This is an Encore Presentation of my February 2024 episode featuring Bert Berns and Nat Weiss, two giants of the music industry, yet both relatively unknown to the public. Bert Berns was one of the foremost songwriters and producers of pop and rhythm and blues in the ‘60s. His hits include “Twist And Shout”, which The Beatles took to international fame; “Piece Of My Heart”, Janis Joplin's gigantic hit; “Hang On Sloopy”, the mega-hit for The McCoys; “Cry To Me”, a hit for Solomon Burke and later for The Rolling Stones; and “Tell Him”, a great early ‘60s hit for the Exciters. His producer credits include “Brown Eyed Girl”, Van Morrison's first smash hit. Nat Weiss was a lawyer by training. He became the U.S. business partner of Brian Epstein, the manager of The Beatles, and was Brian's right hand man in America for the band, including for all the merchandising opportunities coming their way. Nat expanded this relationship and began suggesting artists for Brian to manage, including The Cyrkle (“Red Rubber Ball”). They formed a management company together and, after Brian's death, Nat continued the business, managing artists like James Taylor.---------------------------------------------The Follow Your Dream Podcast:Top 1% of all podcasts with Listeners in 200 countries! For more information and other episodes of the podcast click here. To subscribe to the podcast click here.To subscribe to our weekly Follow Your Dream Podcast email click here.To Rate and Review the podcast click here.“Dream With Robert”. Whistling, clicking our heels, swinging round lampposts and lobbing the odd shiny florin to a flaxen-haired child, this week's free-wheeling navigation of the rock and roll boulevard alights upon the following hot topics … … why Indie music is like student drama. … what the Beatles achieved in “the 585 most productive minutes in the history of recorded music" (aka the recording of Please Please Me) and the albums released the same day every decade after.  … Death & Vanilla, Frightened Rabbit and – to deafening applause – the welcome return of the Stackwaddy game. … albums performed as ‘plays' (by musicians who didn't make them). A band featuring Clem Burke and Glen Matlock has just toured playing Lust For Life in its entirety. What others would work as well? The Band's second album? Liege & Lief? The Ramones? Hot Rats? … unappetising song titles. … what Bob Dylan did so “my mother would finally think I'm somebody”. And how his Mum reacted to his success.   … and why bands end sets with Country Roads, Mustang Sally and Twist And Shout.Subscribe to Word In Your Ear on Patreon for early and ad-free access to every future Word Podcast!: https://www.patreon.com/wordinyourear Get bonus content on Patreon Hosted on Acast. We're in the middle of winter and it seems like a good time to snuggle up with a movie. We've sampled some of the season's offerings and we start with "Knock at the Cabin" starrring Dave Bautista. It's about a girl and her parents who are taken hostage by armed strangers who demand that the family make a choice to avert the apocalypse. And it's directed by M Night Shyamalan who has a fondness for twists in his movies. Bill Bregoli saw it and he'll tell you what he can without spoling anything. Neil Rosen tells us about "You People" starring Jonah Hill and Lauren London as an interracial couple whose parents just can't get along. And Bill McCuddy fills us in on "The Snow Girl" which is a Netflix series about, you guessed it, a missing girl. We also discuss "to Leslie" which is about aWest Texas single mother who wins the lottery and squanders it just as fast, leaving behind a world of heartbreak. It's star, Andrea Riseborough got herself a controversial Oscar nomination for her work in it. There's more, so grab a hot toddy and listen in!This show is part of the Spreaker Prime Network, if you are interested in advertising on this podcast, contact us at https://www.spreaker.com/show/4137244/advertisement

While the song's lyrics contain a traditional love message of his feelings for his girlfriend, it's the ending of the song we want to focus on today where Axl asks the question, “Where do we go from here?”

The Beatles performed before 18,000 fans at the Convention Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey, on August 30, 1964. Among those in attendance were Barry's aunt, Carole Hummel, and family friends Carol "Cris" Crisafulli Johnson, Joan Bacon, and Marie Falzone. Despite the fact that Barry has been a huge Beatles fan since high school, he finally found out about this while discussing our recent Tripping Walruses episode with his aunt! The night before the concert, they stayed at the Lafayette Motel. At 2:15 PM, they left in the back of a fish truck, and a short distance from the Convention Hall, they switched to their waiting tour bus. The Beatles performed their standard 12-song set: Twist And Shout, You Can't Do That, All My Loving, She Loves You, Things We Said Today, Roll Over Beethoven, Can't Buy Me Love, If I Fell, I Want To Hold Your Hand, Boys, A Hard Day's Night, and Long Tall Sally. After the show, The Beatles left the venue in a laundry truck, as their limousine was too conspicuous. That night, they stayed at the Marquis De Lafayette Hotel in nearby Cape May, where they stayed for a few days prior to their September 2nd concert in Philadelphia. During their stay in Atlantic City, John Lennon and Paul McCartney wrote two songs for the Beatles For Sale album: Every Little Thing and What You're Doing.
