For our 100th episode we're celebrating one of TV's hardest working genres: The Workplace Comedy. We'll discuss the classics, debate the mockumentary format, and marvel at the wide range of characters and stories that fit into this surprisingly versatile genre. We're talking about all our favorites, but in the second half of our conversation we're going to roll up our sleeves and dive deep into two specific workplace comedies: One is riding off into the sunset with its sixth and final season (FX's What We Do in the Shadows) and the other is riding high with early buzz and a full season order on NBC (St. Denis Medical). Vampires and doctors? In one genre?! What a world! But first! Follow-up that spans all across the year in news: Paramount, parades, Iger, ESPN, the MAX app, another password sharing crackdown, and yes! A very special 100th Episode Game that we're calling HBO or NO?! We'll even answer the burning question of our time: Is The Bear a workplace comedy? ———
It's hot out, so why not stay inside with two of the most influential (and bingeable) shows from the mid-2000s? It's a Summer Show Swap that pits one of Dianne's favorite series against one of Chris's. Which side will you take? ✈️

TV is back and so are we! After a half-season delay (due to last year's strikes) CBS and ABC are back with their hit sitcoms Ghosts and Abbott Elementary. Despite the extended hiatus both shows are entering their third seasons with a ton of momentum and a stacked (and growing) ensemble. Whether you're a longtime fan or a brand new viewer: We'll tell you what you need to know to dive into two of our favorite comedies. Plus: Jon Stewart is back on The Daily Show and bringing in the highest ratings the show has seen since… Jon Stewart was on The Daily Show (go figure!). We'll share some hot takes on the evolution of late night and the show's precarious future. But it's not all laughs in Hollywood: Pilot season has all but vanished, with spring sitcom production down over 90% from a decade ago. Can comedy survive the industry's historical contraction? We'll debate the future of funny as we catch up on a lighting round of streaming news! ⚡️ ———

This REVIEW is NOT part of an Instagram Social Media advertising campaign that NADIA did for the distributors of The Fabelmans. This Review is NOT part of that campaign & was not requested by the brand partner. ------------------------------------- The Fabelmans is a 2022 American coming-of-age drama film directed by Steven Spielberg, who co-wrote and co-produced it with Tony Kushner. The film is a semi-autobiographical story loosely based on Spielberg's adolescence and first years as a filmmaker, told through an original story of the fictional Sammy Fabelman, a young aspiring filmmaker who explores how the power of films can help him see the truth about his dysfunctional family and those around him. It stars Gabriel LaBelle as Sammy, alongside Michelle Williams, Paul Dano, Seth Rogen, and Judd Hirsch in supporting roles. The film is dedicated to the memories of Spielberg's real-life parents Leah Adler and Arnold Spielberg, who died in 2017 and 2020, respectively. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/popcorn-junkies/message

The Batman is a 2022 American superhero film based on the DC Comics character Batman. Produced by DC Films, 6th & Idaho, and Dylan Clark Productions, and distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, it is a reboot of the Batman film franchise. The film was directed by Matt Reeves, who wrote the screenplay with Peter Craig. It stars Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne / Batman alongside Zoë Kravitz, Paul Dano, Jeffrey Wright, John Turturro, Peter Sarsgaard, Andy Serkis, and Colin Farrell. Set after two years of fighting crime, the film sees Batman uncover corruption in Gotham City while pursuing the Riddler (Dano), a serial killer who targets Gotham's elite. Development began after Ben Affleck was cast as Batman in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) in 2013. Affleck signed on to direct, produce, co-write, and star in The Batman, but had reservations about the project and dropped out. Reeves took over and reworked the story, removing the DCEU connections. He sought to explore Batman's detective side more than previous films, drawing inspiration from 1970s films and comics such as "Year One" (1987), The Long Halloween (1996–97), and Ego (2000). Pattinson was cast in May 2019, with further casting in late 2019. Principal photography took place in the UK and Chicago between January 2020 and March 2021. The Batman premiered in London on February 23, 2022, and was theatrically released on March 4. It was delayed twice from an initial June 2021 release date due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Critics praised the performances, cinematography, direction, visual style, action sequences, and story, though some criticized the length. It is intended to launch a Batman shared universe, with two sequels planned and two spin-off television series in development for HBO Max. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/popcorn-junkies/message

In the fist half of the episode, we talk about our pre-viewing thoughts, expectations and impressions about it punctuated by a small trivia quiz and other fun facts. We then give the movie a tentative rating (on a scale of 0-5 Snake Plisskens) based on the discussion. We then come to the intermission, where we take a break and watch the film in question. In the second half we have a similar conversation and discuss our post-viewing thoughts and see how right, wrong or on the nose we were about the film and give it our final rating.
