Some of you have your passion worked out and are busy each day working at it, you're established, you're busy promoting, you're coaching, hopefully, you're making money, you're using social media, some of you are affiliating, and you're looking for ways to expand, you name it, some of you are doing amazing things. I've interviewed a lot of you and I congratulate you all. Many of our members are still working on their idea… creating infrastructure, building social connections, trying to build a following, growing Facebook groups, and don't have a way yet to get noticed. If that sounds like you, this challenge is for you? Let's talk about courage and why it's so important to develop your courage. Courage helps you to begin something because in the beginning there is a lot of uncertainty The scariest moment about getting started is the moment right before you start something, you are on the edge of your comfort zone and it takes courage to jump Courage is the secret sauce that gets you to take action despite your fear Courage help you put aside your fear of failure (which exists in your mind only) Courage helps you overcome a fear of rejection (which doesn't exist either) Courage allows you to attempt things that you have not done before The fact is... everyone wants to feel courageous! And in this new age of social media and online business, it takes courage to put your ass on the line. In my life, some things helped me to build courage, like Living true to my standards Pursuing a passion with enthusiasm Making progress and showing results Being committed to creating amazing life experiences Another thing that I learned first by understanding intellectually then by doing… my actions always help others to understand who I am and my actions inspired people when I: Took on a personal challenge Pushed through a struggle Saw me putting in the effort Watched and tracked me achieve a goal that I set for myself These kinds of actions inspire people and will support you when you decide to take on a challenge. When you make the deliberate decision to make yourself courageous it requires doing the necessary actions and the right things consistently to create that feeling of courage. That feeling of courage never magically happens without taking some kind of action. Courage is created as a result of doing the right actions. In other words, there is no free lunch when it comes to acquiring courage and the only way to maintain the feeling is to continue to do things like the things that got you there in the first place. That feeling of courage is sometimes referred to as Personal Power. Everyone wants to experience their Power. Personal Power is not power over something or someone, rather, it's a consciously created personal experience of feeling accomplished, proud, certain, decisive, emotionally strong, and fully capable. You earn the feeling of power and it's only personal to you. Personal power comes as a result of you following through on a personal commitment, also known as “Honoring your word to yourself.” That's why I have decided to create this challenge. I want to allow you to practice honoring your word. Honoring your word to yourself so you give yourself the experiential knowledge of being true to yourself. Now, the Self Achievement Network in itself is not a solution, rather, the purpose is simply designed to be an opportunity for you to either discover, share, or evolve your passion in life. I've said that a million times. What is required is for you to show-up, step-up, and step out from the crowd. When you do that, you will be noticed, evaluated, and celebrated as you make progress. And as you all know, stepping out is like stepping out of your comfort zone and the mind sees that as a threat, and what normally happens is that when we feel that fear, we tend to retreat, turn around, do an about-face and justify it by saying “I'm not ready” or “I just need to fix that one thing” etc, etc, etc To get noticed takes courage and act --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/selfachievementnetwork/support

Today, I am sharing a pretty big milestone that I hit for January. I reached 35K in sales for one month and not only that, I landed 5 clients in one month. This has been my biggest month in business and because I’m all about transparency, I’m going to share 3 reasons why. Now, I want you to know that sharing these reasons for me does not come easy for me. I never want people to think that I’m bragging or that I have some magic pill that they don't. However, I think it’s really to talk about how I made this a reality because if I can do it, you can do it too! I’m not some magical unicorn that happened upon success. It is absolutely something that you can achieve and replicate. Success is repeatable and so I’m going to dive deep into 3 reasons why January was such a big month for me because these are easy things that you can do yourself. I Showed Up There is no right way to market yourself. You get to decide how you show up and get visible. I showed up in a way that felt right for me. So, Facebook is my biggest platform and I show up mainly through Facebook live videos. It’s not just the act of showing up, it’s what you do when you show up. I didn’t sell to people or cold messaged anyone. I simply showed up from a place of service. I truly wanted to help people figure out the next step for them. “It’s not just the act of showing up, It’s what you do WHEN you show up.” - Michelle Vroom I Took the Pressure off Myself Ladies, how much pressure are you putting on yourself when it comes to marketing? We’ve got to release that pressure and this is coming from someone who is a type A ;) Pressure puts a barrier between you and your clients. It has taken me awhile to make this shift but January was the first month that I truly felt the release. I removed the pressure and didn’t care about the outcome. Once that happened, conversations with potential clients became fun! I approached every chat as an opportunity to help women do what’s best for their business. I Took Care of My Existing Clients Two of the clients that I secured this month were clients who I was already working with. A lot of people don’t realize that client retention is a big part of marketing. We think that marketing is focused on reaching new people. Yes, that may be true, but marketing is also about serving your current clients well because if you can do that, they will want to level up with you! “Focus on serving your current clients well.” - Michelle Vroom Connect with Market Like a Boss! Mike Posner has written hits for himself like "I Took a Pill in Ibiza," and for stars from Justin Bieber ("Boyfriend") to Maroon 5 ("Sugar"), so he has insights for days on what makes a pop song work. We dig into Mike's excellent new track "Song About You," which leads to an exploration of songs that reuse the same melody for verse and chorus—from Prince to The Boss to Post Malone. Last, we consider "beard phase": a moment of artistic reinvention that every artist has in their career, whether you're Mike Posner, Ludwig van Beethoven, or Taylor Swift. Featuring: Mike Posner - Song About You Jean Ritchie - Barbary Allen Original Sacred Harp Singers - New Britain (Amazing Grace) Prince - I Wanna Be Your Lover Prince - Let's Go Crazy Bruce Springsteen - Born in the U.S.A. EPISODE DETAILS: PART ONE Scott and Paul do a little housekeeping, including sharing listener-submitted additions to their "terrible artist mashup" game from last episode, announcing the winner of the signed Lamont Dozier CD contest, and sharing more information about our friends at Pearl Snap Studios. PART TWO - 6:28 mark Mike stops by Songcraft World Headquarters to talk about the outside-the-box method he used to build an early following among college students; why he devoted himself to learning to play piano and guitar AFTER he'd scored a major hit; the reason he hates having a coffee table in the recording studio; why he originally told Adam Levine that Maroon 5 couldn't have "Sugar;" the surprising ways that Merle Haggard and Hank Williams, Jr. inspired "I Took a Pill in Ibiza;" and the reason Mike's label isn't allowed to hear his albums until they're finished. Plus, Mike performs two songs live and acoustic that will challenge what you think you know about him! ABOUT MIKE POSNER Singer-songwriter, record producer, and poet Mike Posner emerged from the Detroit music scene to build a grassroots following by releasing mixtapes during his college years. After signing with Clive Davis’ J Records he broke through to national prominence with the double Platinum-selling Top 10 single “Cooler Than Me.” Subsequent hits as a solo artist include the Platinum-selling singles “Please Don’t Go” and “Bow Chicka Wow Wow,” which featured Lil Wayne. Posner is perhaps best known for the worldwide hit “I Took a Pill in Ibiza,” which has been streamed more than two billions times (with a b!), and was the second most-streamed song of 2016. “I Took a Pill in Ibiza” earned Mike a Grammy nomination for Song of the Year and turbocharged his reputation as an in-demand songwriter and collaborator. In addition to his own artist output, Posner is a behind-the-scenes songwriter of “Beneath Your Beautiful,” a #1 UK hit by Labrinth, “Boyfriend,” a multi-Platinum single for Justin Bieber, and “Sugar,” another multi-Platinum chart-topping hit for Maroon 5. Other artists who’ve released songs by Posner include Big Sean, Talib Kweli, Pharrell Williams, 2 Chainz, Wiz Khalifa, Nelly, T.I., Snoop Dogg, Avicii, Iggy Azalea, Nick Jonas, Cher Lloyd, and more. Beyond his solo work and his songwriting and production collaborations with other artists, Posner is also one half of the alternative hip hop duo Mansionz. He has released a book of poetry, Teardrops and Balloons, as well as a poetic spoken word album called I was born in detroit on a very, very, very, very, very, very, very cold day. Mike’s most recent single is “Song About You,” which is a prelude to his forthcoming studio album, which will be released in January on Island Records.
Have you ever thought about what people will say when the day arrives that you leave this earth? My mother passed away exactly one month ago now and it made me consider again this quote by Lin Yutang: "Belief in our mortality, the sense that we are eventually going to crack up and be extinguished like the flame of a candle, I say, is a gloriously fine thing. It makes us sober; it makes us a little sad; and many of us it makes poetic. But above all, it makes it possible for us to make up our mind and arrange to live sensibly, truthfully, and always with a sense of our own limitations." I've thought a lot about what phrases or quotes define me. I can identify with the statements above and I want my life to count. I want my life to be summed up by the lines of the following songs: "I Hope You Dance": I hope you never lose your sense of wonder You get your fill to eat but always keep that hunger May you never take one single breath for granted God forbid love ever leave you empty handed I hope you still feel small when you stand beside the ocean Whenever one door closes I hope one more opens Promise me that you'll give faith a fighting chance And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance I hope you dance, I hope you dance I hope you never fear those mountains in the distance Never settle for the path of least resistance Livin' might mean takin' chances, but they're worth takin' Lovin' might be a mistake, but it's worth makin' Don't let some Hellbent heart leave you bitter When you come close to sellin' out, reconsider Give the heavens above more than just a passing glance And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance I hope you dance, I hope you dance and "Live Like You Were Dying": "And I became a friend a friend would like to have And all of a sudden going fishin' Wasn't such an imposition And I went three times that year I lost my dad I finally read the Good Book, and I Took a good, long, hard look At what I'd do if I could do it all again And then I went skydiving I went Rocky Mountain climbing I went 2.7 seconds on a bull named Fumanchu And I loved deeper And I spoke sweeter And I gave forgiveness I'd been denying" And he said "Someday I hope you get the chance To live like you were dying Like tomorrow was a gift And you've got eternity To think about What you'd do with it and by this quote from St Therese of Lisieux - "Christ has no body now on earth but yours, no hands but yours, no feet but yours. Yours are the eyes through which He looks compassion on the world. Yours are the feet with which He is to go about doing good. Yours are the hands with which He is to bless men now." My mother lived that kind of life and was a blessing to everyone who knew her. I hope that when the time comes for me to leave this earth, people will say I also danced instead of letting life pass me by. I lived as though every day was my last. And I did magnify Christ to those around me. How about you? What kind of legacy do you want to leave? You were born for a reason. Are you making your life count? Carol
Our final guest of season two is an artist, songwriter, and producer hailing from the hip-hop scene of Detroit, Michigan. He was still a student at Duke University when he came up with the idea for his first single "Cooler Than Me" which went on be a multi-platinum hit and earn more than 3 million in sales in the US. Since then, he has become one of the industry’s most in-demand songwriters, penning hits for the likes of Maroon 5 ("Sugar"), Justin Bieber ("Boyfriend"), Big Sean ("Don't Tell Me You Love Me"), and Labrinth ("Beneath Your Beautiful"). His self-penned triple platinum smash “I Took a Pill in Ibiza” from his sophomore album ‘At Night, Alone’ hit #1 in the US and earned him a Grammy nomination for Song of the Year. In addition to a successful solo career, he is a member of the alternative hip-hop duo Mansionz with blackbear. We’re honored to have our season finale feature this inspirational artist and songwriter. And the writer is…Mike Posner! See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Mike Posner is a Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter whose megahit "I Took a Pill in Ibiza" has been streamed more than a billion times; last week, he released a book of poetry titled Teardrops and Balloons. Taraka Larson fronts the beloved psych-pop group Prince Rama, and is a pop music theorist who has lectured on the subject at New York University and Melbourne College in Australia. We thought it would make for a great conversation to pair this pop scholar with one of pop’s biggest current writers. And it was! In a talk that was part theory discussion, part psychoanalysis, the two discuss where truth is to be found in the inherent artifice of art, the temptation to glorify one’s suffering in one's work, how you know when you’ve created good art (and when you haven’t), Prince Rama appearing in James Franco’s new Lifetime film, and much more. Originally from South Alabama, Aaron's musical journey has him right where he belongs in Nashville TN. Aaron’s voice is often described as, “a young Garth Brooks meets early Kenny Chesney and Tim McGraw.” Uhhh, not bad! This episode is full powerful wisdom combined with a bunch of laughs and topped off with my new favorite song "I Took a Pill In Ibeza""In my 15 years living in Nashville, I have been fortunate to watch a lot of friends like Kip Moore, Brett Eldredge, Florida Georgia Line, A Thousand Horses, Michael Ray and more, start their journeys with a back pack and a dream and end up being a huge success in country music.Yet the most frustrating part about being a friend and a fan to not just artist, but writers like Corey Crowder, Justin Weaver, Rick Huckaby, Westin Davis and many more, has been hearing amazing songs that will never leave the Nashville city limits."Nashville Hits Collecting Dust" is a casual, entertaining hangout with friends telling stories, giving valuable advice, and playing great songs that otherwise would still be sitting in a database. My guest are pure entrepreneurs that are living out their dream of being artist and full time songwriters."Find more at donaldjenkinsnow.com and @donaldsjenkins

Music and technology really do go together like chocolate and peanut butter, don't they? 2015 seemed like the year that streaming services really started to gain traction. In fact, Aaron and I found most of our favorite songs of 2015 because of streaming services - through Spotify's Discover Weekly playlist. Having access to basically all professionally recorded music is fantastic, but being able to smartly recommend that music to people is game altering. I'm obviously very excited about the future of streaming music, Taylor Swift and Adelle be damned.
