This episode is all about AI and how it is impacting our working and personal lives now, particularly if you work at a nonprofit and you are trying to figure out where to invest in AI tools, and where to wait for the technology to develop further. Kyle Haines and guest Johan Hammerstom discuss fear of missing out, where to be cautious, and where to test-drive AI before taking the plunge. They discuss Microsoft's Copilot at length as an AI application that everyone using Microsoft products will eventually see integrate across the Microsoft Office. Johan is CEO of Community IT Innovators, an MSP providing outsourced IT support exclusively to nonprofits. Community IT and Build Consulting have a long history of partnership and have worked with many of the same clients over the years. Kyle and Johan also go way back. Sometimes those conversations between colleagues and friends of longstanding are the best kind to listen in on, and this discussion explores questions and cautions that these experts have about this “wild west” phase of AI we are living through now as the technology sorts itself into products and services. They also touch on the ways different generations interact with knowledge, and the way our algorithms can make echo chambers out of the media we consume. Our Fireside Chats are designed for audiences with varied experiences with technology. In this Fireside Chat with Johan Hammerstrom on AI, learn more about leading nonprofits by understanding new technologies as they emerge, and how those new tools can fit your use case.

This episode is sponsored by enVista. The speed with which Microsoft has introduced various Copilot capabilities has challenged even the most dedicated channel professionals to keep up. Updates across Microsoft 365, Dynamics 365, Power Platform, and beyond have signaled a new era at Microsoft, with the company's product teams all putting AI-based capabilities at the forefront of their planning and messaging. To get more perspective on how Microsoft's Copilot brand and tools are evolving, we are joined by Nathan Bench and Hillary Schwartzbach of enVista. They have been paying attention to Microsoft's updates, both the new Copilot announcements and the adjustments and rebranding that are still going on. They offer perspective on the AI capabilities that Microsoft customers have responded most favorably to already in work scenarios like code development, meeting management, and sales. We also discuss the close relationship between deploying AI workloads and having a strong base of IT fundamentals in an organization like data management and security policies. And they share some perspective on how champions can bring Microsoft Copilot tools back to their teams and win over skeptical or less educated colleagues to begin putting some of these capabilities to work. Show Notes: 2:00 - Which copilots customers have shown an early interest in, and why they need guidance in many areas 5:30 - How Sales Copilot has influenced the perception of newer Dynamics 365 Copilot tools 7:15 - How data management and data hygiene are so critical for getting value from AI 11:30 - The challenge of correctly assigned security and access 14:30 - Why access to documents and enterprise content flowing through enterprise systems will be important to Copilot scenarios 17:00 - Recommendations on how champions in an organization should be bringing AI discussions back to their teams today 23:00 - Why understanding user roles or personas will be critical for rolling out the right copilot scenarios in any organization 25:30 - The role that Dynamics ISVs will have in the Copilot story 30:00 - How enVista is starting to prepare their clients 33:15 - Why interest is so high inside organizations already enVista is a Microsoft Solution Partner with designations in Business Applications, Data & AI (Azure), Digital App & Innovation, and Modern Work. Copilot is the most significant new feature in the Windows 11 Fall update, version 23H2. If your computer hasn't been updated to 23H2, you can force the update or obtain some of the new features even without updating. In Short Circuits: Opera is a good browser that I've recommended several times in the past 25 years, and I still do recommend it, but only if you perform a fully manual installation to avoid some nasty “features”. • It's hard to keep up with improvements in artificial intelligence imagery. I took a look at images from Adobe Firefly, Canva, and Microsoft's Copilot, which uses DALL-E3. There's one standout winner. Twenty Years Ago (only on the website): Some of the security fixes Microsoft patched in 2003 seem quite simple by today's standards, but others are similar to issues that are fixed today, differing only in the affected components.
On this episode of The AI Moment, host Mark Beccue examines two trends in AI regulations and takes a look under the hood of Microsoft Copilot to understand how Microsoft is addressing built-in challenges for LLMs. The discussion covers: The key Generative AI trends – AI regulations. We take a look under the hood of Microsoft's Copilot to understand how Microsoft is addressing the built-in challenges for LLMs. How will Copilot navigate LLM issues with accuracy, bias, privacy and hallucinations?
In this episode of "The Business of Tech," Dave Sobel covers four key topics. First, he discusses the cost of AI innovation, specifically focusing on Microsoft's GitHub copilot service, which is reportedly costing the company up to $80 per user per month. Despite the high costs, Microsoft's strategy is to build a dedicated user base and potentially increase prices in the future. The second topic explores California's new tech laws and their implications for MSPs and businesses. Next, Dave decodes the security profile of Microsoft's copilot in 365. Lastly, he reviews the hits and misses of last week's DattoCon.Four things to know today00:00 The Cost of AI Innovation: Microsoft's GitHub Copilot and the Race for Profitability04:48 California's New Tech Laws: What They Mean for MSPs and Businesses06:53 Decoding the Security Profile of Microsoft's CoPilot in 36509:17 The Hits and Misses of Last Week's DattoConAdvertiser: https://mspglobal.com/ CODE MSPRADIOhttps://rfcode.com/mspradio/ CODE MSPRADIO for 30% offLooking for a link from the stories? Video: https://youtu.be/qe5tBvkvrf8Microsoft recently announced a game-changing feature called Microsoft Copilot. This exciting new addition will infuse AI capabilities into various Windows 11, Microsoft 365, Edge, and Bing applications. Think of it as Bing, but specifically designed for Windows devices. So, what can Copilot do? Quite a lot, actually. With this tool, you can rearrange windows effortlessly, generate text, open web apps, edit pictures, and much more. It's accessible both via an app and through a simple right-click, making it convenient for users to tap into its AI-powered goodness. But when can we start using Copilot? Well, the good news is that it's just around the corner. Microsoft plans to roll out Copilot this fall, making it available across Bing, Edge, and Microsoft 365. And for Windows users, you'll get to enjoy this feature sooner than you think. The free Windows 11 update will begin on September 26th. Now, you might be wondering, why is this such a big deal? The answer lies in the democratization of AI. While we don't have any mind-blowing use cases for Copilot just yet, this step forward by Microsoft is significant. As more users get their hands on this AI copilot, we'll start to see its true capabilities. And if all goes well, Microsoft could dominate an even larger share of the AI market by delivering AI natively.YouTube just announced some exciting news for creators! They're rolling out three new AI-powered features for YouTube Shorts creators. Let me break it down for you. First up, we have Dream Screen. This feature lets you create image or video backgrounds using AI. All you have to do is type in what you want to see in the background, and AI will make it happen. How cool is that? Next, we've got Creator Music. This feature got an AI revamp, making it even better than before. Now, creators can simply type in the kind and length of the music they need, and AI will find the most relevant suggestions. It's like having your own personal music assistant. Last but not least, we have AI Insights for Creators. This is a tool that generates video ideas for creators based on AI's analysis of what audiences are already watching and preferring. So, if you're looking for some inspiration, AI has got your back. This move by YouTube seems like a smart strategic decision to integrate AI features directly into the platform. We're seeing this trend more and more, and it's great news for users. They get free AI assistance in their creative endeavors, making their experience even better.Full transcript at: https://enoumen.com/2023/09/02/emerging-ai-innovations-top-trends-shaping-the-landscape-in-september-2023/Are you eager to expand your understanding of artificial intelligence? Inside Elon Musk's struggle for the future of AI We just got a never-before-seen look at how—and why—Elon Musk decided to go all-in on artificial intelligence. This comes from an article by Walter Isaacson in Time, and is adapted from his upcoming book Elon Musk, which publishes today! Issacson's name may ring a bell, as he's also the author of the Steve Jobs biography.) In the article, Issacson gives new details on the actions Elon Musk has taken to get highly involved in the future of AI. It turns out that Musk has become increasingly worried about the development of advanced AI—and considers it probable that we develop superintelligent AI that poses an existential risk to humanity if not properly shepherded into existence. Much of his discontent seems to have come from rocky relationships with Google over its acquisition of DeepMind and displeasure that OpenAI, which he co-founded, pivoted away from being a non-profit lab releasing AI advancements for everyone to use and build upon. As Isaacson details, Musk has spent years developing dedicated AI capabilities across his companies, including Neuralink, Tesla, and SpaceX. He's also actively considering how to use Twitter's data to fuel AI systems. Now, he's founded an overarching AI company called xAI to tie together all these AI efforts—and tapped a former AI expert at DeepMind, Igor Babuschkin, to join the company. His goal? To ensure AI develops in a way that benefits humanity and guarantees that superintelligent AI doesn't cause existential risks to the species at large. Musk has made some bold public statements before; it will be interesting to see what develops. We tested out Google Duet AI Google recently released Duet AI for Google Workspace, an AI copilot across popular Google apps like Docs, Sheets, Slides, Gmail, and Meet—and Marketing AI Institute took a deep dive into its capabilities. Over the last week, we've spent hours kicking the tires of different Duet AI capabilities across the main apps…and we definitely have some thoughts on how marketers and business leaders can take advantage of these new AI capabilities. Microsoft offers legal protection for AI copyright infringement challenges Microsoft just announced Copilot Copyright Commitment, a policy that provides legal protection for customers sued for copyright infringement when using Microsoft's AI systems like GitHub Copilot and Bing Chat. This comes as the explosion of generative AI tools has raised concerns about reproducing copyrighted material without attribution, and Microsoft aims to give customers confidence in deploying AI without worrying about copyright issues by covering any legal damages. The policy covers Microsoft AI products that use built-in guardrails, as the company faces ongoing litigation over Copilot's alleged copyright violations from scraping code. "As customers ask whether they can use Microsoft's Copilot services and the output they generate without worrying about copyright claims, we are providing a straightforward answer: yes, you can, and if you are challenged on copyright grounds, we will assume responsibility for the potential legal risks involved," writes Microsoft. A big statement. What does that mean for businesses? Enjoy the episode…and stick around for the rapid-fire topics, including announcements at INBOUND, Time's Top 100 People in AI, and much more.

This episode is sponsored by Forceworks. Microsoft has revealed a broad range of plans to bring generative AI to businesses. The Copilot brand now spans productivity tools, collaboration, and business applications, and their Azure OpenAI Service will offer any developer new ways to incorporate the technology into their own offerings. Our guest, Microsoft MVP and Forceworks CEO Steve Mordue, has been thinking about the impact AI will have on some of today's conventional wisdom around developers and applications. He wrote about Microsoft's vision for building a massive population of no-code/low-code citizen developers and why that could be as unrealistic as the myth of the so-called full-stack developer. Microsoft's Copilot investments could expose the weak points in how customers use Power Platform or how they customize their business applications more broadly, Steve says. He even offers a few guesses at what could come next as Microsoft and others in the generative AI market accelerate their efforts. Microsoft announced its plan to add artificial intelligence (AI) into its line of office products including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook last week. The announcement came a day after Google released its own AI tools to be used with Gmail, Google Docs and other products to developers and selected businesses. Called "Copilot", Microsoft's AI tools will offer writing and input suggestions in these applications. Microsoft said it will speed up content creation and free up workers' time. Copilot will be available for testing by around 20 companies. While Alphabet-owned Google is making progress in AI, Microsoft's early investments in OpenAI have set it apart from its competitors. OpenAI is the creator of ChatGPT which learns from past information to quickly produce human-like writings. Just last week, OpenAI started to release a more powerful version known as GPT-4. The new version, along with the older GPT-3.5, are part of Copilot features, Microsoft said. Rishi Jaluria is a researcher with the Canadian company RBC. He said the new capabilities, offered through Microsoft's cloud service, are set to increase its business and growth. Jaluria predicts Copilot will "drive more usage of Microsoft Office and increase the separation versus competitors". One of the big updates was in the electronic document, or spreadsheet, program Excel. Microsoft said anyone can describe a calculation they would like in plain text and its AI program would create a spreadsheet. The task often requires the knowledge of trained analysts. Jon Friedman, a Microsoft vice president, spoke with Reuters. He said Microsoft's new "business chat" experience is the biggest development last week. He said it can handle tasks across several business programs. For example, a user can ask, "Tell my team how we updated the product strategy," and the AI will use information from a morning's worth of emails, meetings, and chat records. Making the technology as good as possible and ensuring that its answers are factual are key concerns for Microsoft. Friedman said that is why Copilot is being tested with just some customers before a wider release. An "amazing thing about large language models is they're very confident, and they get things wrong," Friedman said. Friedman said the long-term plan for Microsoft is to develop a more personalized AI experience. "We often make people adapt to the machines and systems we have built," Friedman said. "This is a thing that will start to adapt to you."
