Gospel of Luke chapter 18 teaches powerful lessons on prayer, humility, and wholehearted devotion. Jesus shares the parable of the persistent widow to show the importance of never giving up in prayer, and contrasts the proud Pharisee with the humble tax collector to reveal that God honors humility over self-righteousness. He welcomes children, showing the kind of faith required to enter the kingdom of God, and challenges the rich ruler to surrender everything and follow Him. The chapter ends with Jesus restoring sight to a blind man whose persistent faith leads to healing. This chapter reminds us that God responds to faith that is persistent, humble, and fully surrendered. I trust in you with all my heart. Don't let me wander away from your commands (Psalm 119:10). "A man after my own heart", God said of David. Is your heart healthy? Do our hearts align with God's? A week ago, we explored one answer, David's desire to be obedient to God's law. On its surface, Psalm 119 is boring. It's repetitive. But I think we miss the point. Its goal is not content but enchantment with the Word of God. It's a carefully crafted poem which oozes with delight in how God has created and ordered the world. There is nothing better for the psalmist than to follow this God. Here is an invitation to catch the joy of obedience. If obedience is one aspect of a person after God's own heart, close on its heels is humility. The delight in this psalm can only come from a place of willing submission to God. In our reflections on obedience, it was mentioned that David waited for God to put him on the throne of Israel. He would not claim it by force as his right. This was an act of humility towards God. In 1 Samuel 25, David is slighted by Nabal and sets out to get vengeance. On the way, he is intercepted by Nabal's wife who begs her husband's pardon. David recognizes that God has sent her to keep him from doing wrong and he let's go of his desire for vengeance. Humility. There is the sordid tale of David sleeping with Uriah's wife followed by a murderous cover up. When Nathan confronts him regarding this sin, David responds, "I have sinned against the Lord" (2 Samuel 12:13). Humility. Later, David counts his fighting men. This displeases God, who forces him to choose which punishment Israel will endure. When David makes his choice he says, "I am in deep distress. Let us fall into the hands of the Lord, for his mercy is great…" (2 Samuel 24:14). Humility. In each case of disobedience, David responded with an admission of guilt and a turning back to the Lord, something Saul refused to do. He made excuses (cf. 1 Sam 15:24-25). Humility before the Lord acknowledges our disobedience and then turns back towards obedience. Disobedience never has to be the last word. With God there is mercy, forgiveness. We do not need to approach God with fear in our disobedience, but rather, we may "enter boldly because of the blood of Jesus" (Hebrews 10:19). Our identity is formed by being God's children, not by our disobedience. We are daughters and sons of the King. If you have wandered far from God, turn back. Humble yourself before him. God's mercy is great. He loves you and wants nothing more than your face to be turned towards him. As you journey on, go with the blessing of God: "May God himself, the God who makes everything holy and whole, make you holy and whole, put you together—spirit, soul, and body—and keep you fit for the coming of our Master, Jesus Christ. The One who called you is completely dependable. If he said it, he'll do it" (1 Thessalonians 5:23).

James 4:1-10 1 1 What causes quarrels and what causes fights among you? Is it not this, that your passions are at war within you? 2 You desire and do not have, so you murder. You covet and cannot obtain, so you fight and quarrel. You do not have, because you do not ask. 3 You ask and do not receive, because you ask wrongly, to spend it on your passions. 4 You adulterous people! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Therefore whoever wishes to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God. 5 Or do you suppose it is to no purpose that the Scripture says, “He yearns jealously over the spirit that he has made to dwell in us”? 6 But he gives more grace. Therefore it says, “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.”   7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. 8 Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded. 9 Be wretched and mourn and weep. Let your laughter be turned to mourning and your joy to gloom. 10 Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will exalt you.

Embark on this year-long voyage through the Bible, and let each day's passage uplift and inspire you. TODAY'S EPISODE: Welcome to another episode of the Daily Radio Bible! On this August 11th journey through scripture, your host and Bible reading coach, Hunter, invites you to spend a few precious moments in the presence of God's Word. Today's readings take us through Jeremiah 7–9 and John 13, where we hear powerful messages of warning, repentance, and the boundless love of Christ. Hunter reflects on what it means to let Jesus wash not just our feet, but our souls—teaching us about humility, grace, and the importance of daily communion with God. Join us as we listen, reflect, pray, and remember the deep truth that we are loved—no doubt about it. TODAY'S DEVOTION: You have to get washed, and he has to wash you. You have to humbly accept Jesus' care over your life as he washes your feet. If you don't, Jesus says, you're going to miss him. You're not going to get Him. You won't understand what he's all about. There's a difference between union and communion. Peter and the twelve were united with Christ—they were one with Christ. But just like you and me, their feet got dirty because they walked in a world that is fallen and broken and dirty. Journeying through this life takes a toll on us, and our souls need to be drawn in over and over again to our life with Him. We need to be realigned, renewed, refreshed. We need to be washed. We need to come into communion with him again. So Jesus insists on cleaning our feet. When he cleans our feet, he's reminding us of who we are in him. You are his daughter. You are his son. You are one with Him. Jesus insists on caring for us throughout our lives, washing our feet, reminding us of the intimate care and grace that's offered to us each and every day. It's a humbling thing for someone to wash our feet, but our souls are in need of the humbling reality of Christ serving us. Our pride, like Peter's, wants to rise up and demand otherwise—“you'll never wash my feet,” says Peter. The flesh, our pride, always refuses. But the presence of Christ humbles us and teaches us in this moment. He teaches us who we are and what we are to become. We are chosen. We are in Him. We have union with God and we are to participate with him as servants of God. There is union, and there is communion. Our union has been forged through the life, death, resurrection of Christ—Christ alone. Our communion is where we participate with him in who we now have become and join in on what he is now doing today. He continues to wash us, even through this Word, through what we're doing here right now. You may not have noticed this, but while we were hearing the Word today, something else was happening, if you will. Christ was serving you, washing your feet. Ephesians 5 says, we are washed by the cleansing of the Word. He's washing our feet as we listen to and respond to His Word each day. Jesus says to you what he said to Peter: those who have had a bath need only to wash their feet—their whole body is clean. The water of God's Word washing our feet is going to be a part of our life together from here on out. Don't let your pride and flesh stand in the way of Christ serving you. And maybe next time, when you come to the Word, envision Jesus, the Creator of all things, washing your feet. Let it be a reminder to you that you are one with him, and that we need him to renew, to restore, to clean us—and that we are loved. And let that love move beyond you into the world to others, so that you can love the way he loved and served you. That's the prayer that I have for my own soul. That's the prayer that I have for my family, for my wife and my daughters and my son. And that's a prayer that I have for you. May it be so. TODAY'S PRAYERS: Lord God Almighty and everlasting father you have brought us in safety to this new day preserve us with your Mighty power that we might not fall into sin or be overcome by adversity. And in all we do, direct us to the fulfilling of your purpose  through Jesus Christ Our Lord amen.   Oh God you have made of one blood all the peoples of the earth and sent your blessed son to preach peace to those who are far and those who are near. Grant that people everywhere may seek after you, and find you. Bring the nations into your fold, pour out your Spirit on all flesh, and hasten the coming of your kingdom through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.   And now Lord,  make me an instrument of your peace.  Where there is hatred let me sow love. Where there is injury, pardon.  Where there is doubt, faith. Where there is despair, hope.  Where there is darkness, light.  And where there is sadness,  Joy.  Oh Lord grant that I might not seek to be consoled as to console. To be understood as to understand, to be loved as to love.  For it is in the giving that we receive, in the pardoning that we are pardoned, it is in the dying that we are born unto eternal life.  Amen And now as our Lord has taught us we are bold to pray... Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven, give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our tresspasses as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not unto temptation, but deliver us from evil, for thine is the Kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen. Loving God, we give you thanks for restoring us in your image. And nourishing us with spiritual food, now send us forth as forgiven people, healed and renewed, that we may proclaim your love to the world, and continue in the risen life of Christ.  Amen.  OUR WEBSITE: www.dailyradiobible.com We are reading through the New Living Translation.   Leave us a voicemail HERE: https://www.speakpipe.com/dailyradiobible Subscribe to us at YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@Dailyradiobible/featured OTHER PODCASTS: Listen with Apple Podcast DAILY BIBLE FOR KIDS DAILY PSALMS DAILY PROVERBS DAILY LECTIONARY DAILY CHRONOLOGICAL

When your brand focuses on a specific body shape, creating clothes that fit is fairly easy. But what if you are designing for specific psychographics instead of demographics? What does fit look like then? Heidi Keil is the founder of Humble Hearts Clergy Apparel. She designs clothes for female pastors and chaplains – which is super niched on both faith values and vocation, not necessarily body type. Manufacturing clothes and a business that fits has been a prayer-filled journey for Heidi, but she serves in this way because she loves it. In episode 115, hear how Heidi arrived at a size chart and a size range that fits the pastors she serves, why Heidi started Humble Hearts as a business but it's turned into more of a hobby within her lifestyle, and how Heidi's faith values and favorite bible verse inspire her humble approach to running her brand. Heidi began designing clergy apparel, at the request of her pastor, when she was a student in an Apparel Design program. It was something Heidi continued to offer, somewhat sporadically, while working in the costume shop at The Guthrie Theater following graduation. When the theater closed due to the pandemic in 2020 she turned her time and attention to creating a line of clergy apparel (mainly due to her own need for something to fill her time). Gradually, with the help of family, friends, past instructors and work contacts she slowly developed an online presence. Humble Hearts Clergy Apparel is in its 5th year.   Where does the name come from? "...live a life worthy of the calling you have received. Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love." Ephesians 4:1-2 Heidi shares: "This small business has been a wonderful way to blend my interest in fashion and apparel design with my faith." And as I read Daniel's book, my hope is reinforced by Daniel's life. Because of Daniel's life, I believe that no matter what happens on election day (or any other day to be honest), the day after God will still be in control of whomever thinks they are in control. Judges 6:25-27 25 That same night the Lord said to him, “Take the second bull from your father's herd, the one seven years old. Tear down your father's altar to Baal and cut down the Asherah pole beside it. 26 Then build a proper kind of altar to the Lord your God on the top of this height. Using the wood of the Asherah pole that you cut down, offer the second bull as a burnt offering.”27 So Gideon took ten of his servants and did as the Lord told him. But because he was afraid of his family and the townspeople, he did it at night rather than in the daytime.Judges 7:1-8 NIV 1 Early in the morning, Jerub-Baal (that is, Gideon) and all his men camped at the spring of Harod. The camp of Midian was north of them in the valley near the hill of Moreh. 2 The Lord said to Gideon, “You have too many men. I cannot deliver Midian into their hands, or Israel would boast against me, ‘My own strength has saved me.' 3 Now announce to the army, ‘Anyone who trembles with fear may turn back and leave Mount Gilead.'” So twenty-two thousand men left, while ten thousand remained.4 But the Lord said to Gideon, “There are still too many men. Take them down to the water, and I will thin them out for you there. If I say, ‘This one shall go with you,' he shall go; but if I say, ‘This one shall not go with you,' he shall not go.”5 So Gideon took the men down to the water. There the Lord told him, “Separate those who lap the water with their tongues as a dog laps from those who kneel down to drink.” 6 Three hundred of them drank from cupped hands, lapping like dogs. All the rest got down on their knees to drink.7 The Lord said to Gideon, “With the three hundred men that lapped I will save you and give the Midianites into your hands. Let all the others go home.” 8 So Gideon sent the rest of the Israelites home but kept the three hundred, who took over the provisions and trumpets of the others. Now the camp of Midian lay below him in the valley.Week 3 (9/1)Sometime this week, read about God's victory in … Judges 7:1-8 – Extra challenge: memorize Judges 7:2

Read Philippians 2: 3-8.1. What does humility mean to you? Why is humility important, especially in the church?2. What does it mean to truly forgive? Why is forgiveness important, especially in the church?3. Do you ever find it hard to ask for forgiveness and/or forgive others? If so, why do you think that is?4. Pastor Mick said that forgiveness is transformative. What do you think he meant by that? Have you ever experienced forgiveness (whether giving or receiving) to be transformative in your life and relationships?5. There's a popular saying, or adage, that says, “Hurt people, hurt people.” What does this mean? Have you experienced this personally? How might this help to explain people's words and actions in the midst of our denominational turmoil?6. Who are you still holding in unforgiveness? How does that affect your own life? What do you need to do?7. Pastor Matt often tells people, “I see you, I hear you, I love you; and there's nothing you can do about it.” How does this get to the heart of the gospel? How might the church (and world) be different if we all practiced this more intentionally?8. Why do you think Pastor Mick says that “Forgiveness” undergirds this series focusing on being “Humble, Hopeful, Healed and Whole”? What do you hope you (and the church) will learn from this series? What changes are needed, both individually and collectively, as a church?Prayer for the Week: Lord Jesus, forgive us for all the times we have been anything but humble, repentant and forgiving. Forgive us for all the times when our words and actions toward our brothers and sisters in Christ do not reveal your love to the world around us. Forgive us for all the times we have been more like stumbling blocks than building blocks for the faith of those around us. Help us do better. Through the power of your Holy Spirit, transform our hearts and our minds so we can be your true disciples, good and faithful servants who practice humility, forgiveness, reconciliation and unity. Transform us into the humble and forgiving community that you call us to be, for the building of your kingdom and the glorification of you holy name. We pray all of this, Lord Jesus, in your precious, holy and strong, strong name. Amen.

Hello and welcome to "The Power Of God's Whisper Podcast." Today, we journey through the life of David, the shepherd-turned-king, and explore his ability to hear and express God's whispers despite his humble beginnings. Our guiding verse for today comes from 2 Samuel 23:2: "The Spirit of the LORD speaks through me." These words echo a profound truth that God's voice can find expression through the most humble hearts. Let's delve deeper into three key points that this narrative reveals:Point 1: God Chooses the Humble: The story of David demonstrates that God doesn't exclusively select the religious elite or the academically proficient to convey His message. He speaks through individuals from all walks of life, from shepherds and farmers to kings and servants, and even through nature. All that is required is a heart yielded to Him.Point 2: The Prerequisite of a Heart for God: David, though an ordinary shepherd boy, lived an extraordinary life because of his heart for God. If we desire for the Spirit of God to speak through us, our first and foremost requirement is a passionate love for God, a fervent pursuit of Him above all else. It is in this intimate relationship with God that we find ourselves qualified to express His heart.Point 3: The Power of God's Whisper: Recognizing God's whispers and allowing them to flow through us is not a divine privilege confined to a select few. The Spirit of the Lord is more than willing to speak through those in intimate fellowship with Him. Our qualification lies not in our earthly stature but in knowing and expressing His heart. In conclusion, David's life serves as a powerful reminder that God's whispers can find resonance in any heart yielded to Him. It invites us to reflect on our own relationship with God and to continually cultivate a heart that is eager and ready to both hear and express His whispers. As you journey in faith, take inspiration from David's life. Allow your love for God to be the guiding force in your life, and let His Spirit find expression through you. Remember, God's whisper holds the power to transform lives, and He invites you to be a conduit of this divine power.Let's close with a prayer: "Spirit of God, make our hearts zealous for You. Just as You spoke through David, let Your words flow through us. Cultivate within us hearts that are drawn closer to You each day. Let us be vessels through which Your divine whispers find expression. Amen."Thank you for joining us on today's episode of "The Power Of God's Whisper Podcast." We encourage you to pursue an intimate relationship with God and let His Spirit speak through you. Until next time, remember, you, too, can be a vessel for God's whisper.Thank you for reading The Power Of God's Whisper. This post is public so feel free to share it. Jesus had a beef with the many of Jewish religious leaders of His time. In some cases these leaders were doing things or teaching things that were unnecessarily burdensome; in other cases they lacked integrity; in other cases they were violently opposed to everything God was doing in Jesus. In talking to his disciples about these leaders, he often used a unique word: “Woe!” “Woe to you when all speak well of you …!” (Luke 6:26) “Woe to you Pharisees! For you tithe mint and rue and herbs of all kinds; and neglect justice and the love of God…” (Luke 11:42) “Woe to you who are full now, for you will be hungry….” (Luke 6:25). These “Woes” are teaching words for us today, pointing us to the way that Jesus calls us to love God and love others. During the season of Lent, we will be taking a step back and trying to hear whatever Jesus might have for us in these “Woes” by imagining them as “Whoas!” We are going to take the time to listen to Jesus, who says in each of these statements, “Whoa! Stop where you are! Remember the things and the people that I value, and come back! Embrace those things that I value!” Listen as Pastor Clint explores Jesus' woe to the major religious centers of His day, and what this teaches us about the Christianity: that it is not a story of religious insiders and outsiders, but a story of stubborn hearts and humble hearts. Where there is despair, hope. Where there is darkness, light. Where there is sadness, joy. O Divine master grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console. To be understood, as to understand. To be loved, as to love. For it is in giving that we receive And it's in pardoning that we are pardoned And it's in dying that we are born...To eternal life." -The prayer of St. Francis Join or follow us below: Facebook: www.facebook.com/thespringmid... Instagram: www.instagram.com/midtown.pres/ Website: www.midtownpres.org/ Community Groups: www.midtownpres.org/community-groups Sunday Services: www.midtownpres.org/
