https://notesonfilm1.com/2024/11/29/pofcrit-podcast-2024-dylan-day-on-trainspotting-danny-boyle-1996/ Adapted from the 1993 novel by Irvine Welsh, Danny Boyle's Trainspotting is as whimsical as it is putrid. One of the most iconic and provocative films of the 1990s, it serves to examine the life of heroin addict Mark Renton and his addict friends as they endlessly search for the next hit. With an unrivalled energy and an unforgettable soundtrack, we seek to dig deeper into this film's messages and influences of the film, its context within the “Britpop” movement, its allusions to Thatcher's Britian, its representations of addiction beyond heroin and so on. We take a look at how effective the audio-visual style of Trainspotting is at conveying the visceral experience of drug addiction and how it is unique in its representation of addiction. Join us as we talk about all this and more.
The film is structured around Renton's attempts to get clean, relapses, and interactions with the darker sides of Edinburgh's drug scene. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

"It's sh*#e being Scottish", once uttered Ewan McGregor as Mark Renton in Trainspotting. It certainly has that feel about dealing with contracts, loans, transfer budgets and more as we work our way through pre-season in Scotland. We've got far-flung friendlies against Lens, Morecambe, Albion Rovers, Colchester and more to look forward to this week along with the arrival of more triallists (who doesn't love a good trial when you can't scout or struggle to sign players pre-season), and some more Irish players to bolster the Hibs ranks. Frustrations are there already with a number of big injuries in pre-season already forcing a change of tactic and approach for the year ahead but it's all part of the fun of the fair.If you want to get involved or share updates on your own FM journey, find us on Twitter @FMFShow.Contains strong language.

Using heroin to numb the pain of simply existing, Mark Renton drifts through a series of episodic adventures in nineties Edinburgh. Renton and his friends find themselves caught up in a web of sex, violence, drug abuse and existential malaise, grappling with challenges both large and small as they struggle to make it out the other side of their experiences.

Mark Renton and his friends tear through the slums of Edinburgh in their endless pursuit of their next heroin fix. Choosing life, Renton goes south of the border but soon gets sucked back into his old ways. One of the most important British films ever made, Trainspotting transcended the medium and captured the cultural zeitgeist of Cool Britannia in the mid 90s. Bristling with volatile kinetic energy, it made stars out of all its cast and catapulted Danny Boyle to A list movie director status. Choose life, choose a career, choose All The Right Movies.
