See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Fredrik is again joined by Malin Sundberg and Kai Dombrowski for a review of attending this year’s WWDC, working with “AI”, and more. The experience of attending - a lot about the great community. News from the conference - a Snow leopard year, in a good way. Lots of nice fixes and additions - Swiftui, fun widgets, and of course lots of question marks around whatever Apple intelligence will grow up to be. And of course a little side of the ongoing story of Apple versus the EU. Apple intelligence also leads naturally into a discussion on how everyone works with language models, copilots, and so on. There is also some discussion of summer development plans, localization, and the snobbiest coffee country in the world. Thank you Cloudnet for sponsoring our VPS! Comments, questions or tips? Remember how Michael Wandelmeier told us Metalab hired a storytelling coach? Well that coach is Ian Wharton. He's an Apple Design Award winner, CEO of Aide Health, and he teaches storytelling techniques to teams like Dyson, BBC, Huge, etc.So this episode breaks down the key storytelling concepts that he shares in his course Sell the Idea. We talk about the importance of the inciting incident, how to empower others to share your ideas, and a lot more…But he also presents some compelling ideas about why designers are the most suited people to start companies that solve societal level challenges. All you need is a bias toward action. So if you've been considering starting your own thing, there's a lot we can learn from Ian's journey as a design founder.Ian's course Sell the Idea (use the code RIDD at checkout for 30% off)Ian's personal websiteIan's business Aide HealthMackinnon and Saunders (the stop motion company Ian worked with)

It's an all new That Real Blind Tech Show. It's a threesome as someone on the show does not know how the calendar and reminders work on the iPhone. We start off insulting a member of our show, because we like to make fun of each other. It makes us feel more secure about our own lives. We kick our stories off discussing that Atari recently purchased Intelivision, and yes this article is from 2024. Which leads us to a discussion about the potential rise of the Audio Video Game. Thanks to Autio audio can now entertain you on those long road trips. We were thrilled to learn friends of the podcast OKO has been nominated as a finalist for the 2024 Apple Design Awards. Be My A.I. in partnership with Microsoft launched their all new PC Desktop which can currently be found in the Windows Store. It's then back to the Mac as we discuss the A.I. Mac plug in TypeAhead.AI. Could the double level airplane seat be coming to an airline near you? And of course right before we start recording Apple and Open A.I. reportedly have come to an agreement to have ChatGPT on iOS 18. We then got some leaked reports about Project Grey Matter out of Apple for iOS 18. In iOS 18, A.I. will give you more control to control specific features of apps using Siri, but don't expect this feature to Abe available this year, why would you? The conversation then turns to should apple be announcing features that will not arrive for close to a year? Of course Washington wants new A.I. laws to protect Hollywood and famous rich people. And on a related note, who knew that celebrity voice erotica is all the rage these days! We then dive in to what voice would be our ideal VoiceOver voice. We then finally get to our yearly look back of wWDC 23. We discuss if we are any closer to being able to talk with our animals? We then talk about the latest update on the Mac and Apple breaking QuickNav yet again. Seriously we will eventually get in to our Look Back of WWDC 23. We discuss Passkeys, New voices, point and speak, personal voice, new auto correct and spelling features, and of course improved diction. Seriously how much worse has dictation gotten on the iPhone in the last year. We got a new Name Drop feature. We got a Journal app. We got Air Tag Sharing. We got new interactive widgets to the iPad. PDFs are now in Notes and supposedly more editable. Web Apps and Widgets came to the Mac. We got safari profiles, or did we? Snoopy and Woodstock came to the Apple Watch. We discuss how SwingVision harnesses the potential of the Neural Engine to bring real time pro-quality shot tracking, video analysis and line calling on any court with the help of just the iPhone and the Apple Watch, thus reducing barriers of entry to sports intelligence which were limited to a select few professionals. We explore building the Apple Design Award-winning apps Halide and Spectre with Sebastiaan de With, Co-Founder and designer at Lux. We cover bridging the gap between visual design and product design, growing from one camera app to a photography company, and advice for those interested in creating and selling an app. “We will see the landscape littered with the burnt out husks of people that love their passions, but burn so bright that they burn out. And it is so, so valuable to give yourself time, to take a break, to reflect and to realize, ‘these are my passions—how can I healthily pursue them?'” – Sebastiaan de With EPISODE GUIDE (LINKS, QUOTES, NOTES, AND BOOKS MENTIONED) https://www.danielscrivner.com/notes/sebastiaan-de-with-outlier-academy-show-notes FULL TEXT TRANSCRIPT https://www.danielscrivner.com/notes/sebastiaan-de-with-outlier-academy-transcript CHAPTERS This episode is our definitive guide to building Apple Design Award-winning apps. In it we cover: (00:00:00) – Introduction (00:02:03) – Sebastiaan's early introduction to designing icons with HP, Apple, and doubleTwist (00:09:23) – Apple as a workplace of incredible learning, punishingly hard work, and in depth design processes (00:17:35) – Bridging the gap between visual design and product design (00:19:53) – The making and success of Sebastiaan's first camera app, Halide (00:29:28) – How passion relates to success (00:31:36) – Growing from one camera app to a photography company (00:33:34) – Physicality and attention to detail in digital design (00:45:04) – Advice for those interested in creating and selling an app (00:48:08) – Whether we should follow our passions in business, and how to nurture them (00:54:48) – Sebastiaan's favorite failures and the definition of success ABOUT SEBASTIAAN DE WITH AND LUX Aside from being an incredible designer, Sebastiaan has built one of the world's most successful, independent iOS app businesses with Lux. And it all started in 2017 when Ben Sandofsky and Sebastiaan launched their first app Halide, which went on to top the charts in the App Store and win Apple's App of the Year Award. Halide makes it incredibly easy to capture and edit beautiful, raw photos, right on your iPhone and now your iPad. They followed that up with the release of Spectre, which makes it easy to take long, exposure photos, which also topped the App Store and won them a second App of the Year Award. All of Lux's apps are centered around photography, and they're building a next-generation camera company.
