporting role cannot be underestimated. He took the pressure and burden off the remaining 5 members of INXS to prove their worth and bona fides. Rather, he instilled faith and direction in the band to embrace their past, thrust their catalogue and pursue a band to brand strategy that inspired the band to look back and re-record the tracks that ended up being the Original Sin Album. With a jam packed news section, tribute song for the ages and a whole lot more, we present to you another vital episode of INXS: Access all Areas. Interview by Kyra-Jade CoombsIn my opinion, The Living End are a staple in the Australian music scene. They have graciously given us 8 albums and if you break them down over the years, you find hit after hit. Their debut album (self-titled) is one of those albums you can play start to finish and happily immerse yourself right into their music and feel nothing but pure joy.HEAVY took the chance to have a chat with singer/ guitar player Chris Cheney to see what's new in the world of The Living End…From the 15-17 of August The Living End are playing the sold-out Mundi Mundi Bash in Broken Hill with a few other huge names like Baby Animals (my absolute favourite!), James Reyne, Jon Stevens, Ian Moss, Daryl Braithwaite and Diesel to name a few. The fact that it has sold out in outback Broken Hill is amazing news for a health check of our Australian music industry. We are slowly getting back on track.Chris immediately laughed, saying it's surreal that although he grew up listening to most of these guys; he never thought he would see the day where he could call them mates and share the stage with them. A far cry from starting out and playing the front bar of the Epsy!Fans would be happy to hear that they are chipping away at creating their 9th album, and it's said to be ‘the most aggressive album' they have put together in years. If you jump onto The Living End social media, you can see a few behind the scenes shots that look like a bunch of fun.I must admit, I was absolutely stoked to be able to interview Chris. I had 1000 questions to ask him and could honestly chat for hours. We covered lots of cool shit like playing in Australia's golden days of the Big Day Out tours, getting rotation Triple J and appearing on Recovery – Channel [V] to having that telepathic connections with his band mates, giving way to improve jams that can either be a trainwreck or magic, in his words! You'll get a glimpse into his creative space, where he's got a set-up to appease any creative mood. An area for producing music, painting and even a bar. What more could you want, really?Being someone who's so passionate about music, I wondered what band or album Chris would give his younger self, or bring to his attention earlier if he could go back in time. To my surprise, he said early Cold Chisel… I guess I just assumed that would have been a staple. Yet of course being someone who grew up smashing the shredders of the world like Eddie Van Halen then going onto 50s music, Aussie pub rock wasn't the path they were on, nor wanted to. Which is interesting to think about the full circle moment from starting out as a young band being told to ‘play Aussie rock' to being put on the huge bills with the original Australian pub rock music pioneers and staying true to who they are.Chris is a very humble guy and genuinely - so stoked to have reached the status that they have today with The Living End. He is the kind of person you want as a role model for young musicians and says there's a space for every type of music, which sings true to his kind nature. The Living End boys still have “a lot of fuel in the tank” and thankfully aren't showing signs of slowing down!If you were lucky enough to secure a ticket to the Mundi Mundi Bash then get out there and have the time of your life! And if you didn't then that will teach you not to sleep on a good thing!Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/heavy-music-interviews--2687660/support.
This week pour yourself a pint of Victoria Bitter and join us in welcoming back the CEO of Aussie Pub Rock: Craig Elvin! This time he's with us live on American soil, so we decided to play a special version of the drinking game we call, “WILD CARD”! Photo credit: Just Ignore The Camera PhotographyInterview by Kris PetersBundaberg metal outfit Ineffigy have made a handful of treks to the big smoke of Brisbane and left a sonic trail of destruction each time. With a unique and easily digestible blending of a multitude of genres, coupled with an entertaining and dynamic live performance, Ineffigy are one of those bands you just know will make a large dent on the national music scene if given the chance. And the first of those chances comes on October 14 when the band opens Lighthouse Rock Festival in their hometown, which is headlined by The Screaming Jets, Baby Animals and The Living End. The feat is even more impressive when you take into account Ineffigy won their spot via a battle of bands hosted by Triple M – a radio stage not known for favouring heavier bands of any capacity. It is just reward for the boys who also spearhead Bundaberg's East Coast Alternative, a dedicated group of musicians striving to build the music scene in the region by hosting touring bands, providing access to recorded live music and more. This Saturday night Ineffigy play at Metal United World Wide at Bundaberg's Sugarland Tavern, kickstarting a busy period for the band who have also recently released a live album, Live At The OBT.HEAVY caught up with bass player Tobias, guitarist Jess and vocalist Joey to find out more.“It's been awesome,” Joey started, speaking about their recent win at the Battle Of The Bands. “We get to play with The Living End, and I'm a massive, massive Living End fan.”We broach the subject of a heavy band taking out top honours at a Triple M competition, with all three smiling at the thought.“It shocked us just as much as it shocked everybody else, don't worry,” Joey laughed. “We usually just go into those things because they're a heap of fun and exposes us to a different crowd of people. It opens us up to the more stable local base of music fans, but no, we didn't expect to win it. If you go back and watch it we were just as stunned as everybody else.”“When they said our name I didn't even hear it,” smiled Tobias. “I was just standing there, and they're saying ‘come forward', and I was like, what for? Did we win?”In the full interview, the boys talk more about winning the Battle Of The Bands, who they are most looking forward to sharing the stage with at Lighthouse Rocks, if they are nervous about playing, what they hope to take out of the opportunity, having their music and an interview featured on Triple M, the three song recording component of the prize and what they plan to record with it, their recent live album, East Coast Alternative and what they hope to achieve as part of it, the Bundaberg metal scene, tonight's Metal United World Wide show and more.Unfortunately, our chat was cut short by Brisbane's fickle weather, but for more information on the band and upcoming events visit https://www.facebook.com/InEffigyOfficial

Its an absolute honour to welcome to the podcast founding member of arguably the biggest Australian rock band in the early 90's, and one of my all time favourite bands, Guitarist Dave Leslie. (The first album I ever bought was Baby Animals). Dave was born in Sydney Australia, he learnt guitar at the early age before playing in some local bands. He formed the Cold Chisel tribute band Swing Shift and gained a large following. After trying out for Rose Tattoo, he was later asked to try out for a new band with Suzi DeMarchi on vocals. Soon after they formed Baby Animals and brought out their debut self titled album. The album went x4 Platinum and went Number 1 in the ARIA Charts. The band won 3 ARIA Awards- Best Debut Single "Early Warning" , Best Debut Album, Best Break Through Band. The band toured the world with Bryan Adams, Van Halen and Robert Plant. Baby Animals broke up in 1996 and Dave then played guitar for Australian Rock Icons- Jimmy Barnes and Richard Clapton. The band reformed in 2007 to the high anticipated reunion tour. Baby Animals continue to perform live and record new albums. Dave's also plays in Truck. @daveleslie64 @babyanimalsmusic www.daveleslie.com.au https://tellcraigyourstory.podbean.com https://www.linktr.ee/tellcraigyourstory @tellcraigyourstory Youtube Channel https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCcCr6P3Ja395SkapnECvOFw?view_as=subscriber #daveleslie #tellcraigyourstory #babyanimals #swignshift #truck #rawbrit #guitarist #suzidemarchi #vanhalen #edwardvanhalen #bryanadams #robertplant #jimmybarnes #coldchisel #richardclapton #grinspoon #rosetattoo #screamingjets #theangels #extreme #inxs #davidletterman #shavedanddangerous #ariaawardwinners #mikechapman #nunobettencort #thisisnottheend #mtv #morecowbell
One has toured with Taylor Swift, has 12 x Golden Guitars and 11 x CMC awards to his name; the other is a 5 x Golden Guitar nominee and has played bass with some of Australia's most revered acts. Combined they share over 50 million streams and today, Adam Brand and Matt Cornell join forces to deliver the rousing new single, ‘Our Church'. Since departing the Baby Animals over a decade ago for a gig with Adam Brand, Matt Cornell has walked the path of country music. The pair quickly became thick as thieves. When a global pandemic threatened to demolish that path, their comradery gave them resilience. “Before ‘Our Church' was a song, it was our weekly catch up with a couple of my close brothers during covid,” recalls Brand. Both being ‘foodies' who frequently share their culinary skills with social media fans, it was only natural to host the catch ups at cafés all over QLDs Gold Coast. “We found it was helping us deal with the mental anguish of our industry being on its knees, the work & money we had lost. In particular, I was really struggling,” adds Cornell. “But I found solace in my mates, in our little catch up every week. Is being weird a good thing? In Oregon, it is – and we're going to find out why. Join us for the first part of our documentary road trip, following award-winning travel writer Aaron Millar from Portland to Eugene. This episode we're taking the Northern Culture Trail. We're going to discover Portland's favorite food carts, sample food from around the world and go on a secret bar crawl to hidden local spots. “Portland is the rebel base of the Star Wars universe, we're sticking it to the forces of normal,” Dresden of Throw Snakes told us. We're going to have some fun! From there we hit the road south to the Willamette Valley to sip some of the most delicious Pinot Noir grapes in the world. But this isn't pinky up drinking, this is down-to-earth wine-tasting in craft vineyards, surrounded by the beautiful rolling vines of the Dundee Hills. Lastly, we visit the Eugene Saturday Market, Oregon's premier art market, to meet the makers who helped turn this artist community into one of the most thriving creative hubs in the Pacific Northwest. We finish at Harmonic Laboratory, an experimental artist collective pushing the boundaries of visual arts, soundscapes, and technology. It's going to blow your mind. Through it all, we'll reveal why, here in Oregon, weird isn't strange; it's the spark from which the best things grow. Everyone likes random facts about cute animals. That's part of what we're doing this episode. The 20th Anniversary of Hancock Shaker Village's Baby Animals Festival opens tomorrow - Saturday, April 16. Much of her work used imagery of baby animals to spur big impact for conservation. On this episode of Talking Apes we're going to be exploring the way we think, interpret and talk about conservation and wildlife through the camera lens. We'll also touch on the challenges of being an incredibly talented and dedicated female photographer in a field traditionally dominated by men.Suzi's images have graced the covers of over 100 magazines such as Smithsonian Magazine, BBC Wildlife, TIME and Ranger Rick. Suzi joins us for a thoughtful — personal look at conservations meaning and its importance in our lives through images, and how that's brought to life in her new book, NEW ON EARTH: Baby Animals in the WildSee more of Suzi's work: https://www.suzieszterhas.com/Support the show (https://globio.org/donate)
