The man the whole country has been looking for may finally be in custody. Six days after the United Healthcare CEO was gunned down by an assassin in New York, police have arrested a 26-year-old man in Pennsylvania- all thanks to a McDonald's employee who called 9-1-1. Cops say the suspect was carrying a two-page manifesto railing against the healthcare industry. And a verdict is in, in the trial of the marine veteran who put a man in a chokehold on a New York subway leading to his death. He claimed he was trying to protect himself and other commuters and today the jury agreed, finding him not guilty. There were strong emotions on both sides leading to chaos outside the courthouse. Plus, world leaders attended the reopening of the iconic Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris and among the images making jaws drop around the world is President-elect Trump sitting side by side with first lady Jill Biden. And as you can imagine, social media is having a field day! And rapper Jay-Z is coming out swinging today over an allegation in a civil lawsuit that he and Sean Diddy Combs raped a 13-year-old girl after the Video Music Awards in 2000. He and Combs deny the allegations. Jay-Z also claims “blackmail,” but the biggest heartbreak, he says, is for his family, including his wife Beyonce and their eldest daughter, 12-year-old Blue Ivy. Jess LeProtto's incredible voice, energy, razor sharp dance technique, and jaw-dropping jumps and turns have earned him a place in the Great White Way spotlight. He started singing and dancing at age 5, and performed in the Radio City Christmas Spectacular in Nashville as a kid. He went on to get his BFA in Musical Theatre from Pace University and shuffle ball changed his way into the company of The Boy From Oz, where he made his Broadway debut in 2003 followed by Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas! and Bye Bye Birdie. He played the role of Buttons in the original Broadway cast of Disney's Newsies, and it was that show that truly solidified his Broadway veteran status. Fun fact - Jess is the logo for the US national tour of Newsies. If you do a search for "Newsies US tour poster," you'll see him! Other Broadway credits include On the Town, the revival of CATS where he played Mungojerrie, Hello, Dolly!, Carousel, and is currently in A Beautiful Noise: The Neil Diamond Musical, where he performs 8 shows a week and also serves as the dance captain. You can also see Jess's work on film and television where he recently played A-Rab in Steven Spielberg's “West Side Story” for 20th Century Fox, a subsidiary of The Walt Disney Studios. He was also in Isn't It Romantic, Smash, Law & Order: SVU, One Life to Live, MTV's “Video Music Awards," and in 2011, he made it to the Top 8 on "So You Think You Can Dance!” Please welcome - a man who galloped as a waiter on the town while carrying the banner to the Heaviside layer where he's making a beautiful noise (see what we did there?) - Scott's pal, Jess LeProtto! --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/themouseandme/support

We are THRILLED to be talking this week about Mary-Kate and Ashley's appearance at MTV's 2003 Video Music Awards and subsequent Rolling Stone Cover (and never again about Mary-Kate and Ashley in Action). On August 28th 2003, Mary-Kate and Ashley made their second appearance at the MTV VMAs. For anyone who doesn't remember, this was a big year for the VMAs. This was the VMAs that opened with the notorious Britney Spears, Madonna & Christina Aguilera performance, and a tidbit that the history books don't mention is that Mary-Kate and Ashley were also there! They presented best pop video with David Spade, and every joke Chris Rock makes about them is as cringey as you can imagine. We also talk about their red carpet interview with SuChin Pak before the show, who asks them how they feel about Rolling Stone calling them "America's Fantasy," in their iconic cover that was coming out just a week later. In this interview and in the Rolling Stone article, Mary-Kate and Ashley walk the impossible tightrope of posing for a magazine with notoriously sexy covers while denying an awareness of their own sexuality amidst a barrage of reminders that America has started sexualizing them. We do our best to unpack this strange and unsettling time in pop culture history, and buckle up for the rollercoaster that is about to be our coverage of Mary-Kate and Ashley in 2003 & '04. We hope you enjoy this first chapter! You can also watch the video version of this ep by subscribing to our Patreon here. You can watch the full video of the 2003 VMAS here and read their Rolling Stone Article here.Find us on Social Media!Instagram: @theythoughtiwasyouTikTok: @theythoughtiwasyouBecca: @beccarothLani: @laniharmsQuestions/thoughts? Episode 184: First up in tidbits, Joe and Kari pay tribute to the iconic Irene Cara, who we sadly lost this past weekend. Her music inspired many conversations between Joe and Kari, both on and off the air, and she will be missed. Since it's episode 184, your hosts are looking at 1984 for significant events in Pop Music, and what could be bigger than the first ever MTV Video Music Awards? Bette Midler and Dan Aykroyd were the hosts who kept the show running smoothly (or did they?). The performances from Tina Turner, Rod Stewart, and Madonna had the audience gagged. The highs, the lows, and the WTFs are discussed as Joe and Kari dissect the inaugural "not your parents' award show".
We've arrived! It's the season seven finale to determine the next super mondo champion of champions! Sure, this game opens with a round based on sweaty wordplay, with round two building into a series metatextual mashup clues that combine multiple mediums. And yes, it culminates in a lightning round where the leaderboard is constantly shifting. But this is the finals, darnit, so returning champs Liz, Derek, and Matthew are all operating at a very high level, so the competition cannot be more tense. I had to stop writing this episode description to go pat myself down with a cool wet towel just from recalling how intense everything got. And I'm working from home today, so I forgot to put on Old Spice, so now the sweat has really cooked up a nasty stench in my general vicinity. And when it comes to straight up B.O., I wouldn't necessarily say that everyone loves their own brand

Today's show starts with a look at the recent earnings from Chewy (CHWY), an online marketplace for pet-related goods. Daniel and I discuss the results… what they tell us about consumers' spending habits… and what to watch out for when investing in retailers. Despite the ongoing market volatility, I highlight one asset class everyone should be buying right now… and why it's poised to rip higher on any sign of a slowdown in the Fed's interest rate hikes. We'll be taking advantage of the uptrend in my Curzio Venture Opportunities newsletter. (If you're not a member, join us here… get my picks as soon as they're released.) Switching gears a bit… The massive amount of money pouring into the metaverse is mind-boggling… especially when you consider it's happening in the midst of a brutal bear market for the tech sector. Daniel and I discuss some of the criticisms about the metaverse (like the current graphics quality) and explain why the critics are missing the long-term picture. I explain what to focus on when comparing different metaverses… and a project I'm working on with TCG World to give you a sneak peak at the mind-blowing opportunity its virtual land offers. I also rant about last weekend's Video Music Awards… and the opportunity it missed to showcase the potential of the metaverse. And finally, Daniel and I discuss the latest developments in the uranium/nuclear energy space. I break down why I'm more bullish than ever on this sector… and I share a handful of names you can invest in to participate in the uranium bull market. In this episode What Chewy's results tell us about consumers [3:15] An update on the massive money flowing into the metaverse [11:50] Coming soon: A sneak peek at TCG World [18:50] Why owning your own content is such a big deal [20:45] How the VMAs missed the mark on the metaverse [26:38] Why you need exposure to uranium right now [30:55] Enjoyed this episode? Behind nearly every superstar is a publicist. For a young Dale Earnhardt Jr, the man behind the public-machine that became the Dale Jr and the Budweiser number-eight was a man named Jade Gurss. Not many will know the name, but he was a major player in the growth and trajectory of Dale Earnhardt Jr.'s Hall of Fame NASCAR career. For the first time ever, Jade and Dale Jr sit down to talk about the good-old-days and some that were far from it.While doing public relations for Budweiser, Jade was the man managing Dale Jr behind the scenes. From at-track interviews to magazine articles, to appearances on major television shows, Jade Gurss was making things happen. Gurss and Dale Jr talk about some of the biggest things they did together, from presenting at the Video Music Awards, being on the Late Show, to Dale Jr hosting an episode of MTV cribs, it was a publicity path that brought Dale, and NASCAR, to areas of American culture that most drivers never went. Just how did some of it come about and how did the introverted Dale Jr handle being thrust into the spotlight on such a stage? It wasn't always simple. Dale and Jade even joke about sitting between Jessica Simpson and Mandy Moore at the VMA's to a blundered appearance on David Letterman's show. The print about the second-generation driver didn't just come in racing publications, the exposure soon rocketed from Sports Illustrated all the way to Playboy and Rolling Stone magazine. This conversation isn't just a two-way street either. Co-host Mike Davis, a long-time employee, and friend of Dale got his introduction and big opportunity getting hired by Jade Gurss to fill in for him on the Bud-8. The role grew Davis' public relations career to new heights. They reunite and tell stories of what it was like managing a young and difficult driver during years that saw everything from major parties to major appearances. They also put it all out on the table about Davis' decision to leave Gurss and take a full-time job with JR Motorsports. Takes of boxing ring black eyes with Arturo Gatti and rock-star-like bandana coverups highlight this insightful conversation. They also get deep about Dale's Mike Wallace interview and how Dale Jr believed his father pulled him from the burning Corvette racecar at Sonoma. Jade opens up about writing the book about Dale Jr., Driver #8, and the meeting with Teresa Earnhardt and Ty Norris right before it went to print. Before Jade showed up, Dale Jr and Mike Davis chit-chat about a cute video of Isla, that hints at the desire to be a racecar driver someday. Was it just cute or does Dale take it seriously? They also talk about the coming-of-age process of Jr Motorsports driver Noah Gragson and how he's developed relationships with sponsors that have helped him grow in his career.AskJr presented by Xfinity delivers some tough questions for Dale, including one about the role of the flagman that gets him thinking about something he's never paid much attention to. He shares a story about the first time TJ Majors spotted a Cup car and might've exaggerated the green flag call by a few corners. Dale discovers that he'll be racing against his great friend Josh Berry at Richmond this week, as Dale prepares for his lone time behind the wheel of a NASCAR racecar in 2021.The DJD gang poke fun at each other, mainly at producer Matthew Dillner's expense, and have a great time during this packed episode of awesomeness.
