Welcome to the LIVING FOR THE BOYLE review series! Daniel Francis Boyle originally hailed from Manchester, England and his filmmaking career took off thirty years ago in 1995 with the release of acclaimed cult thriller Shallow Grave. And ever since then, Danny Boyle (as he's officially known) has carved out a uniquely successful career not only achieving box office success several times but also winning a few Oscars along the way. During this time period, he has also become one of MY personal favorite directors, having helmed excellent ORIGINAL stories spanning several genres including children's fantasy, science fiction, crime drama, horror, and biopic. Over the next few months, I will be reviewing some of my favorite entries from his filmography in the lead-up to the long-awaited sequel to one of his more successful films….28 Years Later which will be released in the U.S. on June 20!Twenty-nine years ago, this raw, high-energy adaptation of Irvine Welsh's novel about a group of young men in Edinburgh (Scotland) scoring heroin took the world by storm. Of course, it was about more than just the drugs....it was a frenetic crime comedy/drama not only exploring addiction but youth. It also featured a top-flight cast of up-and-coming UK actors along with an iconic soundtrack! Starring Ewan McGregor, Ewen Bremner, Jonny Lee Miller, Robert Carlyle, Kevin McKidd, and Kelly McDonald, it's time to find out about whether to....Choose Life. The Crow (1994) is a film that probably should never have been touched after the 90's and very early 2000's. It's remembered first for infamy and tragedy on set. Mike Burton is not only the creator and host of Genuine Chit-Chat and Star Wars Comics In Canon podcasts, a great friend and supporter of the show, but he's picked our movie to review for this week, Trainspotting from 1996. Trainspotting, directed by Danny Boyle, was a bold and innovative endeavor that brought Irvine Welsh's acclaimed novel to the screen. Boyle, known for his dynamic filmmaking style, collaborated with screenwriter John Hodge to adapt Welsh's darkly comedic yet harrowing exploration of heroin addiction. The film's production faced challenges in translating the novel's intense and visceral narrative to the screen, particularly in depicting the gritty and hallucinatory aspects of addiction. The casting of a talented ensemble, including Ewan McGregor, Ewen Bremner, Jonny Lee Miller, and Robert Carlyle, contributed to the authenticity of the characters and the film's overall impact. Boyle's kinetic direction, combined with the pulsating soundtrack featuring tracks from iconic bands like Underworld and Iggy Pop, added an electrifying energy to the film. The production team skillfully captured the gritty urban landscapes of Edinburgh, enhancing the raw and immersive quality of the storytelling. "Trainspotting" achieved critical acclaim for its uncompromising portrayal of addiction, its dark humor, and its visual inventiveness. The film's success marked a turning point in British cinema, and its cultural impact endures, solidifying its place as a seminal work of the 1990s and a defining film of the British new wave. In a quatrain Nostradamus stated: "In the year 2024, two self-proclaimed cinephiles who uncover full-frontal male nudity in cinema, will uncover Mike Leigh's NAKED". It's crazy right? We can hardly believe it ourselves. But Nostradamus was right, we are covering Mike Leigh's NAKED. In a career best for David Thewlis, co-starring Lesley Sharp, Katrin Cartlidge, Gregg Cruttwell, Claire Skinner, Ewen Bremner et al., we dive deep into the seedy underbelly of urban London and it's nocturnal dwellers in what some have referred to as an "odyssey". Warnings have been shelled out before but NAKED is one which takes you to a very dark place so be advised even if 50% of us still believes this was a "black comedy".

En este episodio conversamos sobre la película del año 2000, “Snatch” del director Guy Ritchie, protagonizada por Jason Statham, Brad Pitt, Stephen Graham, Dennis Farina, Alan Ford y Benicio Del Toro.
Ridley Scott's terrific depiction of the events of the Battle of Mogadishu kicks off Operations week as we watch 2001's BLACK HAWK DOWN. I thought I was being so clever picking this, with the disastrous events of Operation Gothic Serpent in which US troops extracted General Mohamed Farrah Aidid from the Somali capital at a terrible human cost providing the backdrop to a memorable scene of impromptu battlefield femoral artery surgery. If I'd patted myself on the back any harder at the idea of picking a movie that featured a memorable operation within a memorable operation I'd have broken my own spine so naturally when a listener offers up an example of an operation within an operation within an operation for us to discuss in this week's main episode it crushed my fragile ego to oblivion. Bravo listener! Also bravo to Ridley Scott, who delivers up a still spectacular looking by today's standards action masterpiece with an incredible cast of, well, too many to mention really but Tom Sizemore, Eric Bana, Ewan McGregor, Orlando Bloom, William Fichtner, Jason Isaacs, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Jeremy Piven, Ioan Gruffudd, Sam Shepard, Ewen Bremner, Ashton Kutcher and Tom Hardy debuting here as 'Thomas'. You can see the influence this had on video game franchises, with everything from its saturated colour palette to its pro-military but anti-war themes copied comprehensively in first person shooters. Another strong recommend from the Dads. We love to hear from our listeners! By which I mean we tolerate it. If it hasn't been completely destroyed yet you can usually find us on twitter @dads_film, on Facebook Bad Dads Film Review, on email at baddadsjsy@gmail.com or on our website baddadsfilm.com. Film writer Veronica Phillips joins Aaron to discuss 'Trainspotting' Danny Boyle's restless adaptation of Irvine Welsh's tale of heroin addiction, reluctant camaraderie, and a generation's failure to reject the principles of a post-Thatcher UK.We discuss the film's breakout performance from then-relative newcomer Ewan McCregor, explore the distinctly 90s evocation of addiction and its roots, and ponder the question of what makes a "good" drug movie. Yes, we're finally chatting the sequel to Trainspotting (1996) for our 'Forward Flash' episode! We had such a blast talking this film, it's probably one of the only sequels that actually holds up to the original and is an utter delight. Me and Jai point out how the characters changed in 20 years and the many nods to the original. linktr.ee/CatchingUpOnCinema In this installment of Catching Up On Cinema's “Drinking Movie Month,” Kyle introduces Trevor to Danny Boyle's, Trainspotting (1996)! Based on a novel by Irvine Welsh, the film is a charismatic and high energy tale about a gang of troubled Scottish youths and their misadventures in navigating drug abuse in the modern world. Headlined by a very young Ewan McGregor, the film is packed with emerging Scottish and British talent, consisting of the likes of Ewen Bremner, Robert Carlisle, Jonny Lee Miller and Kevin McKidd. Stylish and borderline anarchic in it's presentation, the film's presentation and breakneck pace are utterly intoxicating, all the while somehow managing a largely upbeat atmosphere despite the subject matter periodically veering into truly dark territory. A Scottish Podcast About Scotland!Beware all the swears in this episode! This week we are talking about the 1996 hit movie from director Danny Boyle: Trainspotting. We discuss the cultural impact this movie (and the Irvine Welsh book it was based on) had on Scotland and the UK film industry at the time. We talk about the amazing cast, where they are now and some of our favourite scenes. This film is undoubtably better and more true to life in Scotland than Braveheart ever was, so if you haven't seen it yet - go do that, then come back and listen (also, it's ok if you need to turn on the subtitles). This week on Total Movie Recall, we try to decide whether this is a charming, unique film about staying true to yourself, or a nightmarish descent into the insanity that comes with living in a barren, desolate landscape like rural Idaho, where the Uncle Ricos of the world keep subterranean dungeons for unsuspecting Debs. This might say more about where our heads are at right now than about this beloved comedy. Napoleon Dynamite (2004) d. Jared Hess w. Jared Hess, Jerusha Hess Starring: Jon Heder Efren Ramirez Jon Gries Aaron Ruell Diedrich Bader Tina Majorino Sandy Martin In small-town Preston, Idaho, awkward teen Napoleon Dynamite has trouble fitting in. Richard Jobson was a teenager when he fronted The Skids, one of the most influential punk bands to come out of the UK scene in the 1970's. With Stuart Adamson on guitar, (later of Big Country fame), The Skids produced memorable punk anthems like Into the Valley, The Saints Are Coming, and Working For The Yankee Dollar. The Skids albums Scared to Dance and the brilliant Days in Europa stood out as lyrical and musical beacons of the punk/post-punk era. Post Skids, Jobson fronted The Armoury Show, named after the famous 1913 art show in New York that introduced America to the European avant-garde. The Armoury Show featured John McGeogh on guitar, perhaps the most creative guitarist to come out of the punk/post-punk scene, having played in Siouxsie and the Banshees, and the influential, Magazine. Richard Jobson is a writer, television host, filmmaker and actor. He can be seen playing the father of Alan McGee of Creation Records fame in the upcoming biopic, Creation Stories, about McGee's life. The film is set for release in the UK in March 2021, and is written by Irvine Welsh of Trainspotting fame, and Dean Cavanagh, starring Ewen Bremner as Alan McGee.Support the show (https://ko-fi.com/soundmanconfidential)

In honor of the sequel having just been released, we’re going back to the distant year of 2017 to break down who almost starred in Wonder Woman! Which Grammy-winning pop star was considered for Diana? Which Oscar-winner was offended when they offered her the ‘mom role’ of Queen Hippolyta? What would the Julie Taymor-directed Wonder Woman have looked like? And does this film feature the first instance of a ‘reverse She’s All That’? Also – whose idea was it to slap a lopsided mustache on the God of War?? Wonder Woman stars Gal Gadot, Chris Pine, Connie Nielsen, Robin Wright, Danny Huston, Elena Anaya, Saïd Taghmaoui, Ewen Bremner, Eugene Brave Rock, Lucy Davis, and David Thewlis; directed by Patty Jenkins Follow the Podcast:On Instagram: @andalmoststarring On Facebook: @andalmoststarringHave a film you’d love for us to cover? Well we've done it, but at what cost? This episode covers the two films in the quite frankly very bad AVP franchise - 'Alien V Predator', and 'AVP: Requiem' and as is tradition, it's a drinking game doozy. Alien vs. Predator (also known as AVP: Alien vs. Predator) is a 2004 science fiction action film written and directed by Paul W. S. Anderson, and starring Sanaa Lathan, Raoul Bova, Lance Henriksen and Ewen Bremner. It is the first film installment of the Alien vs. Predator franchise, adapting a crossover bringing together the eponymous creatures of the Alien and Predator series, a concept which originated in a 1989 comic book. Anderson wrote the story together with the creators of the Alien franchise, Dan O'Bannon and Ronald Shusett, and Anderson and Shane Salerno adapted the story into a screenplay. Their writing was influenced by Aztec mythology, the comic book series, and the writings of Erich von Däniken. In the film, scientists are caught in the crossfire of an ancient battle between Aliens and Predators as they attempt to escape a bygone pyramid. Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem (also known as AVPR: Aliens vs. Predator – Requiem) is a 2007 American science fiction action film directed by the Brothers Strause (Colin and Greg Strause) in their directorial debut and written by Shane Salerno. The film stars Steven Pasquale, Reiko Aylesworth, John Ortiz, Johnny Lewis, and Ariel Gade. It is a sequel to Alien vs. Predator (2004), and the second and latest installment in the Alien vs. Predator franchise, continuing the crossover between the Alien and Predator franchises.

Jonathan and Matt are, like the rest of you, in isolation at the moment. Safely ensconced in their own homes across the Atlantic, they decided it was time to do a miniseries of films that feel a little too relatable right now. Not to make light of the scary situation we all currently find ourselves in the midst of, but rather to make this time of contemplation a little more enjoyable. The guys as that you seek out the films or, in some cases, you avoid them and then listen to our mini-sodes.

Welcome to this week's podcast as we hold the metaphorical tourniquet and inject you with our audio-skag. No c**t listens to this till we find out what c**t made it. (That would be Steve Norman, Owen Hughes, Paul Field and Matt Lambourne.) This week's main review is T2: Trainspotting; Danny Boyle's eagerly awaited (loose) adaptation of Irvine Welsh's sequel to his classic 1996 movie, starring Ewan McGregor, Ewen Bremner, Jonny Lee Miller and Robert Carlyle. Before all of that is this week's quiz, which follows Owen's verbal tirade about last week's booby-prize, the nonsensical British comedy Essex Spacebin, destined to be this year's Mob Handed. There's also a chat about the SAG awards as well reviews of Sadako vs Kayako (aka The Ring vs The Grudge), Oscar contender Hidden Figures, Paul's film of the year, A Man Called Ove, and the resurgent Shin Godzilla. Join us again next week for what will hopefully be two brand new episodes. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
