We're taking another trip down But Why memory lane to find a chat all about your gut. Clemmie welcomed twins Lisa and Alana Macfarlane (aka DJs The Mac Twins), who set up The Gut Stuff website to empower gut health in everyone after taking part in a piece of ground breaking research. Lisa and Alana had tried every fad diet under the sun, including the cabbage soup diet pre-Magaluf 2005 (remember that?) and grew up in Scotland eating deep-fried pizza and chips That all changed when they volunteered to be part of the TwinsUK research at King's College London. Twins are a great constant for medical research, and they became the ‘chief guinea pigs' for the British Gut Project. They discovered that despite twins having 100% of the same DNA, their guts shared only 30–40% of the same microbiota (head to intro to the gut for more on the basics!), which could explain why all of our bodies behave so differently. Check out Lisa and Alana on Instagram @themactwins and The Gut Stuff @thegutstuff. And visit Home - The Gut Stuff for more info on how you can improve your gut health. The episode was made in partnership with Bimuno. Biumuno Daily is a unique, high in fibre prebiotic supplement that has been proven to need and stimulate the growth of good bacteria in the gut. Absolutely all of us can and should take proactive steps to ensure good gut-health, even if we don't have any issues to speak of. The gut influences everything – from our overall physical health, including what we can and can't eat, to our mental health through the strong brain-gut connection. In this bonus Q&A episode, Alana and Lisa Macfarlane, aka the Mac Twins and founders of The Gut Stuff, will reveal how to ensure your gut is in the best shape to keep both body and mind as healthy as possible. They'll be covering all the basics, so, if you've ever found yourself wondering what exactly the gut is and why it matters, or whether you need to download a poo-colour chart (answer: probably), then trust your gut and tune in.RESOURCES Boots digestive health, vitamins and supplements: www.boots.com/wellness/vitaminsandsupplements/digestive-healthWhat Your Poop Can Tell You About Your Health (boots.com): www.boots.com/inspiration-advice/wellness-advice/healthy-lifestyle/what-your-poop-can-tell-you-about-your-health The Gut Stuff at Boots: search ‘boots the gut stuff' online. Our Hannah might not seem like the most likely candidate for a chat about Valentine's Day, but when she found out Standard Issue fave Val McDermid was presenting Cupid Loves Eros, a Radio 4 programme exploring queer love poetry, she was on the Zoom like a ferret up a (too long) trouser leg. They talk about representations of love in literature, the interest in queer love, and the return of Karen Pirie, among other things.Presenters, former DJs, gut health aficionados and hosts of Know Your Sh!t, Lisa Macfarlane and Alana Macfarlane-Kempner, aka The Mac Twins, are breaking taboos with the new Channel 4 show. On episode 95 of Just The Fitness Tip, we speak with former Love Island DJs and Virgin Radio presenters, Lisa & Alana MacFarlane, The Mac Twins. After volunteering to be part of the TwinsUK research at King's College London, they founded The Gut Stuff, an online wellness platform designed to promote the importance of a healthy gut. We ask why they went from DJing events for Simon Cowell and presenting Love Island to telling people to care more about their gut microbiome. They make look like Gwyneth Paltrow and they certain talk a lot of sh*t but and their company isn't part of the ‘eat like me, look like me' brigade of mindless influencers. Instead, with the help of a wealth of experts researching this exciting new field, they tell us why they turned their back on showbiz to take a gamble starting a company their management said would "ruin their careers" in order to bring gut health to the masses. They share tips from their book, The Gut Stuff: An Empowering Guide to Your Gut and Its Microbes, to help regulate your hormones, control your blood sugar, manage the calories that you absorb, affect your immune system and, most fascinatingly, communicate with your nervous system and you're brain. About The Mac Twins: The Gut Stuff was launched in 2017, following Alana and Lisa Macfarlane’sinvaluable participation in a ground-breaking piece of research into whether gut health is determined by genetics or environmental factors, led by an expert in genetics and nutrition Professor Tim Spector of King's College London. It was in sharing 100% of their DNA that made Alana and Lisa's participation vital to the results. Despite being identical, the bacteria in their guts were just 30% the same. They’ve since grown an expert team of scientists, nutritionists, dieticians, and doctors to keep us all on the right side of the tracks, creating a six-film YouTube series to raise awareness and empower everyone to make better everyday choices for their health. 100% the same DNA. Only 40% the same microbiome. This was the shocking discovery that led today's identical twin guests down a path that's just getting started. On today's show, celebrity DJs Lisa and Alana Macfarlane (The Mac Twins) talk about that initial discovery that shocked them to their core, and why they became so passionate about topics like poo. The Mac Twins also tell Andrea what they've learned after talking to thousands of people in the UK about gut health through their new company, The Gut Stuff, and dish on their plans to make 2019 their most inspiring year yet.
Welcome to the first episode of #VerifiedViews! Our first guests are Alana and Lisa Macfarlane, also known as The Mac Twins. Redefining what it means to be influencers; The Mac Twins are DJs by night and gut health advocates by day, having launched their ground-breaking passion project: The Gut Stuff. Better known as DJs and presenters, we're joined by the Mac Twins to discuss their other passion: gut health! As part of the British Gut Project and Twin Research, Alana and Lisa Macfarlane founded The Gut Stuff, a website dedicated to bringing awareness of gut health to the public. Part of their motivation is sharing the research conducted on how gut health impacts every part of a person's life, and they join us to cover how twins can share 100% DNA and just 40% microbiome, why the public should be aware of their gut health, and how they hope to see the sector develop. This is the ultimate in dispelling the 'one-size-fits-all' nutrition myth.
Cariad talks to DJ's, writers and presenters, Alana and Lisa Macfarlane, otherwise known as The Mac Twins. As ever they talk about grief, shock and the difficulties of dealing with death differently to your siblings.
