EXTERNAL EPISODE 62 - A Thousand Horses - We fill the Room with Smoke and a Room Full of Strangers A Thousand Horses was founded in 2010 in Nashville by longtime friends, vocalist Michael Hobby and lead guitarist Bill Satcher (both natives of Newberry, South Carolina), along with rhythm guitarist Zach Brown and bassist Graham DeLoach. This ballad is their debut release. The high-powered new single from A Thousand Horses, “Highway Sound” marks the start of the most dynamic era yet in the Nashville-based band's career. Produced by GRAMMY Award-winner Jon Randall, the wildly life-affirming anthem delves deeper into the freewheeling originality they've embraced since their Dave Cobb-produced debut SOUTHERNALITY—featuring the PLATINUM-certified smash “Smoke”—and artfully merges elements of Southern Rock, Classic Country, and hard-driving Americana. Along with adorning the track with plenty of ear-catching details (achieved in part through such left-of-center instrumentation as electric sitar and talkbox), A Thousand Horses fully capture what frontman Michael Hobby refers to as “the freedom of cutting ties with the negativity of the past, and putting your energy into celebrating a new beginning.” Written after a period of intense change in their personal lives, “Highway Sound” first took shape over the course of a weekend trip to a Texas farmhouse in summer 2021, during which Hobby, guitarist Bill Satcher, bassist Graham DeLoach, and former guitarist Zach Brown came up with the song during an impromptu session on the porch. A major leap forward for A Thousand Horses, “Highway Sound” spotlights the powerful musicianship and soulful urgency first revealed on SOUTHERNALITY—a 2015 LP that reached #3 on Billboard's Top Country Albums chart, with “Smoke” earning recognition as the first debut single for a group to reach #1 on the Country Airplay charts that decade. Soon after launching their own label, Highway Sound Records, A Thousand Horses returned with their 2022 sophomore album BROKEN HEARTLAND, featuring standouts like “When I Hear Your Name,” “Another Mile,” and “Never Liked the Rain.” Known for their incendiary live show, A Thousand Horses have also toured the country with iconic acts like Lynyrd Skynyrd, Darius Rucker, Jason Aldean, Kid Rock and more. Hayley and I met when we rocking out (and falling in love w lead singers) of the underground rock scene in Nashville about 15 years ago. Her husband is Ricky Young, who now is in the critically acclaimed band, Wild Feathers. There was a group of rockers who had a cult following in Nashville and would play every weekend. Ricky was a part of that scene, so was my hubs Michael and his band, A Thousand Horses. So Hayley and I have truly lived the Penny Lane life for sure. I loved having this conversation bc all these years later, Hayley and I are still in love with those rocker lead singers that we met almost 20 years ago. But now we both are married, both have little girls, and have lived soooooo much life. Hayley unexpectedly lost her father at age 25 and we really dive into the healing power of therapy and how that changed her life and allowed her to get to the other side of grief. We talk a lot about therapy and why it is so important to find someone to talk to instead of stuffing all the pain and trauma you can't process on your own. Once you can actually process it with professional help, then you can truly live freely and joyfully. Learn more about your ad-choices at https://www.iheartpodcastnetwork.com
Dillon Carmichael unleashed his brilliant debut, ‘Hell On An Angel.' Produced by Dave Cobb—the studio guru behind country radio powerhouses like Chris Stapleton and Zac Brown Band. The New York Times compared Carmichael to Randy Travis and said his rich baritone voice “moves with the heft and certainty of a tractor-trailer,” while NPR praised his “deep holler,” and Parade raved that “Carmichael defines pure country.” He landed on Artist To Watch lists from Billboard, Rolling Stone, Taste of Country, Pandora, and more, reached #2 at Country radio's Most Added chart with his debut radio single, “Dancing Away With My Heart,” electrified festival crowds from CMA Fest to Dierks Bentley's Seven Peaks, and earned tour dates with Aaron Lewis, Dwight Yoakam, Trace Adkins, The Cadillac Three, and A Thousand Horses among others.

With April being Stress Awareness Month, country's fresh new face Erin Cosgrove is talking about her own experience with anxiety and mental health, how she copes, how this helped her write her latest release Time To Live and why it is so important to bring awareness to the subject. Stress Awareness Month is a time to bring awareness to what causes our stress and how we can keep ourselves healthy mentally. “I was in a serious state of depression for 6 months, basically it started as soon as the pandemic started. The stress of everything happening in the world really made my mental state decline,” says Erin. “What helped me most was writing music. Out of all the chaos came my single Time To Live, which was my way of releasing my emotions into a song and telling myself and others that everything will be okay. I wanted to give people as well as myself a sense of hope and inspire people to continue to live their lives rather than hide in fear.” Throughout the month of April, Erin hopes to encourage those who also may be struggling. She shares that it is incredibly important to recognize the things in your life that are causing you stress, but on the other hand, it is just as important to find those healthy ways to deal with it. “Set aside time every day to put yourself first. I'm an advocate for listening to your own body, taking slow deep breaks, setting routines and short-term goals to start off the day with an accomplishment.” Stress continues to build for her in another aspect of her life as she gets ready to move over two thousand miles away and relocating from her hometown in CA to Nashville this summer. “I'm so excited to be making this move. Yes, it's very stressful when it comes to packing everything up, including traveling with two cats and a dog. While I do love living in CA, it's time for me to make that move to Nashville to continue doing what I love.” As Erin gears up to release a lyric video for this song, scheduled to come out later this month, she shares one more perception on the meaning of this song. “Anxiety and depression can happen to anyone regardless of their situation and everyone handles pain differently. In all, be kind to others, there's always hope. It's Time To Live.” Visit Erin Cosgrove at her website and follow along with her on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook. Her song Time To Live is available on all digital platforms including Spotify, Apple Music, and more. For more info on stress and ways to cope, visit www.stress.org. We had the pleasure of interviewing Andrew Adkins over Zoom video! Across the Cumberland River from Music City, the burgeoning neighborhood of East Nashville has become a haven for artists, songwriters, and other creatives. One such songwriter is Andrew Adkins, who has been a part of the Nashville community for over a decade. As the city expands and modernizes while preserving its heritage, so too does Andrew’s music. Early in his career, Adkins co-founded two dynamic groups which served as introductions to the music business. He toured with his blues-infused power trio, Mellow Down Easy (Dualtone Records), for eight years. His gritty-rock band, Lions for Real, made waves amongst the music industry before catching the attention of Werewolf Heart Records, the indie-label fronted by actor Ryan Gosling. The band imploded almost as quickly as it surfaced, leaving Adkins uncertain of his musical future. After years of collaborating in bands, Andrew decided to step away and develop his own distinct sound -- a unique blend of roots-influenced, neo-psychedelic rock. Since 2013, he has released several critically acclaimed solo albums. His songs have been featured in television and film (CBS, Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime, History, MTV, Oxygen, and Lionsgate Films). Andrew has shared the stage with artists including Sturgill Simpson, Cage the Elephant, Little Big Town, A Thousand Horses, Dum Dum Girls, David "Honeyboy" Edwards, Billy Joe Shaver, and Wayne "The Train" Hancock among others. Check out Andrew Adkins' new album, "The Echoist" (Elephant Seed Records). The record is a neo-psychedelic, soul-drenched collection of sounds, shades, and moods, showcasing Andrew's ability to blur the lines between multiple genres and styles. We want to hear from you! Whether you're turning the dial up while cruising down the road or sitting back by the lake with your significant other, his music provides an enjoyable and energetic soundtrack to living. It was after high school that his family told him that his distant cousin was the original cowboy, Roy Rogers. Inspired, he picked up the guitar up. I had no idea what was ahead of me with the whole music world.” Since then Grayson has shown a passion and love for country music, and his unique voice and songwriting have sparked a wildfire fan base of over 75,000 across the country. Making a Scene Presents Turn it up with Gerry Casey with an interview with Joseph Morganfield"Joseph Mojo Morganfield, didn’t start out life as a blues player. Even though you would think that’s the natural path he would take but no. Joseph was very much interested in sports. In fact until recently Joseph’s life was far removed from the world of music. But eventually the pull from the world of music became so strong that it was inevitable Joseph would take to the stage just like his Father and Brothers had done before hm. In fact his latest single Good To Be King topped the blues charts in the states and other regions. It looked like a promising career was beckoning. Cale Dodds has been writing songs since the age of 12. At the age of 22, after attending Columbus State University, Dodds made the move from Columbus, GA to Nashville, TN to pursue his career in music. ****Listen to this episode and subscribe! www.richredmond.com/listen The Rich Redmond Show is sponsored by The School of Rock Nashville and Franklin! https://locations.schoolofrock.com/nashville https://locations.schoolofrock.com/franklin In 2014, Cale released his first EP titled “Wild and Wreckless”—a five-song project recorded at Ocean Way Studio with Kyle Jacobs and Matt McClure. In 2015, Dodds received a cut from A Thousand Horses for his song “Drunk Dial,” which reached number 23 on Billboards’s Country Airplay Chart; and in 2016, Warner/Chappell Music signed Dodds to a worldwide publishing agreement. In March 2016, Dodds independently released his second project, "People Watching - EP", produced by Corey Crowder and Zach Abend. Since the release, his songs "People Watching" and "Lying" have been streamed over 5 million times, and “Acting Our Age,” was selected for the EA Sports Madden ‘17 soundtrack which also featured artists such as Blake Shelton and Brantley Gilbert. In January 2017, Cale Dodds joined Warner Music Nashville. Later that year, in September, Dodds released his first major label "double"—a two-sided single—featuring "All Over" and "Lying." The second double followed in November with "Out Of My System" and "People Watching," and the third in January 2018 with Cale's radio single "Take You Back" and "Like We Do." Most recently, in March 2019, Dodds released his current single "I Like Where This Is Going" a song written with hit writers Nicolle Galyon and Busbee about "anticipation" and seeing "the uncertainty of what’s going to happen, while having faith that it’s going to unfold in the right way." Crowe & The New South. Christina grew up in Florida, but is now a resident of both Charlotte, North Carolina and Nashville, Tennessee. She began dreaming of a career in music at a very early age. Her musical influences span several different genres and you can hear those influences (R&B, Pop and Soul) accumulated in her country sound. Christina is part of the family at Go Long Entertainment, LLC, an Artist Development Company based in Nashville, TN and led by VP's of Artist Development, Sherrie Austin and Will Rambeax. The song writing collaboration with Sherrie and Will has already produced some incredible new songs and Christina is itching to get into the studio to lay them down very soon. In the mean time, those living in the Charlotte and Nashville areas should take every opportunity to get out and see this rising star live. In my 15 years living in Nashville, I have been fortunate to watch a lot of friends like Kip Moore, Brett Eldredge, Florida Georgia Line, A Thousand Horses, Michael Ray and more, start their journeys with a back pack and a dream and end up being a huge success in country music.Yet the most frustrating part about being a friend and a fan to not just artist, but writers like Corey Crowder, Justin Weaver, Rick Huckaby, Westin Davis and many more, has been hearing amazing songs that will never leave the Nashville city limits."Nashville Hits Collecting Dust" is a casual, entertaining hangout with friends telling stories, giving valuable advice, and playing great songs that otherwise would still be sitting in a database. My guest are pure entrepreneurs that are living out their dream of being artist and full time songwriters." Nick, Chewy, Rick and myself, Kadillac Kim, are here to bring you this week's podcast! Regretfully (for him), the Reverend Rory Dowd is not around this week, but we get plenty of shots in at his expense! This week, as always, we have something really special for our listeners. We have not one, but TWO talented guests in the studio for your listening pleasure. And let me tell you, we talked about pleasure (*winknod*). But really, we have at least one and a half freaks in the room tonight. We're talking about rope bondage, secret middle names, and how I got the name Kadillac Kim. Spoilers, it was in the parking lot of the Bunny Ranch when I was cornered by strippers in the bathroom of the double wide trailer that served as the strip club in the parking lot. So that's a thing... ANYWAY! We get off on the right foot with Reno country/Americana darling, Gina Rose. Gina will leave you with goosebumps after her fist song. Don't go anywhere or you'll regret not hearing everything she has to say and sing!
A thousand horses. Three thousand sheep. And people, thousands of them too, clustered like locusts around the Old Port in Marseille. What on earth were they all doing there? Anna Magnusson was finding out. European leaders have announced they'll try to tackle unemployment; Emma Jane Kirby's in southern Spain where the under-25s are finding it hardest to get jobs. Qatar has a new ruler, or emir; Frank Gardner's just back from this ultra-rich Gulf state wondering: is this the world's most ironic country? Rupert Wingfield Hayes has been to the Indonesian island of Sumatra to look into South East Asia's worst smog crisis in years. And among the correspondents in Senegal, reporting on the excitement, the rumours and the disruption which accompany a visiting American president, was Caspar Leighton. From Our Own Correspondent is produced by Tony Grant.
