In this episode of The Profile, the Grammy-nominated Australian songwriter Mia Fieldes (Hillsong, Bethel, The Belonging Co) shares her incredible journey of faith and resilience with Woman Alive's deputy editor Jemimah Wright. Despite facing significant health challenges and fertility issues, including the removal of one of her ovaries, Mia held steadfast in her belief in God's promises that she would be blessed with a child. From grappling with multiple surgeries to overcoming the odds to conceive naturally, Mia explains how she's been able to face life's challenges with hope and gratitude. As a child, Mia found solace in writing letters to God every night expressing her faith and trust in him (and she still has boxes of those letters!). She met her husband through Hillsong Church in Sydney, before moving to Nashville where she now resides. She also recounts how she prayed in faith for a husband and then waited, trusting in God's promises. Her experience of receiving prophetic words and signs, and even dreams from friends about her future marriage, helped her to keep believing. Today, she characterises her journey as being one marked by miracles and an unwavering belief in God's goodness. In every hard thing, there's an opportunity for an upgrade, she says. Mia Fieldes is living her miracle right now — she's about to give birth to her baby girl after being told by multiple specialists that pregnancy wasn't likely, but she'd be the first one to tell you that trusting in a promise from God doesn't guarantee an easy path. Sadie and Mia quickly get deep talking about navigating seasons of waiting and why the holding pattern might feel like a huge delay, but it's ultimately going to get you to your destination quicker! Mia encourages us to be sure our filter and outlook on our life isn't disappointment — or you won't be able to see all that God IS giving you, regardless of the season of your life. Mia challenges us all to actively be asking God for a promise, especially if you're in a time of waiting on Him. Sadie remembers one particular dance on "Dancing with the Stars" where a split-second decision surprised her and her dance partner with the result, but was a great lesson too! Mia Fieldes Dunnavant, is a Australian/American singer song writer with a passion for music and communicating God's truth. She is wife to Joren Dunnavant, soon to be mommy to a beautiful baby girl and local church builder in Nashville, TN at the Belonging Co. Church. Mia's faith in God is not only something she so eloquently writes about in her music but it's the banner she's lived under for many years. Her testimony of flourishing where she is planted is a marker for her life and a key component to her unwavering faith in Jesus. In today's episode, Mia Fieldes Dunnavant joins us alongside Jourdan Johnson to share her faithful testimony in how she's had to wait & walk with God in every season of her life. Mia carefully unpacks all that it means to surrender every gift and desire back to God trusting He knows the time and season of all things in our lives. This conversation reminds us that the desires we hold dearly in our hearts over our gifts, seasons of life or even dreams can be laid before God believing He will unfold it all in His timing. There are few people I've encountered who have the amount of faith in the goodness, provision, sovereignty, and kindness of God. Mia Fielde's story is one she shares without a shudder and with eyes fully focused on the redemptive story God is telling through her life. Her craft as a songwriter, worship leader, and call as a spiritual leader wherever she is, is one that consistently leaves me challenged. As far as "beginning with the end in mind", LOVE is a good place to start. The Bible shares that faith, hope and love are three things that will remain and the greatest of these is love (1 Corinthian 13:13). For many of us though, our lived experiences and relationships will tell us that love can be difficult to initiate and sustain. As River City moves on with its new mission statement, "Love others" is our highest aim and we need one another to figure this out. Thank you Newsstand Studio at 1 Rockefeller Plaza for providing a place for me to record this episode for y'all! No more Brooklyn closet recording!!! Welcome to the TRC Remix Series #10. If you're not sure what this series is click here for more info! I thought it'd be cool to end this series with a conversation that meant SO much to me personally. Like if no one else ever heard this call between Mia Fieldes + I -- it wouldn't really matter, because our chat deeply impacted me. As a single person who is now 36 years old and has been actively waiting for a very long time to meet my person— there's times I grow weary. There's times I want to let go of hope and just say forget it. I'm tired of hoping and not getting what I want. I'm tired of the wait. I'm tired of the refining. Mia Fieldes reminded me that first of all it's ok to admit that being single is freakin' hard + also how beautifully possible it is to stay connected to hope. If you are feeling tired and weary of hoping...this episode is for you. Staying Connected to Hope in Singleness "How do you believe God for something that is fully dependent on somebody else's free will?" There's an invitation to follow peace so when you are in a storm peace becomes your anchor. "Everyone told me marriage would be hard… and I thought 'yeah but being single is hard.'" "When you get to a certain age, people put limitations on you that God never does." She notices that everyone seems to be fighting for a piece of the pie, but everyone gets their own whole pie. She got her own promise from God. Keeping Perspective If we spend our energy complaining, we will get no closer to where we want to be. We will receive that negative energy back. "You create your world with your words." Mia recalls the journey she went on with God guiding her toward a positive mindset and eventually her husband. "God plucked my husband seemingly out of nowhere." "If you have to convince someone into something, then believe me someone will convince them out of it." It's easy to worry about the things you'll have to compromise on, but when the right person comes along, you'll realize there is no real compromise to be made. "It's so important to go to God for yourself and get your own promise. Otherwise you will filter what God is doing with you through everyone else's story." "I don't want the plagiarized version of somebody else's story." Mia says that her husband, Joren, has been healing for her. "God is writing a way bigger story than you can think about." Top Three Things To Look For In Your Person Growth mindset. Conflict savvy. Communication! "When you get to a certain age, people put limitations on you that God never does." What limitations are you putting on yourself, on your circumstances, on God...that God never put on you? What if despite the evidence, you chose to hope? What would your life look like if you truly believed that God was using all things for your good? What if God was conspiring every moment in your life FOR YOU, not against you? How would your life look? Would it feel any different? Would you be acting / being / hoping differently? I want you to sit with that. Resources Keep up with Mia Fieldes on Instagram at @miafieldes. Hope Darst is a Fair Trade recording artist and a worship leader at the Belongingco church in Nashville alongside the likes of Natalie Grant, Mia Fieldes, Meredith Andrews, and many more well-known worship leaders and artists. But a record deal and commercial exposure were a long time in the making for Hope. It was a dream she had all but given up on. Hope felt from a young age that she was destined to sing. She had tried to launch her career several times, but to no avail. As she describes now, her dream was put on hold for years as God worked on her from the inside out. She calls those her “basement years” when she was learning to be a great wife and Mom, delaying her lifelong musical aspirations. But all that has begun to change. While diligently seeking the Lord and practicing her faith in contentment and obscurity, God has steadily been increasing Hope’s visibility as a worship leader and songwriter. Opportunities she could not have engineered have been found and she is now launching a music career at a time when many would be looking to leave touring and public ministry for a quieter time at home. But God had different plans and more than a few surprises waiting for Hope. Debuting at radio during the first weeks of the global Coronavirus pandemic, her first single after years of waiting in the wings, Peace Be Still, should have been shut down like the rest of the world. Instead, it has become a massive chorus of faith during this crisis. And no one is more surprised than Hope herself. “All I cared about, John, was God. I want the Spirit of God to be on this song, “Hope tells John Chisum during this powerful interview. “I've heard it said before that, when you write songs from an encounter with the Lord, you lock up that encounter within the song. And when it is sung over people or when other people sing it, they, too, then have that encounter released into their own lives.” In this personable interview, John Chisum and Hope Darst discuss the deep...

This week on the podcast, I’m chatting with Mia Fieldes, who I first discovered through another podcast. Whenever I become obsessed with someone’s story, I love to look them up, but Mia is a very private person. We start off talking about the pressure today to share everything while we’re in it. As my mentor says, we have to teach from our scars not our scabs. “You have to be okay with some things being hidden.” Mia is a Grammy-nominated songwriter who is from Australia and is living in Nashville with her husband. She has written songs for Hillsong, including No. 1 radio hits ‘He Knows My Name,’ ‘Chainbreaker,’ and ‘First.’ On this episode, we talk about pursuing God’s calling as well as staying connected to hope and keeping perspective in seasons of singleness. Pursuing God’s Calling “When I was really little, I really did think I was going to do something amazing.” She grew up as a triplet and remembers when her sisters would go to bed she would write letters to God saying, “One day I’m going to do something amazing for you. One day I’m going to write songs all over the world.” “Faith is incredibly hard and it’s incredibly easy.” Her mother was 22, single, and pregnant with triplets. She struggled with drug abuse, they lived in the projects, and they received food stamps from the Salvation Army. The Salvation Army noticed her mother had three little kids and so they brought them to Sunday school. There, Mia sang songs about Jesus and developed the foundation of her faith. “My mom was on the same journey as I was.” Staying Connected to Hope in Singleness “How do you believe God for something that is fully dependent on somebody else’s free will?” She spent a lot of time being single and didn’t even kiss a boy until she was 22. When she was beginning her first relationship, she realized that she was putting so much pressure on it because she had waited so long to enter her first relationship. “I felt a grace to be single.” You have to follow peace so that when you are in the storm your peace is your anchor. “Everyone told me marriage would be hard… and I thought ‘yeah but being single is hard.’” It’s all your perspective, but there is beauty in every season. “When you get to a certain age, people put limitations on you that God never does.” She notices that everyone seems to be fighting for a piece of the pie, but everyone gets their own whole pie. She got her own promise from God. Keeping Perspective We need to be optimistic. If we spend our energy complaining, we will get no closer to where we want to be. We will receive that negative energy back. “You create your world with your words.” Mia recalls the journey she went on with God guiding her toward a positive mindset and eventually her husband. “God plucked my husband seemingly out of nowhere.” “If you have to convince someone into something, then believe me someone will convince them out of it.” It’s easy to worry about the things you’ll have to compromise on, but when the right person comes along, you’ll realize there is no real compromise to be made. “It’s so important to go to God for yourself and get your own promise. Otherwise you will filter what God is doing with you through everyone else’s story.” “I don’t want the plagiarized version of somebody else’s story.” Mia says that her husband, Joren, has been healing for her. “God is writing a way bigger story than you can think about.” Top Three Things To Look For In Your Person Look for someone who is committed to change. A partner must also be able to handle conflict well. Communication! Mia doesn’t have a website, but she does have an Instagram! You can give her a follow at @miafieldes. What to expect when you’re spiritually expecting: Expect that there’s going to be a process. That you’re going to need God to say don’t be afraid. But also expect that when it’s God it will bring change, holiness, Kingdom into everything. This past Sunday, guest speaker Mia Fieldes, grammy-nominated songwriter, preached a powerful message on intimacy with God and the process of giving birth to a God dream. Nothing that God grows comes into the world without having to breathe through it with Him, lean into Him, trust Him through it.
Mia Fieldes is one of the most prolific songwriters in worship music today. After beginning her career as part of Hillsong Church in Australia, Mia felt God calling her to step out on her own. Since then she has penned dozens of powerful songs including Fearless and Christ is Risen. Her songs have been recorded by Hillsong United, Jesus Culture, Passion, and Lauren Daigle among many others. In 2015 Mia released her debut solo EP entitled Ashes. While difficult to admit, our ongoing battle with sin is not because an enemy external to us, but due to our own desires that give birth to sin in our hearts. Welcome to The Shaun Tabatt Show! Sommer Floyd returns to the show today to share about her new album Ray of Light. About Sommer Floyd: Emerging recording artist SommerFloyd has unveiled her highly anticipated debut CD, Ray of Light. The new CD, which was produced by Multi-Dove Award winner Steven V. Taylor (Michael W. Smith, Matt Redman, Veggie Tales) and recorded at the legendary Dark Horse Recording Studio in Franklin, Tennessee, released to retail Friday, November 11, 2016, through SommerFloyd Music. A joyful amalgamation of sparkling Pop/Rock, New Country and Contemporary Worship, Floyd's inaugural release has drawn comparisons to artists like Kari Jobe, Mia Fieldes, Laura Story and The Band Perry's Kimberly Perry. Fan favorites include the celebratory "Children of God," the fun and encouraging Pop-Country anthem, "Drop and Run," and the gently meandering confessional ballad, "I Need You." Floyd allows her natural effervescence to shine through on the exuberant "Ray of Light," a song she says was inspired by a lazy summer afternoon spent in the company of her young daughter, Heidi. "We were sitting outside looking up at the sun," she recalls. "I realized, that's how we are supposed to be as believers. We were meant to shine as a ray of light, to illuminate the dark places." Floyd's love of the great outdoors served as inspiration for a number of other songs on the project, including the upbeat anthem, "Let It Rain," the gently rocking, "Lighthouse," and the slow-burning "Live Like Jesus." She unveils her vulnerable heart in the lovely, yet achingly poignant, "Stronger," a song she wrote for a friend battling leukemia. "I had just gotten off the phone with her husband," she muses. "She had gone to the emergency room, thinking it was just allergies. I cried out to God, wondering why bad things happen to good people. I still don't have the answers to that question, but I know that the love of God is sufficient for all our needs. And when life gets harder, God makes us stronger. He has destined us to overcome, even when it doesn't look like it from the world's perspective." Her peace-evoking Contemporary Worship hymn, "How You Love Me," could easily become a staple in church services across the country with its lovely chorus: "You are worthy, worthy/ I fall down at Your feet crying holy, holy/ Your love is all I need and Your beauty takes my breath away from me." Speaking of hymns that are church staples, Floyd delivers her own unique take on the beloved classic, "Great Is Thy Faithfulness," which is the only song on the project that she didn't write. "The words to this hymn are so powerful that I wanted to include it on the album," she explains. If you look up "All American Girl" in the dictionary, chances are the definition will be accompanied by a picture of Sommer Floyd. Born and raised in the Texas Hill Country, Floyd was an honor roll student, gifted athlete, beauty queen, and genuinely nice person. Voted "Class Favorite" and "Most Talented" by her high school classmates, Floyd was the quintessential cheerleader, earning four individual high school All American designations and three All Star Team National Championships. Attending college on a cheerleading scholarship, Floyd was designated a college All American as a freshman, an almost unheard of accomplishment. She ran on the varsity track team, played tennis, showed livestock, participated in rodeos and earned her Deep Sea Diving certification. And she sings. And writes songs. While Sommer certainly has all the credentials for The All American Girl, she is also 100 percent human. She is the first to admit she has made her share of mistakes. Those poor choices produced a deep level of brokenness, which compelled Sommer to dig deep into God's faithfulness, and reconnect with the God of her youth. The more connected the young woman became with God, the more songs began to flow from her pen. "Putting my brokenness on paper helped to get me through the hard times," Sommer says, "and the lyrics started to turn into worship." Her experience of brokenness and restoration resonated strongly throughout her community, opening doors for her to share her music and lead worship at churches and charity events throughout the Texas Hill Country, where she lives with her daughter, Heidi. Sommer's fetching vocals, ear-pleasing melodies and spiritually mature lyrics caught the ear of her producer, Steven V. Taylor, and she soon found herself in Franklin, Tennessee with some of Nashville's finest musicians, recording her debut CD at the legendary Dark Horse Studios. You'd think that five albums into his career as a singer/songwriter and fronting the band that bears his name, more folks would be familiar with Josh Blakesley. He's worked with mainstays of the Christian music industry including our friends Michael Farren and Mia Fieldes, yet to many of us, he's a newcomer. And perhaps that's because he's Catholic. Though Matt Maher and our recent guest, Audrey Assad, have been able to breakthrough, many Catholic music artists have been unable to crossover into mainstream CCM.Well, let's change that. Spend a few minutes with us as Joe Brookhouse sits down with Josh to discuss bridging the apparent gap between Protestant and Catholic in Christian art, worshiping in seasons of deepest wounds, the band's most recent album, Even In This, and writing a song about the very American holiday of Thanksgiving with the very Australian Mia Fieldes.
