A court in Australia has ordered Google to pay a former legislator some 715,000 Australian dollars in defamation damages over two videos posted to YouTube. The Australian Federal Court found that the two videos drove John Barilaro, the deputy premier of Australia's most populous state New South Wales, to quit politics prematurely. Judge Steven Rares says the videos, which were posted by political commentator Jordan Shanks amounted to a relentless, racist, vilification, abusive and defamatory campaign against Barilaro. The judge says that Alphabet Inc's Google, which owns content-sharing website YouTube, earned thousands of dollars by hosting the two videos but failed to apply its own policies to prevent hate speech, cyberbullying and harassment.

But Australian ex-pat Yassmin Abdel-Magied was triggered by all the Union Jacks many of which were displayed on buntings. Yassmin is back tweeting and giving interviews to promote a new book. Last week she told the Nine Newspapers she is considering revoking her Australian citizenship and if she hears an Australian accent anywhere she will leave. There was finally Justice for Johnny Depp with a jury ordering ex-wife Amber Heard to pay him $15 million in damages for defaming him in a Washington Post op-ed accusing him of domestic violence. Heard's acting career is over with all her scenes from Aquaman 2 cut. Former NSW Deputy Premier John Barilaro has been awarded by a Federal Court $715,000 in damages from Google for refusing to remove two YouTube videos by friendlyjordies (Jordan Shanks) that wrongfully suggested he was corrupt and also made racist remarks about his Italian heritage. Barilaro settled his suit against friendlyjordies late last year. Nick Patterson of the Australian Peacemakers has launched a Help Fight Corrupt Police fund as he will face trial in November accused of assaulting police when officers ran at anti-lockdown protestors during Melbourne's Lockdown number four last year. NSW Deputy Premier John Barilaro says legal action against a "vile and racist" social media attack played a role in his decision to resign and leave parliament.In a press conference on Monday morning, the NSW Nationals leader said it was "unbelievable" that he had to defend himself from "vile and racist attacks" in a social media setting."A young boy of migrant parents, I grew up, I understood what racism was, (I) was called many of those names, I didn't think in 2021 that will continue," he said."That in itself, can I say, was very difficult this year, and to be able to defend myself and continue with that case, I prefer to do it privately and not in the public eye."That has been a big reason for announcement, along with the opportunity that has now opened, that maybe now is the refresh."Barilaro is suing Jordan Shanks, known as FriendlyJordies, in the Federal Court over two videos which he claims defamed him in "vile and racist" attacks which portrayed him as a "corrupt conman".Barilaro said he had no intention of running for federal politics, which some earlier speculated.He said the resignation of Transport Minister Andrew Constance, who announced on Sunday he planned to switch to federal politics, may have influenced the timing his decision."I have been thinking about this for a long time. One of our listeners asked us to do an episode on the Friendlyjordies story. Friendlyjordies is Youtube star, Jordan Shanks - a 31-year-old from Sydney.  He started his satirical YouTube channel eight years ago, has half a million subscribers and has racked up 135m views. Dan Ilic is one of Australia’s most prolific comedic voices. Dan has been making television in Australia for ten years. James Colley is a Young Walkley nominated satirist and creator of The Backburner on SBS Comedy.
