Dare I say it … but I think we got a bit political in this podcast! The Brownload party was discussing Rishi Sunaks love for Bhangra, Sadiq Khan back in as London Mayor and even the mighty Monty Panesar getting into politics! Plus I've been eaves dropping on peoples conversations in Sainsbury and I'm not sure about the way they pronounce things - Is it Pita or Peeeta?
Monty Panesar embraced 'Monty mania' when playing for England, but at what cost? The Tories got trounced at the locals – we unpack the winners and losers. Plus, we question how the media covered the races, including those who said Susan Hall might do better in London than she did… And with Monty Panesar standing for George Galloway's party – didn't have that on our 2024 bingo card – we ask about celebs and sports people going into politics. What are the dos and don'ts? • “Susan Hall basically stood there spitting fire about why she lost and how it wasn't fair.” – Jonn Elledge • “There is probably a point bringing up Reform – because they're a bigger threat to the Tories than they are to Labour.” – Marie Le Conte • “Even if you talk to Tory MPs, they know they cannot sell another new leader on the doorstep.” – Marie Le Conte • “With the younger generation online, they think all celebrities actually should be political. Celebrities are in a hard place because of it.” – Marie Le Conte Listen to American Friction – with Jacob Jarvis, The Bunker's Chris Jones and special guest Molly Jong-Fast here. It's finally time to ask cricket questions. How can England win in India? Who will keep wicket? Whose style of captaincy will prevail, Rohit or Stokes'? How many Tests will Jimmy play? To help answer these questions Steve Harmison, Monty Panesar and Jarrod Kimber have been brought together for the India v England Test Series Preview. You can also see this in all its visual glory by visiting the talkSPORT Cricket YouTube Page.https://www.youtube.com/@talkSPORTCricketAnd you can get in contact with the team by Tweeting us at @cricket_ts and/or @fulhamjon Hosted on Acast. Chris Tremlett – England Cricket Legend – Life & Mindset of International Sport & Business For a person involved in sport professionally, representing your country, is for most, the pinnacle of their career. Chris Tremlett is from a long line of cricketers. Chris was fully aware of the ratio of success from “promising youth player” to full test international and worked hard to beat those odds. Having represented his home county of Hampshire and then neighbours Surrey, Chris was selected for England and his fast bowling was used to great effect, taking 53 wickets for an average of 27 runs. Chris was a member of the Andy Flower side that claimed number 1 in the world, as well as being used to devastating effect in the 2010 Boxing Day Ashes test at the MCG, bowling out Australia for just 98. Chris talks to us about the mindset required to rise to the top in sport, and how these principals can be transferable into life and business. He describes playing with the outstanding talent that is Kevin Pietersen and sheds some light on his training habits that might not be obvious to the outsider looking in. He also discusses Ricky Ponting and interestingly, the two very different sides to his persona, dictated by whether you were on his side that day, or not. We are also lucky to have the lid slightly lifted on what life was like to share a dressing room and a team sheet with Shane Warne and his “rock and roll” lifestyle. Simon and Ben have an interesting discussion about the pressures of life, family and business for people who find themselves in their late 30's and beyond. We spoke to Chris just a day or so before he flew out to meet up with Kevin Peterson, Jonathan Trott, Monty Panesar and the rest of his England Legend teammates for their win in the Road Safety World Series in India Enjoy the show!
